APPEAL FOR THE RELEASE OF MR. SEGUN ONIBIYO

It came to light over the weekend, that Mr Segun Onibiyo, Kaduna based online personality and activist, was arrested by men of the Kaduna State Police Command, allegedly over his Facebook posts considered too critical of the Buhari administration.

It was alleged that the Governor of Kaduna State, Governor Nasir El-Rufai, may have been instrumental to his arrest and subsequent detention, even when this has not been proved at all.

Many accounts abound as to the whereabouts of Mr Segun Onibiyo, as to whether he is in police or prison custody, without a court order.

Whereas I do not subscribe to statements and posts that tend to disparage the leadership in any way, our Constitution in its section 39 has guaranteed to every citizen the inalienable freedom of expression and the press. Democracy thrives on free speech, where the right to receive and disseminate information should not be negotiable in any way at all.

However, where the exercise of the freedom of speech may have resulted into the infringement of any known law or a violation of the right of other citizens, the appropriate thing is to follow the due process of law, in dealing with such cases.

Under and by virtue of section 35 of the 1999 Constitution, a citizen of Nigeria should not be in custody beyond 24 hours, without being charged to court for any offense that may be alleged against him. Mr Onibiyo was said to have been arrested on November 23, 2018, in Kaduna and his fate and present location are said to be unknown.

I therefore appeal to the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State and Governor Nasir El-Rufai, to direct the immediate release of Mr Onibiyo or ensure that he is arraigned before a competent court of law, for whatever offense that may have been alleged against him.

As we approach the 2019 general elections, it is necessary for our leaders to eschew some level of tolerance and for citizens to exercise restraint in the publication of tendentious and reckless statements, that may heat up the polity and be exploited for other purposes.

Its sad that it is happening but still we need to be aware of some facts... there is freedom of exoression but doesnt mean freedom of expression can just be expressed. The government has actually tolerated hate speech from opposition and even from the citizens. We need to know where to stop. While i am condemning the fact that he should not be unlawfully detained, it dossnt stop the fact that he may be used as a scape goat to others on this so called freedom of speech. Can u write a hate speech about the president of USA and u think it u have a freedom of speech. We are lucky that things are not properly subjected to scrutinity. The members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, have staged a heavy protest in Umuahia, Abia State capital today.

According to Igbere TV correspondent covering the event, the IPOB members appeared on a Jewish attire with Insignia on Biafra and stormed major streets in Umuahia.

Some of the Insignias read that the News were in existence IN Nigeria even before the Almagamation in 1914.

Recall that their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is currently in Israel and claimed that President Muhammad Buhari is a Jubril from Sudan but the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed yesterday denied the report that President Muhammad Buhari is Cloned.

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has revealed why he was absent at the Peace Accord Signing earlier today in Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari alongside a few other presidential candidates signed a peace accord for the 2019 general elections.

The National Peace Committee, which organised the event, had said that an invitation was sent to all 73 presidential candidates contesting the 2019 elections.

Spokesman for Atiku, Paul Ibe, told PoliticsNGR that his principal was not invited.

Donald Duke of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kingsley Moghalu of Young Progressives Party (YPP), Oby Ezekwesili of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) and Omoyele Sowore of Action Alliance, were among the presidential candidates absent.

The Peace Accord requires the Presidential Candidates to do as follows;

To run issue-based campaigns at national, state and local government levels. In, this, we pledge to refrain from campaigns that will involve religious incitements, ethnic or tribal profiling, both by ourselves and by all agents in our names.

To refrain from making or causing to make in our names and that of our party, any public statements, pronouncements, declarations or speeches that have the capacity to incite any form of violence, before, during and after the elections.

To commit ourselves and political parties to the monitoring of the adherence to this Accord by a National Peace Committee made up of respected statesmen and women, traditional and religious leaders.

To support all institutions of government including INEC and the security agencies to act and be seen to act with impartially.
To forcefully and publicly speak out against provocative utterances a d oppose all acts of electoral violence whether perpetuated by our supporters and/or opponents.

I’m gonna be brief as possible...so I met this girl 6 months ago online and we fell inlove after getting closer to each other then we started dating. We stay far from each other she stays at ikorodu while I stay at Abulegba so we don’t get to see often she was suppose to come visit me on sat 8th of this month considering that we’ve not seen in a month due to her busy schedule according to her, but she gave me an excuse of her going to her friend’s birthday party she can’t afford to miss as a understanding guy I said “no problem even tho I’ll miss you but I got no choice” so throughout that Saturday I heard from her only at night asking her how she was she told me she was weak so I told her to get some rest. The next day which was Sunday we spoke after church service on phone briefly and then to my surprise, she started uploading video of her in a concert with Nigerian top artists performing I was shocked I asked her if she went to a concert the previous night she said yes then I asked why she didn’t tell me even though we have spoken after then. She said she’s sorry then I told her “ok”

She started nagging and asking me why I was giving her the attitudes by simply saying “ok” she said her friend took her to the concert around 12am(my people is that possible her girlfriend took her to concert on the island by 12am no be say car Dey oo) I said ok even if that was the case why didn’t you tell me, she said she forgot!!! Like wtf? You forgot? I mean we’re supposed to even see each other I don’t have problem with her going out but she didn’t accord me any respect now I’m thinking of quitting the relationship and the worst part is she’s claiming rights and not apologizing and this is someone that always claim to love me.
