Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part2 by Qaslay(m): 4:52am On Sep 04, 2013
I am happy to inform the house that I got my Visa yesterday. My application status was updated on Monday to "Processed Visa delivered to UPS...", and yesterday, the parcel was delivered. I didn't get an SMS alert before receiving my visa. I submitted on the 16th of August, so it took about 11 working days. My appreciation goes to everyone that has asked or answered a question on this thread, with a special mention of the master himself, Justwise.

I have been a rather quiet follower of the thread, though answered and asked 1 or 2 questions before my submission. I have benefitted from everyone on here and I must say I am impressed with the decent and matured comments. You guys are doing a great job. For those still waiting, I wish you the very best.

And I think Justwise deserves an award for the wonderful job he's doing here. smiley

Since the old one was not used at all then submit only the new one

Thanks. But on my online form, I stated that I have an old passport with me and I also entered the passport number. I hope leaving it out will not be interpreted as an attempt to hide something since I already mentioned that I have an old passport (that has not expired) with me.

Hi Justwise and others, I'm to submit my application soon. Should I submit the two international passports with me? The old one hasn't expired, but it will in less than 6month, so I got another one. Please I need your advice on this. Urgent please

NB: I didn't use the old one at all, but the empty pages were all stamped at the immigration office..

Thanks

SAT1: @justwise and all:

Am submitting my application on 15th. kindly confirm that the appendix 8 form submission is compulsory.

Also my CAS says the following concerning documents:

Qualification evidence; BSc Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

English evidence; Assessed at CEFR level B2; Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Lagos.

I have my University of Lagos Certificate and am thinking it should solely be enough for both the english and qualifications evidences as suggested by the CAS. Is this rigth? If not kindly advice on other documents to include.

Submission of Appendix 8 form is compulsory. It is clearly stated on UKBA website:
"Depending on the country where you live, you may need to make your application online or using application form VAF9. To find out which method you should use, see 'More information' below.

All applicants must also complete and submit the relevant version of Appendix 8 of the form."

Computers / MTN Blocked Connection To Itunes On Data Bundles??? by Qaslay(m): 11:12pm On Oct 05, 2012
Hello, I have been using MTN internet data bundles consistently since the beginning of this year, and I never had issues connecting to itunes on my iPhone, iPad on PC. However, for about two weeks now, I have been getting the message 'cannot connect to itunes" anytime I open the app store app. Initially, I thought it was just a problem with my iPad until tonight when I tired the same on my iPhone and PC itunes app, and got the same message. I also tried using airtel internet service and I was able to download an app from the app store on my iPad and had no problem connecting to itunes on my PC. So I concluded that either Apple has blocked MTN IP address or MTN has blocked us from connecting to itunes, like they did with youtube on Blackberry. I ruled out my first conclusion by opening apple.com on safari, and it opened though the pages were not rendered probably(the graphics were absent). So I'm yet to rule out the second conclusion, which is why I'm posting this.

Please, if you are experiencing this same problem, do share and if you've found a way around it, let's know. Thanks.
Computers / Re: Post Your Imac, Macbook And Macbook Pro Problems Here. by Qaslay(m): 6:29am On Aug 24, 2012
Hello,
I am planning to buy a MacBook pro. I have two options: either to buy it from stores in US through a friend travelling down very soon or from authorised dealers in Nigeria. The first option is cheaper but I'm afraid I may not be able to access the warranty coverage if I use that option. Of course this wont be a problem if I decide to buy from authorised dealers in Nigeria, but this is quite expensive.

My questions: Is it possible to access the warranty service from authorised dealers in Nigeria if it is bought in US? What is your advice for me considering that I want something not too expensive and also want to have access to its warranty coverage?

I will appreciate a prompt response because my friend will be travelling very soon. thanks
Phones / Subscribers Will Not Pay For Number Portability Service, Says NCC by Qaslay(m): 7:51pm On Apr 23, 2012
The Nigerian Communications Commission
(NCC) says subscribers will not pay for
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service
scheduled to begin in September.
A statement titled ‘Nigeria Mobile Number
Portability - Business Rules and Port Order
Processes’ posted on NCC website indicates
that only the recipient operators would pay
for the service.
MNP is a facility that gives telephone
subscribers the ability to retain their original
Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) numbers
when changing from one mobile service
provider to another.
“For the avoidance of doubt, neither the
`recipient operator’ nor the `donor
operators’ shall be entitled to charge
subscribers for requesting to use the porting
service or for porting their numbers.
“The only porting transaction charge,
permitted under the Nigeria MNP business
rules, will be the one levied by the central
order handling system provider on the
respective recipient operator for each
successfully completed porting transaction.
“The successful porting transaction fee
charged by the central order handling
system provider will be agreed and
approved by the NCC and may at the its sole
discretion, be varied from time to time,” the
commission said.
The donor operator is the mobile service
provider which is losing the customers
number through MNP, while the recipient
operator is provider which is acquiring the
customer’s number through MNP.
Also, the central order handling system
provider is the provider that processed the
MNP orders.
The NCC said that the central order handling
system provider would issue invoices on a
monthly basis to each recipient operator.
It said that such invoices would contain the
volume and number of successful porting
transactions completed by each operator
within the billing period, multiplied by the
NCC approved porting transaction fee.
The NCC urged all service providers to pay
the central order handling system provider
on time.
It also advised service providers to have
appropriate records of porting transactions
in order to satisfy the billing and audit
requirements of MNP.
The providers have also been equally
advised to avoid conflict with the central
order handling system provider.
Eugene Juwah, the Executive Vice Chairman
of NCC, has promised that MNP would
become operational in September, 2012.

Phones / Re: Mtn Simple Surf (time Browsing) A Big Scam by Qaslay(m): 11:58am On Mar 31, 2012
Thanks to the Almighty, I heard MTN throttles the Time plan so decided to try with the 2hour plan. And it was very true. After downloading about 80MB at max speed, the speed then went as low as 1kb/s and never went pass 10kb/s. It was really annoying.

MTN can only do this in this country because the regulators are either sleeping or getting checks for turning a blind eye to this scam.

I wish I had the money, I would have sued a hell out of this good-for-nothing service provider.

I wish other networks-glo, etisalat and airtel-will roll out their own timed plans soonest and beat this beast of a network to it as usual.

Anyway, I am happy I didn't fall for the 13k 90days plan.
(Not out to ridicule the unfortunate few though)

Bashar Assad, Syrian president, is also on the list. So i guess "important" can be both in the positive and negative senses.
Sure GEJ is one the "not-positvely" important person on the list.
Thats the only logical explanation for his inclusion.

Business / Re: GTB Dollar Visa Card Or Zenith Websufer Card? by Qaslay(m): 5:06pm On Mar 30, 2012
Thanks Ziccoit for putting up those questions. I hope members of this great forum who have personal experience with any of these cards or on how to buy online generally will be able to provide useful answers to these questions

With the level of internet usage in Nigeria now, I think we should be able to do some of those things that have eluded us for years.

I also pray the government can do something fast to put an everlasting end to the menace called "yahoo yahoo" so that we can regain our credibility in the outside world and online transactions will be enjoyed by Nigerians.

So the questions again are:

1) Which is the best online
payment solution most widely
accepted?

2) Which is the cheapest?

3) Does any merchant ship to
Nigeria?

May be I should edit the title of the thread to make it more general and encompassing.
Any suggestion?

Thanks
Business / Re: GTB Dollar Visa Card Or Zenith Websufer Card? by Qaslay(m): 11:40am On Mar 30, 2012
WebSolutnX: Payment cards are now easy to get from every bank just like opening bank accounts. So, we have heard of Zenith bank WEB SURFER, GTBank NAIRA MASTERCARD, UBA AFRICARD, and others offered by other banks.

Like the opening of bank accounts, I like GTBank b'cos, its a zero balance bank account, ...

In other words what I mean here is that what are the hidden and open charges involved in the usage of the card.

Some banks charge when you use the card to pay for goods online, some even charge when you check your balance ...

Let's talk about this.

Yeah, thanks for raising the issue of banks charges for using these cards, which is also an important factor to consider when deciding on which one to choose.

But, let's leave GTB Naira MasterCard out of this cos its not accepted by a quite number of merchant in US, like Amazon, BestBuy, etc. Even where its accepted, you may need to try many times. Though I used it on Apple App store and it was accepted without much ado but then the payment was to Apple's banker in Luxembourg and not US.

So the ones to consider really are
1: GTB Dollar Visa Card linked to a Dollar domiciliary account
2: Zenith websurfer card(Mastercard)
3: UBA africard(Visa card)

So, please if you are using or have used any of these cards, please kindly share your experience and list the merchants/websites any of them has been accepted.

Hopefully through this information, we will be able to determine the best out of these cards.

Lest I forget, the charges WebsolutnX mentioned above is also important, let's comment on that too.

Thanks guys.

It is has never been rejected at any site, even gambling site accept it. I was using websufer until some one introduce it to me. It convert dollar to naira n vice versa

Thanks, why did you stop using the websurfer? how much is the charges and can I pay Naira directly into the account?
Business / GTB Dollar Visa Card Or Zenith Websufer Card? by Qaslay(m): 10:21pm On Mar 29, 2012
Hi everyone,

I need to make some payments online and from the information I have gathered so far, the only way is to use either a dollar Visa/MasterCard card linked to a domiciliary account or the Zenith websurfer card. I have a domiciliary account with GTB and was thinking of getting a dollar Visa card linked to it until I saw Zenith websurfer. Now I am not sure which one to get. Has anyone used or is using any of the two or both? I need advice on which of the two is better and more widely accepted online.

Thanks.
Foreign Affairs / South Africa Apologises To Nigeria Over Diplomatic Row. by Qaslay(m): 1:24pm On Mar 08, 2012
PRETORIA (AFP) – South Africa on Thursday
apologised for blocking 125 Nigerians from the
country and unveiled new immigration
procedures aimed at ending a diplomatic row
between the continent’s two powerhouses.
The dispute blew up after immigration officials
at Johannesburg’s main airport on Friday
refused entry to Nigerians over suspicions that
their yellow fever vaccination cards were fake.
Every day since, Nigeria has turned away dozens
of South Africans in retaliation.
“We apologise for this unfortunate incident and
we hope this matter will not in any way affect
our bilateral relations,” deputy foreign minister
Ibrahim Ibrahim told reporters in Pretoria.
“We’ve put into place certain mechanisms to
ensure this doesn’t happen again, and we
believe that this matter is closed,” he added.
“We are in contact with the embassy in Nigeria,
to see that there are no longer problems, and
that any difficulties over vaccination certificates
are dealt with before a visa is issued.”
He did not expect an apology from Nigeria over
its retaliatory actions, he said. “We understand
the reaction of the Nigerian authorities.”
The authorities have agreed to re-open an
airport clinic that would allow travellers to
receive yellow fever vaccines on arrival;and to
require a foreign ministry official’s consent
before immigration authorities turn away large
groups of travellers.
South Africa, the richest country on the
continent, is struggling with its reputation for
xenophobia — a perception that was reinforced
after nationwide attacks on immigrants left 62
dead in 2008.
The government has moved quickly to mend
this latest row.
“Cabinet expressed shock and regret at the
reports regarding how African foreign nationals,
particularly Nigerians, and other nationals from
other parts of the world have been treated” at
Johannesburg’s main airport, minister in the
presidency Collins Chabane told reporters in
Cape Town earlier Thursday.
On Tuesday Nigerian Foreign Minister
Olugbenga Ashiru had accused the South
African authorities of targeting Nigerians.
“What you see playing out is what we call
xenophobia by South Africans against all
Africans — not just Nigerians — including even
those from their neighbouring countries,” Ashiru
added.
Friday’s incident prompted Nigeria’s Arik Air to
suspend its flights to Johannesburg, though it
has since resumed its service.
South Africa’s ambassador also called the
Nigerian foreign ministry over the issue.
Arik, one of two airlines affected, said health
officials had given the reason as incorrect or
unrecognised batch numbers on the
documentation. Proof of vaccination is
mandatory before one can enter the country.
Sales of fake vaccination cards are common at
Nigerian borders.

:DThanks so much for giving us this opportunity. Its really a nice concept. A friend of mine wants to get a used Iphone. which is better; Amazon or Ebay? Tried Amazon but could not get the detail information of the  used phone and its picture unlike, the new one. As for Ebay, I have not tried because I am kind of sceptical about buying through Ebay based on the experience of one of my friends.

Also, how do you determine a trusted sellers on these sites?
