I grew up in Nigeria till I was 15. I have been to the market several times and I have had to go to the market to buy stuffs for occasions.sad And if the money is not enough, you are to use your personal money for the mean time.

Even here in Britain, if I am asked to withdraw £50 for something and £60 would be the ideal amount. I will use that £50 unless if it is totally impossible to complete the transaction with £50. You can either use your money (which I think k it is better) or withdraw more money.

Maybe I am different Nigerian or it could be my upbringingsad

It could be upbringing but I think the economic climate in the UK doesn't encourage such behaviour as those 100 or 200 naira will amount to nothing but that also doesn't mean if you send a kid to the market with £50 they won't buy crisps or some chocolates out of the money. Just that it's more prevalent in Nigeria.

And I don't see anything wrong with it really. One can't just go to the market without buying something for themselves, there will always be the urge to eat one or two stuff. And for those who don't want to eat anything they might prefer to use the money to top up their phones. Which isn't bad either.

The ogbono must have stayed too long, that's why it tasted like that and didn't draw

She mustn't go to that extent. If we're to look at things that way, then ppl would cook soup with a minimum of 5k.

Last week, I made a pot of Ogbono and I didn't spend N800. It all depends on the available ingredients in your kitchen.

Its even possible to make a pot of Ogbono with N200.

Some people store meat/fish in the refrigerator; if you're the type that hates buying Maggie N20, N50 oil everyday, N10 pepper and other petty neighborhood items. It means you have more than enough oil, Maggie, salt, pepper, crayfish, stock fish, etc at home.

So my conclusion is this:

It is possible and it is also impossible to prepare Ogbono with N1500. Let's assume she plans to buy a small pack of poundo yam or garri, gas or kerosene, and even the tiniest ingredient like onions, that would be impossible.

Besides quantity is another issue here. Some people, like myself, get tired of soup after day 2. So I won't waste my money buying 1 Kilo of meat, 1kilo fish, etc. and every other thing in excess.
