I just finished watching the video and I was really touched.

Sadly this won't change a thing. Like Mi said "honestly no matter how many songs I sing I'll never make a difference"

Sometimes when I observe the level of corruption in this country, it really scares me. Even our educational sector which should have been our only hope is decayed.

Sincerely it will take a divine intervention and not to be pessimistic but I don't see any change happening in Nigeria anytime soon.

So because they are developers they shouldn't celebrate a breakthrough in their industry simply because they were not the one that created it?

You can encourage them to dream and build something different but celebrating WordPress is not a bad thing. In fact this type of meeting should even be encouraged as it gives the rather lonely developers time to meet with one another and share ideas.
