All the debates, the e-fights, and all. . . this world is vain indeed. ![]() Guys, bawomolo is dead. He was gunned down four days ago in Chicago. ![]() RIP bawomolo. You were such a calm, intelligent young man. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-560180.0.html http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local-beat/dolton-shooting-olubusayo-awomolo--111095599.html http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/southsouthwest/ct-met-dolton-shooting-1201-20101130,0,525269.story |
spikedcylinder:Good question, 'cos the news was published on Nov 30. Bawomolo should better log on to NL now and tell us it's not him. |
MrPrsdent:Worldwide: extending or spread throughout the world. Note: throughout, not some parts. Besides, can you kindly list these 100 countries that engage in this practice? Even if you can, it still does not validate your original point in anyway, because 100 out of 200 isn't 'worldwide'. Don't complicate things further, mister. Just admit your mistake and move on. |
^^^ I wonder o! |
annawhite:Am I supposed to answer this? |
klas:The range of the frequencies can be restricted to the confines of the banking hall, where customers would normally be expected to transact. Official communications can be made in the staff sections. |
MrPrsdent:FALSE! |
If they really care about security, they should just install cell phone jamming devices in their banking halls, rather than stupidly harrass customers. |
Fant:Don't blow things out of proportion. So far, he's written nothing that even hints at any of these. |
With the way many have lashed out at Pastor AIO here, it is obvious Nigeria and Nigerians still have a long way to go in Critical Thinking. It is a reminder that not many people are capable of reading in between lines. And we wonder why we're so backward. Some are even quoting bible to "prove him wrong". It's just a satire, damn it! smh. |
Deep Sight:@bold part: Thought I was the only one that noticed. The thing tire me o! |
mrmayor:GBAM!!! |
@InesQor Referring to some atheists who are notorious for mudslinging on threads about religion, I asked, WITH MANY SMILIES to introduce humor, what are THESE atheists doing in the religion section? It was simple sarcasm. Purist replies about politics, and I show him the definition of a politician. Actively discussing politics ALONE makes you a politician. (Not so with religion). So doing, I was telling that his example is out of the ballpark. I ask, does he understand or should I break it down? Rather than admit he didnt get it, he went defensive and lied it was sarcasm.Okay, I won't descend to the level of calling you a liar but it really does appear to me that you seem confused, and I'll advise you take some time to peruse page 2 of this thread to see where your confusion started. It's funny that you try to turn the table around. It's a poor attempt, really. I'll break it down. You said first: If Atheism is not a religion, pray tell, what are all these dudes doing in this section? My response: And every ardent contributor in the politics section is a politician too. Your statement seemed to support the notion that atheism is indeed a religion, 'evidenced' by the number of atheists that flood the religion section. My response, in effect, was my sarcastic way of telling you that this was a baseless conclusion since 'all those dudes' in the politics section cannot be said to be politicians either just because they discuss politics all the time. It is not my fault that you failed to sense the sarcasm, so it isn't nice that you'd label me a liar. Then you went ahead to supply a definition of 'politican': Politician: A person active in party politics. Having said this yourself, how then did you turn around to begin making the erroneous claim that "actively discussing politics ALONE makes one a politician", when even your own definition contradicts this claim? Even the link you put did/does not contain, or even suggest that claim. Need I go further? Put 2 and 2 together, and see where you got it all mixed up. Cheers mate. |
Enigma:I quite agree with you. But the militancy of some atheists doesn't justify the claim that atheism IS a religion either. For me, the only connection I can possibly find between religion and atheism is in my signature. |
Besides. . . DapoBear:Your parents are quite different from his parents, I'm sure. If we dig well, we'll find that there're are also things that he can readily tell his parents that you wouldn't even dare mention to your parents. Point: People react to situations differently. Good for you if your parents wouldn't worry to death over your non-belief. This young man here isn't ready to send his own parents to an early grave, I believe. Thank you. |
^^^ Hey genius, can you help us with the definition of words like "steal" and "defraud" again? Thanks. |
@ Enigma Enigma:Well, you'd find that more often than not, this is usually the case in non-religious countries. Here in Finland, for example, you'd barely see a Finn bring up a religious issue with you. Even if you bring it up yourself, they'd rather just avoid such discussions altogether, because to most here, there's really no point in such discussions since God barely means anything to them. In a highly religious country like Nigeria however, where the actions of most people are influenced by their religious beliefs, and have direct and indirect effects on others - the non-religious inclusive - it becomes increasingly difficult for both the religious and non-religious to keep mum on religious matters. In a nutshell, people generally speak on things, not because they're obsessed or 'interested' per se, but because it affects them in one way or the other. When such effects are reduced significantly, then you should normally expect to see a proportionate decline in talks about them as well; and vice versa. |
@InesQor InesQor:Quit dancing around words. Admit you goofed, and we'll move on. You obviously FAILED to sense the sarcasm in my intial post, and now you try misrepresent my own intention for me? Try again, dude. InesQor:You didn't need to spell it out explicitly. When you said this, you certainly had reached the same conclusion as the OP, which is further made evident by the way you went hysterical on Enigma's 'corroborating' post. InesQor:And isn't MY point the fact your 'fact' is wrong? If those who are 'obsessed' with the politics section or political matters cannot be said to be politicians just on the basis of their 'obsession', why then should the rule suddenly change for religion? And wait, don't shift the focus to "in some regards" just yet. That was NOT your point initially, at least, going by your first comment on this thread, and it's certainly NOT the point of this thread either. The topic says, atheism IS a religion. Full stop. InesQor:Obviously. ![]() InesQor:Naah, no problem with the word 'religion'. The problem is with you peeps trying to fit in odd concepts into the definition of the word. |
olojoro:Well, without holding brief for the atheists, the bolded can be said of theists too, mutatis mutandis. It all depends, really. |
InesQor:Apparently, sarcasm isn't something you're familiar with. Besides, I don't understand why you're excited at Enigma's comment. Atheists are 'interested', 'obsessed', blah blah with religion, and so atheism is automatically a religion? What a brilliant conclusion . Nothing has been said here to show that atheism is a religion. |
^^^ Being 'interested' in religion, like politics, does not make one religious. That's the point. |
InesQor:And every ardent contributor in the politics section is a politician too. ![]() |
@ purist how hard it is for you to see that by just writting "God" & "belief" you have introduce "religion" in thsame passage? ? Cos that was your expectation? Am not a genius but nobody spoon feed me with trash!
yeah, smart @$$. I guess that makes my "belief" a religion then. Clap for yourself. |
"whenever or whereveryou see 'belief' and you see 'God' then there must be religion "___ Rhino.4dm
Genius. It is my belief that there are many Nigerians who reject the idea of a God. Now make a religion out of that. ![]() |
@Uyi Iredia: Your attempt at 'discombobulation' was quite effective, as you just succeeded in 'discombobulating' yourself even further. First of all, being unnecessarily verbose does NOT make you appear smart. Tone down your vocabs, perhaps, you'd make more sense that way. Secondly, your definition of atheism as being "a belief in the rejection of all belief(s) in deities" is at best, ludicrous. Pray, what is "a belief in the rejection of beliefs"?? Talk of grandiloquence. Besides, how exactly does atheism pass for a religion, when even theism doesn't? You wouldn't say that theism is a religion, would you? Finally, I hope you do know that for a belief or an ideology to be classified as a religion, there's got to be some precise theology that should be central to it. As DS rightly pointed out, the mere element of "belief" or "faith" in something doesn't suffice to religionize it. |
lol. . . so much drama. ![]() I don't think any sensible person here should take Occultist, Chantalyn and hinduism serious. They're all the same person. One more thing, the Occultist dude is obviously forging those emails purportedly sent to him by the poster. Check his typing style in each of his posts and compare with the mails, then contrast with Ivynwa's. |
Ndipe:Okay, I've been expecting someone to quote me sooner or later. Sure I know this already. Even Jet Li's actual name is Li Lian Jie. I simply pointed that out to disprove the false claim that Chinese people never answer to foreign names. Everyone does, so no big deal here. |
Interestingly, not one person on this thread has been able to tell us exactly what is wrong with an African bearing a foreign name. It is a normal practice everywhere in the world. People bear all sorts of names - culture and religion especially being the major determinants. So what exactly is the fuss all about? |
bisiaet:Not those names exactly, but quite many of them bear English names. Let's even start with the popular guys. Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Lucy Lui, Donny Yen, etc. I even got one in my class. Her name is Crystal. What's your point? |
timmy2409:Aah! Welcome to AWD101 (Introduction to Arguing With Davidylan). You have succinctly captured the scope of this interesting course in just your first encounter. Don't worry, you'll get used to him with time. He's an interesting fellow though. ![]() |

atheists who just exist day to day; do not even think about God let alone to consider or ponder his existence, yet let alone to consider discussing his existence with others, yet let alone to try to persuade others of his non-existence. These atheists just live, they just exist. God is not even in the picture at all for them.

. Nothing has been said here to show that atheism is a religion.
