HungerBAD: Kini big deal?
So what does the Election Poster say exactly? that the Naira has been on a free fall from Jonathan's time. Jonathan and his minions mopped up all the Dollars that was in Circulation in Nigeria, when it became clear the PDP will lose the election. And the one that was not mopped up, was stolen by Dasuki in the Billions.
It is this artificial scarcity of the Dollars, created by ALLI BABA(Jonathan) and his 40 Thieves, that is giving us problems now. As i have repeatedly said, things in Nigeria will first get a little worse, before it gets better.
Nigeria's economic woe did not start today, it started from Goodluck Jonathan's time. you are trying to save face, right? Don't worry. By the time $1 starts exchanging for 1000 Naira, your eyes would clear very well. It is becoming obvious that Buhari cannot run Nigeria. The gullible ones have gotten us into 4 years of economic crisis. |
Business › Re: What Exactly Will Go Wrong If The CBN Floods The Economy With Dollars? by poseidon12: 8:01pm On Feb 19, 2016 |
A someone already explained, we do not have enough dollars to flood the market with. Oil sells around 33 Dollars per barrel right now. It was said that it costs us about 30 Dollars per barrel to produce our crude oil. So we are making only about 3 Dollars per barrel. And we are struggling to find buyers because there is oil glut right now. And we have to have some reasonable amount saved in our foreign reserve so that we can pay for our imports. I hear we have enough to last about 6 months right now. So we do not have enough to flood the market. I am not an economist too, but that is the way I see it. |

wink2015: Nigeria is paying a big price because we built our economy on oil and gas. No country succeed on a monoproduct platform such as the one Nigeria finds itself.
Diversification of our economy is the key solution to our prolong suffering all through this years especially now that things are getting much bitterly worse.
Keys sectors the Nigerian leadership must address is:
The power sectors which is the generation of regular electricity: Nigeria need foreign partnership to succeed on this. Forget about this talk about local content. We are still far from developing a standard power sector on our own in Nigeria.
Agriculture: All the 36 states in Nigeria must run Agricultural farms such as ( crop agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and also agro allied industries. It is a shame that at this 21st century, Nigeria is relying on local fulani cattle men for the supply of our cattle meat in Nigeria. We are suppose to have a standard cattle farm with modern technology being run at an industrial level with graduate engaged for employment.
Information technology: we must set up mobile phone assembling plant in Nigeria with foreign partnership.
Solid Mineral sector: The solid mineral sector must be revitalised for economic growth. Take for example, countries such as South Africa are doing well in this area. We have a lot to learn from the South African.
Political Re-structuring: The Buhari government and leadership in the 36 states must sustain the fight against corruption. Secondly, Nigeria must merge our states to regions for economic development. We have to abandon the expensive american presidential system and maybe copy the British parliamentary system of government. The parliamentary system is cheaper and easier to run under our present economic woes. Good recommendations there. But we obviously have an incompetent man as president. |

PS. I gather that the anti-corruption solidarity group actually marched to EFCC's office and Magu came out to greet them. OP, you have no case. It's not if Buhari leaves office but when Buhari leaves office, because he will eventually leave. He should have no reason to fear if he is doing his job following due process. You want a wife who will support you helping others. Not a good advice. It's not easy getting a wife you can happily live with. Nobody is perfect. The woman seems mean but the op said she has redeeming qualities. I believe they can work around this problem. The op should just understand that he has a selfish, mean wife and work around that fact. He does not have to always tell her when he wants to do something for his family. |

AFRICANDICEY: Your brother does not need to come to your house for money; you can do a transfer. Your wife must not always be in the picture. She is not a bad wife but ''over protecting her husband finances''. Be diplomatic with her, always convince her of your reasons. If you can help your brother get a job. Is she really protecting her husband's finances? The op said that she is happy when he helps her family and that she also helps her family. How about the old items which the op replaced with new ones and the wife still opposes his giving it away to his brother. Let's call a spade a spade. |

Family › Re: Help!!..did I Marry The Wrong Lady? by poseidon12: 1:20pm On Feb 18, 2016 |
Yes, I believe you married the wrong lady. She seems mean. But if the only serious problem is her having problems with you helping your brother (who is really in need), I would not advise for divorce. You can sit her down and have a serious talk with her to let her know why you have to be there for your family. Let her know that you and her could find yourselves in similar problem in future. Assure her that this is a temporary situation. Does your wife work? How does she feel about helping her own family? If she contributes to your family income, then it might make sense for you guys to operate a joint account into which each of you would pay a percentage of your income monthly for family expenses. Then you can do what you want with the leftover. Same for her. That way, you don't have to tell her when you need to help a family member. |
Business › Re: Naira Falls To N370 Per Dollar by poseidon12: 12:46pm On Feb 18, 2016 |
4Play: This is part of the story but not the full story. At the heart of the problem is dollar inflow into Nigeria. Oil exports are a major source of dollar inflow and so a fall in oil prices reduces dollar inflow. However, dollar inflow may also come from foreign investors attracted by an improved business climate or even corrupt loot being repatriated.
The pace of Naira's collapse is not simply an oil story but it is a reflection of souring investor confidence in Nigeria both in terms of the policy direction, or more aptly the lack of policies, and a rapidly deteriorating business environment. I have also noticed from speaking to Nigerians that many are looking for a way to get money out of the country to hedge their Naira savings in a foreign currency. So not only are fewer dollars coming in but we are experiencing capital flight.
For years I used to try to drum it into people's heads that Nigeria's economic underdevelopment is not simply a corruption issue. Our poor choice of policies is a more significant factor than corruption. If you have a regime that reduces corruption by $2bn but causes capital flight of $10bn you have not gained anything. The reason why Nigerians like to reduce our problems to the single issue of corruption is that we are a people with a religious mindset and an affinity for simplified moral narratives. Economics is a very complex subject and Nigerians struggle with complexity. Better to construct simplistic narratives based on a foundation of ethnic/religious loyalties and hatreds - Hausa/Fulani Muslim oligarchy v IPOB/Ibo conspiracy - than to tackle the headache inducing complexities of the modern world. I agree completely. That is why I did not vote Buhari although I believed he would run a less corrupt government. I felt he would mess up the economy. A lot of Nigerians believe that as soon as corruption is fought, everything falls in place. But it's not that simple. |
