esere826: @queensmith

Thanks for throwing more light on the communication topic. It is very helpful to me in further building my repertoire of information/experience

@readers that have been interested in this part of the thread

If you've noticed the exchanges between queensmith, justwise and I, you could reach a conclusion that there is no one perfect way to acheiving your objectives. I stongly believe this. This would invariably mean that I approach my career with a bag of tricks. If one doesn't work, i reach for another.
you can say that again jare- thankfully there are soo many professionals moving in from nigeria so that offers a spark of encouragement. smiley
Sometimes I look at how difficult things are for young graduates today... Then I see primary and nursery school children and I wonder what will be left for them as inheritance when all these pple av shared all their inheritance to buy properties in dubai. Nigeria is a f.u.cking mess.
if in this day and age, billions can still be wired from gov.t to personal accounts, tommorow it will be trillions. I can just imagine the lifestyle, no wonder thier kids bounce about the gaff like no mans business.

esere826: I like ur stance, but em .. like i said in one of my earlier posts my observation is that whereas polish accented gals with not too 'good' english get 'white' collar jobs more easily, same cannot be said for their male counterparts. I think that to some degree its the subconciouse pleasentness of the sound to the hearer that affects reactions. i also suspect that such assimilation might differ in different environments/contexts

I mean, make we tok true. Even for 9ja we dey yab some kine accent no matter how correct the english is.
I don't think so, the first thing people need to learn when living here is that you have to adjust to the diversity. Nobody speaks like the queen (not even her grandsons) prince harry has a heavier 'innit' accent 'theyll be slaggin you off like' than most slang users I know. You will come across directors and CEOs with heavy cockney accents, you'll speak to sales representatives and barely know what theyre saying (be it indians or people from yorkshire). Finance professionals that just landed in the country and can barely string english sentences together.
Lecturers with conc accents yo have to record and play back very slowly to understand, it's only if the person hiring you is classist (i cant really say if that's common since i'm yet to hear accents can stop you from getting a job) that it will hold you back.
Granted if you've spent enough time in a professional environment to become qualified you probably will have let your 'innit' accent go, but if you havent it's not going to stop you much. (i dont think anyway, i don't work in HR so i'm only speaking from what i've observed)

Has anybody studied genetics can they explain how this thing works to me? I hate to be such a skeptic but it sounds too much like a scam, how is someone going to know where they are from through dna? Especially since its highly unlikey the generations before that person didn't breed with people of like origin.
Romance › Re: What Some Men Detest About Women; .....Just being Devils advocate...! by queensmith: 3:41pm On Jun 16, 2012
ICEMAN01: Accusing a 100% heterosexual male of Gay tendencies is certainly an insult in my view..and I am sure most heterosexual men would agree...so there you go..and lets make it clear..I Love and respect women..the post is not necessarily my view..hence the heading.."What men detest about Women"..That does not however mean that I cannot relate or agree with what a lot of men think and feel..smiley
Its not a gay tendency, it's a sign of homosexuality. Because you feel pressured towards a gender you don't naturally like.
You cannot love and respect women and detest women at the same time, make up your mind. Soo many men here are too bloody confused.
Romance › Re: Age Difference Sure Matters In 'Will You Marry Me?' by queensmith: 3:33pm On Jun 16, 2012
oyinbogirl: Old man and young woman aint a good look if u knw what i mean. A girl needs a guy more or less in her own decade, one she can have fun with and grow old together with. Whats the use of an old man, even a relatively fit one? The older he gets, the more chance he will die, likely b4 her and leave her alone with kids to raise...Old man cant kompare with young active guys...sorry, just my 2 cents no offence ment to anyone
cosign, why should a woman waste her youth on an old man? A man that has lived and enjoyed his own life? Abeg.
Christianity Etc › Re: Will You Marry An Atheist? by queensmith: 9:29am On Jun 16, 2012
Logic Mind: you are suffering from withdrawal symptoms. we all went through it. it is very tough to let go of a belief you have held since childhood. the body reacts against it. the mind goes into a turmoil and the brain becomes confused.
however, if you persist in seeking knowledge and the truth, you will one day, come to the absolute certainty that there is no god.
And that, my sister, is when your life begins.
militant atheists in the house.
