Mekaprime did and I second it. You won't really enjoy it if you didn't live in the era of Zoeys, Raiders, Hecters (hope I spelt it right) and Mega Games. That's when Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, King of Fighters was in vogue.
Pls what has these games got to do with the movie, my very first Brutality was with Noob Saibot. After Snes Mortal Kombat died.

I have had the movie Glass in my pc for a while now, and what kept me from watching it was the low to bad ratings you all gave it here. I decided to watch it this evening with an open mind and seriously y'all got the ratings wrong. The movie is really a good watch with hidden elements of how the world actually works. I give it a 7/10.
Word of Advice,
Watch the movie first, seek ratings later.

Critics are humans same like us...
There's nothing special about their reviews.
I've agreed and disagreed with them, just like I would to any other person.
Imagine them giving Bright a negative review.
Some months back I said Bright was one of my best recent Will Smith movies, but it was like had a poor taste in movies when i said this. I wonder if its all movie that has to look like poetry.

A Van Damme film...
Yes Sir,
pls watch the movie first before beating the movie up with a tree branch, I know Van Damme comes across as a stereotype but like i said, I was impressed.

Luckily I watched the movie before checking the rating on google, and I was not disappointed, the almighty IMD rated it 5.7/10

but ...

Google users rated it 86%

so which would you prefer, the opinion of one guy that writes and article for an popular website or the opinion of millions of users?

We Die Young - 8/10

When a ruthless and feared drug lord has a soft spot for some people its always going to be interesting. Drug dealers got nothing on latinos, those guys at the top of the food chain.

Van Damme earned is his stripes on this one, pulling up a performance like this without his voice is a rare feat, i must say i was impressed. Am having a feeling he took some pointers from Tom on how he uses his eyes and eyebrows to convey a message.

Pls dont play with fireworks were you have trigger happy people with guns - unless you want a bloodbath.

Every good story feels even greater through the lense of nostagia.

A publisher places a prohibitive price on rights to their "treasures"

Funding is too scant for a nollywood producer to "waste" on a "good" book/story

We will get there someday....
Hope i dont turn to skeleton while waiting for that day.

The Nigerian economy and mentality will have to improve if Nollywood is to grow. Why would anyone invest massive budgets to make a movie that 2/3rds of the population will download on pirate sites? Our cinema culture needs to improve before our movie industry can stand a chance.
I dont think the cinemas here are doing badly, I can still remember a packed hall when Wedding Party premiered in the cinemas here. I just feel the industry's regulatory body is sleeping on the bicycle.

You guys should cut Nollywood some slack na.

We are still at the subsistence level, as indeed all other areas of our National life.

Some actor, or a studio, or a national event might soon get the attention of the mega studios.

Collaborations will be forged in time.

Then and only then will true works of art start coming out of our Nolly.

Until then, appreciate the little efforts of these brave film makers who put their little resources, and indeed risk penury to produce what we judge so harshly today.

Give it time......
You are right,

But sorry I dont like Nollywood movies, i cant stand blatant copy and paste.

I cant stand the fact that i can summaries a movie in 5 mins of watching it.

I cant stand the look of trying to be something we are not.

I cant stand the way they we ignore our history,

Even as old as that movies was i can never forget it (am talking about Things Fall Apart) why cant we make more movies like this? this the kind of movie that hollywood will be begging to be a part of, cos this one is our history we are the only ones that know the story. And By Jupiter we have lots and lots of stories, a great movie start with good stories, we dont have good stories WE HAVE GREAT STORIES. Can you remember the stories your grandparents use to tell under the moonlight in the village? now try to recreate that.

I cant stand blatant fake acting.

Am sorry Hollywood has ruined me, I cant unsee the hollywood movies i have seen, sorry cant deal.

Sure, let's compare a 2007 Hollywood movie to a 1999 Nollywood movie. That's absolutely fair. You could have, at least, said Gladiator, instead of 300 to provide proper time range.
Now, that aside, what was the budget for both movies? Could the studio or actors afford proper trainers and dietitians? Were the actors given enough time to get in shape?
You see, that it's not just up to the actor's alone. I'm not changing the initial points you raised. I'm just saying those points are null.
Then Scot Adkins can play Bruce Wayne when given the time and resources? (i digress)

You are now going into detail what makes a nollywood flick, its a sum total why a top nollywood star wont star in hollywood movies. they dont give time, dietitians, or physical trainers in nollywood.

they will have to start their acting career all over again to reach this level.
this is my stand on this issue.

How many action movies does Nollywood make? Do you think Hollywood romance flicks and dramas land anybody in the hospital?
Has any script or character called for any drastic change in their physical attributes?
I don't know about you but I've seen some actors portray various accents from thick Yoruba accents to Ijaw accents.
Give them a role that requires them to study a new language and see if they won't learn it.
Method acting is very rare, even in Hollywood. Not everybody is Daniel Day Lewis or Christian Bale. So don't make it sound like there are a lot Hollywood method actors. Method acting is even more popular in Britain than the US.
Are you trying to say that in the whole of Nollywood, there's no one with a smidge of acting talent? This defies even the laws of probability.
You know what's better than fame and fortune? More fame and fortune. We're humans. We can never have enough. Even if they're as successful as you imply in Africa, a bigger pay cheque and audience is enough to motivate the willing.
You are changing the initial points I raised, I said top Nollywood stars, these set of people think they know it all, you cant teach these old dogs new tricks.

However I agree that we have upcoming actors that can/will match Hollywood, BUT THEY CAN NOT BE THE TOP NOLLYWOOD STARS unless they will have to unlearn what they think they know.

I disagree that we dont have movie scripts that require drastic transformations.

Compare these 2

300 - did you see how the Spartans looked?
now compare that to
Igodo (I dont know if you have seen this movie - its one of the few Nollywood movies liked because was more like a folk tale).

We are not just there yet, for us to get there we have to send people to Hollywood to learn the ropes.

If our students/workers that are average here can excel overseas, why can't our actors do the same? So you think if you tell a Nigerian that you'll be paying them $100,000 (#36,500,000) for a role, that they wouldn't put their all into that character? They'll milk anacondas if they have to. Talmabout getting in shape, when boys go to the gym just to impress girls with 6pac abs.

Was it the cast that went into the jungle of their own accord or the production team that took them there? Haven't Nollywood actors followed their producers and directors everywhere to shoot movies? Is it Hollywood stars that are not well taken care of? Even their drivers get mentioned in the movie credits?

So you know it's more or less the studio's fault and yet you're blaming the actors? And you say you have sense like this?

It's not irrelevant whether they're ready to put in the work. It's very relevant. It means they just need a well-funded and experienced studio and production team to bring out the best in them.
A diamond is basically a lump of rock that's been refined to that beautiful state you see it. Looks like you're the one who needs a better grasp of what he's talking about before popping off
Really?

Have you been to a Nollywood camp before?
Has any Nollywood actor/actress landed in the hospital because the hazard of playing a character?

Do they take the character to their personal lives that they even stop to responding to their own name?

Has they been any drastic transformation in their physical attributes?

Can they study a new language for the sake of their job?

Have they been a drastic change in accents in stereotypical character?

You think it's all about money?

You cant give what you don't have no matter the amount you are paid.

The most successful Nollywood stars have been acting like they do for more than a decade and they are famous here, so you think you can suddenly turn them into the Hollywood way of acting like a light switch.

So you think they will suddenly switch from a habit that has acquired them fame and fortune at the drop of the hat.

You talk about a studio that will bring out the best in them, so suddenly your brain started working. the studios here have already made them famous and rich, so what are you blabbing about?
Why should they switch to another studio that will risk their health, take so much time and energy from them?

Am sure you won't understand where am going with this.

Triple Frontier - 9/10

I rate it that high because of the character of these men, and like one the star cast said, these types of men are dying a breed.

They left everything for the family of one that was killed, how many men have these kind character that exist today, such men are a dying breed.

You dont see movies about how real men stay true to each other till the very end like this.

I agree with you.

My own concern is that the Nigerian government should invest in the entertainment industry.

There should be film schools to teach both acting and directing. We have multimillion naira industry that we export (our films are watched all over Africa) and yet the government does nothing to maximize it.
I just think it's greed,
my boss runs a football academy and I know how much he spends to feed the players daily.
In most developed countries its the individuals that make the difference not the government, that's why I say it's Greed on the part of the people that can make it happen.

The government is just a point of authority, it cant stop you from bringing innovation and chasing it to fruition.

The Hollywood it's self came into existence without the help of the Government, the biggest business brands in the world today came from individuals.

I read somewhere that during the great depression in the US the rich polled their resources together to help out. Could you say the same about Nigeria?

But ask your self what are the community building projects or talent hunts that our Billionaires in this country have been involved with?
I don't know how many Billionaires can boast of running a football academy or a talent hunt program like the guys in other developed countries.
But if it's to have petrol companies and other conglomerates in other countries, Nigerian Billionaires are up there.

if it's to pour millions into a ret@rded project like BB Naija, you will find sponsors rushing up and down like demented cows.
Half of that money can uncover real gems in a country with vast potential like Nigeria.

I still can't believe that most populous black nation on the planet could not even produce one (1) cast for Black Panther, oh OK, the Director is a racist - what do I know.

It's not the Government Bro.

And how do you know some of the best Nollywood stars aren't ready to put in the work? Why do y'all just love projecting your laziness on others?
You don't expect someone that is used to shooting and concluding movies within weeks, to have the same mentality with someone that takes months just to get his body into shape (we are talking without cameras here).
How many of your so called Nollywood stars are ready to put their health on the line for a character in a movie?

Do you know that the entire cast of the first Predator were in the jungle for months? Sometimes there were bugs in their food that they had to eat?
Compare that with your Nollywood that have camps for movies that the stars are well taken care of.

And how long do you think a movie production last in Nollywood?
do you know some productions can't afford to hire cameras for months for a proper shoot?

It's irrelevant weather they are ready to put in the work, according to them they are already working hard in Nollywood (that's if you listen to their interviews).

A rock can never be a diamond weather it's lazy or not.
You should get a full grasp of what you are talking about before you start popping off.

MOVIE FUN FACT
The Terminator

Arnold Schwarzenegger worked with guns every day for a month to prepare for the role. The first two weeks of filming he practiced weapons stripping and reassembly blindfolded until the motions were automatic, like a machine. He spent hours at the shooting range and practicing with different weapons without blinking or looking at them when reloading or cocking.
This is why you will never find even the best Nollywood stars near Hollywood, its all about growing into the character, not just acting the character.
Check out the sickening weight loss Christian Bale in becoming the character in The Machinist, only to double up for The Dark Knight.

The Terminator - Unforgettable.

Lolz I don't think so. I saw the movie on a 1080p resolution & to be frank, the movie deserved every single one of those awards it got, taking into special consideration:
-The year the movie was made.
-Other nominees in the various categories the movie won
.
The awards it won goes as thus:
-Best Achievement in Cinematography
-Best Achievement in Directing
-Best Achievement in Film Editing
-Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score
-Best Achievement in Sound Editing
-Best Achievement in Sound Mixing
-Best Achievement in Visual Effects
.
With a rating of 7.7 on IMDb, & 96% respectively on both Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic, i'd say it deserved all the accolades it got.
Yeah right,
Do you think the movie will have these nominations if there was no George Clooney and Sandra Bullock?

For a movie with 7 Oscars win, it was totally worth it. I must confess, this was more than just a movie, it was an experience in space for me, & seeing it on a 1080p resolution is one the best cinematic experience I've had in a while. Cinematography was breathtakingly beautiful, story was simple yet compelling, with lots of suspense that keeps one in constant stress while worrying for the main character. Directing was top notch,( Alfonso Cuarón as usual killed it, just like he did in Children Of Men ) Visual Effects were stunning. Acting was superb, amazing performances from Sandra Bullock and George Clooney....
Honestly, being an Astronaut & spending at least 6 months aboard the ISS is not an easy job, my respect sincerely goes to those guys. Highly recommended, if you've got a sucker for ultra realistic space flicks.
7 oscars? something must be wrong with the academy.
