Politics / Re: Lagos Rejects Hijab In Public Schools by probsolver: 6:44pm On May 15, 2013
The attention of the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit has been drawn to the purported ban on the use of Hijab in Lagos State public Schools by the state government.

The State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye, was widely quoted in the media claiming that the decision to ban the use of hijab was a consensus reached at a 'stakeholders' meeting chaired by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture Mr Oyinlomo Danmole.

We want to state unequivocally that the claim of Mrs Oladunjoye was an absolute lie and an attempt to obtruct the course of justice.

The commissioner claimed in her statement to the media that the MSSN representatives were at the so called stakeholders' meeting where the decision to ban the hijab was taken. This is ridiculous. How can we be demanding that the right of Muslims to use hijab in schools be given them and at the same time we will consent to a 'consensus' that is anti-thetical to our demand? We were never invited for any meeting at any point in time!

Let us state here that the state government had reneged on its agreement to call us for dialogue since our mass protest of Februarry 28, 2013 to the Governor's Office in Alausa. The state government did not only reneged on all agreements but also ensured through delay tactics that the case is swept under the carpet.

The pronouncement by the commissioner is an after thought and a flagrant disrespect for the rule of law. We have already served the government court notice on the issue and Justice Oyewole of the State High Court had fixed May 27, 2013 for hearing of our suit. So, we wonder why the commissioner, who we believe, knows the position of the law, would come out to make such irresponsible pronouncement. Her action makes us to question her professional integrity as a lawyer!

We therefore advised governor Babatunde Fashola to caution this woman before she destroyed the integrity left in the government.
Such personalities like Mrs Oladunjoye and her co-travellers are not fit for public positionand should henceforth be removed from office.

As we have stated in our previous positions, we will employ all legal and peaceful means to ensure our rights are not denied us. The constitution of Nigeria recognises the right to use hijab in schools and nobody can take it away from us.

We will not relent!

Thanks.

Sulaimon Alamutu

The Lagos State House of assembly, on Monday, set up a four-man ad-hoc committee to investigate the alleged victimisation of Aisha Alabi, a JSS 1 student of Kadara Junior Grammar School, Ebute-Metta by her principal, Mrs E.C Ukpaka, over hijab.

Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji announced the setting up of the committee after the house discussed the petition forwarded on the issue by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit during plenary.

It would be recalled that the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit had raised the alarm over the issue and also staged a peaceful protest to Governor Babatunde Fashola’s office in Alausa on Thursday February, 28, 2013.

During the debate, the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Dr. Abdurrazaq amongst other Members of the House, however, pleaded caution over the issue saying that both sides of the story should be heard.

‘We have lived harmoniously for so many years, despite our religious differences, let’s not make judgement before investigating,’ Balogun said.

However, Speaker, Ikuforiji said that nobody should discriminate against anybody on the basis of religion, saying that it’s a matter that cannot be tolerated in Lagos State.

The ad-hoc Committee, which comprises Hon. Abdurrazaq Balogun, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, Hon. Alawiye-King and Hon. Rufai Adeyemi has one week to report back to the house.

daviesore: probesolver, your comment lacks reasoning. she intended 6 strokes but when she did not stay that makes it up to 43. what is the sense in your fact you claimed to have got.

That was what d principal was reported to said when interviewed. So get me right am not backing her HATRED act.

Dudugirl01: My aunty is an aSSiStant head teacher in lagoS State, and a union member at that, from what She told me,in that particular school, all religious apparelS are banned in that particular school, be it Christian,Islamic or trado, according to my aunt, the said principal is an old woman and just caned the girl twice! I wonder why this is being blown out of proportion, if it were a christian that was beaten, I bet this wouldn't have been newS oo! And beSides, I'm Sure none of our religions preaches diSobedience tO higher authority, but if indeed she was flogged 43 times which I very much doubt,diSciplinary actions should be taken against her

Its a lie some of the students of the school confirmed it and even when the WOMAN and d girl were interviewed by tutor general she said she intend given her just six cane but wheb she didn't stay to have it gently that was what make it to be up 43. Get ur fact right either u or ur aunt som1 s lying.

This issue will be a fight to finish. I trust MSSN lagos area unit just wait and see. Anybody that knows Mrs upaka or apaka anytin she call herself shd tell her to be ready to face wrath of Allah unless she seek forgiveness publicly and from the little poor aisha. This is just too much.

Bomb Explosion In Lagos Kills One Person, Injures Policeman-PM News, Lagos

Posted: February 18, 2013 - 14:39

A middle aged businessman, Oladele Pius, was this morning killed when a bomb planted under FESTAC/Mile 2 link bridge, Lagos, few metres away from his office, exploded.

Witnesses told P.M.NEWS the sand dealer was passing by when the bomb exploded. He died on the spot. But it could not be ascertained whether he was actually the target of those who planted the bomb or not.

At the time of filing this report, the scene of the incident has been cordoned off by armed mobile police officers while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary.

Pius was survived by his two wives and five children. Sources at the scene of the incident also told P.M.NEWS that the legs of a policeman who visited the deceased were shattered as a result of the explosion
