Hannibal: Why would u take CASH out of a credit card?? assuming you were sending emergency money to Nigeria, will you give them your CC number? Western union won't even take CC the last time I was there. |

Hannibal: Why would u take CASH out of a credit card?? Just swipe the damn thang and move on. . . . . . . Anyways, i don't blame Americans. . . . .they love the BLACK MARKET where cash rules. . . .
All i am saying is both of em(CCs and Bank Loans) are not worth the stress. . . . .It's standing between the devil and the deep blue sea. Honey,if you're ever in a bind and need cash please go to your bank since you can't swipe and get money without paying at 25% with a CC. That's my point. |

Hannibal: Look at Queenisha. . . . .Whats the difference between a bank loan and a credit card?? You still get to pay twice as much eventually so it's the same thing. . . the difference is insignificant.
I hope u don't take bank loans to buy cosmetics. . . . . .Bailiffs can be mean so beware!!! Big difference sugar plum Bank loans with a collateral with good credit can be as low as 6% and most times they will request a direct debit before you even get a hold of your paycheck and the loan is spread out for a period over which you must pay it all back. Take out money from a credit card, you're paying at 24.99% and may pay it till the day you drop dead. |

Ruby_Pearl: I no know the diff between debit /credit card o.
All I know is that I have a card. when I need to buy something, sometimes I press debit, other times I press credit.Am I doing sth wrong? Then you have a debit card. Meaning you have money in that account and you're paying directly from your account not owing any company. You can't use a credit card as a debit card. |

RedHotChic: In Nigeria, when doctors close from work, they've closed but in America, they go home but stay beside their pagers. Imagine when you land yourself a trifling doctor as a husband? not so really. Esp in teaching hospitals there are always doctors on call in all the units. |
Romance › Re: Penny Lover! by Queenisha: 10:01pm On Jul 16, 2008 |
KarmaMod: Imagine being in school for so long just to end up wallowing in debt. Disgusting.
Then of course you have the people who have credit card upon credit card upon credit card. I remember when they showed one lady crying on the phone when one of her credit card debtors called her, she was begging them to leave her alone. The whole convo was hilarious and depressing at the same time because the operator kept aksing 'if you knew you couldnt pay back, why did you get the cry", lol she didnt even cry that the woman was bawling on the phone.
Lady ended up killing herself.
Good thing that while growing up anytime a credit card application came in the mail for any of us, my parents esp my dad would just cut it up right in front of our faces, cut up the cards, the applications, anything like that. Such a shame that people get themselves into such a mess Credit cards? That thing has done people things in this place You can do everything with debit cards. Rent cars, book a hotel, flights etc. I'll rather get a loan from my bank than owe a creditcard company |

RedHotChic: Sometimes you wonder whether it's even worth it to go to medical school in America if money is your main aim of becoming the doctor. Any man in America married to a doctor should be ready to baby sit as many nights as possible because your wife will be on call even during sex. ROFL. The pager may go off mid-systole and without warning she pulls out the mandingo and jumps into the shower. This place can be tough |

RedHotChic: Whatever, You must have been reading too much "Songs of poor Solomon". First impression matters a lot. Looks may attract you to someone but I sure hope you look beyond that to decide if you want to keep them for life. Romance › Re: Penny Lover! by Queenisha: 9:27pm On Jul 16, 2008 |
4 Play: Above debt? Or you mean without debt. You can live within your means if you want to,it is just that societal pressures make you want to keep spending to 'keep up appearances'.
The idea of spending the greater part,if not your entire working life living on credit is ridiculous. A doctor mentioned off the cuff that his colleague came to borrow £40 from him.I might be making too much of it but it did sound awkward. You keep seeing people in highly paid jobs whining about bank overdraft charges. . . . how the hell did that become an issue in the first place for people in such positions? We have a friend,a highly placed professional who didn't have enough money in his bank account to show to immigration when he was bringing his wife over here. He called us looking for a cosigner to bring over his own Iyawo. I tell you there's nothing I haven't seen in America. But this man has several cars o. |

davidylan: I do not use an iPhone, for a student it is simply a waste of money. But i wont begrudge those who choose to buy it for the value for money it gives them. Not everyone who chooses to splash money on an item is reckless.
collection agents? Never seen them, i sleep with 2 eyes closed. That's just our point. People should cut their coats according to their size. Sadly most people don't |

Romance › Re: Penny Lover! by Queenisha: 9:16pm On Jul 16, 2008 |
RedHotChic: I know a doctor friend that is not married. She has over $300K in school loans, bought a condo for $250K and an infiniti FX 45 for $35K. Damn, this girl cannot wait for her pay check every two weeks to meet up on her bills. She bought some of her furnitures from bang and olufsen and they are all financed. Life is hell for her because even her fiancee is getting worried that she may end up filing for bankrupcy in America. And this story is not a unique one. There are hundreds of thousands if not millions in her situation. There are those that can't even afford to participate in the company's 401K retirement plan because they can't afford to put away 5% of their salary monthly. That's how low it can get. Of course I understand there are situations like illness and co that can warrant such hardship but most of the time that's not the case. It's too much "show off living" |
Romance › Re: Penny Lover! by Queenisha: 9:10pm On Jul 16, 2008 |
davidylan: There is a reason that phone is $500 and not $5, it has other options that are of precious value to those who value it.
There is a reason one is $80 and the other is $20 . . . its that expensive because they are more durable, sound to noise ratio is way higher and some have the capacity to block outside noise. Those are the things that justify the cost.
When you do a cost-benefit analysis, its far better to get an $80 earphone that will last 5yrs than buy $20 earphones every 6 months. David do you know that over 90% of people don't use any of those functions? It's like when VCR was the in thing. a regular VCR player that played just tapes was v cheap but these ones that recorded and did all sorts of acrobatics were 3 X more and looked flashier but who knew how to work them? But people bought them because they did this and that. If you don't have a business to attend to what do you need an Iphone or blackberry for esp if you have to pay more for the internet service? Most of us have home PC. |

4 Play: @Queenisha
People in the Anglo-Saxon world-US,Britain,Australia,e.t.c- are knee deep in debt. In the UK,household debt surpasses savings by about $5trillion! People seem to regard debt as income. Are you telling me You know I'm older than most of you here My eyes have seen things. I have seen a doctor and his wife who literally live from hand to mouth despite the fat salaries. Most people are deep in debt up to their eye balls and living pay check to pay check just because they want to look rich. who are they deceiving? I don't ride a benz or Jag and at the same time I don't spend sleepless nights wondering how to pay for them monthly. |
Romance › Re: Penny Lover! by Queenisha: 9:00pm On Jul 16, 2008 |
RedHotChic: Roflmao. Some prosperity pastors preach against your mentality by the way. Their philosophy is "if your father in heaven is rich, why belittle him by living poor". That's why some Nigerian bankers cannot save because they attend these churches, make shopping trips to UK and put their kids in primary schools they can literally afford. My best friend has tried her best to change me to become a little more materialistic and worldly but that's not me. I can't imagine using my hard earned $1,500 to buy Gold necklace when a $250 14K one looks equally presentable. I've gotten a little better now. |
Romance › Re: Penny Lover! by Queenisha: 8:50pm On Jul 16, 2008 |
davidylan: If i can afford a $500 phone i definitely will get it. Why make all that money and refuse to spend it? Saving is good, but the goal of saving is not to impoverish yourself but to provide a safety net.
How much is the latest iPhone 3G now? what do you call being able to afford something? If all you use your phone for is to make, receive calls and send and receive texts why buy a $500 when a $189 phone can do same? |
