JeSoul:
Hehe carry go jor. You didn't respond to my comeback, a good number of democrats voted for Brown, I'm too lazy to find proof.
they must be democrats like me who are livid with rage for the unbelieveable spinelessness of the democrats in congress and thier spinelessness-in-chief at the oval office. I have noticed with dismay how democrats seem to want the public option but are not ready to push it through. harry reid says he will support it if it is brought to the floor and if the white house supports it, the white house says Obama will sigh it if it is brought to him, senators sign documents saying they will support it. . . . . so who will bring it up in the debate? grin

i want all the democrats to loose in november if they are unable to pass healthcare reform b4 the election. i want a 100% republican congress just to purge the democrats and hence open the way for a new generation of democrats who will learn from the downfall of obama and co

lol . . . i think someone said in the past that every population gets the govt it deserves. i guess americans will get a govt they deserve, period. they want tax cuts, they want small govt, yet they want a strong military, strong security, they want to go to the moon, they want to lower premiums and they dont want health reform grin

they rally round candidates backed by insurance companies, how do they think those companies will recuperate the money they've been spending in this health reform battle . . anyway, if you are in america just make sure you are not poor or else you are finished

anyway, one day obama and co will realise that he was not elected to be bipartisan. as collin powel said on sunday, the US is a partisan country from independence. and it wont end bc some dude called barrack was made president. let them keep looking for bipartisanship, when republicans are ready to vote against a bill they proposed if obama endorses it, is it the one obama proposed that they will support? grin sometimes i feel obama thinks he is jesus or something grin

Foreign AffairsRe: Ethnic Politics In The Uk by preselect(m): 6:53pm On Feb 23, 2010
the royal family is usually of mixed ancestry and one may have to go as far back as the war of the roses in the 16th century to look for pure english kings if any.
nevertheless, the british accept their kings/queens as they are and accept them as ''english''.

however it is not the same in politics or even everyday life in the UK. infact, many of them dont even see themselves as 'british' but as scottish, welsh, english or irish. just go to wales and ask the average guy in newport if he is british and he'll tell you ''i'm welsh''. this enters into their politics as well.

don't think their is no ethnic politics in the UK, there is ethnic politics everywhere except that the civilised world is civilised about it while we in nigeria carry guns to settle our own scores. those people have their own issues too. there is intense animosity in those guys too. i once met a lady who was travelling to cardiff to have her child and when i asked why she wont have the baby in london she replied that she wants her child to be ''officially welsh''. (whatever that meant.lol.)

anyway, tony blair identifies as english and is accepted as english and that settles it. the article posted by angiefan says it all, their last scottish PM was alec home. note that the only welsh PM was lloyd george

just for curiosity, what do u mean by digging deep into one's ancestry? i only showed u an article from wikipedia, is that ur idea of digging deep?

anyway, this debate is irrelevant, to the british, blair is english. period. it doesnt matter what we debate here.
Foreign AffairsRe: Ethnic Politics In The Uk by preselect(m): 4:02am On Feb 23, 2010
dont get worked up, the english people see tony blair as their own, and gordon brown as a scott. period. Obama may be officially an american but tell that to his blood brothers in kenya.

if my daddy was adopted by yorubas and given a yoruba name and i was born in lagos with a yoruba name, it doesnt change the fact that igbo blood runs in my veins. whatever documents may say about my identity it doesnt change the fact.

by the way, last time i checked, i was not the one who posted the article about scottish PMs, and about wikipedia, well i referenced it, fine, we know it is not perfect but why dont you bring evidence to refute that fact that his father was a child of some english couple. . . the guy is english, period. and if millibrand's ancestors were jews he is debatably of jewish stock, you may want to call him israeli, its ur business.

Rubbish
Tony blair is a scot as had previous PMs.
get ur facts right, tony blair is english. he may have been born(and lived) in scotland, but he is as english as they come

They dont only recent Gordon Brown but the labour party as a whole. It appears they have passed their sell by date.
Even if it were an English man heading the party such as Milliband, Johnson etc, the outcome for labour at the polls remains the same
A certain electoral defeat and humiliation.
labour is unpopular bc things are rough all over the world and in real democracies people are against incumbents at this time, but the conservatives will run things down the more

I accept that what the military is doing is barbaric. I ask, who has a better plan? someone suggested petition and speaking. . . . . . i laugh in swahili. . . . .before you finish your speach, another 1,000 are matcheted in another city. b4 u get a pen to write your petition, another city is on fire with 200 missing citizens. what happens while you are writing ur petition? this people have to be contained now or else . . . . .

imagine when these militia become greater than the military . . .
jos today, sagamu 2mrw, aba 2day, maidugiri 2mrw, ife/modakek 2day, kano 2mrw, bauchi next day, kaduna again, back to jos, then ijaw/itsekiri, okoyong/akwa-ibom today, jos again 2mrw, nasarawa 2day, kaduna again . . etc . . etc . . etc . . year in year out . . . looooooooong before i was born . . . . today i'm a full adult . . the story is the same . . . and someone wants to write a petition to end what started b4 you were born.

i may not like what the military is doing, but who has a more practical solution? and pls let the petitioners start by asking the govt to spend more money for the police training and maintainance. these officers look like hoodlums themselves
PoliticsRe: Extra-judicial Murder Of Innocent Nigerians - Viewer Discretion! by preselect(m): 7:19pm On Feb 11, 2010
@ode-remo
thanks for understanding. many people here see this video, they are shocked. they have not seen anything like this before. i was shocked too. think a bit more, why are we not equally shocked when we hear of ethno-religious violence in nigeria? i'll tell you, we have become used to it. yes, it is now a tradition. but i refuse to accept such nonsense. it has to stop. if it means returning the military to power to use force at random, let it be.

a lot of innocent people will die in this military killings, sure, but some if not most(or even all) of those killed by the military are guilty. and more importantly, their presence and show of force will prevent or at least halt this incessant killings. and dont forget, if they didnt come at all, the hoodlums will kill more people, all of them innocent. so choose.

let us not decieve ourselves, our country, nigeria, is fvcked up. there is nothing any of us can do about it and if any diasporan nigeria disagrees, let him go home and live in a part of the country other than where his ancestors lived. what we should be thinking now is how to deliver a more sane country to the next generation of nigerians(those who will be born this yr 2010, and beyond) let themhave a country where they can live anywhere at will. and to do this we must bring peace, education and democracy. if we cant do this then let us all destroy the nation bc i see no reason in producing children who will suffer in this country when the rest of the world is moving forward. this is 21st century. how many countries on earth still have this trend of killing their own citizens for no reason. It has to stop . . .somehow . . anyhow . . . it must stop. THIS NONSENSE MUST STOP

The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.

in the 1950s, the AG, a political party with a huge support base in the south-west wanted to hold a rally in the northern city of kano, a riot broke out out easterners, mainly igbos were slaughtered.

ok, lets start from independence

1966: anti ironsi's ''unity'' decree riots in the north. igbos and easterners slaughtered in many cities in the north including kaduna, katsina, kano etc
july 1966: pre civil war progrom, 30,000 igbos slaughtered allover the north
1980s: maitasaine riots in many parts of the north, gombe, yola etc. thousands of christians murdered in cold blood. Gen Idiagbon had to crush it militarily when shagari was overthrown. elements of maitasaine remained up till the late 80s
1991:reinhard bonnke came to preach in kano, anti-xtian riots broke out in kano, xtians and igbos attacked mercilessly.
1992:zagon kataf riots, kaduna exploded. northern muslims vs northern xtians. for the first time, someone was arrested, charged and later released.
1999:ife/modakeke, aguleri/umuleri, border communities in cross-river/akwa-ibom states, niger-delta uprising etc. thousands die. . . no arrests, no trials
2000: sharia riots. . . kaduna and retaliatory explosions in Aba and Onitsha
2001:Jos, a very peaceful city explodes with religious violence . . .
2002:anti miss world riots in kaduna. . . hundreds killed, no arrests, no trial, no conviction.
2004: jos again, jos would explode again in 2008,2009, and even 2010. . . (annual jos riots)
2008/9: boko haram came

the list is endless, i'm sure i left out a lot. ahaaa, bauchi riots of 1991, there are others too . . . not counting the senseless killings on our campuses

these riots have one thing in common . . . no arrests, no trials, no conviction. . . the killers live to kill another day. the judicial system in nigeria seemed ill equipped to take care of this mess and the mess keeps getting messier. what shall be done?

i dont want to come here and claim that i have the solutions, but i know something we all agree on. . . this has to stop . . .somehow
what more can i say. all these killings affect real human beings and families are damaged forever. this is not life. i guess it is better we all drop dead. let the russians nuke us all and use our land for nuclear tests. if we cant live together, we might as well die together but this periodic unchallenged violence must end.
and pls i'll like to have a video of all the people who have been killed since 1953(excluding the civil war, where some people will excuse that for war)
PoliticsRe: Extra-judicial Murder Of Innocent Nigerians - Viewer Discretion! by preselect(m): 6:26pm On Feb 11, 2010
some people here dont seem to understand me. i may seem barbaric, perhaps i am, but i'm not crazy. violence begets violence. there are things that must not be tolerated in a society. NEVER. let me put out 3 examples. 2 nigerian and 1 american. charity begins at home. . .
1. secession. this was something that nigeria will not tolerate. and when it happened, it was crushed. no debate, no petition, no long speeches, it was crushed to the pit. cost=2.5 million lives. message= let no one bring this topic again.

2. mass murder of ''non indigenes''. why should i, a nigerian, feel more safe in a remote village in england with racists than in katsina, my own country? why?
every time thousands of nigerians are killed. no arrest. no punishment. some peeps think they can do anything and get away with it. do something once, it is a mistake, twice incompetence, thrice--habit, > 3x=tradition. it has become a tradition for people to wake up and murder those from another ethnic group. and you tell me it is one country. let us break up, ooops, i forgot, that is off the table, what do we do? we dont have efficient judicial system due to corruption, so what happens? somebody say something. bc while you are thinking of a solution, another 1-2000 nigerians are being killed somewhere. this nonsense must stop. I support using full force to end this. either there is peace for all or peace for no one.

3. 600,000 people had to die b4 slavery could end in america. in nigeria at least 50,000 have died since the 1950s and still this nonsense continues. i am glad they are showing these videos of the military killings and i hope they are showing the clips in nigeria too. so that people can at least think twice b4 they carry arms to kill their neighbour.
