Crime / POS Operator Arrested For Spending N280m Mistakenly Transferred To His Account by Prestar(m): 2:59pm On Apr 19, 2023
POS operator arrested for spending N280m mistakenly transferred to his account in Kwara

A Point of Sale (POS) operator, identified as Alfa Rafiu, has been arrested in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, for allegedly squandering the sum of N280 million mistakenly sent to his bank account.

According to Tribune, the suspect, a resident of the Akuji compound, Abayawo area in the Ilorin West local government area of the state, received the money in batches of several millions of Naira some weeks ago.

It was said that residents of the area, especially those close to the suspects, had expressed surprise at how Rafiu had suddenly become a big spender.

Sources in the area blamed the suspect for the trouble he had put himself into, saying, “Instead of him to have drawn the attention of the bank that mistakenly transferred the huge fund to his account, he went on a speeding spree.

“Rafiu bought houses and cars and sponsored people to the lesser Hajj. Although he was generous to several people in the community, some residents were surprised about his sudden wealth as a POS operator”.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kwara state command, Ajayi Okasanmi (SP), confirmed the incident and said that “his arrest was effected by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) from Alagbon-Close, Ikoyi, Lagos which makes it out of our jurisdiction.”

In a related development, the Lagos State Government has dragged one Uzuokwu Solomon, 18 years of age to court over offences relating to making false calls for emergency responder.

The offence is punishable under the Lagos State Fire service law and Command and control Centre law 2013.

Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, who disclosed this said the suspect had been arrested and scheduled to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction at Ogba Magistrate on Wednesday at about 9.00 am.

Adeseye explained that “the suspect called the emergency line of the Fire Service on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 17:35 hours from Harmony Estate, Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos and reported a fire emergency within the estate leading to the activation of emergency processes and eventual dispatch of the fire trucks from Lekki Phase II Fire service station.

“On arrival it was discovered that there was no fire incident in the estate and because of the frequency of such calls in the past, the estate security helped in the investigation which led to the arrest of the notorious false caller.”

Adeseye, expressed her delight in the arrest of the suspect while reiterating the stand of the state government on malicious false calls which is punishable under the Lagos State laws.

“The arrest and consequent arraignment will serve as deterrent for other misguided citizens who are in the habit of making false calls and misleading emergency responders,.

“It is instructive to inform the general public that false calls have astronomically increased in the last six months,”Adeseye stated.

Interestingly, in the same interview, the self-acclaimed Mummy of Lagos finally revealed the identity of his male lover.

He identified his “boyfriend” as Ade and disclosed that he said he is an elderly man who lives at Banana Island, Lagos.

He said; “He hasn’t put a ring yet na. So, he cannot restrict me to be with one old person. I’m seeing more people.. Money o, rich o, billionaire o.

“His name is Ade. That’s his real name. He’s not on social media. He is an old man. He doesn’t know if I talk about him on social media. We have so many Ade’s na.

Health / Man Undergoes Height Lengthening Surgery To Grow Taller(photos) by Prestar(m): 10:47am On Apr 13, 2023
A man, Moses Gibson, from Minneapolis, Minnesota in the United States, has undergone a leg surgery to add five inches to his height after struggling to talk to women for years due to self-doubt about his stature.

Gibson said he had been insecure about his height since he was 15 years old, after witnessing other boys his age go through growth spurts that he did not, Daily Mail reports on Wednesday.

He tried medications and even contacted a ‘spiritual healer’ online who claimed to be able to help him in a desperate attempt to grow taller.

Gibson eventually decided to have surgery to increase his height after all other options failed.

Speaking of his struggles with his height, he said, “I’ve struggled with my height. Even when I was in high school, I was always unhappy with my height.

“When I was like 15, I realised most of my peers were taller than me. It started getting to me gradually.”

He learned about a procedure that could lengthen his legs, and he began working extra hours to save up enough money for the surgery during college.

After working as a software engineer during the day and as an Uber driver at night for three years, he underwent surgery to add three inches to his height in 2016, but seven years later has had a second round and is using a height lengthening device.

Doctors broke Gibson’s tibia and fibula bones and inserted magnetic, limb-lengthening nails into them.

He must now use a height-lengthening device three times per day, pulling the cut bones apart one millimeter at a time.

Two dead as bus splits into two after colliding with trailer in another Lagos-Ibadan expressway horror accident

Two persons have reportedly lost their lives in a horrific auto crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The unfortunate incident happened when a commercial bus plying one-way rammed into a trailer.

The bus which was coming from Lagos inward Ogun State split into two after colliding with the trailer, killing two passengers on board.

According to the Punch, the accident occurred around 7pm. Bodies were also being loaded inside a truck.

When contacted, the Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander, Babatunde Farinloye, confirmed the incident and said, “two people died and 14 persons were injured.”

The driver of the fully loaded 18-seater bus with number plate AKD-11-XA was said to have avoided the traffic at Berger inward Ogun when he diverted to the one-way route.

He however tried to avoid the police officers on his way close to Kara Bridge when it collided with an oncoming truck.

The deceased victims have been evacuated by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, while the injured passengers were taken to the hospital.

In a similar development, no fewer than five persons were on Wednesday killed by a speeding truck, along the Epe/Ijebu-Ode expressway of Ogun State.

It was gathered that the crash involved an unmarked truck, a low-bed Benz belonging to a construction company, marked BWR 281XC and a motorbike.

The State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.

TRACE Spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, blamed the crash on “excessive speeding” on the part of the truck driver.

Relying on an eyewitness account, Akinbiyi said the multiple deaths in the accident were caused by excessive speed on the part of the empty Mack truck coming from Epe, which crossed the median to hit the truck moving inbound Epe while at the same time, crushed a commercial motorcycle moving inbound Epe, too.”

He said law enforcement agents have evacuated the remains of the victims to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode.

Joy as Owo Catholic church reopens ten months after terror attack (Photos)

Catholic faithful in Owo, Owo local government area of Ondo State and environs were full of joy when the St. Francis Catholic Church in the locality reopened for worshippers 10 months after it was attacked by terrorists.

Recall that on June 5, 2022, heavily armed terrorists attacked the church with explosives killing over 40 persons and injuring 70 others.

During the attack, the assailants disguised themselves as worshippers, maiming both old and young worshippers.

But ten months after the incident, worshippers filled the building to celebrate the 2023 Easter.

There was tight security as police, military operatives, hunters and the security arm of the church code named Men of Order and Discipline (MOD) were drafted to strategic places to secure the locality

Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Revd Father Jude Arogundade presided over the reopening of the church as part of activities to mark Easter Sunday.

The church was repainted and fitted with modern furniture with many worshippers in attendance.

Bishop Arogundade congratulated the Catholic faithful for being alive to witness the reopening of the church.

Arogundade urged them to use the occasion to pray for the souls of the dead ones as well ad commiserated with their families.

He said the June 5th attack would go down in history of Yorubaland as the worst that could happen to the church.

The Ondo Bishop insisted that the attack could never intimidate the church and its members.

He urged the congregation to use the resurrection of Jesus Christ in relation to the terror attack to renew their faith in God.

Bishop Arogundade also faulted government at all levels for failing to secure lives and property.

He said: “We have to call ourselves back to the greater understanding of what is happening in our society today. I have never seen a nation so comfortable watching the killings of its citizens on daily basis in hundreds and nothing has been done for the past 15years.

JUST IN: JAMB fixes new dates for 2023 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new date for the commencement of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).

The board disclosed this in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin in Abuja on Sunday, April 9, 2023.

Benjamin said the UTME which was earlier scheduled to commence on April 29, would now start on April 25, 2023.

He also said the board would hold its rescheduled mock-UTME on April 18, 2023.

” It would be recalled that JAMB had earlier conducted its 2023 Mock-UTME on Thursday, March 30 in 725 centres across the country

” However, the exercise ran into some technical hitches in some centres, thereby denying some candidates the opportunity to sit for the examination.

” The board’s mock examination was designed for the purpose of testing its preparedness and that of its partners for the UTME as well as give prospective candidates the opportunity to have hands-on experience of the CBT test environment.

” It is, therefore, in order to give those candidates, who were unable to sit for the examination owing to no fault of theirs, the opportunity to take the examination that the mock examination had been rescheduled to hold on Tuesday, April 18,,” he said.

He said that candidates who were present and screened for the examination but could not sit for it had been rescheduled to retake the mock examination on April 18.

Benjamin, therefore, said the result of the candidates who successfully took the mock examination on March 30, had been released.

March 30, had been released.

He also said the board had brought forward the conduct of its 2023 UTME which was earlier scheduled to hold from Saturday, April 29, to Tuesday, April 25.

He said the adjustment in the date of the UTME was to accommodate some other major and critical national assignments.

” By so doing, the board hopes that no citizen will be denied the opportunity of exercising their civic responsibilities.

” It should be noted that the board does not have the liberty of shifting forward its examination as other public examinations are billed to commence their exercises in the early part of May 2023.

“Yet another factor is the need to accommodate those institutions with stable academic calendar to resume as scheduled,” he added.

He said the board would continue to partner with relevant agencies of government to ensure that its candidates got the best.

He said the board also solicited the understanding of all as it delivered on its critical mandate.
