eGuerrilla: Comrade PointB, the simple truth is that APC-APC has a much steeper hill to climb before it can meet the criteria for registration, but then you already know this.

Now, since there appears to be no room for scruples in the high-wire game of politics currently playing out within the NL commentariat, I fully understand what informs your feigned indignation cheesy

Source
Of course. I expect that APC, with the 'caliber' of people it parades know the basics of registering a party. I also believe, having attempted a merger last season, they should know the requirements expected for registering a party created as a result of merger. So it is very disappointing to see these men gallivanting around and mouthing off whereas the basic thing has not been done.

Well, my people say he who brought ant infested woods home, ultimately invite lizards to a banquet. APC deserve all the derision they get on this issue. They should learn to do first thing first.

The requirement is huge, but not an insurmountable one, they should get their ar/se up and earn their laurels.

PoliticsRe: Why Nigerian Cant Have A Northern President Come 2015 by PointB: 8:57pm On Mar 12, 2013
pazienza: Ok, i get your point. But lets be real, incase of disintegration of nigeria, ijaw as a country cannot stand against a greater yoruba country in a land dispute, considering that they are likely to be equally engaged in land dispute with bini people and possibly igbos( as in regard to bonny and opobo. *cool*). They simply don't have the population and unity to fight at all those fronts at the same time, especially against much stronger and populous adversaries.

It seems nigeria's disintegration will test ijaw tenacity and unity to it's limit. It would be interesting to see how they will handle it.
That's well put. I reckon Ijaws already know that they cannot survive in a fight against multiple adversaries. The way I figure it, Ijaws will ultimately evaluate their options, including deciding who they share more in common with and who is in better position to protect their interest. In the end, I expect that they'll make good choice and not open multiple fronts. And of course, since Igbo have no history of conflict with Ijaws, I believe the Ijaws will find it much easier to reach agreement with the Igbos than for instance with the Itshekiris or Binis. But I seriously doubt Igbos will be involved in war with any Southern groups (including Yorubas) in the event of Nigeria's disintegration.

The All Progressives Congress has expressed its preparedness to receive the Peoples Democratic Party governors sympathetic to the embattled Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, into its fold following the governors’ threats to leave the PDP.

The spokesmen for three of the four parties in the merger, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH, were optimistic that the governors and other PDP members would defect to APC as the crisis in the ruling party deepens.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Lai Mohammed, said it was only natural for politicians leaving the PDP to join the APC.

He, however, clarified that the merger neither initiated nor fuelled the crisis in the ruling party.

He said, “The four parties that formed APC–ACN, Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party, and All Progressives Grand Alliance – are not the architect of PDP’s problems. In fact, the crisis PDP is facing today predates the coming together of these four parties. But we will be the greatest beneficiaries of the disintegration of PDP.

“On our own, we have not set out to destabilise the PDP, what is happening now was bound to happen and our merger coming at this time is providing an alternative for disgruntled governors, who are unhappy with the way they have been treated in PDP.”

Mohammed said though none of the governors had officially begun discussion with APC, they would be welcomed if they wanted to join the merger.

“To the best of my knowledge, I’m not aware of any of them officially discussing with APC, but what I know is that some of them have openly declared that the coming of our merger is timely, because their scattered umbrella can no longer hold them. So, we have become the alternative for these governors,” he said.

Also, the National Publicity Secretary, of the CPC, Rotimi Fashakin, said the doors of APC were open to aggrieved PDP members.

He said, “Not just the governors, all those who have suffered oppression and the travesty of justice that is common in the PDP are welcome to join APC. It’s a political party, if they show interest, they will be welcomed.”

Similarly, the National Publicity Secretary of the ANPP, Emma Eneukwu, said the APC would woo the PDP governors, in order to swell its ranks.

“Politics is all about people and getting a state governor over is not a small thing. Even though I’m not aware of any ongoing discussions with the governors, I believe there could be some underground moves, but not to my knowledge yet. It is possible,” he said.

Last week, SUNDAY PUNCH reported that the PDP governors sympathetic to Amaechi were threatening to leave the PDP.

The governors reportedly resent the strong-arm tactics employed by President Goodluck and his men in their bid to take over the party machinery.

Defending the formation of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Political Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, had said the forum under the leadership of Amaechi was being run like a trade union.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Godswill Akpabio, had vowed that “Judases” in the party would be probed.

I'm afraid, I have to agree with PDP here.

APC leaders are bunch of jokers. They prefer to gallivant around rather than do simple things to secure their interest. If these guys (APC) cannot do even the basic stuff, how can they even begin to imagine they can lead a complex system like Nigeria.

Their incompetence in not securing party registration is gross!

PDP mocks APC, says it can’t register party, yet wants to rule Nigeria
Sani Tukur
Published: March 12,2013

PDP says APC has leaders that are arrogant, thoughtless and visionless.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a ridiculing tone, Tuesday, said the newly formed All Progressives Congress, APC, is an illusion and its leaders ‘politically naïve’.

The ruling party lambasted the APC leaders saying they left out something as basic as registering their name and that their APC will not exist, as the acronym has already been taken.

The ruling party described the APC’s publicity as “the hallmark of political naivety, painlessness and a foreboding that the Party will drive Nigeria to socio-political and economic brink should it be entrusted with power”.

The party also chastised the leadership of the new party for failing to “dully reserve or register the proposed name of their party before embarking on bleeping jamboree and propaganda”.

The statement

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, the party said the reality on the ground has shown that the leaders of the APC have been grandstanding while “the first chapter of their history was yet to be successfully written”.

“Nigerians are here confronted with an irony! It is an irony of a political party who without adequate planning, without a solid working rhythm, yet wishes to be entrusted to its effete, shaky shoulders, the fate of over One Hundred and Sixty Million Nigerians,” Mr. Metuh said in the statement.

“How can a group who could not conclude the basic as in due registration of its name be able to manage the affairs of Nigeria at this moment of critical challenge.”

The PDP said the parties that formed the APC have displayed their penchant for arrogance and deceit.

It accused members of the new party of lying when it claimed that some PDP governors and National Assembly members were planning to join them.

“How can a politician worth his onions leave a known, formidable and nationwide political party for a disparate and unregistered amalgam?” the party asked. “This false claim is also a window into the minds of the leaders of the coalition. The summary is that they are waiting for decampees from the PDP to build their party, perhaps, register it for them. What an illusion! What a self delusion!”

INEC’s stance

Kayode Idowu, the spokesperson of Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, issued a statement last week stating that a party called the African Peoples Congress, which shares an acronym with the newly formed All Progressives Congress, has applied to INEC for registration; thereby foreclosing the possibility of registering the All Progressives congress.

This greatly angered the opposition with the individual parties that make up the All Progressives Congress threatening brimstone. The party was formed by the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN; All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP; the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC; and a faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA. Already, the new party has 11 state governors, second only to the PDP.

A stalwart of the CPC and former minister of the Abuja, Nasir El-Rufai said “Any attempt not to register the APC will attract the anger of the Nigerian people. APC has become a mass movement of people who are fed up with bad governance”.

INEC’s claim, false

Also, the spokesperson of the ACN, Lai Mohammed, Tuesday, issued a statement describing the position of Mr. Idowu as a lie.

Mr. Mohammed said the claim by the electoral body as postulated by Mr. Idowu is not supported by INEC’s laws, as articulated by the relevant sections of the Electoral Act regulating the registration of a political party.

It said the truth of the matter is that no party today with the acronym APC has applied to INEC to be registered, adding that even the phantom African Peoples Congress, APC, which is being sponsored by the PDP to lay claim to the acronym – has only written a letter of intent, which has not even been discussed by INEC, not to talk of the commission taking any decision on it.

“The statement credited to Mr. Idowu is therefore reckless and provocative and clearly betrays INEC as truly having merged with the PDP to frustrate the merger of the progressives under the banner of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC). One wonders who the spokesman is speaking for and what interest he represents. He should therefore be called to order before he sets the country ablaze,” the ACN said.

Well Oga Slibeat, that vision of Sir Ahmadu Bello for Nigeria is widely reported. Google can be of great service in case you want to read it from different sources. Here is a more detailed post of his vision for Nigeria as reported:

In the Parrot Newspaper, October 12, 1960, Sir Ahmadu Bello said, “The new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our great grandfather, Othman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power. We use the minorities in the north as willing tools and the south as a conquered territory and never allow them to rule over us and never allow them have control over their future”.

I also believe it is right for OAM4J to explain himself here, and I consider him a very rational individual who is not easily given to tribalism and who will not step out of line to defend his erring brother(s). So if he banned Proud-Igbo, a very decent poster, and allowed the thug Dayokanu roams free, then I believe we should hear him out.

We can continue to debate the right or wrong of the sack or we can move on. The guy has done his bit and it's time for him to face other challenges. If he was competent, he would have groomed other people to comtinue his legacy, and would have institutionalized some of the processes that are critical to better management of the NCAA judging from the years he spent in the industry. If he did do any of those, then he is not good enough, and no one should shed any tears for him.

Finally let's hope a better man/woman is appointed to replace him.

PoliticsRe: Should FG Grant Boko-Haram Amnesty? by PointB:
@Op,
Boko Haram is not any terrifying force. They are a bunch of rag-tag cowards who hide behind women and children. And the present administration is not undermine by boko haram. Rather it is the members of boko haram that are undermining themselves by playing hide and seek with JTF bullets. Several of them are now cold specimen or languishing in various jails across the country. Now you could say that their sponsors may be largely unscathed by their activities, but I can tell you that with several arrests and recovering of weapon cache, the sponsors are seeing their investment go down the drain. As the dragnet encircles them, the cry for amnesty will only get louder. This we understand, but are not moved by.

Furthermore, many members of the JTF have undergone counter-terrorism/insurgency training, haunting down and dispatching members of boko haram to join the growing queue for scarce virgins, is the best way they can put their training to use. And we are happy to pay them (JTF) for that!

The amnesty boko haram members deserve is the one they grant themselves. They should drop their weapons and melt back into the civil population while praying for forgiveness for their sins. God may forgive them, but the JTF should grant them hot bullet just between the eyes as reward for their effort, if they fail to grant themselves amnesty! And if you are one of them, I say repent for JTF bullet is at hand!
