@jesoul there are two bills, the house version, with public option, and the senate version with a bunch of BULL. these are the naim stuff in it. if you want details of the bills, like david said, it's in the web. find it, and read it. . . i wish you luck. FYI, congressmen/women dont read the bills they pass. it didnt start today. has been so b4 we were born. that's why they have staff who do these things for them and advise them. @uchenna Obama, i believe, really meant it when he wanted to have these things on c-span. but he has come to face the reality of washington. however i guess it is fair game tosay that if he gained popularity during the campaign by making this kind os promises, then he can as well plummet in the polls for not fulfilling them. but that is not my stress, i'm going for the bigger picture. there are forces in the land who will instigate these minor discussions to distract the main issue and delay and perhaps block reform. if Obama doesnt get this stuff done, him and his party will be decimated. then perhaps america will need another party to bring up this healthcare issue and it may take another century to do so. i guess. or even worse still, a huge statistical health calamity is what may bring back healthcare reform to the discussion, but with the recent supreme court decision of co-operate funding . . . lol . . . . forget it in our lifetime if it is not done now . . i hope i'm wrong, i really do, but i doubt it. |

just last yr, some conservative elements made a damming expose on acorn. they posted some videos in the internet and hell let loose. without waiting for clarification, without asking questions, the US senate, with 60 democrats, voted overwhelmingly to end financial assistance to acorn. acorn was under assault from the right wing bandits. a few weeks ago, a report came out that acorn did not do anything wrong as an organisation. this is one way to know a lie, there will be accusations but no real arrest. some individuals working for acorn did something bad and were taken care of by the law, and the right assaulted acorn as a whole and the senate agreed fast fast. acorn is one of the chief organisers of grassroot voters who usually vote democrats. they were assaulted with democrats in senate voting for the ''assault''. yet these republicans shamelessly voted against a bill brought to the senate floor by senator al franken. a bill to punish anyone who despoils a woman regardless of if the despoil was in iraq/afghanistan etc (on the background of a despoil case involving some worker in iraq or afghan and his lawyers proved that he cant be charged b/c he was working for some big shot company that helps the war effort.) http://www.minnpost.com/stories/2009/10/06/12247/senate_passes_franken_amendment_aimed_at_defense_contractors republicans shamelessly voted against it. thats how toughness is achieved. democrats are spineless. |
. . . . contd from post 60 my point is, this healthcare bill is very insufficient. infact, i was even against the senate version. i wanted that version to fail. however, i realise that most reforms take place after they have started. get a bill first, then when the bad signs come, new laws will be made to improve on it. it continues to get improved until realk reform is achieved. i'm sure you heard about the supreme court decision that removed limitations to co-operate contribution to campaign. now we will soon have, as someone put it, the co-operate states of america(CSA) when those CEOs will start running the US. this yr, many people will die b/c they have no insurance, or some cancer spreads b/c somebody was waiting to get to medicare age, or someone is rejected b/c of some pre-existing condition. i want you and tayo d and toshmann to know this. . . . .the US spent over $1.4 trillion in iraq and afghanistan, plus blood of young soldiers and over 100,000 iraqi/afghan lives, people did not shout out too loudly except at inception in 2003. and when the govt plans to spend ~$1 trillion on the healthcare of its citizens, hell is let loose, it's called socialism, tyranny, communism, witch doctor etc. you think it is a grassroots movt? think again. i'm sad today, sad b/c the people do not know who they are dining with. the way it is today, Drs and Insurance companies will make huge money. . . but for a while. |
. . . . . . contd from post 59 civil rights? the first civil rights bill was during the reconstruction(1865-1877) it was imperfect. it was controversial. but somehow it came, then opponents fought it. they suppressed it with state rights, jim crow, segregation etc . . . finally in 1964/5 civil rights bill came again. how many yrs? 1865-1965=100yr to get civil rights. women rights can be traced to the early 1820s, group after group fought for the right of women. many women died in this struggle. in the early 1900s, a woman threw herself ''in protest'' into a horse race and became a matyr for women's rights . . later in ~1919 women got the right to vote, but the struggle continued until the 1960s when feminism gained ground. i can go on and on, immigration, desegregation, . . . most ''great reforms'' did not come with a single legislation. america is such a wonderful country that in almost any issue, there are powerful elements who dont want it to work. . . . . . . |
@jesoul et al you guys are going to wait for the next 100yrs for the kind of bill you want. and even at that, you will not get it. look at the history of legislation in the US. after fighting the british for their freedom, and many of them had slaves, but there were those who were opposed to slavery, they compromised, just to get a constitution. and after much debate, almost 90yrs later they went to war, then ended slavery. abe lincoln was very much against slavery but he was cautios about his anti slavery rhetoric. at his 1st inaugural, he promised that the slave states could keep their slaves but there would be no expansion of slavery into the new territories in the west. b4 the war, there have been hot debates about slavery and legislations to that effect including the 1)missouri compromise of 1820, 2)the compromise of 1850,3) the kansas-nebraska act 1854, etc all these were attempts by anti slavery elements in congress to stop it but they had to do these things bit by bit. even after the war broke up, it took 2 yrs b4 emancipation proclamation by lincoln, and the proclamation was byt executive order(not an act of congress) and it liberated slaves only in the south. it did not liberate the slaves in the border states of missouri, kentucky, maryland, west virginia or delaware. later, after the war, there was still a constitutional ammendment that eventually abolished slavery. 1865 december. from 1776, how many yrs? 89yrs battle with small small ''victories'' . . . . . . . |
he will succeed though . . . only i'm so mad at the democrats. ''obama and co'' . . they are weak . . weak . . weak . . . and perhaps, deluded too |

@jesoul, i believe you 100%, but that is the way washington works. go to history of american legislation, deals are made to get things done and no bill ever works out fine on day 1. many of the founding fathers, especially those from the north-east like john adams (ma) were very much against slavery, but they had to compromise that to secure a constitution that sanctioned slavery. just to get a country. after the civil war, amendments were made to the constituion banning slavery. but that era(reconstruction) was full of deals to get the south to go along, so they ''allowed'' stuff like jim crow, KKK, segregation etc just to get going. even during the civil rights era, deals were cut through, and though you may not agree, the movt of malcolm x (and not really MLK) was what helped push that era into success bc malcolm was a prolific speaker(forget obama, malcolm spoke without teleprompter, and he did better than obama is doing today) malcolm was already inciting the african americans and he was not interested in peace with the white man, he was already talking about a new nation of blacks alone, even rejected xtianity(called it white man's religion), rejected being called black(he first used the term afro-american) etc, so his movt secretly pushed the whites who didnt want 22 million angry (and armed)people in their country. so that is how it works my dear, get the bill first, with time, it gets ammended and then gets better. the first civil rights bill was in the late 1860s, after 100yrs they had to do another. anyway, what do i know, i'm just another bitter democrat. let me continue packing my stuff jare |
at least nigeria has succeeded in moving forward without a president. let ghana equal that record and we'll start talking ![]() |
@thamesmead this is the kind of thing i saw when i started this thread. now we see it clearly. kennedy's seat taken over by a republican. can u believe it? massachusettes. where was john kerry and obama during the campaign? what happened? now we beging to see why with 60 votes it still looked lik the republicans were in power. the democrats are spineless. all of them. except perhaps congressman grayson of florida.perhaps. now healthcare is dead. but that's not all, i just wonder how obama will govern now. bc these folks are going to fillibuster everything in the senate. everything. somehow i admire these republicans though. they never give up, they fight with their last drop of blood and dont care the consequencies of their actions. when they are in power, the rule with an iron hand. when out of power, they halt the ruling party. and they prevail almost all the time. but the democrats . . . . FOOLS. |
@tayo d and jesoul this is to notify you that a young man, black, thick lips, large nose, big head, wide ears, strong accent, student was admitted into the south kensington & chelsea mental health centre. he was brought in by a good samaritan, he was psychotic when he was brought and could only mumble words which we couldnt understand but our experts say he is saying something like . .''healthcare, the end, finish the end . . bla bla bla'' . . his psychosis has stabilised a bit, but he is still being monitored closely. he says his next of kin is tayo d jesoul nairaland. we couldnt understand it so we googled it all up and came up with this website, so try to reach him pls if u know him, his number is 123456789 . . thank you.____management |
JeSoul:O, Jesoul you are so naive . . . . . did you not realise what happened on tuesday? you were only following the elections? you should have followed the stock market instead. even before the polls closed, the health insurance companies had a super spike in stock. they have seen that the healthcare bill is dead for the next 50-100yrs. the money has already started to roll in. knowing that 44,000 americans die yearly b/c they dont have health insurance, dont you think u played a role therein, when some creation dies due to lack of insurance? not to make u feel guilty, Christ has already taken care of ur guilt/sins, but i thot u may show some concern. this sint about obama, or the democrats, or even the republicans. this is about some big guns in the insurance industry who have fought really hard, and won. they will continue to make money. it is a sad day for me. ![]() |

If the "black countries are DESIGNED to fail" hypothesis is to work, it should also apply to If we put half the effort we put into celebrating mediocrity, in our society, into implementing 1/10th of what we have and see in the west in Nigeria alone, nigeria would be lightyears ahead of where it is today. so i still say this is not true. China did exactly what you claim it did not do. Go to shanghai and you will see it is almost a COPY of some american cities. No, That is not what I am saying at all. I am saying the problem has NOTHING To do with the west but the fact that we have YET To even apply any solution out there, not even those from the west, in solving our many problems. Yet we have so quickly condemned them all, especially Western solutions. Try to name Just one SOLUTION out there we have not only mentioned a possible solution but have actually IMPLEMENTED to the letter and then realized it was not for us, Just ONE. This is a CHALLENGE TO YOU!i believe someone made these statements with regards to the issue at hand, i.e helping haitians . . lol . . ahaa, i forgot someone was posting videos of haitians eating clay, which was part of the relief effort i guess |
@paddy-lo if i'm not mistaken i had read somewhere in this thread where davidylan accepted that he may have been mistaken with the timing(even if not substance) of his argument. as for the person you were responding to, i guess heshe/it enjoys people attacking him/her/it. dont do him/her/it that honor. he/she/it forgot that some pages back he/she/it made a statement absolutely in conflict with the statement you are responding to. but we are educated people here with sound memory. so my best bet is to ignore that statement and the poster. |
Tayo-D:dear brethren, you guys know that I worship the God of Abraham,Isaac,Jacob & Pres-Elect . . if that is your God too, then we are on the same side religiously at least . . . anyway, about the elections, not sure if i care anymore. but i know God says in the Bible when the guy given one talent failed to use it, it will be taken from him and given to another. God gave the democrats 60 senate votes and house control as well as white house, the bomboclaats used three months to discuss olympia snowe, after which they did not get her vote in december. so i dont know what else to say. if the democrats struggle for masachusettes, the bluest state . . . na wa o |
david is so so soooooooooooooo wrong. @david you are making a very valid argument at the ''wrongeeeeest'' time |
