I remember all the events that preceded May 29, 1999. There was excitement everywhere that at last the military was exiting the political stage in the annals of our history but today a lot of people will tell you that things are not in any way better, especially in these last few years!
The question is, Where were you and how old were you in 1999?
Is this the democracy you hoped for?

Recall we reported that Bala Elkana who alleged that police authorities have noted a connection between cultism and people that sport dreadlocks and draw tattoos on their bodies, condemned the killing of Kolade Johnson whose death has led to viral social media campaigns. The Lagos Police spokesperson who alleged that tattoo and dreadlock is strange to our culture, further disclosed that most of the cultists that have been arrested wear dreadlocks or have tattoos on them.
However Omotola Jalade who slammed the Lagos Police Spokesperson over the claims made, stated that he needs mental evaluation, retrained and re-educated. She wrote;

Secondly, she is not authorized to preach in the house of God because she is a woman. The Bible states that woman are to learn in silence while in the congregation and never to teach. So, for all these preachers to be showing her support when they ought to be shunning her, is enough to show they know nothing about the Bible and what it teaches. No wonder many of them have questionable character.

Tessyama1: From; Amagitesblog.com
Nollywood actor and comedian Williams Uchemba has already taken steps to help a 10-year-old plantain hawker, Joseph, who was spotted selling plantain at night, on the street in Lagos.
The actor posted on his Instagram page that he is searching for the boy, and under few hours someone found him.
Uche wrote;
"Can someone please help me get to this child or his parents..I need a number or something...please.. whoever just took this picture should help me go back there..he is not suppose to be on the street."
After he was found, Uche posted the above photo and wrote;
"I found him..his name is Joseph and I was just told he hasn’t eaten anything for 3 days well this is his last day on the street. Thanks @queen_stephaniejames and @unilagolodo for finding him."
Uche then have a video call with him and wrote;
"So I had a video chat with Joseph, he is 10 years old and his from akwa Ibom state. He told me that he is living with a woman that took him from his parents in the village and promised that she will send him to school in Lagos because his parents couldn’t afford to train him, but when he got to Lagos instead of school the lady put him on the street to sell things and bring money back to her. I have tried to talk with the lady to have a better understanding of the situation but she doesn’t want to talk instead she said we can take the boy.I have spoken with Joseph and he said he wants to go back home and go to school because his parents who he hasn’t seen or spoken to doesn’t know that he is hawking in Lagos , and yes he hasn’t eaten in 3 days.. Anyway I want to clean him up today and put him on the flight today to akwa Ibom with some people, know what the parents needs and put him on Scholarship with the help of God.He has a bright future( I can tell) and if not for anything kids his age are not suppose to be on the street but in school..he is one out of many and I can’t take all off the road alone so I urge you to help the ones you can when you see them.."
Uche then put Joseph in the next available flight to Akwa Ibom today to see his parents and then start school, which Uche has promised to sponsor.
Uche wrote;
"My boy Joseph just boarded his flight to awka Ibom now...if you are in akwa Ibom you can go get him from the airport cos my team might need help with directions to his place..they will be landing in about 1hr from now..let’s get them off the road one by one and give them a promising future.. put a smile on someone’s face #Godislove #seekfirsttheGodskingdom"
Kudos Uche!!!

[/left mhd5757: Hey nairalanders, what do you think? Is this normal? Marriage doesn't appeal to me at all same as having kids, I prefer having dogs even now i have 2 of them and as soon as I get a job and make enough money I plan on getting 3 more making them 5 in number. I know most people, the first thing they want to do as soon as they get a job is to get married and have kids but not me, I'm also not interested in having a girlfriend, though I used to have one back then when I was in the university but we were forced to leave each other being that she had to go back to her country and I had to come back to Nigeria. After that I got another girl here in Nigeria, but I had to leave her because she was too expensive and she was draining me financially. After that, I just lost interest in relationships and I decided to be single, I decided that even if I feel the need to lay with a woman I can just go to an ashawo hotel or get a steady woman who I can be calling any time I need company. I think this is the lifestyle that suits me especially in this harsh economy, its easier for me. If I get married and have kids imagine all the money I'm going to have to be spending, excess groceries, all kinds of bills, school fees and the list goes on. At least having a steady woman to call like maybe once a week can't be as expensive as getting married and supporting a wife. Also having dogs can't be as expensive as raising kids, with dogs all I need to do is to buy their feed, their grooming products and pay for their medical bills and probably training fees too but with kids and a wife imagine all the bills, the lists keep compiling and they never end. What is your take on this? What do you think? Hmmmmmmmm!!!

britzreus: Notorious Kidnapper, Pilot, Who Killed Catherine Okorie, Escapes From Police Custody In Ebonyi State
One of the suspects who allegedly kidnapped, killed and buried an elderly woman, Mrs Catherine Okorie in Ishiagu, Ivo local government area of Ebonyi state has allegedly escaped from police custody in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
Catherine hailed from Ishiagu and was kidnapped in her residence on January 18, 2017.
Recall, her abductors killed her four days later and buried her in a shallow grave located in a forest bordering Lokpanta in Umunneochi and Awgu council areas of Abia and Enugu States respectively, for reportedly recognizing one of them.
According to new telegraph, the suspect whose name was given by the police as Ogonna Alioka alias Pilot when he was paraded alongside other suspected criminals in August 8, 2017, allegedly escaped on the night of 22nd October 2017.
This was disclosed to reporters in Abakaliki by the son of the deceased, Mr Ikechukwu Okorie, in his residence in Abakaliki.
The visibly angry son said that although he was yet to be briefed officially by the police, the intelligence information available to him was that the suspect was no longer in the police cell.
“Do you know the one that is paining us?” he angrily queried. “We spent our money and other resources; we funded the expeditions and this thing happened on January 18 and she was killed on 22nd of the same January.
“By July 31, 2017, we caught the man that drove the vehicle to my compound the day they kidnapped my mother.
“God delivered him into our hand. My brother do you know what we are hearing? That Mr Ogonna Alioka that we know how much we spent for him to be caught since 31st July 2017 has disappeared from the cell they kept him. They said this man disappeared from the police cell last Sunday being 22nd October 2017.
“Where do they tell that kind of nonsense? And this is a man that has given a foundation-shaking confessional statement.
Our lawyers mounted pressure on the police to arraign this man in court since 31st July. This is October but they are yet to do that.
“They kept dig-dallying only for us to hear from the back door that he is no longer there. However they did it; whatever caused them to release the person that went, kidnapped and shot our mother dead and they would not arraign the person. However the person disappeared, I am sure that Ebonyi State Police Command is joking. It’s a joke of the century” he thundered.
He alleged that a prominent politician from Ishiagu community [names withheld] who he alleged had a hand in the fate of his mother has been making efforts to close up the matter.
When contacted on the telephone, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Titus Lamorde, referred our correspondent to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Odah.
However, all calls and text message to her were neither answered nor replied two hours later before this report was filed.

Romance › Re: How I Taught A Slay Queen A Lesson by Psalmwhyte(m): 1:40pm On Jul 24, 2017 |
newsynews: Wow!
I was in a bus on my way home when I spotted a really nice figure 8 lady strolling in the dark. I was close to my bus stop so I alighted quickly to meet the girl. Surprisingly, she was very polite and I enjoyed the little chat we had together. It was really dark that night, so I couldn't see her face clearly. I got her number and we fixed a date to meet by the pool side of an hotel in the neighborhood.
D-day came and I called her. Her phone was switched off. Towards 6pm, she flashed then I called her again. She apologized then asked if we could still meet that late to which I obliged. That was when she chipped in that her friend will accompany her.
What?
No shaking
I told her there was no problem about that. With the new development, I decided to tell my friend to accompany me too.
I got to the hotel with my friend and still had to wait for 45minutes before they showed up. Next was a call on my phone telling me that they are outside. On getting there, what I saw was made me weak. Her face was scary but the curves tho...
Her friend was like an old woman or a vulture. They were still doing shakara that they can't enter. Perhaps, they wanted me to beg them. I just turned and went inside. No one told them to follow me in.
To shorten that episode, I bought drinks and meat worth 3200. Immediately they finished their drinks, they got up and left. Maybe they thought we were going to tell then to follow us home.
Wow, smart!
The following Sunday, she agreed to come to my house. Sounded nice till she disappointed by ensuring her line was not reachable. She did that for 2 more Sundays then I had enough. What angered me is the fact that when it's 30minutes to the time she's suppose to come, she calls to remind me. Now when it's time, her phone becomes switched off. At first, I thought it was just coincidence till I noticed that she has been avoiding to give me her friends number cos my friend had been disturbing me for it. When asked how he would deal with the vulture, he said he would use pillow to cover her face or make her face the wall.
Well, I decided it would be best I pay her in her own coin. And all though the amount I spent was small, plus the fact that part of it went into I and my friend's belly, I still felt it would be best to teach her a nice lesson. If she's not taught a lesson, she might repeat the same trick on another humble fellow.
I called her on a weekday to tell her I was having my birthday the following day and that the celebration will be at Ikeja shoprite. I also told her I will be buying her some provisions at shoprite after the celebrations and that she should come with 2 friends of hers. I could almost feel the way she was smiling, giggling and praising me by calling me baby.. sweetheart.
D-day came and I called her that I'm already there with 2 friends of mine. She first doubted cos she couldn't hear any sound of bubbly activities. But when I handed the phone to my friend who knew about the plan, she believed thinking we were really at shoprite.
Few minutes later, she called to tell me they were at the car park in shoprite Ikeja. I told her to give me a minute that I will come meet them.
Since then, she has left my phone with over 30 missed calls.
The idea is to make her vomit the amount she thought she ate from me, no matter how little it was. She was smart at first by bringing her friend to come "chop him money". Now, that amount she chopped has been spent on transporting to shoprite with the hope of eating and going home with big yellow nylon bags. Oh, I forgot to add the embarrassment she and her friends will feel when they did not See Me.
I know some people might want to call me out saying "is it because of the small money you spent?"
Well, nothing you say will stop the joy I derived from teaching a slay queen a lesson.
See Me see missed calls. Plz OP how old are u?? Xiriously i suggest dat an age restriction be put in place 2 bar pple like d OP 4rm posting rubbish on nairaland....#Gosh!!! #Mr.seun & lalasticlala take note |

In a bid to further our education, we are thinking of persuing a Bsc. and HND respectively at the same time. For instance, i'm thinking of Bsc. in Economics or any other relevant social science courses and an HND in Business Administration.
The B.sc will be on a full time basis while the HND will be on part-time(i.e weekends). Our thoughts however is that whichever university we gain admission into through Direct-Entry, we'll also apply for a polytechnic in the same state.
I don't know if it has ever be done before. For those in the academia, we would like to hear your opinion if it is advisable to carryon or have a rethink.
Your thoughts are welcome. Thank you. Bro wat is all dis mad rush all about, Bsc & HND? Haba! Haba!! Wat do u need Bsc & HND for? I'm not tryin 2 discourage u but u hav 2 take ''One Step Per Time''. ...Vanity upon vanity all is vanity without GOD... |

Shalomdee: CHAPTER SEVEN continued
The crazy heat in Gwagwalada suddenly gave way to a frenzied cold harmattan in December. The cold was almost paralyzing. Inhabitants of Abuja had to clothe themselves in sweaters, jackets and every kind of clothing for cold. Everyone was bothered about this year’s harmattan, it was harsher than the others in the past, so unlike Abuja harmattan. The Okafors seemed to be the only ones in the neighbourhood who took the cold lightly. Lancelot had spent a great part of his life in Jos and was used to cooler weathers. Rahila and Jane were indigenes of Plateau state and could not be shaken by the ordinary cold in Gwagwalada. Rahila would smile and pass whenever a worker or colleague in the Hospital asked if she could not feel the cold.
Jane made preparations for her journey to Jos to spend the holiday with her aunt and son. She washed the entire drape in the house and replaced them with new silky ones that she and Rahila bought during Christmas shopping. She also fried chin-chin and stored it for Christmas, the chin-chin could stay for a long time so she decided to lessen Rahila’s work by frying it before she left. She adorned the house with the Christmas tree and decoration and made the list of everything Rahila would need for the food to serve during the holidays. Jane was sure Rahila would still find the cooking difficult despite all the recipes, but she did not disclose this to her and Rahila concealed her confusions and pretended to be capable of handling any cooking. She was sad Jane was leaving for two whole weeks, but her mum had demanded that Jane be released to spend the holiday with her son. If she had her way, Jane will not go anywhere.
Lancelot did his best to hide his own feeling. His wife would not like it if she got to know how badly he wanted Jane to stay. There was enough a wife could take and he understood he had limits in expressing fondness for her cousin. If she got to know the extent to which he cared for Jane, she would ask Jane to leave, but not before accusing both of them of having an affair. He wondered how much time he had till his cup would overflow. He was doing his best to manage his situation but things were becoming glaring; talking to somebody might not help, or maybe he was just afraid, people like him normally became afraid of talking to another person about what they were going through, they would suffer silently till they could no longer contain it alone.
Who could he talk to even if he wanted to? Joe would laugh him to scorn and make jest about him also living in the flesh, Bayo will be helpless and confused and will lack what to say in his usual way, his wife may leave him if he told her, his mother would take matters into her own hands and start running his life and his father, his father was the one person who might understand but unfortunately he was incapacitated at the moment. His pastor’s words came to him in a flash, when no one else can help you, only God can help you. He considered Pastor Tee’s words for a minute, he was sure God could help him, but he was not sure if God would help him with this one, after all, God had left him alone in the past when he was battling with this same problem. No amount of prayer then did anything to alleviate the problems, until Salem died.
He winced at the thought of Salem, he hated thinking of her. It brought only pain and sorrow once more to him, the kind of pain and sorrow that one knew could never go away. Brush it away, a voice said, you can overcome this and you will. But he had no more faith in the matter, he could trust God for any other issue, but when it came to this condition of his, he was all alone, or so he thought.
Jane scooped three spoons of milk into the tea and stirred it. She gave one look at Lancelot and grew afraid. His eyes were so distant, and this was not the first time she was noticing it that day. Tomorrow she was to leave; she imagined what would happen if she left him in that state, her fears heightened; what if the mental instability was coming back? What if she had been the one who has been helping hold on all this while? It was the most crazy thing she could imagine but it was too irresistible to debunk. For the entire months that she had been here, she had observed him closely and got to know they both shared some kind of connection that was unusual, it was hard to explain, somehow she felt he was relying on her for some kind of strength; she knew he loved her cousin as a husband would love his wife, but he did not have that special feeling he felt for her alone. Rahila would send her away for sure if she got to know this, and she would not blame her cousin if she did. What sort of woman could bear her husband loving her cousin in such a unique way?
She could not stay for the holiday certainly, Isaac needed to see her. Please Lancelot comport yourself together and be alright, this entanglement is bewildering. She pushed the tea to him after she had added honey.
“Your tea Sir.”
He looked down and managed a wry smile. Rahila came out of the kitchen just then with a plate of pancakes, thanks to Jane, she could now make her own pancakes just the way she wanted them. She sat down close to her husband and nudged his elbow playfully. Immediately, he dropped off his sad demeanour and nudged her as well, the two started playing and laughing.
Jane walked away to her room. She had some packing to do; she arranged all the new clothes Rahila had given her into the small travelling bag Lancelot had handed to her the day before. She was not going to travel with her big suitcase. All her old clothes were arranged in the suitcase, she would make sure her other cousins and her mother know she was not being maltreated, she had to come back. Next year March, JAMB forms will be on sale and she would not allow anything stop her from buying them. She counted her savings, it was twenty thousand naira. She would deposit fifteen thousand naira in her savings account and travel with five thousand. She was sure her cousin would give her money for transport and allowance. When she was through organizing her things, she laid down on the bed and closed her eyes. Leaving Rahila and Lancelot made her feel eerie. This was now her home, she was nervous suddenly. Isaac needs me, I just have to go.
