Nairaland GeneralRe: Drop Your Advice For Nairaland Here by psky: 1:15pm On Nov 13, 2013
People have been requesting for a chat app for a long time now. This is my suggestion as to how it could work.

You could create a chat section, but one which could only be completely viewed by you. To chat with a member one would have to visit the person's profile page and click on the invite button, just like you have to click on the follow button to follow a member. When a member is invited, he or she (mostly she grin ) would be notified at the top of the page, just like you are notified when you are followed.

If the member accepts the invitation, the initiator would be notified and clicking on a start chat button would automatically lead to the reply page( i.e. the page we are led to when we want to post comments), and from there the chatting could begin. One could also block someone from inviting him or her to chat.

Like I said earlier, you would be the only person allowed to view all the threads in the section, other members would be confined to the threads they are involved in. Having looked at the dairies and mod section, I really don't think this would be too difficult for you to achieve, and it could go a long way in satisfying the needs of nairalanders.

People wouldn't have to go all the way to their email accounts to chat privately, neither would they have to create email accounts specifically for nairaland or anything like that, cause we could all chat here, no need to bring it outside nairaland. I'm certain it would also increase traffic, and that would definitely be good news for you.

It's simply a suggestion though, but please consider it.

Dhurmynick: on the scale of 100% ..the nice boss makes less impact.. But the ones who aren't scared to do things that that has to be done makes mine.. cause it lets the employees knw that they can easily be replaced therefore they have no choice than to follow the rule diligently.
It's not about being nice man, don't you get? It's about having a balance. Not being tyrannical does not mean you are nice.

You could be assertive, be in control, have your decisions be final, but at the same time not be hostile or aggressive to those under you.

That should be the balance.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Dear Seun I Have Had It!!! by psky: 12:32pm On Nov 09, 2013
Dhurmynick: first time i see u type pidgin grin
they should be afraid of you, not the other way around.. You're in charge. that's what bosses do. you are the oga at the top.. you dont have to consult anybody before you do your stuff.. dem just dey proove stubbornness.
Now that I have gone past the funny side of your post, I think I'll have to do some criticizing.

Yes seun is the supreme boss but saying he should make mods scared of him is not helping matters at all. That's the same strategy some mods are using on us and we are definitely not happy with it.

Seun should not at all be aggressive or tyrannical with his mods but he should be assertive, that means he should not be feared but should be respected.
He should consult his mods when making decisions, seek advice and regularly have discussions with them on how to improve nairaland.

But the first step to take is appointing mods who are actually worthy of appointment, not because they have all the time in the world but because they are responsible and mature.

click2cbn: WE STILL TALKING THE SAME THING, NOW TELL ME, IF THEY ARE BEEN PAID, WOULD THEY HAVE CONSIDERED MAKING A TROLL A MOD?
Of course not, but I just don't think seun is going to be paying mods anytime soon.

We have tens of sections on nairaland, and some need nearly 24 hour surveillance.

How much do you think he could pay each mod?

I'm not one of those people who believe seun makes earth shattering money off this place, sure he makes some cool amounts, but not earth shattering.

So I'll like us to be reasonable here, how much do you think he could pay?
Nairaland GeneralRe: Dear Seun I Have Had It!!! by psky: 10:31am On Nov 09, 2013
click2cbn: Hehehe! That is wot will happen since it is a "boys scout/girls guide" work. If they r been paid, would they have tried derailing it
I don't think it is just about them being paid, I think it started with the erroneous belief of the super-mods that appointing those who themselves could not be well-behaved members would solve problems on nairaland.

Here is an excerpt of a post by mukina herself on how the admin chose a mod.
"before he became a mod, he was one of the most banned persons on romance section, i banned and warned him a lot,we decided to try the 'michelin method' (turn a fighter into a lawmaker) and he became a mod"

https://www.nairaland.com/1129796/sexkillz-voted-moderator-year-2012#13344832

That was one of their biggest mistakes. Sure it might have seemed to work at first, but how about in the long-run?

How in the world can someone lead when he does not know how to follow?

And it's even more annoying when you see these same mods banning people for the things they do on a daily basis.

My advise to the super-mods would be to appoint only the most well-behaved members as mods, not those who get into fights every other day and who always get banned, because they are only going to carry that disturbing character into the mod job.

Rain beats the leopard's skin but it doesn't wash out it's spots, please listen to your members.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Seun, Why Was I Banned For A Month? by psky: 7:53am On Nov 09, 2013
5points: i cant edit my profile.
He banned me to that extent.
I was so angry dat day.
Not even a warning, he banned only me out of all of us.
Imagine, i was just defending hezron from one stupid mazi and gbam, i was banned.
Im still working on hacking nairaland.!
Oh yeah, he would so ban me again, this time, till 3013!
Phewwwww.
Tyrant
i prefer Lord Rahl to this
Okay so let's say in an attempt to defend hezron you ended up exchanging insults with the guy, that might have been the crime.

But what makes you think you were the only one banned? And please could you send the link to the thread?

Anyway the way you are handling it is not nice at all. Some people might think you actually deserve the ban.
