Fhemmmy:we are together, i may beg for reduced sentence for him, but b4 that, he has to be prosecuted. the justice minister is very busy for that. but like i said, i praised the use of the money, so that poor man can at least get what he is supposed to get. i prolly should not have to praise him, i agree, but i had to, b/c i know where i'm coming from. it's been doom, doom, doom from elected officials since 1999, or even since1960 |
gov obi is not the problem. he is a product of the system. we are talking about a system where people can do things and get away with it. if there were punishments for such crimes, he wont dare do what he did or if he does it, he wont dare announce it. we have a system that is so deep in us, every nigerian. as displayed here in nairaland where people cant disagree without abusing each other. a system where criminals get honorary titles, a system where it is a ''great thing'' for a governor/ elected public official to spend public money for public good, a system where electoral malpractices are the norm(even in 2009) a nation of anything goes. to single out a governor, who took money (immorally) to buy buses and taxes for the public is like buying panadol for a headache. we should not just cover the headache with panadol, we should find out the cause of the headache . . . . it could be malaria, or typhoid fever. it it is not treated, the headache will return. |
asha 80:that is how great thinkers operate in nigeria ![]() |
Fhemmmy:fhemmy, i did not praise him. read my initial post please. . .abeg . . i praised how he used it. i did not praise him. bekee ![]() |
intelligent, rational, superior thinkers. . .a.k.a IBB, whose great intelligence told him Babangida was the best person to rule nigeria . . . . ![]() |
IBB, i'm no fool. i'm from imo state, how many buses did my governor put on the road? imagine if the governor used that ''bribe money'' to equip a hospital, say, buy extra oxygen cylinders in a hospital . . . . that can save 1 or 2 lives a day for about 2 weeks . . . . it is ''praiseworthy'' that some lives have been saved by a governors faulty fiscal decision. i'm being practical. i come from a poor background and i know hardship as it were back home. i know what a little relief means for a poor man. it doesnt mean i agree with his ''gift policy'' but i welcome the service rendered. period. it will serve us better to prosecute him than to reject the services the money rendered. |
Fhemmmy:i dont know ur location, but a few yrs ago i was in nigeria. . . then a governor is praised for installing bore hole in a village with state funds . . money that is even enough to make water available in people's homes/bathrooms . . . and a governor is praised for it. nigeria is a nation where it is extraordinary to serve the public with public funds. ![]() |
now u are coming closer to my point. if you read my initial post, you will see where i noted that the nation is so corrupt that someone can think of using this means to look like a hero. . . . this is how bad a nation has become. i hear another election has been annulled. has anyone been prosecuted for all these faulty elections? no punishment. hence the gov can come out with this sh-t b/c he knows there is no punishment. he may even be rewarded. i feel for the masses |
Big B1:if you read my initial post, you will see where i said ''i reject his decision to accept the money'' . . but because u wanted to argue, u left that and underlined the part that suited ur purpose. bribe is bribe, but when the deed is done, who suffers. we can stay in london here to post good grammar, but the guy in onitcha who has a better bus to take him home is a little bit reliefed. he should be prosecuted. but in the meantime, it would have been worse if he used the money to build a castle for himself as his predecessors did. that is my point. |
i agree |
I agree, retarded thinkers praise a governor using money he believes belongs to the state for public good. i totally agree with you. . . great thinker |
Amen. and God bless the people who are enjoying some new buses and taxis . . . and may God never forget the other people who are still managing molues and rickety taxis even though their state has the money . . AMEN!!!! |
Kobojunkie:from this definition, a good lawyer can prove that this is no bribe. 1. it was not given to him to induce him to do something wrong/illegal. . . it was given to him . . after he had done something legal( awarding a contract) 2. it was not given or promised to induce him to do something against his wish. it was his wish to give a contract. anyway, the issue is that the country is soo corrupt, and shamelessly so, that it looks like bravery to come out openly to say this kind of thing . . . and it looks like heroism to state where the money was channeled into. the governor is not the problem, the system is the problem. he cant stop it alone.( though he can do better than that) note that while i reject his decision to accept that money, i still praise how he used it. only God knows how the other governors/ministers/local govt mayors are using their own ''gifts'' to do. in the world of lepers, the man with eczema is the sanitation chief. . . . nigeria ![]() |

wait a minute so there are groups that castrate their fellow human beings in this century. . . and they are complaining about osu issue . . . darfur don suffer . . ![]() osus can sleep with anybabe they take homeor any guy that takes them home, the only thing they may not be able to do, sometimes, is marry a non osu, if the non osu's family objects and the non osus succumbs to family pressure . . . .and y'all are attacking igbos like this, while you get human beings and catrate them and some still bury some dead kings with life human beings and una de attack us like this ![]() abegi, . . . . anyway i knew the thread was not about osu, it was about calling a dog a bad name to hang it______igbobashing exercise . . . . una de try ![]() |
osisi my sister no mind that onu ukpaka akwuna mutara. . . . . nwa ahu wu humpty dumpty ojooo ruru unyi . . . some people really wanted some insight into the osu issue but some had hidden agenda, and already assumed expert authority on igbo issues themselves. i predict that very soon another osu discussion will emanate from nowhere . . . .and new people will learn of it. . . keeping it alive . . .and then turning around to bash us for what our ancestors did. @negro-ntns finally u have come to understand what i've been saying all along. . . dont ask-dont tell works. it will take time to wipe it out finally but it works. . . . anyway, better late than never able to comprehend once again, i reiterate myself, i may need to say it 3ice for u to grab ![]() i am an independent observer, ![]() |

Negro_Ntns:then perhaps you can go and get an osu to speak on that issue ![]() this whole discussion of osu issue by our emergency osu experts is just another igbo bashing ploy , not only are they not offering tangible solutions, they are intentionally being confrontational and judgemental with the intention to bash, accuse, and abuse the igbos. . . . perhaps we deserve it, for what our ancestors did, but the aim of this discussion is to igbobash . . . i understand no stress, . . . . but for the igbos, dont let guilt complex enter you, unless you are racist or prejudicial. any igbo guy here who discriminates against his/her fellow igbo or indeed anybody whatsoever . . .shame on you , but if you are liberal, accept your fellow human being as he/she is, dont go about looking for whom to call one name or the other, then you have nothing to worry about. it's great to be igbo be proud.if you are osu, dont tell me, tell no one, be happy, be proud, b/c you are igbo too. if you want to marry and the osu thing is in the way, decide. . . will you damn ur family and marry or will you sell out ur rlshp? hard decision, but u must choose one, and stand by it. . . . . . . . proudly. if you are osu and u are rejected in marriage, . . pity . . . but dont despair . . . . get another partner . . . it may even be better than the former, smile and move on. @all nigerians . . . . best wishes from the igbos ![]() |

yawn!!!!!! tired of debating with people who will never change. their only guiding principle is "anything against obama is good" . . . .yawn!!! less than a month into office, someone says he is already a failure for the mess he inherited . . yawns!!!!!!! rush lumbaugh blamed obama for the mess while he was still the president-elect . . .yawn!!!!!!!! majority of economists in the US and even the UK have said a stimulus is necessary including old john's economic advicer and mahority of right wing economists, but "sudden on-set emergency economists" and republican holy economists think otherwise . . . yawns!!!!!!!!!! do nothing does nothing but new improved novel prize deserving holy economists think otherwise . . . . "yawn!!!!!! obama has said this thing is not perfect . . . . but is surely better than nothing. but the do-nothingers feel otherwise. . . .yawns!!!!!!!!! okay o, what do i know, i'm just another struggling foreign student trapped in by the river thames . . yawns out!!!!!! |

those fears are not very pronouced in my generation. in my father's generation. . . yes, but in my generation . . no. if i bring a girl to marry, and my father says the girl is osu. he doesnt endorse the girl, what do i do? tell me. i love the girl and i love my father. i want them both. what do i do? tell me. dump my dad, who has loved me all his life? dump a girl, who has done me no wrong? my father's generation grew up with a mind set that we did not experience as we were growing up. we are different. but then until the generation that saw this culture passes away, it may be with us for a while. most young guys i know today know very little about osu, but do you know the good news . . . they dont want to know. imagine a world where no one wants to know about it. it fades away. so dont ask dont tell works but there are experts here who disagree. |
may be after the first female pope, things may change |
@prittygrrr you make valid points. it's serious, should be addressed. . . but how do you propose it is addressed. . . and by who? you guys dont understand the igbo culture and way of life. i have noticed that suddenly non-igbos in nairaland have become experts on igbo affairs. nobody anywhere in this world has the ability to legislate marriage. marriage is something that is a mutual understanding between the persons involved. if i want to marry a white girl and her parents bluntly refuse to accept a black man, nigerian for that matter, what do i do? go to court? if the girl insists, we'll get married regardless. there is no court case here. same with the osu thing. by the way, ignoring it is working. i know some igbo villages where peole get married without asking if the other person is osu. the ngwa people in abia state have ignored it completely and some places in anambra state too. dont ask dont tell will help eliminate it over the generations. there was a time osu and non osus can not use the same market, or walk the same street at a the same time. . . dont ask dont tell has wiped it out. i am igbo, i believe there are osus in my village, but i dont know who. i dont ask. nobody has told me anything. i interact with everybody in the village. who here will say there's injustice in that village? but some people who cant speak igbo have become igbo experts ![]() even some dirty fat humpty-dumpty morons with not only down syndrome but also patau syndrome, edwards syndrome, congenital syphillis all with profound mental retardation ![]() @negro-ntns i am an independent observer @ this is for you ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJyIWXSlfWo |
