I will come back to Nigeria permanently when we have numerous hospitals like these ones in South Africa:

South Africa is also building a brand new hospital right now which will be ready in 2014,it will cost billions of rands and will be the most technologically advanced Hospital on the African continent. It is being fitted with the most technologically advanced medical instruments in the world.Below is a diagram of what it will look like.

I will come back to Nigeria permanently when our police officers are trained properly, armed with pistols instead of assault rifles, equipped with radios, equipped with tazers to subdue suspects without the use of lethal force while their assault rifles remain inside their car. This is how it is done in other civilized countries.Nigerian police are too militarized hence why they exchange gunfire with our soldiers and kill civilians at will.

phantom: its easy to get angry wneh you see other countries that dont have what you have make giant strides honestly but truth be told we cant just sit down and throw figures around.we have had and still have devilishly corrupt leaders but IMHO if jesus comes down now and heads this country we will not see much change in 4 years you may not believe it.WHY? because our problem as a country has gone way beyond just our terrible leaders but also the followers.
In fact the MAIN PROBLEM WE HAVE is our present structure!!!nigeria has no foundation!no sense of nationhood amongst its citizens.this faulty structure wouldnt be the issue it is today if WE HAD CONTINOUSLY HAD GOOD LEADERS from inception.if economic progression and sustainability had been the watch word from day 1,tribalism and religion would have been diluted.these things wouldnt be an issue today but what do we have now? an existing faulty structure that has been made weaker by bad leaders. sad
I can't believe i am saying this but i will just say it: MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR THIS HONEST POST.

You see we are on the same page except i am so tired i used harsh words to express my frustration. What you have said is true and same as what i have been trying to say.

The reality is this : Where do we go from herehuh

Do we keep sitting and feeling defeated or do we start mobilizing in every capacity to educate our fellow Nigerians?

Nigeria has a large community on facebook ,twitter and other social mediums .Why are are we not doing like the Egyptians and Libyans and organizing online rallies for starters to educate people. We can't just sit back and hope for the best.

I for one feel that Nigerian are too obsessed with the mentality of : "he go better" , "God's time is best" or "God will help us". I read my bible very well and last i checked GOD specifically stated that he will only help those who help themselves. We are a nation of 170 million why are we so scared of less than 100,000 thieves in Government.

In South Africa when the Government does nonsense ,the people go to the streets and start rioting. They don't tolerate nonsense ,that is why Government is doing everything to please the people. Now SA is just 50 million with probably the best equipped military in Africa ,yet the citizen are not scared of their government.

We have to make our Government be scared of the people,we have to show them that we have the power, not them. The only way we can do is by being united with one voice ,No Igbo ,No Yoruba ,No Hausa ,just Nigerians aka wazobians. We must start from somewhere and we must be serious if we want serious results.Enough of talking and fighting kung fu on Nairaland. Let us unite with one voice and criticize where necessary without fear, excuses, favor or tribal sentiment.

dasparrow: Okay, makes sense. The situation in Nigeria is frustrating. I cannot even deny that. I have not seen light in my area for almost 1 week. I am going to my mom's place soon so that I can at least enjoy a little electricity. I thought of raising the family in Nigeria but I am afraid that I cannot. After service year, I am out of here before I loose my mind.
Thank you for your honest reply. Many people here will think i hate Nigeria or enjoy insulting my own people. That is not the case.Just like you ,i care and i am frustrated with the situation even though i am not directly affected by it.I feel so bad that my children may never want to come and live in Nigeria because of all the problems.

I feel sad that my people after 50 years of independence and $150 billion a year revenue are still living like slaves.I am tired of keeping quiet and i am going to take to youtube to lambast the Nigerian leadership. We must expose these leader for what they are .If need we should ask for foreign intervention to help end all this mess once and for all.Our problems can be fixed within a short period of time if we get the right leaders. It is a bonafide fact.Don't listen to people who ask to stay in Nigeria, travel out and see what living like a normal human being feel like.Trust me you never look back except to help make positive changes.

The overseas experience is not describable ,you have to experience to know what it feel like. In my 13 years of living abroad there has only being 3 power failures and they warned us in advance before they switched off the light. They switched off the light to remove old transformers and replace them with new ones.My brother come and see Good governance you will never be the same again.

Our people don't like to listen and they are too tribalistic to be intellegnt. They focus so much on tribe instead of substance. They don't care if a political candidate is a convicted thief. As long as he comes from their tribe they will vote for him. That tell me that there is something acutely wrong with the mentality of most Nigerians.People like Jonathan ,David Mark,Tinubu,Obasanjo,Yara dua,Akpabio,Ameachi,Okorocha and all the other politicians should not be leaders in any country. Most of these people are not intelligent. They are just rich corrupt people who use money to buy their way into power

Igbos are so corrupt that they always end up selling their birth right and voting for the wrong candidate to the detriment of their own IGBO agenda. Yorubas are too religious & professional back stabbers that they always support the wrong person to their own detriment and Hausas are too power obsessed that they feel all Nigerian leader musts always be Hausa. This is our biggest problem ,tribal politics.

snoopy: And to think it was you ranting here not so long ago about the xenophobia y'all suffer in your south african base, you don't think this attitude is exactly why Nigeria is as it is, where as long as it doesn't affect you, you are not bothered and everyone shifting blames and not looking for how they themselves can be the proponents of that change. smh....as someone said wait till they shoot u dead over a nokia cell phone or at best deport you over yellow fever crap, you village is the best place you'ld end up, ode!
If i was not bothered i won't be commenting here.Read and comprehend my comment and understand where i am coming from. Are you saying all what i have said is a Lie? If i am lying then you are right if what i said so far is true then i am right. As for xenophobia it is a minor issue and as for crime,i am here 13 years and have never once been robbed. It is your right to defer with my opinion but the truth is the truth.I can't waste my time trying to change a people who aggressively reject change.I tried it once and i ate humble pie.The problem with Nigeria is not the leaders it is the people who have corruption embedded in their DNA.Just look at how they are praising Jonathan on NL even though he has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to move Nigeria forward. Our power problem is a very minor issue i can fix with one decision but the average Nigeria will not elect people like me into power. They do not want to fix the electricity because Aso rock never lacks electricity. The politicians have big generators in their homes so they are not bothered. If they were affected by the electricity problem they would have fixed it a long time ago. They do not care and will never care.Instead they will elect alhajis, baba alayes ,Igwes and their tribes men e.t.c

Nigeria's is the only country in the world where the electorate are more concerned about the tribe and religion of the candidates as opposed to what they can offer the people. The day we get rid of Yoruba man must rule ,Igbo man must rule and Hausa man must rule mentality, that is the day we will elect Good leaders.Until then we are shooting ourselves in the foot.Look at the likes of that baboon known as Asari dokubo threatening war and Buhari also threatening violencehuh Is that an example of sane people or people who have the best interest of the country at heart. We need to get rid of tribal politics and we will never do so by speaking grammar.Nigerians are hard of hearing ,they are like goats, they do not like to take correction or do the right thing. So they need hard words that may hopefully jolt them back to reality and help them make reasonable decisions.

Tell me what do you call a people who collect bribe to vote for the wrong candidate? Are they sensible or senselesshuh

It is a simple question that deserves a honest answer.2 + 2 = 4 ,it will never equal 5.You can't cure a headache with alcohol. As long as you lot continue to do the same thing ,Nigeria will never change. It will remain a cesspit and an eyesore to the human race.$150 billion dollars yearly in Oil revenue yet no electricity.Kenya that makes less than 20% of that is fully electrified, same as egypt , Ghana and the rest.Yet you monkeys call yourself giants ?? Giants ko ,dwarf ni.

Nigerians don't need soft words as they are intellectually incapable of processing such. They are animals who need hard words so that they can wake from the Zombie state they are in and do what is right for the future generation.Nigerian celebrities give birth overseas, why is that? They even take pictures and flaunt the fact that they flew all the way from Nigeria to give birth in the US or UK. If you people were sensible ,why don't you have capable Hospitals to handle child deliveries? Even your senseless president and his wife fly to the Uk and Germany to get treatment for simple flu and you say you people are not senselesshuh In all the years of Jonathan being President ,it did not occur to him to set aside money and build a world class Hospital in both Lagos and Abuja.Instead he hires an Israeli company to spy on Nigerians and even attempted to steal $21 million from the contract.Oh yes you people are very sensible. The truth is bitter ,just swallow the pill and learn.

Now let me ask you ,what has Jonathan been looking at since he became President ,why is it now that his tenure is almost over that he is commissioning stuff. No one is fooled ,they have not even constructed the dam.It is a smokes screen as usual to fool gullible Nigerians.

We are a nation that need at least 100,000Mw to be fully lit but instead we are building small power plants which can not sustain more than a few states at a time. Jonathan is a failure and a thief. Just recently he tried to steal $21 million from the coffer through the Isreali Internet Spying deal.

Instead of spying on Nigerians why does he not use that money to build a brand new functioning hospital for Nigerians especially in Lagos which is the most populous state? Why?

Don't worry we are watching you and it is just a matter of time. All of you will shit brick when we revolt. You may think your identity is hidden but i assure that we are determined and we will get each and everyone of you who have committed treason against this country.Change is coming and it won't be peaceful ,do not say i did not give you fair warning.

I am not one of this tribalistic buffoons who fight everyday over ndigbo nonsese ,odua nonsesne or aboki nonsense.I am a Nigeria who cares about Nigerians and will lay down my life to destroy the rotten donkeys in Nigeria who are continuing to loot this nation dry.Death to politicians!

With all the money we are making why can he build a mega dam at the base of river Niger like the chinese. The democratic republic of congo that makes way less than we make in Nigeria is about build the world biggest dam ,the Grand Ina dam which will generate a whooping 39,000MW. Why is Jonathan not building something similar at the base of river Niger which can easily accommodate a similar or bigger dam.Jonathan is nothing but a failed President,he is corrupt and a very heartless man.He will meet his waterloo shortly ,we are fed up with all the lies, the looting and all the antics.

Look at Gaddafi a great leader in his own right. He spent $30 billion and built the great reservoir ensuring that his people have constant supply of clean water for life. Gaddafi also paid US$ 300 million out of the $400 million required to build and launch the African satellite which greatly reduced our phone bills today.Without him ,we still have been paying European companies $500 million a year just to make calls.Yes he was brutal but he took care of his people ,Jonathan will never be able to do 2% of what gadaffi did for his people.

'We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you': What man holding bloody cleaver said after 'hacking soldier in Help For Heroes T-shirt to death just yards from Woolwich barracks'

An eyewitness who watched a man brutally killed with a machete-style knife and dumped in a street tonight dramatically revealed how he watched the two attackers behave like 'crazed animals'.

The man, known only as James, said he and his partner saw two black men attack a young man aged around 20 in a Help for Heroes T-shirt in Woolwich, south-east London, like he was ‘a piece of meat’.Fighting back tears, he told LBC Radio: ‘They were hacking at this poor guy, literally. They were chopping him, cutting him. These two guys were crazed. They were just animals.

'They dragged him from the pavement, dumped his body in the middle of the road and left (it) there.’He said that after the ‘horrendous’ attack, the two men, in their 20s, stood around, waving knives and a gun, even asking people nearby to take pictures of them ‘as if they wanted to be on TV’.

‘They were oblivious to anything, they were more worried about having their photo taken, running up and down the road,’ he said. ‘They had no intention of running off or leaving or anything.‘In my opinion, they were waiting for the police to arrive to be shot by the police. That's the only thing I can think. It's horrendous what they were doing to that guy.’
Some ‘brave’ women tried to shield the man on the ground from them, he added. The witness also said that it was 20 minutes before armed police arrived at the scene.‘When the armed police came flying around the corner, the man with the beanie hat, the tall guy, he charged at the police vehicle,’ he said. ‘A shot was fired by the other guy with the gun.'

The comments by the witness came after the man was killed and two others were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds today following a ‘serious incident’ understood to involve a serving soldier.'They were just animals. They dragged him from the pavement, dumped his body in the middle of the road and left the body there'
James, eyewitness

Some witnesses described seeing a ‘beheading’ while another described seeing a man wearing a Help for Heroes T-shirt being attacked with a machete-style knife and dumped in a street.Woolwich and Greenwich MP Nick Raynsford said it was his understanding that one person, a serving soldier, was dead and his two alleged killers were taken to hospital.

London Ambulance Service confirmed a man was found dead at the scene, while two other men were taken to hospital, one of them in a serious condition.London Air Ambulance confirmed that one patient was airlifted from the scene, while another was taken away by road ambulance.

Foreign AffairsOffice Bullying Sparks Outcry In Singapore by playmode(op): 12:17pm On May 22, 2013

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTZ13fl9PH4

A Singapore company supervisor caught on video slapping a male intern is in trouble after the clip went viral on the web and sparked a public outcry. Police confirmed to AFP that a complaint had been lodged against the supervisor, who works at a software company, and the manpower ministry said it had also been alerted about the alleged case of workplace abuse.

The 17-second "Singapore office bully" clip, first uploaded on the video-sharing website YouTube last Friday, showed the boss repeatedly slapping a younger man described by local media as a 29-year-old intern.

A fellow intern who filmed the video said in a posting at an online forum that he had noticed the supervisor "constantly bullying" his co-worker soon after starting his internship.

When he confronted the boss, the supervisor explained that "there is a story behind" the abuse.

"He said that my colleague apparently has an inferiority complex and apparently my supervisor is trying to 'nurture' him to get over it," he said.

"I felt this was stupid, as how can you nurture someone by hitting them? My co-worker is very timid and seems like the kind of guy that will not stand up for himself."

The Straits Times reported Wednesday that after the video went viral, two former interns in the same company also came out to say they had worked in fear under the supervisor.

Local Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min said the intern, a university graduate, was being paid Sg$500 ($400) a month and that his parents may seek compensation from the firm.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by playmode(m): 7:52am On May 22, 2013
Henry120: Nice media opps by the south africans, this is one area where our army is lagging behind. In nigeria the military, not until recently( navy and to some extent airforce) do not release photographs. Most of the pics posted by nigerians are either random photographs or troops personal photos. The south africans, egyptians, algerians and even the Kenyans understand the value of good photo opps. However in nigeria the army is still stuck in the past.

That been said, the last 2 photos I pasted, show major flaws in south african military "retreating" training.

When troops retreat the way the south africans have in the first photo, they leave themselves very vulnerable to enemy attack. Only one soldier is providing covering fire for seven(7) retreating troops.

* As we can all see clearly the training is still on.

This is how we do it in nigeria, all seven(7) soldiers would been on crouching position, facing back towards enemy position, the last soldier in the line stands up and sprints( in a crouched position) to the first soldier in line, while the other six provide cover fire. The sixth soldier, now the seventh in line performs the same routine as the seventh soldier who is now the first soldier.

This process repeats itself again and again until they get to their chopper awaiting to ferry them away. What it means is that at all times during the retreat, the soldier retreating has 6 rifles providing cover fire for him, as he retreats.

Another example say the troops are 24 in number, they divide themselves in 6 groups of 4 members. So when a group of four(4) soldiers retreating, they get 20 others, providing cover fire.

It is smarter, safer and less risky to retreat the nigerian way, than what these SANDF troops are doing. With just 1 cover fire.

For the second photo, in picking or dropping troops. NAF usually takes 2 choppers e.g NAF puma and armed augusta luh as escort. While troops slide down the ropes of the NAF puma, the NAF augusta job is to provide cover fire for the NAF puma while troops are dropped or picked. You'd see NAF augusta luh(armed) going in circles round NAF puma, full 360 degrees covering fire.

Just my observations in the 2 photos, observations were SANDF can learn a couple of things from the nigerian military.
Bros abeg take it easy on this South Africans now? Chai see as you decimate their yeye retreating strategy? I hear the South are very good at running, one them even hid in a church for 3 days while mates were being hammred by seleka.Guess how they rewarded him for abandoning his mates and hiding? They gave him a medal ,yes the SANDF rewards cowards with medals grin

Henry120: In terms of kitting and firearms in nigeria, the navy special forces and the SSS storm troopers are on another planet when compared to the army or police.

The army especially still has a long way to go, but for regular troops and special forces. The army should please do away with those AK-47's and better kit her personnel.
I believe we are all in agreement that the AK-47s need to go and be replaced with something more modern and more efficient. That being said ,i agree that cost is an issue.I for one believe the Tavor and Scars are similar in price and like Yeboyes said (if we can afford it) we should go for the Scars.

In regards to the recommendation you made in regards to the army giving the NSCDC their weapons,i do not think that is a good idea. The NSCDC in my opinion are a para military force and should instead carry small side arms as well as Tazers. I will also like our policemen to stop carry Ak 47s and instead carry side arms and Tazers. Our police force is too militarized hence why we get all these case of police brutality and accidental discharge all the time.

Don't get me wrong i know there will be times when they will need to engage well armed criminals but i think the policing model being used world wide is what we should adapt for our police force and the NSFDC so that they can be civilian friendly.

You see the police officers carry side arms and tazers on their person and keep their assault rifle in their cars. This reduces the risk of them assaulting citizens with assault rifles. In my opinion our police officers should look like this :

Instead of looking like combatants:

Members of the NPF and the NSCDC should be trained to use Tazers first before using any lethal force. They can keep the AKs in their cars in case they encounter heavily armed criminals. This will save a lot of lives that are lost yearly at the hands of some members of the NPF.

patriot4: I guess it is not all about the number of tanks, there are other equipments to consider and there are other factors. By the way Israel had much less tanks than the combination of arab armies it defeated in 6 days.
The equipments giving Under the name of the countries is not exhaustive, it is just there to show that these countries have reason to be where they are.
That is very true even though i suspect that they got some covert help from you know who.
