Programming › Re: Why Are Nigerian Programmers So Dumb? by platymus: 4:10pm On Jul 18, 2020 |
aitoehigie: With the avalanche of social networks in Nigeria, i would like to ask this question, can Nigerian hackers think? ("H.A.C.K.E.R": means extremely talented programmers). With the likes of facebook, friendster, myspace, do we really need "Nigerianized" versions of these sites? Please there are a million and one other stuff that can be done on the web instead of another clone of facebook. This is a call to arms to Nigerian programmers, LETS DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!
P.S: If you are still coding in PHP(jezz!@#@) and the likes, you really need to wake up also this is an advice to seun, i noticed that some words are banned on this site, why is that? e.g. H>A>C>K>E>R>S. See the post for the real meaning. @aitoehigie,this is the challenge i took years ago,to be original in my creation, solve problems(technology, business and otherwise) that are specific to our environment and economy in this part of the world(Africa).i have been on that journey for sometime now and it has been challenging, exciting and interesting,as someone said,"challenges are what make life interesting, solving them is what make life meaningful." It is a life time learning and practice,as such I do not call myself a web developer or engineer(although I do all of those and I am well grounded in these things). It is even beyond web or mobile development many are touting. Today I write plenty of problem-solution requirement and elicitation. Many applications and business models around us today are copied without any modification because those behind it only care about the money not the mission. THE SACRIFICE |

Tim1212: Before you start... define programming language and a computer.. Learn to argue with fact! html has no logic built into it neither does it provide any form of error handling,no looping structure is provided by html, you cant define a variable,no function declaration or expression,no form of object definition,it provides no defined data types, etc. Please check fact! HTML/HTML5 is never a programming language! |
Programming › Re: Why Do Self Taught Programmers Over Exaggerate by platymus: 2:56pm On Jun 26, 2020 |
SegFault: There is nothing wrong in being self taught, I am tutoring myself in multiple cs courses like OS development, Internet architecture, linear algebra, physics (for the sake of gameplay programming) and System Architecture (this is very good for programmers and CS students in order to spit out code that makes optimising compilers look like dumbos). I want to also continue on Calculus (edx tutors make this stuff seem like cake, shame on Nigerian lecturers and teachers) and some others. It just depends on how you see yourself, some see it as some stupid achievement that makes them smart like Tesla while I see it as a necessity. Even college students should do it. man,i love your comment. You had part of what i wanted to say in mind! I have key things to say on this subject but no time to type. I am both side of the equation, self taught and Mathematics/CS. Our country and educational system is a major problem. I just went the way of self learning but the knowledge of CS theories is important if your looking beyond application development.Things like OS development, hardware, robotics, etc. Like you,am also self studying on subjects like robotics, advance mathematics, etc. There are oppotunities i see beyond app. development in africa and the world at large, but i am a die hard software engineer. i program in JAVA,PHP,JS(stacks include: MERN,MEVN),PYTHON,SQL,NOSQL,neo4J,etc. I also do lots of software analysis and UX/UI design using Agile methodology. This field is wide don't limit your self! |

Programming › Re: HTML5 A Programming Language Or Not by platymus: 11:53am On Jun 24, 2020 |
Tim1212: I have been a scientist and senior software engineer @ diib Nigeria for over 7 years now.
I made my research @ diib Nigeria Research Laboratory, and have discovered so many mysterious technology behind HTML.
Html is programming language, provided it's a sequence of code that performs a task. HTML is classified under a Markup Language, because it format how a content should appear on a web browser.
Research showed that HTML is used to create a web document that appear on the web.
MOST app on your smartphone are web document, because they access the internet through already installed default web browser on the device.
The app is a shortcut to access the web, using URL on the web browser..
HTML can be used to develop desktop applications or mobile applications compatible on any device.
HTML does not have limitation in regard to programming. @ DNRL we have experimented creating software that run on smartphones and desktops using HTML.
MOST folks in Africa, focus on learning programming languages without making research how this language was originally created or developed.
Creating a website using HTML , is the process of developing a software that can run on the web as well as run on Operating Systems.
Examples Facebook, Google, Amazon websites are examples of software that run on the web.
Let's make this trend interesting by contributing your experience here. Hi i think you have similar question before. As a scientist you should know html5 is a markup language not a programming language or have you developed the back-end of an application using html5? |

Next time don't bother with Nigerians, go to where you will get cheap but good service. But check their reviews first oo. I disagree with you! I can do same job far far better! that person who did it is not a true developer at heart,he is just one of those copy and paste script writers. |

ThreeBlackBird: Experts, which is better for a web development newbie?
I have been learning HTML, CSS and basic Javascript but while working on my new project, I encountered the need to use glyphicons that makes website more attractive to users.
Since last night, I've been unable to proceed with because I'm stuck with either learning bootstrap which I started yesterday but later felt it was too much of a cheat.
Is there a way I can make glyphicons for my own CSS?
CC: timi1212, kay9, incogni2o, maskyy Instead of learning boostrap because you need glyphicons why not learn SVG to get most the icons you need or use libraries like font awesome, https://glyphsearch.com/(click on the class link and copy it ),iconshock.com,flaticon.com,etc all these icons for you in png,svg format. you dont need to learn boostrap for this but learn boostrap incase you want to do rapid prototyping or small project that dont need too much |
Programming › Re: I Want To Sue Smartweb Hosting For Poor Services. Read More... by platymus: 4:05pm On Jun 17, 2020 |
Mannyemmy: Hi everyone, please I need your sincere advice. I have been using Smartweb webhosting provider since Novemberber last year for my personal and clients website. It all started last week when I was trying to renew one of my web and application host that expired about less than 2 months ago, I found out that all the files and database was gone and when I tried contacting them, they told me they don't have a backup for it. It was really a sad one for me and I have no option to start again and I accept my fate and even fault myself for not renewing the hosting on time. Fast forward to yesterday, a new video subscription platform I just finished doing for a client crashed yesterday and the link no longer opening showing disc error. I bought this domain name and hosting for this website just a week ago. I contacted them yesterday when it happened and they told me they will recover it, fast forward to today, they sent me a mail regretting to tell me that the files and database are gone, just a week ago, they told me same thing on my other site and the worst is I work on this projects online and really don't have the contents again except the design. Now, client on my neck thinking I'm the cause. I called Smartweb agent some moment ago and it seems nothing can be done and all they could do is 1 month hosting free! Currently, I'm thinking about to sue them! Please help me judge this here? Please should I go ahead? Honestly I feel for you! you should have doing regular back ups of your data from time to time. If you have a lawyer get him to talk to the hosting provider before going to court. If you can't come to reasonable agreement then go to court. Sue them for damages and loss of properties. Also get your clients to be involve for evidence purpose. Please from now on always and always back up your databases and files. Use git/ github as repo. |

Family › Re: My Experience: How Can Couples Sustain Their Love Even In Old Age? by platymus: 2:11pm On Jun 05, 2020 |
Wolgrace: The topic itself speaks volume of the "fear of the unknown." Fear is a breeder of present presumption and destroyer of the future.
My observation:
Each generation has its own vision, purpose, destiny, script, accomplishment, and history which must be actualised. The present generation seems to be most carnal, woeful, dreadful, sodomy, abominable, reprobate, abounding iniquities, and prophetic times of last days. Reason this generation is waxing cold in love, wisdom, understanding, knowledge, spirituality, prayer, fasting, mentality, counselling and guidance, discipline, manners, conduct, morality, law, commandments, principle, and carefulness which results to all round wreckages such as separation, divorce, uncontrollable temper and anger, hatred, abuse, intolerance, conspiracy, & disunity in many homes. I concur!
The fire against this generation is so huge and disastrous that it takes the strong to conquer, not by riches but double efforts of sustainance e.g WISDOM, ENDURANCE, SELFCONTROL, TOLERANCE, PRAYER, ETC. |
