@pres_elect

You would also want to believe the 2 young men in crutches were mass-murderers, eh? It is very easy to console oneself over a wrong practice by seeking some form of justification for that action. That doesn't make it right in any way.
i cannot confirm that they were mass murderers. but, i cannot confirm that they were not mass murderers. this i can confirm, there were mass murderers in that city and if not for police presence the mass murderers would have continued murdering people in mass numbers, so police presence prevented the murder of perhaps 1000 extra nigerians in that city. appreciate that.

You are quite certain these rampant murders of Non-Hausas in the North will probably happen again without these young men murdered in cold blood. Therefore, the actions of the NPF is NOT justified under ANY circumstance and is appalling since these are supposed to be trained officers.
now that you seem to have an idea of the magnitude of the problems we have in nigeria, what solutions do you present? since 1953 over 50,000 nigerians have lost their lives at the hands of their fellow nigerians just because they are from a different ethnic group or religion and nothing has been done about it, for over 50yrs. . . think men . . this nonsense has to stop somehow . . yes, it must stop. if it means dropping a nuclear bomb to wipe out the whole country, fine. but it must stop. either we live in peace or we all die together.
and talking of training, what kind of training did ur govt give those officers? perhaps if the govt invested more money into police training and enlightenment, they would have been more efficient not just in controlling this mess but more importantly, preventing it. but someone used the budget money to buy himself a house in herffordshire and people praised him.
We as 'Non-Barbarians' have to petition and speak against the root cause of these riots even if it means using the murder of 'supposed murderers' as a tool for our insistence that the culture responsible for the incessant riots in the North be changed.
''petition'' and ''speak'' . . . hmmn, since 1953 . . . . i rest my case

i think this apology is the only good thing aond . . . (former AGF) has done since he came to ''power''. it takes a lot to humbly apologise publicy to a lady in nigeria. it is a good thing from him. now he has put burning coal in Dora's hand and she had better accept the apology graciously and move on.

i agree with you. they have to be stopped . . .somehow . . . but how? nobody has any solution now. . . . and yet these hoodlums have been killing people year in year out since 1953 and nothing happens. someone has to let them and thier cronies know that every action has consequences. period.

nobody has a solution to stop them and you want them to keep killing people while someone is trying to figure out how to stop them? no way. let the ''barbaric'' military stop the barbaric militants. period. . . until someone comes up with a civilised way of stopping these people.

PoliticsRe: How Long Will Jonathan Act? by preselect(m): 7:47pm On Feb 10, 2010
i beg to disagree. nigeria is not america. our democracy. . . . if u call this democracy . . is fragile. infact our existence as a nation, is fragile. we have fragments of the nation that would love to go away and form their own nation. we are in an age whereby people dont identify the president as their president but as dem-dem and if the president is fro one's ethnic group any attack on the president is an ethnic attack.

rotational presidentcy will give every unit in the country a sense of belonging and in our fragile nation that is very very vital. if igbos know that anyhow anyhow someday e go reach their turn, the agenda of massob would die slowly. same for niger-delta,mid-belt,yoruba etc yorubas first thought of seceession when abiola was denied.

dont tell me that we need the best to get to president bc u and i know that it doesnt happen and has never happened in nigeria and by the way who determines who is best candidate. it is a subjective assessment. i strongly believe that there is a capable hand for the president in every state in this country. if someone like bush can be president of the US there are people more intelligent than Bush or Clinton in every state in this country.

lets rotate it for peace at least for 100yrs when we will have a generation of nigerians who are better integrated and educated and democratised
PoliticsRe: Extra-judicial Murder Of Innocent Nigerians - Viewer Discretion! by preselect(m): 7:38pm On Feb 10, 2010
then when the almajiris see that the barbaric military is capable of shooting kids in public(not to talk of what they can do secretly) . .then they will think twice about obeying their masters or at least ask that their masters kids join them.

if the kids cant stop themselves from obeying their masters, or if they are brainwashed into death, then it remains with the rational northern musli.m elite to come to their aid . . whatever way it is, this regular norther slaughter of innocent civilians must stop. if it takes barbaric soldiers to stop it. . . . so be it. after all it took 4yrs and 600,000 deaths to end slavery. people cant continue living in fear in their own country bc of some fundamentalists

i'll rather we have a sound judicial system to take care of all these . . but we dont. . . while we are building a strong judicial system, let the military maintain some sort of order . . somehow . . so that somebody in maidugiri does not kill his neighbour in 2006 because of what was written in a newspaper that he didn read in 2005 in denmark.

i havent heard of boko haram murders in maidugiri for sometime . . . .

and you are cerebrally leprous for not understanding that every coin has 2 sides. there are thousands of civilians in that city who are alive today because the military stepped in to stop the carnage. violence breeds violence. i dont like what the military did but i refuse to join the frenzy to destroy the image of our military. period. without these guys boko haram would have risen from a movement to a revolution. at the cost of human heads.

there are two sides to a story, always know that. i agree that there should be arrest, trial and judgement but have u asked why these people were not tried in a court? have u investigated our juducial system in nigeria to find out why it cant handle this kind of situation?
have u asked why we have this kind of riots time and again for the past 50yrs?
have u met the families of people killed in these useless violence that destroys our nation?
did you try to find out why the military did this? they did it in jos, maidugiri,niger-delta there are vidoes all over the internet portraying nigerian military as a band of barbarians. but what we dont see are the real barbarians who wake up in the morning and attack their fellow citizens without excuse.

rotation is good for our politics in nigeria. it helps to keep the peace. i think jonathan should rule till next election and he should not contest. there should be another northerner with a southern president to fill up their own rotation. otherwise, without this rotation thing, things would go really badly in our polity

They are all compromised either by inducement or intimidation

However Sahara, 234Next, etc are stateless, locationless media organisation. Sarki Mukhtar and Joe Gadzama can not storm any of these digital media organisations to threaten them because they just sinply don't exist within the Nigerian boarders yet and to the Nigerian Government these news organisations are ghosts.

So when folks refuse to appreciate Sahara, just know that they do not appreciate the benefits of the technology available to us.

Do you know that the intrigues that happened today. If it was in the past, this news may die and Aondoakaa may return as AGF. But because the news within seconds had been shared by Nigerians on Twitter and Facebook while first broken by Sahara. The Government will damage its own credibility by not sticking to its initial policy or semblance of it after the first attempt.

When the Government wants to look credible who benefits? THE REST OF US. so folks get over this thought of Thisday and Punch being more reliable than Sahara.

Also take note the difference between News by Sahara and articles by political pundits like Okey Ndibe or Harun Mohamed.

perhaps we should see a video of the rioters killing innocent civilians too. . . .and dont forget that many of those rioters and al-majiris who do these killings are also under-aged. perhaps we should see a video of their victims being slaughtered like fowl.

after a terrible battle in which thousands of soldiers died withing a few hrs, former confederate general . . robert e lee said . . ''it is good that war is a terrible thing, lest we get fond of it''.
general sherman said who was notorious for virtually burning down atlanta and other big cities in the south during his campaign of ''total war on the south'' said that he needs to make war hell for the rebels so that they wont dream of fighting a war again

something has to happen to enter the minds of these looters so that they think twice before going on a killing rampage again . . .

since our judicial system is incapable of doing so, for now, what next? the military. it is barbaric, but it is all we got for now. some may say . . uhm, perhaps many of those killed are innocent. yes, perhaps. we dont know. but what we do know is that all those killed by the rioters are innocent. and this will happend time and again if nothing tries to stop it.

one thing i strongly believe is that nothing happens in a society unless the population in the society condones it. . . .it riots bring soldiers to a city and soldiers bring death indiscriminately to that city, i guess next time the citizens of that city will be wary of a riot and will oppose any element within its rank that may want to start a riot.

2002:anti miss world riots in kaduna. . . hundreds killed, no arrests, no trial, no conviction.
2004: jos again, jos would explode again in 2008,2009, and even 2010. . . (annual jos riots)
2008/9: boko haram came

the list is endless, i'm sure i left out a lot. ahaaa, bauchi riots of 1991, there are others too . . . not counting the senseless killings on our campuses

these riots have one thing in common . . . no arrests, no trials, no conviction. . . the killers live to kill another day. the judicial system in nigeria seemed ill equipped to take care of this mess and the mess keeps getting messier. what shall be done?

i dont want to come here and claim that i have the solutions, but i know something we all agree on. . . this has to stop . . .somehow

in the 1950s, the AG, a political party with a huge support base in the south-west wanted to hold a rally in the northern city of kano, a riot broke out out easterners, mainly igbos were slaughtered.

ok, lets start from independence

1966: anti ironsi's ''unity'' decree riots in the north. igbos and easterners slaughtered in many cities in the north including kaduna, katsina, kano etc
july 1966: pre civil war progrom, 30,000 igbos slaughtered allover the north
1980s: maitasaine riots in many parts of the north, gombe, yola etc. thousands of christians murdered in cold blood. Gen Idiagbon had to crush it militarily when shagari was overthrown. elements of maitasaine remained up till the late 80s
1991:reinhard bonnke came to preach in kano, anti-xtian riots broke out in kano, xtians and igbos attacked mercilessly.
1992:zagon kataf riots, kaduna exploded. northern muslims vs northern xtians. for the first time, someone was arrested, charged and later released.
1999:ife/modakeke, aguleri/umuleri, border communities in cross-river/akwa-ibom states, niger-delta uprising etc. thousands die. . . no arrests, no trials
2000: sharia riots. . . kaduna and retaliatory explosions in Aba and Onitsha
2001:Jos, a very peaceful city explodes with religious violence . . .

i have watched in horror, some clips of judicial murder by members of the nigerian military of ''innocent civilians'' in jos, maidugiri, niger-delta etc. these videos were horrible and it shows the extreme backwardness of our security system. our men in uniform look like barbaric elements who plunder and destroy like it were still in the dark ages.

however, we need to look at another side of this story. first of all, these military men were not manufactured from spain or germany. they are part and parcel of the nigerian people. they were born and bred in nigeria, grew in nigeria . . . they were trained in nigeria, by nigerians for nigeria. . . whatever we see in these people is simply a military version of the decay called nigeria.

we need to know some hard truths. nigeria, our country, is barbaric. this country has had a history of violence spanning more than half a century. people just rise up in the morning and for no reason puonce on their countrymen and kill. period. this has happened sooooo regularly that it is almost becoming a new normal.

a little history here may help . . . .
