^ I didint just post these things willy-nilly without facts to back them up. Countries like South Africa are not 'industrialized', not in the sense you are describing. Even countries like the UAE are not. They don't really manufacture, but they have invested heavily in infrastructure and services capacity (in the case of South Africa). They are also using their mineral resources to trade for infrastructure.First of, South Africa has every one of the attributes I listed in the topic title. South Africa has had a steel factory since 1928 (Mittal steel) and actually does Manufacture many things including Armoured Personel carriers and military hardware. Profile of the S. A economy from Wiki: "mining (world's largest producer of platinum, gold, chromium), automobile assembly, metalworking, machinery, textiles, iron and steel, chemicals, fertiliser, foodstuffs, commercial ship repair" South Africa is providing all manner of services to the whole of Africa. Telecoms services, retail, you name it, they do it, from Congo to Namibia. But you don't see any cars, trucks, aircraft, or ships manufactured in SA. Just small scale manufactured goods.Heres another quote I found: "The manufacturing sector provides a locus for stimulating the growth of other activities, such as services, and achieving specific outcomes, such as employment creation and economic empowerment. This platform of manufacturing presents an opportunity to significantly accelerate the country's growth and development." Read more: http://www.southafrica.info/business/economy/sectors/manufacturing.htm#ixzz1Rq74uWth As for the United Arab emirates, it is a facade. That is exactly how Nigeria would look if its population was 8.9 million. The U.A.E is exactly what Nigeria is aiming for perfect roads, perfect schools, security, free health care and education etc. in short development without industrialization. That sort of development is impossible for us because our population is too high and the oil will not last forever. Nigeria doesn't have to become a manufacturing giant to industrialize. All we need is the capability to manufacture the basic neccesities for the home market. Proximity alone is incentive enough for someone to buy a Nigerian made machine. Because the locally made one also has local people that can repair it, and saves on shipping cost. |
cap28:@the bolded thats not true. That video was racist, and if you can't see that you are racist also. Did you notice that it only showed A.A's? White people and Hispanics were also involved in those riots. Mandingo is an dumbo you are not obviously. You usually post interesting and insightful stuff, i just hope you don't join him in the gutter just for the sake of an argument. . . |
Cap28 what was the meaning of that idiotic video you posted? Be careful to make sure you don't become what you hate. Don't want to end up like Mandingo. |
A kid? I have a beard! (well kinda ) your only like 18 right?Wow, you must be really light. You don't tan at all? Good thing you don't live in Africa! |
^Hey, I'm 17, some guys grow into their 20's! Yea african1 being light skinned is probably an advantage! Haha if not you can suntan. Your not light enough to burn right? ![]() |
God I hope I'm still growing. In like January I posted a topic on here about being short and I've grown since then, so it's hopefull. ( if I don't make it to 5'8 I'm wearing elevator shoes!) ![]() Yea I completly agree. I guess that's the problem with having the name "black" it makes people assume you have to be dark. Is it black people or white people that say that? |
^ haha it's better than being a short guy! At the beggining of the year i was like 5'6 I thought I was skrewed! So you must have straight hair than, most americans seem to assume all Africans will look a certain way ![]() were do they think your from? |
^^ haha nope, medium most of the time dark in the summer. I may post my picture up here someday ![]() you? |
[pre][/pre]
@ poster, I beg to correct your position on this thread. The world has long past the Industrial age, Just as the Agricultural revolution is long Gone. Now we are in the age of Information Technology and good education is the bane of every development no matter the age we are in. I mean Education as in constant search for Knowledge as opposed to what we know it as in Nigeria which is the pursuance of certificates to be used as a lifetime meal ticket.
My friend your mindset is exactly the problem, your trying to 'develop' without industrializing. The industrial revolution is not over, it hasn't yet spread to Africa. You cannot create technology without industry, belive me it's impossible! Do we have the means to refine rubber? Can we manufacture circuitry and wires? Can we mass produce machines? Can we refine casserite? Can we manufacture the equiptment neccisaey to build laptops? If you think it makes economic sense to import everything na-wa for you ooo. Even if we educate the best engineers in the word they will all move abroad. |
african1:Loooolz I'm like 5'7 how tall r u? |
^ damn ![]() |
If your a hot girl who drives a big car (ford f-250 crew cab) you don't need any of these tips cuz thats fuggin sexy! |
I don't like my friends and I need new ones ![]() all they do is drugs now. ![]() |
If I married a midget I would pick her up and sex her daily. No doubt about that heck, I could even do that to a normal sized woman! ![]() |
How can nairaland be a mirror image of nigeria when the majority of members live abroad? Abeg, Nigeria is not this bad, atleast not day to day. |
I love midgets because you can pick them up and fuck them!!! ![]() haha jk i'm not that kinda guy. ![]() |
Yeeesssssss perfect! ![]() |
so how short are you? |
This seems like good advice. But The eye contact thing really bothers me sometimes. There's nothing more intimidating than when a tall hot girl is just staaaarig you down. So much sectual tension. . . If she's shorter than you it's cute tho ![]() |
I'm not really sure what this thread is about, but I would like to share some my views about nairaland. this is a great site and I've met so many wonderfull people here, but also many trolls. The mindset of this forum is wack, it feels too anonimous and fake. No one has a profile picture up and we insult each other wily nilly. ( even the creator doesnt have a picture!) so it sometimes has the feel that your talking to usernames not ppl. I find myself habitiuosly derailing topics just to have a decent, non argument, convo haha. Chatrooms would help alot. And The business to business section has potential but is so disorganized, I've tried putting up adds for my uncles company but it's so user-unfriendly. there's no seperate sections for buyers and suppliers last time I checked. . .Not to talk of an adequate search feature. Of course it's NOT my place to critique the 2nd most popular site in Africa but Seun it's hard to understand why your so pessimistic, do you know your site has actually replaced facebook for me? |
