soroptimist: Let him go back and be doing sir,sir forToo bad for him. The guy should have just stayed in PDP. I saw him then as a decent fellow. But well, wetin concern me self. |
It's not surprising. When one man - Tinubu, single-handedly handpicked party chieftains, ensuring only those loyal to him get important position, while overlooking many who have sacrificed for the party, this is the consequence. Question now is: Where does Chief Tom Ikimi go from here? Return to his vomit - the PDP, or becomes a roaming political vagabond, a mercenary for hire? |
She gave everything; then she gave herself! Dora should should be call Dora The Great! May she find eternal peace in the bosom of the Lord! |
If Punch is politically neutral, then I am the owner of Facebook, and Tinubu is a Catholic Priest! ![]() |
I said it. I have argued in this same line. BBC was wrong, initially to call it a 'defection', and even wrong to call it 'fleeing'. Soldiers don't desert wearing uniforms and carrying arms. 'Retreat' is a basic military tactical maneuver. When few soldier are confronted with a numerically larger force in indefensible position without ready reinforcement, the options are limited - it's fight to the death or retreat to fight another day. Flight could be termed 'fleeing' if it is spontaneous and disorderly (usually involving dumping of weapons, uniforms);it is called deserting. But when soldiers, fight as they pull back, still holding on to their weapons, uniforms, etc, it's a 'retreat.' And there is nothing to be ashamed of in retreat, especially if you live to fight another day! To fight to the death when there is alternative is a waste of manpower and equipments, unless the soldiers are commanded to defend a position at all cost! |

RaptorX: Keep on believing the topic is arrant nonsence, where does it say they defected to the Cameroonian army, it say they fled to Cameroon meaning they are seeking asylum in Cameroon so as not to fight BH.The original topic said 'defected'. You are late to the thread. Should have taken some time to read some of the initial posts! |
Obiagelli: please lets have some semblance of shame even if we are sycophants. What are you yapping about? Is that you can't read or you have problem with comprehension? |
madridfc: [s] http://m.bbc.com/news/world-africa-28927898[/s] Already trashed. Later comer! |
borga112:Many have argued that Innoson doesn't as at yet have capacity to meet local demands. If that's the case, I believe it will take a while to launch an international campaign. Wish him all the best though. |
naptu2: The BBC originally used the word "defection" on their twitter feed. They later changed it to "desertion". That's why you see "correction" at the top of the twitter status.I see. Apologies to the Op then. But it is pedestrian for BBC to have used such critical term - 'defect' to describe a basic army maneuver such as 'retreat'. Sometimes we give these folks (western media) more respect than they deserve. How can an internationally acclaim world media outfit make such kindergarten mistake? Who knows how many more mistakes they make daily? |
Good for Ghana, good for Africa. Well done Ghana! |
4Play: You faux patriots are the worst traitors of all because by denying the extent of this Boko Haram menace, you help to perpetuate it. If you were serious about finding the source, you will find it. See here:Thanks for the link. But if you had compared the topic of this thread with the BBC Breaking News, you would have understood where I was coming from. Fleeing to and defecting to Cameroon are two different thing entirely. When soldiers defect, they swear allegiance to opposing army! But I guess the Op changed the subject matter from 'fleeing' to 'defect' either due to ignorance or to create mischief. Either way, Op is wrong! The operation area is very close to the border with Cameroon. Soldiers can 'flee' (even though the correct word should be retreat) when under immense attack, rather than stay and be annihilated. |
@op, The Nigeria president job does not begin and end with fighting Boko Haram. There are equally other important matter of state to be pursued. A president must be able to multitask! There are capable Field Commanders in charge of the war effort. Engaging boko haram is both a tactical matter and strategic challenge. The tactical issues are handled on the field, while strategic matters are handled of-the battle ground. The president, with his retinue of advisers is best suited for the strategic matter. A short trip to Germany has very little implication on tactical matters! |
In any case when soldiers defect, they move from one opposing army to the other. In other words, Nigeria is at war with Boko Haram not Cameroon, hence our soldiers can only defect from Nigeria Army to Boko Haram terrorists, not join Cameroon's Army. That's why this topic is arrant nonsense! |
Nigerian soldiers defect? Arrant nonsense!! It's not even on BBC website, the so called source! I am sure this is another of Shekau propaganda, given life by the anti-GEJ goons! |
Nice feature. This will help like minded people share information (thread) quicker and more efficiently. An upgrade of the 'Following' feature I presume. Keep up the good work Seun! |
I won't pretend I know all the answers, but I will simply use 'common sense' to answer some. GenBuhari: Reasons I argue Ebola is not real is if it was real, why would they need to inflate the deaths and conduct so much propaganda. How do you mean inflate the death? Personally I think the deaths could even be under reported, especially since those affected in poor and remote areas are unlikely to head to hospitals - causing valuable data loss. The 'propaganda' could also be fueled due to access to new news and social media. Why is there no videos / educational videos of people dying from Ebola and suffering the alleged symptoms?I wouldn't want the painful death of my loved ones become an object of public perusal and discourse. The dead and dying deserve respect and dignity - they deserve privacy. So videos could be made and used in controlled situation for observations and studies, not for public consumption. Why is that in 36 years this dangerous virus has only claimed 2,500 lives (according to the propagandist themselves)?2,500 is not 'only', it's huge! With proper information and disease management, the figures should have been lower. Why in 36 years all the virus ever does is move from one African region to another and it never gets out of Africa?.Ill people hardly embark on long journey, let alone across the Atlantic, unless your name is Patrick Sawyer! It is also possible that it was not reported as it did not create an epidemic due to better management. As single death is unfortunate, large number of deaths is statistics! Get it? Why do you never hear of an infant dying from the disease?Check explanations two above. Why are Liberian locals resisting the Ebola centres and accusing them of making people ill?Ignorance! And ignorance is actually the biggest challenge in the management of this crisis. They need better education, otherwise they are endangering themselves and loved ones. Sawyer resistance and denial led to the death of a few people beside him! Many many questions that do not add up.Rabies <> Ebola. If you are infected with Rabies today, you can get vaccination; you can get vaccinated even before the infection. If you contract Ebola, the likelihood of death via hemorrhage fever is very, very high. And as at yet there is no vaccine. I have decided to stop getting my news from western (white man) news media.I reckon then then you are not a fan if international club football. Or how else would you know that Chelsea FC defeated lowly Leicester City, or that Man Utd drew with Sunderland? I rather pick and choose, read between the line, than miss out on the vast knowledge available on the international scene via Western Media. Your call! |
Freiburger: What a write up!!!Thanks. I hardly frequent this section though. |
And the South gets very angry and bitter and start sabotaging pipelines. Op, your suggestion is very foolish! Are you an APc e-rat at by any means? |
Can someone tell Mr. Obansanjo and the Yeye man, that we are heading for 2019 with confidence and alacrity. If he misses the transformation train, he will be solely on his own. "There's no stopping us now .." FRESH AIR |
Op, thanks for the invitation. And thank you Berem for acknowledging my contributions to the dynamics of this section I will be brief. Soon after the current outbreak of Ebola, after the emergency of the experimental drugs (a serum) - Zmapp, I began to wonder if there is indeed a foul play somewhere. Perhaps a direct consequence of having seen several movies (24hrs Season 7 for example) in which corrupt western pharmaceutical companies, use corrupt and strife rife African countries to conduct human trials on bio-agents (usually deadly pathogens), preparatory for bio wars, especially during the cold war era. Now 1970s-80 Congo (Zaire then) was deeply enmeshed in this politics of cold war, with the inanely corrupt Mobutu Sese Seko backed by several US presidents, including the notorious Nixon, as cold war ally. The first Ebola outbreak was in Congo (Zaire) in 1976. You do the maths. Now whether it was a bio-agent gone awry, or whether it is one of nature's potent weapons of population and resource control, and forest conservation; whether hyped or un-hyped , Ebola is real, and it's killing people! One can argue that the objective of the current 'noise' about Ebola is to push z-mapp and other experimental drugs/vaccines and make someone rich, but one cannot argue against the fact the preventive options available are relatively inexpensive, and practicable. And they are beneficial and effective in the long run. In other words, washing hands with soap, avoiding fluids from ill people, avoiding wild animals (sticking to domesticated animals for food), etc are all good hygiene practice which benefit everyone whether rich or poor! It will certainly help in preventing/ curtailing other equally deadly epidemics, such as Cholera which is killing more people in Ghana, than Ebola has done in some affected countries. My conclusion is that, this ruckus about Ebola will surely pass, but West Africa, which is worst hit now, should be able to learn a thing or two about epidemic management, and thus be better prepared in future. |
So how did he evade arrest? I thought I was going to read a thesis on "Evasive Maneuvers" not this cock and bull story about some ability to "appear and disappear at will". |
egift: I just got vindicated. I did state earlier you are living on Presumptions. Has Jonathan declared? No. Next!So tell me the facts in the comment below, if you are not living on presumptions? ![]() egift: 1. Northerners cannot. Nigerians will. After sending him back to the creek to practice his Zoology. This nation will review every single penny he spent, and have him locked up. |
soroptimist: I hope the 'Nigerians' who loves and adore Jonathan include the Millions in the North you all call parasites, leech,Boko haramists, nama, cow and stoopid dirty thingsBy 'you all' I assume you refer to a cross-section of Nairalanders who represents a negligible percentage of the voting populace from their regions, and by yorubas, I presume you are referring to the die-hard APC goons who will rather follow Tinubu than think for themselves? In anycase, 2015 is not far off, soon boys will be separated from Men! |
egift: Neither is the PDP having any candidate. Except you are one of those that live on presumptionsIsn't it obvious who the PDP candidate is/would be? And isn't it obvious that is not sure who will lead the line for them (APC) by 2015! |
T9ksy: Who are this nigerians who love Jonathan to die? Do you perchance mean SS and SE. 'Cause from my vintage view point, iWe can continue to debate this without coming to agreement. But by Feb 14, all confusion as per the support of the president will be put the rest. For now I am 100% sure that you certainly don't speak for yoruba or northners, whom I believe have capable spokespersons! |
egift: 1. Northerners cannot. Nigerians will. After sending him back to the creek to practice his Zoology. This nation will review every single penny he spent, and have him locked up.But Nigerians love him, bar a few of them like you, and would resoundingly return him for another four years to complete the good work he started. In any case, there is no opposition as yet to his candidacy. |
That's the process that will unravel them. The disappointment many of the gladiators in this Anger and Pain Contraption will feel when their expectation are cut short by the scheming Tinubu will be of mega proportion. I see many of these APC chieftains scampering in different direction and looking for a party join after the contraption's presidential primary. Let's the end begin!! |
