Nigerian primay school teachers in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has embarked on an indefinite strike over the alleged failure by the Council’s Chairman to reach agreements with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

The strike which started yesterday, Monday, January 9, 2023, was confirmed by the Chairman of the Kuje branch, Mr Audu Lucky, in a statement released on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

According to him, teachers in Kuje were no longer ready to be taken for granted until their demands were met by the Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Mr Abdullahi Sabo.

He said: ”The union observed with dismay the non compliance by the Council Chairman to address the backlog of the Local Education Authority (LEA) teachers’ outstanding entitlements.”

Lucky added that the union had sent a letter to Sabo, with a reference number, NUT/169/5/138, dated 3/1/2023, while a letter of ultimatum dated 2/12/2022, was also sent to him.

He said: “In view of the above, the union leadership is calling on all LEA Primary schools teachers in Kuje Area council to proceed on an indefinite strike action with effect from Monday, 9th Jan, 2023, until further notice.

“LEA Kuje primary school teachers are hereby directed to comply with this directive, please.”

Lucky listed the demands to include: The payment of salaries to 2018 recruited teachers whose salaries were abruptly stopped by the council Chairman in September 2022.

”Submission of the agreed template of payment of LEA teacher’s arrears to the JAAC Secretariat and continuation of the payment to Concerned teachers.

”Payment of salary to 2022 reabsorbed teachers, who have been working through January to December 2022 without salary.”

According to Lucky, based on these demands, the branch and state organs of the union requested to meet with the Council Chairman but he refused to meet with them.

He affirmed that the union had directed all primary schools teachers in the area to stay away from their duty posts while parents were advised to keep their children and wards safe at home.

All efforts to get comments from Sabo proved abortive as he did not return various telephone calls made to his line, just as he did not reply to two SMS messages sent to him.

However, the Chairman of the FCT Universal Education Board, Dr Alhassan Sule said the board was doing everything humanly possible to amicably resolve the crisis.

Sule said; ”And I was telling the chairman that he should not allow only his local government to experience such an unfortunate situation.

”We are on top of the situation and we will soon convene a meeting between the union, the Area Council and the board with a view to finding plausible solutions to the problem.

”Education is very crucial as it is the foundation of every development and the FCT is not handling it with kid gloves.

”Education is the foundation of everything in life. Keeping these children at home is very dangerous.”

Nine END SARS protesters arrested and detained at Correctional Centre Ibadan since 2020 have regained their freedom on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

The 'Oyo9' whose names are:
Adeshina Muyiwa, Ikechuckwu Eze, Ariyo Sodiq, Ikenna Amaechi, Oyewole Olumide, Ariyo Afeez, Taoreed Abiodun, Adekunle Moruf, and Rasheed Tiamiyu, were charged for offences ranging from murder to stealing of police rifles, setting the police station ablaze, among others, in connection to the 2020 protest against the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit of the Nigeria Force.

The development comes barely 24 hours after the Oyo State Chief Judge ordered the release of 58 detainees who had spent long periods in the state prisons.

Releasing some inmates on Monday, the Oyo State Chief Judge, Justice Munga Abimbola, had declared that prolonged detention was a breach of people's constitutional right, reiterating that the stand of the law is that a “person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

The CJ made this declaration at the Agodi Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service, where he visited, as part of a three-day tour of prisons within the state.

Confirm the release of the nine persons, an activist and the Oyo State leader of the Take It Back Movement, an organisation that had been calling for the release of the Oyo nine, Solomon Emiola, said; “We are just returning from the prison, the nine of them have gone home with their families.”

The TIB members had yesterday protested the continued detention of the Oyo9 following the release of the 58 detainees. They argued that Oyo9 should have been part of those freed.

The state's Attorney General and Attorney General, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, could not be reached for comment because his known line did not go through.

The Nigerian News Agency also told correspondents he confirmed the release of the nine, noting that the release was part of decongestion of the prisons implemented by the chief justice of the state Supreme Court.

A Nigerian businesswoman, Angela Job Emodiae has claimed she made sales of about N1 billion in 2022 selling local spiced groundnut cake called Kuli Kuli.

Emodiae who is based in Jos, Plateau state with the business name: Anjees Food, also said she is targeting more than N2 billion in 2023

The revelation which has got internet users talking was made known through her Facebook page on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

She said her main clients are Nigerians who live abroad who order the product online and she sends it to them via freight services.

Emodiae said she has not begun exporting the product yet but just makes sales on social media, especially Facebook.

According to receipts and WhatsApp chats posted on her page, Emodiae showed how customers paid her for her services.

In one of the chats, she said her biggest clients are Nigerians living abroad. In one instance, the self-styled owner of Anjees Foods showed about N1 million credited to her account which she claims came from a satisfied customer.

She said she supplies the products to wealthy clients who buy in dozens, adding that she has a lot of staff who make her work easy and helps her distribute the product to clients.

The Jos Plateau Stae resident said she also sells Peanut burgers alongside her Kuli Kuli business.

But Internet users have faulted Emodiae’s claims saying that such claims are spurious and unrealistic in today’s Nigeria and economy.

Adichie Chuks said; “If Nigerians can believe that Tinubu APC can deliver them from Buhari APC, there’s NOTHING they cannot believe. “Even if she tells Nigerians that she made N1 trillion naira in sales in 1 month, there are millions of Nigerians that will defend her with their blood.” They called her claims a publicity stunt and attention-seeking.”

Hamidu Yakubu wrote; “When I recaptured my conscience I quickly notice that Nigeria’s problems is not only on leadership …. If Nigerians can change leaders one hundred times nothing can change unless we (followers) change our attitudes therefore Nigeria’s problems are not only on leaders but followers.”

However, on his part, Jenije Oghenegweke Ib said; “God can make you rich with anything he just say be and it will.”

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have abducted an unspecified number of passengers from a train station in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed the incident in a statement, said several persons were injured during the unfortunate attack.

DAILY POST gathered that the victims were waiting to board a train to Warri in Delta State when the assailants invaded the station shooting sporadically.

As of the time of filing this report, it was still unclear if anyone was killed in the incident.

This is coming barely a year after terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents attacked an Abuja-Kaduna-bound train, abducting several passengers.

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to reform and train internet fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo Boys, to become tech experts.

The former Lagos state governor made the promise on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in Benin at the party’s presidential campaign that was held in the University of Benin (UNIBEN) sports complex.

According to the presidential hopeful, his coming into the presidential race is to create happiness and prosperity for Nigerians.

Tinubu said: “We will create jobs, we will turn this state into an energy state, we will turn the so-called Yahoo Boys into experts at the manufacturing of chips.

“If you want prosperity, elect me, you want skill to become rich, elect me. If you say go and retire now, you retire knowledge diamonds, and skills.

“We can defeat poverty, we can break the shackle of poverty, shackle of ignorance, shackle of homelessness. We will do it together.

“We have the knowledge, we have the brain, trust me. I am an expert in finding the way where there is no way. That is the power of thinking and doing.”

Commenting on the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Tinubu said “one who does not know the road cannot show the road.”

He further described the endorsement as poisonous for the country.

Tinubu also disclosed that he would demand for reparation of collected revenue from stolen artifacts, and promised to provide funds for the proposed royal museum in Benin if elected president.

Earlier, the State Chairman of the party, Davis Imuse, said the state is prepared to ensure Asiwaju’s victory at the poll, come 2023.

Also speaking former national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, noted that Tinubu has done so much to promote multi-party democracy in Nigeria, noting that he (Asiwaju) believes in the unity of the country.

In his remark, Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, described Edo people as very committed, even as he added that the 19 northern states committed to electing Tinubu.

Late Pele's mother Dona Celeste Arantes, is 100 years old and still alive.

Pelé's mother is 100 years old and lives far from the spotlight in Santos and does not usually appear publicly
Celeste Arantes do Nascimento, celebrated her 100 birthday on November 20th 2022, the date of the opening of the World Cup in Qatar and the late soccer icon posted the message below on his officiicial Instagram page to celebrate her birthday

Today, we celebrate 100 years of Dona Celeste's life. Since I was a little girl, she taught me the value of love and peace. I have more than a hundred reasons to be grateful for being her son. I share these photos with you, with a lot of emotion for celebrating this day. Thank you for every day by your side, mom ", he wrote in a post on Instagram.

Pele was born on October 23rd 1940 in Tres Coracoes, Brazil. He was born to Dondinho and Dona Celeste Arantes. He was born as Edson Arantes do Nascimento. He has two younger siblings. Pele often skipped school to play soccer at the age 6. He left school for good in fourth grade when he got expelled when the schoolmaster saw him playing soccer outside during the school day
.
His father, Dondinho was born João Ramos do Nascimento on October 2, 1917, in Campos Gerais, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil and was also a Brazilian footballer who played as a center-forward.

May his soul rest in peace ️️️

Regarded by most as the greatest footballer of all time, Pele’s legacy inspired the world long before the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo became household icons. The Straits Times’ Ervin Ang compiles 10 facts about the Brazilian legend who died on Thursday at the age of 82 after battling colon cancer.

1. He was named after inventor Thomas Edison

His real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, named after light-bulb inventor Thomas Edison following the introduction of electricity to his hometown when he was born.

Although he is famously known as Pele now, he did not like his nickname. In a Guardian article in 2006, Pele wrote: “I thought Pele sounded horrible. It was a rubbish name. Edson sounded so much more serious and important.
He was given the nickname Pele as a kid, after he mispronounced the name of one of his father’s teammates – Vasco de Sao Lourenco, a goalkeeper affectionately known as “Bile”.

2. He has unofficially scored 1,283 professional goals

Pele’s goal tally is till this day a controversial topic. While the Prolific Scorers Data claim he has scored only 778 goals, a tally only surpassed by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele holds the Guinness World Record for most career goals scored in football, at 1,279.

The dispute comes from the numerous friendly matches Pele played on tour with Santos, which fell in a grey area.

Pele himself chimed in on the controversy in 2015, by declaring the actual tally was 1,283.

3. He led Brazil to their first World Cup win

In 1958, Pele scored six goals in four games to lead Brazil to their maiden World Cup victory. He also became the inaugural and youngest-ever winner of the Fifa Young Player Award at the tournament at the age of 17.

He remains till this day the only footballer to win the World Cup three times. Interestingly, Pele had to pause his career after his World Cup heroics and serve in the military for six months.

4. He grew up in poverty

At the age of 6, Pele was shining shoes and selling roasted peanuts outside movie theatres. He honed his dribbling technique and ball control with a sock stuffed with rags as his family could not afford a football.
He also played barefoot and famously formed a team called “The Shoeless Ones”. Barefooted games in Brazil played in vacant lots, known as “pelada”, are believed to be named after Pele.

5. His first professional contract paid him only US$10 a month

When he signed his first professional contract with Santos in 1956, Pele was given just US$10 a month as a 15-year-old. He used his pay to purchase a gas stove for his family.

Nineteen years later, he signed a record-breaking three-year US$7 million contract with American outfit New York Cosmos which made him the highest-paid team athlete in the world at that time. Pele had to pay about US$2 million from the contract in taxes to the United States, but gladly obliged.

6. His appearance caused a ceasefire in a civil war in 1967

So internationally acclaimed was he that Pele temporarily stopped a civil war in Nigeria in 1967. A 48-hour ceasefire was declared to allow Federal and Rebel troops to watch him play when he visited.

When Pele played for the New York Cosmos, the club had to prepare a shirt for each player on the opposing team for every match due to overwhelming demand.

Gordon Bradley, one of the Cosmos’ coaches at the time, said: “Pele was the main attraction. Sometimes we had to take 25 or 30 shirts with us to a match – otherwise, we’d never have got out of the stadium alive.”

7. He once served as Brazil’s Minister for Sport

In 1995, Brazil’s president Fernando Henrique Cardoso appointed Pele as Extraordinary Minister for Sport. During his three-year stint, Pele implemented the “Pele Law” which modernised the country’s sport industry.

The bill mandated all professional local sports clubs to pay tax within two years and liberated teenage athletes from contracts signed with their clubs at a young age.

8. He did his part for charity

He was appointed as the United Nation’s goodwill ambassador in 1994 and helped to protect the environment and fight corruption in Brazil.

Pele started his charity foundation, Roots of Fight, in 2018 which aims to benefit organisations around the world and their dedicated efforts to empower children, specifically around poverty alleviation and access to education.

9. He never won the Ballon D’Or

Despite his gargantuan achievements, Pele never won the famed world’s best player award, the Ballon d’Or, during his playing days as prior to 1995 the accolade was reserved for only European players.

He was subsequently awarded the honorary Ballon d’Or award by Fifa in 2014.

10. Nov 19 is Pele Day in Brazil

After he scored what was reportedly his 1,000th career goal on Nov 19, 1969 playing for Santos against rivals Vasco da Gama, the Maracana stadium erupted. Play was reportedly halted for half an hour as fans ran onto the pitch to hold him aloft.

Nov 19 is now celebrated in Brazil as Pele Day.

Tesla lost nearly half of its market value, and Musk’s net worth has dropped by about $70 billion since he bid for Twitter in April.

According to MARCA, Cristiano Ronaldo will play for Al-Nassr from January 1

The former Sporting CP, Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United forward is currently a free agent after coming to an agreement with the latter in order to terminate his deal. An explosive interview with Piers Morgan, where Ronaldo had some scathing criticism with the club, led to an end of the relationship at Old Trafford.

Rumours had been abound that Cristiano Ronaldo may be forced look elsewhere other than Europe for his next deal. According to Marca, the Portugal star will remain in the Middle East after the World Cup.

His contract, as per previous reports will be worth €200m per year and will last for two-and-a-half years, making the total deal worth half a billion euros. Ronaldo will be 40 when that deal ends.

It marks a changing of the guard in terms of European football. Ronaldo has dominated the top of the game for nearly two decades.

The contract that unites the Portuguese footballer with the Saudi team will last two and a half seasons, as announced last week

The forward ended his relationship with Manchester United two days before starting his participation in the World Cup in Qatar, being able to negotiate with any team, with Al-Nassr being the one that showed the most interest from the beginning.

The contract, in addition to the large token (just under one hundred million euros) is surrounded by economic incentives via advertising, which will place the Portuguese as the highest paid athlete in the world. The total number of CR7's link with Al-Nassr will be close to 200 million euros per season.

Messi, Neymar at PSG are the heads of the football poster, but their 75 and 70 million that they earn per season are far from what Cristiano Ronaldo will receive in Saudi Arabia. Even reviewing the list of the best paid in the United States, all of them remain a long way from the money promised to the Portuguese

Cristiano Ronaldo is going to find a team that seeks to recover the lost dominance in its competition, far from the first world level. The step back that he takes in sports is evident, but little by little his football is placing him at another competitive level. He is even receiving criticism in Portugal for his performance during the World Cup, something unthinkable months ago.

At Al-Nassr he will meet the Frenchman Rudi García as coach and he will have the Cantabrian Álvaro González as a teammate. The center-back came to Saudi football last summer after finishing his stage in France. The presence of Ospina also stands out. The Colombian goalkeeper ended his contract with Napoli and decided to accept the Saudi proposal. Real Madrid had him in orbit as long as Lunin had abandoned the white discipline, something that did not happen.
