PoliticsRe: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by PointB: 12:42pm On Mar 11, 2013
take dat: Slow your roll! If the FACELESS APC had long submitted their application to INEC before the merger came to be, why didn't INEC as a neutral umpire immediately informed the coalition party when they came out with the communique of forming APC, that there is an existing application for the same acronym as picked by the merger? INEC cannot claim it wasn't notified by the respective parties in the coalition of their intention to go into a merger, so why wait for weeks before making it known to them? Since 7th of February, INEC just saw the need to call their attention to it on the 10th of March after all the publicity! What a Mockery of institutional incompetence!
Anyway from another thread:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that a group, African Peoples Congress (APC), has approached it for registration as a political party.

The chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, My Kayode Idowu, who disclosed this to NEWSACROSS last night during a telephone interview, said that the group had filed an application for registration as a political party only last week.

He, however, added that the group must fulfill certain criteria before it can be registered.

When asked if the action of the group was meant to stall the registration of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Idowu replied: “We don’t have any application from the All Progressives Congress with us, as the body is yet to approach us for registration.
My documents are ready. I have a better chance of registering a party as All Patriots Congress (APC) than All Progressives Congress have of registering theirs. cheesy grin grin
All Progressives Congress is simply not serious!
PoliticsRe: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by PointB: 12:28pm On Mar 11, 2013
take dat: The parties involved in the coalition had earlier notified INEC of their intention to go into a merger. There are certain procedures/requirements to be fulfilled by the parties, before approaching INEC for a name change. During the course of fulfilling those requirements, they came up with a name so as to prove their seriousness and convince cynics of their readiness and true intention. Agreed that meeting the requirements requested by INEC would take time, there is nothing wrong if INEC called their attention to the other association requesting the same acronym as chosen by the coalition. The only thing wrong with it was the hush-hush manner the other party rushed to INEC. That was why I asked for the time and when the party approached INEC, and who the major movers of the party are. The desperation involved in packaging the other party, is the reason why some of us are crying foul!

There is nothing sacrosanct about APC, and like you said, party names don't win elections. I am sure the political actors involved in the coalition are savvy enough to have a Plan B and C. They are well aware that PDP will make moves to stymie the merger!
The only way a party can notify INEC of its intention is by applying for registration. I dont thing INEC should be reserving name for any party, when it should be first come first serve. Reserving name for some party bestows undue advantage. Informing other interested party that a name has been reserved is therefore out of the question. For all we know, the other party might be pranksters or groups of opportunistic individuals who are just trying to frustrate the merger, or make some money by selling the name. If however they meet the requirements, it will be unlawful for INEC to deny them registration, in the name of waiting for the merger to finalise their endless debate on logos, and whats not. The mergers failed to do the right thing at the right time. This is simply their fault; blame not INEC or the opposition.
PoliticsRe: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by PointB: 11:51am On Mar 11, 2013
Paul John: All progressives congress hasn't been registered and yes the 'APC' can be used by any party. You should know that when everything is set and the parties merging to form the APC have concluded, all positions these merging parties have won automatically belongs to the newly formed APC.
Also, the African people's congress is not qualified to be registered, this party is still the weakest party in Nigeria today, parties that have won at least a local government were de-registered for being too weak, while African people's congress was so strong even without any position presently on ground and was registered.
Isn't that funny?!
Oga, stop reasoning with your co/ck. How do you expect as new party requesting registration to have won election? Is that the requisite for registration? In which country is that done? The reality remains that thet APC acronym is up for grabs. Let the party which first meet all the requirements have it.

I am doing debating this with you, something is definitely wrong with your thought process.
PoliticsRe: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by PointB:
Paul John: Wasn't it of recent parties were de-registered and others forced to merge for being too weak. Identify any position the Africas people's congress has won to be so strong enough even than parties that won a ward and were de-registered to have been registered with INEC.

Conspiracy
All Progress Congress (if I may use it) hasn't won any position/election either. So what's your point?

Anyway, if I must repeat it to you. African Peoples Congress like All Progressive Congress are both unregistered party. The former has applied for reregistration, while the later is still struggling with logo, while mouthing off. What would you have INEC do, oga?
PoliticsRe: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by PointB: 11:18am On Mar 11, 2013
take dat: My questions to you are, when did the FACELESS APC approach INEC? Why was it shrouded in secrecy for this long, knowing fully well that the coalition party had also chosen the same acronym? Why haven't we seen the movers of the other APC come out to lay claim to the acronym, since they were the first to approach INEC? Bro, all na Abracadabra of INEC and their puppeteer!
Party are not registered on pages of newspapers or online forum. Anyone who wishes to register a party know exactly what to do. I don't think there is any law requiring them to publish their intention. For all we know, they might have been planning the registration before the merger even thought of a name. And their prudence neccessiated that they act now or lose their name.

The merging party can either approach them, or choose a different name. Party names don't win election anyway, so game on!

Maxymilliano: It will be tomfoolery for anyone to blame INEC.
Don't mind the clowns, instead of them to open a negotiation with the right APC (African Peoples Congress) or looking for get another name they are crying blue murder. Who told these jokers that party names win elections in Nigeria. Bunch of clowns.

I wish to join fellow Progressive in supporting the motion that General Mumunmadu Buhari should anoint a successor and quit the political stage for younger and more dynamic democrat. Nigeria of 21st is too sophisticated for him, and ancient brand to manage. All progressive click like! cool

Mr. Garri:
Yes ooo!!

Its not a joke anymore, it's a fact:

PDP has merged with INEC...

We are watching....

cool cool cool
What kind of crap is this. So the INEC should refuse to consider a party which has sent it's applications, and choose rather to wait for people who are still fighting over logos and colors? Why do some of you folks have a warped sense of justice? Why is it only right when it favours you?

Guy,
Let me put it this way, All Progressive Congress has not applied for registration, but African Peoples Congress has. Please advice INEC.
PoliticsRe: ACN & CPC Accuse PDP of floating Another APC by PointB: 10:05am On Mar 11, 2013
Paul John: ^^
Haha, 'strategy' indeed.
I'm sure you'd have crucified the opposition had it been they've used this same 'strategy' cheesy you're being sentimental.
It's not about being sentimental, it about reality. I am not a card carrying member of any party. I vote for the right candidate. The opposition should sort themselves out, this is one of their trials. There are many good acronyms out there. Unless that a deficient in ideas, they should be able to solve this simple matter.

PoliticsRe: ACN & CPC Accuse PDP of floating Another APC by PointB: 9:17am On Mar 11, 2013
Paul John: I think it's the weaker party that should be so desperate in using any trick available to challenge the bigger party. It seems it's the other way round, shameless PDP must so scared to have gone to this far if true. While some Laptop crew members wanted us to believe PDP is at ease with the emergence of the merger cheesy
It's obvious PDP has only survived due to poor democracy being practiced in Nigeria before now. All in all, I wish the right person is eleccted irrespective of the party he or she is with.
I disagree.

Politics is a strategy game. Preventing the juncture of your enemy is one of the strategies of the game. PDP has every right to legally frustrate the registration of APC, that is if they are even responsible for this. Next time when other parties contemplate a merger, they should understand the importance of getting all agreement and paper work done before going public.

But with so many loquacious characters and Lai(s) in the merging parties, such shoddy job is not unexpected. I expected them to waste more time whining and crying PDP instead of them to go back to the drawing board and do things the right way.

Bunch of desperate ignorant people. grin grin cheesy cheesy

All Progressive Congress, a party on paper! grin grin cheesy cheesy

Na wa oo. How can a party which cannot get something as simple as registration right, be trusted with a local government, least of all a state. I laugh like Obj.

Bob_E: How can some one’s house be bigger than an Airport, a place where aircraft land and take off, the runway can some times be up to several kilometers. If it the airport lounge you are talking about, say so precisely and tell when you visited the place yourself, to enable us know that you are giving first hand account and not what you were told or otherwise. More over, the fact that the governor here is from Acn does not mean we are in opposition. We are getting our fair share of the national cake and beside GEJ is from nearby bayelsa, a fellow south-south state just like us. If you think we would turn our back on him, you are in for a shocker.
Bros, no one argues with Musiwa1 - 100.

If he says your urinal is bigger that Murtala Airport, so be it. By the way didn't he refer you to the satellite picture? Have you seen the satellite picture? You will see the satellite pictures, and the sight will set you free. cheesy cheesy grin grin Those of us who have seen the satellite picture give Musiwa1-100 maximum respect and co-operation, usually demonstrated by giving the satellite picture master a very wide berth.

Why is he so lily livered? Preferring rather to make noise on the pages of newspaper.

ndu_chucks: There is no reason to believe that, if he runs, Buhari will lose the states he won during the last election. I submit to you that, as the APC candidate, he will win Edo, most of the SW states, and one or two more states in the SE, in addition to the ones he won in the North during the last election. GEJ or anyone else will be defeated by such showing.

No?
Buhari to win Edo, and one or two more states in the SE. This must be some funny joke! Hehehehehe

PoliticsRe: North Shops For Vice-Presidential Candidate by PointB: 8:39pm On Mar 10, 2013
It's quite a shame that some folks also bury their heads in the sand on the grave import of a ticket which does not underscore the religious sensibility of Nigeria. Some ignorant muse point rather casually to the 1993 election tightly controlled by the military and annulled for some unknown reasons as pointer to religious passivity in Nigeria politics.
I laugh hahahaha

Let me ask those folks, was Sharia ever elevated to state penal code then as it is now in some Northern state? Were people harassed for selling/buying alcohol prior to 1993 elections? Did any stateman in the mould of Buhari asked muslims to vote muslim prior to 1993 election? Was there boko haram, and were churches bombed indiscriminately and christians slaughtered at every opportunity run up to the election? Were dogs and baboons threatened by a fanatical ex-leader of muslim religion?

Nigeria has changed and will keeping evolving. We are in the era of ethnic and religious awareness.

It is in keeping up with religious awareness that I surmise that Muslim/Muslim ticket cannot guarantee that strict islamic law will not be elevated at national level, nor checked at the state; and it cannot guarantee the ways of life of Christians, atheists, and animists. A religiously balanced ticket cannot guarantee same either, but it does offer great hope. And hope is a huge factor in every political permutation. Nigeria will abhor a MUSLIM/MUSLIM ticket in 2015, any party that fails this simple test, is wasting it's time, including the PDP!
PoliticsRe: North Shops For Vice-Presidential Candidate by PointB: 8:21pm On Mar 10, 2013
Let us continue to be brutally frank on this issue. It is a complete insult on the sensibility of the three wise men from the south (Fashola, Oshimole, and Rochas) to be told to take a back seat while some unknown quantity (from bowel of hell maybe) is dug out and foisted as master over them. Moreso, when these folks have achieved more than whoever is going to be brought to head them. It is an insult to all the coalition partners in APC, and an insult to Nigerians.

Why always North?
PoliticsRe: Can An Igbo Man( Or Woman) Be President Of Nigeria by PointB: 3:43pm On Mar 10, 2013
Any citizen can be President of Nigeria provided the country remains one.

Just as 'the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong..." The Presidency is not for the strong or the most intelligent. It is a matter of ' ...time and chance.'

So yes, it is a matter of time. 2015, 2019, etc present ample chances (opportunities). If some people, including some naysayers have to die off before this happen, so be it. Fact is that Nigeria will have to confront a President of Igbo extraction. The sooner the better though.
PoliticsRe: APC: Fashola, Oshiomhole, Okorocha Tipped As VP Nominees by PointB: 2:30pm On Mar 10, 2013
mikeansy: That is your problem.

I doubt you can openly say such racist and tribalist views in public in Nigeria. So ask yourself why you spew such hateful views in private. You need some soul searching. You need to find peace with yourself. I am not worried about producing the President of Nigeria. There are better things to loose sleep over my friend!
I think you waste too much engaging the drunk. Some people are best left to wallow in their piteous state of hatred and ignorance.
PoliticsRe: APC: Fashola, Oshiomhole, Okorocha Tipped As VP Nominees by PointB: 1:50pm On Mar 10, 2013
Omo_Tier1: What experience has Rochas got to become the Vice President of this country? Do you even realise that the office of the Vice President and that of the SFG is the power house of the government? Rochas should remain in IMO State and show us that He truly understands government. Fashola, Oshiomhole both have demonstrated their capacity to manage complex societies and bring about positive change even in the face of threats, blackmail, and despair and have done so courageously. We need such people in the presidency. Rochas has not demonstrated much of these qualities yet and He needs to do so by bringing IMO State out of the ashes.
Perhaps you didn't read me right. I did not ask that Rochas should go for the Vice President position. My suggestion is that CPC should give him the nod for as Presidential Candidate. That is the only way they can pull the rug off the incumbent's feet. And since the Vice Presidency is the power house of government by your estimation, that position should be reserved for the Northern candidate. Fashola and Oshimole should go to the senate to help strengthen the legislative arm of government. That is where their input is required for now.

I think Rochas/Ribadu ticket is more like it. They both bring fiery developmental passion and vision to the table. Exactly what Nigeria need. And Nigerians will certainly warm up to it.
PoliticsRe: Boko-Haram's Plot To Shoot-down Jonathan’s Plane Foiled by PointB: 10:44am On Mar 10, 2013
I believe the Sultan of Sokoto and those Borno elders who stuck out their neck to urge amnesty for Boko Haram should use the new found voice to reign in the Boko boys. They know them, and know how to reach them, and the earlier they reign them in the better.

If these boko bastards had succeeded in harming the President in anyway with those deadly arsenal, it would have been goodbye to Nigeria. If that is what the Northern leadership wants (end to Nigeria) they should say so and use the 'numbers' to push it with support from ever ready and willing south. But plotting to kill the president is the most foolish way to go about it. They should thank the JTF for saving their ar/se!
PoliticsRe: APC: Fashola, Oshiomhole, Okorocha Tipped As VP Nominees by PointB: 9:42am On Mar 10, 2013
My candid advice to APC: Pick Rochas as your presidential candidate and pair him with a muslim from the North. Pitch it as strategy to re-unite the country. 8 years later power can go back to the North
.

Any other permutation hands power back to the incumbent.
PoliticsRe: North Shops For Vice-Presidential Candidate by PointB: 9:05am On Mar 10, 2013
OsunOriginal: What is all these shout about xtian this xtian that? Why are xtians this bigoted and always concerned about the religion of the leader? If the muslims also come out to insist on a muslim leader, what will happen? The Boko Haram situation we are now presently facing in the north.

Xtians should focus more on their religion rather than politics here and there.
Christianity does not equate to stupidity. Good Christians should be actively involved in politics; and should also understand that best way to guarantee their way of life and religion is by ensuring that balanced religious mix at top level of government. So yes, it is important as Christians to say NO TO MUSLIM/MUSLIM TICKET.
PoliticsRe: Ladipo Market: Fashola Raises Committee On Conflict Resolution by PointB: 4:12pm On Mar 09, 2013
The whole fiasco of closing a market and then setting up a committee to look into the problems that resulted into the closure portrays Fashola as someone who acts before he thinks. It could be that something more sinister is the motivation here, perhaps zenophophia and malice for Igbos as some have suggested. If that is the case, he will again fail woefully!

Otherwise, like many rational commentators have posited in this thread, what stopped Gov'nor Fashola from setting up committee composed of the traders and government official to understand and proffer solutions prior to the closure. This is even more so when Fashola did not provide some of the basic facility needed at the market.

Closing the market before setting up a committee to look at the challenges is simply putting the cart before the horse. Fashola as usual has goofed big time, and this, like some of his other ill thought actions, will certainly come back to haunt him.
