Jollof rice - General
Moi-moi (mai-mai, moin-moin) also called Olele or Oole - Yoruba
Egusi soup (Obe Egusi)- Yoruba
Akara - Yoruba

Other shared foods and(or) snacks.
Booli - Yoruba
Guguru & Epa - Yoruba
Suya - Hausa
Dodo - Yoruba
Pepper soup - Dunno (Anyone who knows?)
Puffpuff/chinchin/Buns - General
Garri - Only God knows. Na thisone dey hard me pass.
Pekere (fried plantain chips) - Yoruba
Zobo - Hausa
Eko/Agidi - Yoruba and Igbo
Akamu/Ogi/Koko - Likely General.
Kunu - Hausa
Kulu-Kuli - Yoruba/Nupe/Hausa
Palm sap (wine) - Common drink in the south and center.

I don't know if these ones are general or regional. Or regional transitioning into General.
Kokoro - Yoruba
Abacha - Igbo
Donkwa - Hausa
Aadun - Yoruba
Alewa - Hausa
Baba dudu/Chesbin Mallam/Alagbon - Yoruba/Hausa
Ube - Likely Igbo/Eastern NNigeria.
Asun - Yoruba
Nkwobi - Igbo
Ukwa - Igbo

Apparently all Nigerian major groups have contributed substantially to our general cuisines.
Pepper soup’s most likely from either Igboland or the Niger Delta region (or both). I know we Igbos share ogbono with the Edo.

I wouldn’t be so hasty in ascribing dodo to you people either. The Yoruba name for fried plantains might be more popular than whatever other equivalents exist but I doubt you people were the first to fry plantain.

ogiri is purely igbo and has no yoruba connection, whatever alternative to ogiri that the yorubas have is strictly not related to ogiri
igbo and yoruba have some few words sounding similar but that doesn't have anything to do with same origin
There is such a thing as ogiri in Yoruba. At least say what you actually know.

Yorubas have Iru and not Ogiri, the both are very different in preparation and in use, nobody uses Kpomo and shaki in Igboland except those of us who grew in Lagos,Highest we call it is "Imeju anu" or Kanda Which is obviously from the Hausa word Ganda(or So,have forgotten what they call it),Dianyi are you sure you are Igbo?
Oyibo(Igbo) and Onyibo(Yoruba) are very different,if you understand Yoruba you would know this
Secondly only the word "Asoebi" is of Yoruba origin, the culture is shared only that Igbos didn't have a name for it,just like we don't have a native name for fried plantain it doesn't mean that the Yoruba invented it because Dodo is more popular
No. The Yoruba equivalent of okpei/dawadawa/locust bean seasoning is what is known as iru. Ogiri proper (as in castor oil ogiri/ogiri egusi) is used in certain parts of Yorubaland as it is in northern igboland and ogiri is the same name certain ‘Yorubas’ use for it as well. Don’t say what you don’t know. Ogede’s also shared as a word and it’s no wonder that it’s the upland Igbos who are more influenced by Igala use it.

People from upland ala Igbo don’t tend to use kanda more than kpomo just like we say obodo oyibo over ala bekee.

And what’s the difference in your eyes between oyibo (igbo) and oyinbo (Yorubaland)? Are you sure you’re saying what you actually know?

Very lame Nonsense you are bringing for reading one fabricated technical paper.

How many aged people in anambra know what kpomo means or shaki..

Stop Insulting Igbo nation with stupidity and nonsense.

These are Nonsense we keep fighting everyday that someone will wake up and write one trash because it sounds nice to his hearing.

Insult yourself and stop disgracing Ndigbo.

Igbos has absolutely nothing in common with Yorubas. Any such paper is a pure lie.
Kpomo, egusi, ogiri, akara, moi-moi oyibo, shaki, okoro and ejime for twins in upland igboland and much of Yorubaland and that’s a hard fact. By all means tell everyone how much you hate ndi Yoruba but the fact that we share foods and other cultural marks in common doesn’t mean you have to deny that because you don’t want to forge an affinity with the opposing side.

Not many aged Igbos from the likes of Imo and Abia state know the likes of kanda and bekee as kpomo and oyibo but northern and western Igbos definitely do. Southern Igbos don’t cook with ogiri or particularly acknowledge egusi as one of their staple ofes but Anambra and Enugu do just as people from certain parts of so-called Yorubaland do. Hate on Yoruba people all you like but you can’t deny the patent ancestral links between Yoruba, northern Igbo and Igala.

Tueh
So Yoruba and Igbo don’t share ogiri and egusi? Ndi Anambra and Enugu don’t share words with Yorubas (as in kpomo, shaki, oyibo) with Yorubas? Igbos didn’t birth akwa ocha culture from the Yoruba asoebi culture? That right? Yorubas and Igbos don’t eat some form of jollof rice?

Answer me that before you go off on another silly tangent.

Yorubas and Igbos has nothing like same ancestral. This is the greatest lie and another springing myth. Culturally Igbos has no single cultural similarities with Yorubas let alone your fictitious ancestral.

But igbo claiming egusi is sacrilege

Op am also offended is it only yorubas and igbos that this food are common toif you can name the full teibes in nigeria then dont name any biko
I didn’t say that but most of these foods tend to originate with either ndi Igbo or ndi Yoruba because we share the same root. Other tribes tend to have adapted these foods from one or the other.

There’s quite a few foods which more than one tribe eats as more or less indigenous food (Igbo and Yoruba shared foods in particular) but who’s willing to bet the ultimate origin of the following?

Jollof rice
Moi-moi (mai-mai, moin-moin)
Egusi soup
Akara

Puff-puff
Chin-chin
Nigerian buns
Fried rice

'Imu oso' is not a Jamaican patois expression. The post where you got this from misinterpreted the source material.

'Akara' is also not Igbo. It is Yoruba.

Other Igbo words in Jamaican Patois that could have been added are:

Attoo (chewing stick) from Igbo 'atu' and chinch/chink (bedbug) from Igbo 'chinchi.'
Any idea about the shared roots between Igbo and Yoruba as far as akara, egusi and moin-moin/mai-mai go RedboneSmith?

This is a photo showed the Eze Oraeri wearing the same Ejubejuailo medal the Attah of Igala wore and its an evidence that Oreri (Ora-eri) People of Anambra State Being Igala by Ancestry

In the picture, Eze Okonkwo, the Eze Nri Oreri is in the same traditional regalia like that of Attah Igala, with both wearing the Ejubejuailo medal (face-like object on their chest). Attah Igala began to wear it from 1515 during the Igala-Benin war. It was later replicated among the Eri (Eri, an Igala warrior from Idah) people, Oreri in this case to show their Igala root.

This Eze died in 1944 but till date, Eze Oreri dresses like Attah Igala. Oraeri people are also in Awka, and they are all Igala, because tribe is in the blood not by geographical locations. But if you have a contrary view, explain how Eze Oreri got the Ejubejuailo medal. Oraeri will be visited soon by me. One Igala blood forever.

Egunsi is a Yoruba word for it. Even Hausas eat egunsi.

Yoruba calls it Efo elegunsi
Igbo calls ofe egunsi
Hausa calls it Miyan gushi.

Everyone prepares it differently. You people do your own with little oil and pepper. Yoruba prepare their own with lots of oil and little more paper cos it will make them spit if pepper not added properly.

I don't know how hausas prepare theirs.

So it is not igbo soup.
Elegusi’s actually vegetable egusi soup.
