o do tell how that 1.5 years is going to severely affect his outgoing personality?

401kk: Most men wouldn't mind marrying an atheist in the first place because they're more open minded and logical than women. You can see that from the thread
You obviously have some sort of dyslexia, how many men here have said they will marry an atheist, nonsense.

justwise: I don't think so, moderate use of it should be ok, i can't stand people who ends everything they say by 'innit'
lol, i like it- moderate use of slang. That's like saying people should make moderate use of English when trying to communicate.

ICEMAN01: I posted a comment; again read the Header-There is a clear difference here...An insult is a rude comment personally directed at an individual i.e "You Guys are Gay"..Lets not beat around the bush..If you or anyone else has a valid and intelligent comment to contribute to this thread am all for that, anything else is just a sign of pure rudeness and a lack of morale fibre..go figure!..And just fyi am a straight as can be!

esere826: A lot of people seem irrated by this "trying to speak oyibo thing"

I've been scratching my head trying to understand why. Even me i dey vex some times wen 9ja dey try speak oyibo. I'm beginning to suspect that na the incomplete accent they worry people (kai, i don start analysis again... God save me.)I mean, if a 9ja guy comes to you and speaks oyibo fluently without ur noticing the 9ja bit, will u be upset? If u knew the bloke before his transformation, then after his transformation will u be upset? many questions..
I think it's an attention thing, when i'm speaking to someone with an african accent i automatically change to an african accent. If im speaking to anyone else i speak normal, its reflex for me but i think its just to blend in to different environments.
On the other hand, when someone with a very african accent tries to pull off 'phone' like dragging or singing words it's damn irritating,. And that includes when these african artists (with very concentrated accents) try to pull off american accents, they sound ridiculous.
Do they not realise they sound ridiculous? Meanwhile some people, like wole soyinka, that guy on channels, all the posh rich kids!, pull off african accents in a fantastic manner,

justwise: What irritates me is when people over use some street slangs, 'innit' for example
Isn't that the whole point of slang? Overusing the words you are used to!

ajufinz: At a medical school oath taking ceremony which took place some months back, the Medical Director in His speech told the students who were mostly males that they should not be fooled by the 'flippy floppy' romance they've had in their stay at medical school. That marrying your mate is a biological ERROR, not to talk of someone (lady) who is older.

He maintained that ideally, the lady should be at least 6years younger or at most 12years younger? I just can't help but begin to fear for most medically inclined dudes & babes out there, how healthy are the scientify expos-E to our reality?
wow, and people will take him seriously because he is a medical doctor. Not knowing the man is chatting absolute nonsense and using his position to impose his personal beliefs on others in form of an educated statement.

What does that even have to do with anything? Instead of him to tell them things that will boost their careers, this country my life. They outdo themselves everytime.

Personally I used to think the same way but now I don't, I don't like the idea of my man being much older than me, i think we can be better friends if we are about the same age. I wouldn't go for a guy more than 2 years older than me. and even that 2 years seems very huge to me.

ICEMAN01: Hello All,
I have observed and read quite a few posts on NL and find a number of them quite intriguing..however what always appears to be top of the agenda is the notion that men should constantly provide for their women folk..and men on the other hand having a more balanced viewpoint-i.e more of an equal imput into the relationship (Financially)..So can men and women be seen as equals if men are expected to be sole providers?

PS:This is my first post here so I am just breaking the ice..no pun intended..So pls no insults or un-inteligent responses!

Thanks and regards to All!
equality is inevitable- it's just going to take some time. Times are very different now to before. Even in Africa where they maintain a mysogynistic culture women are getting into higher positions, higher rankings and setting greater standards.
It will soon be the wish of everywoman to have an equal chance to make money in the workplace, to advocate for womens rights, to maintain her own financial stability, to own her own properties and to be less dependant on men.

Its true alot of women (even educated ones) do have views that men should be the sole providers at home, and i guess when they go into relationships each person understands what is expected of them (ie the guy doesnt mind working and the girl staying at home with the kids). At the same time there are women who will not sacrifce their careers for anything, you just need to get a partner that shares the same views as you.

Meanwhile, i saw a pregnant woman waddling on the bus today, i was busy staring at her. It cannot be an easy thing being pregnant. I respect women that do all that and work at the same time meehn.
Romance › Re: He Loves Me And Wants To Marry Me But Mixes Tenses. What Do I Do? by queensmith: 3:15pm On Jun 15, 2012
pepperliny: We have been very good friends for about three years now and he is such a nice person, very hardworking too with a self-employed business that pays his bills. now he wants to take the friendship to another level but the snag there is that he mixes his tenses and is not very fluent with English, though he is a part time graduate.i correct him once in a while because i don't want to trample on his ego and u know how men can be sometimes,he might later think am trying to be a control freak. He is very caring and doting though a good man. i have dated some other guys in the past who have got "swag" but they are not as caring and doting as this one and the kind of family i come from is one that is so particular about the way people speak. i think this all goes to show that there is no perfect being. what do u guys think cos i don't know how am going to present him to my family and friends with his tenses on the long run? i do like him a lot anyway and he loves me very much. pls what do u advice?
I know how you feel, sometimes you can feel smarter than your partner or be worried about the way he presents himself and what other will perceive about him but I think you just need to look at whether or not he makes you happy and ignore everything else. Its all superficial nonsense. When the both of you are together alone how do you feel? Does he fill you with joy? What does mixing up tenses (and trust me, he could be born in england and still not be able to speak well enough!) or anything else like that have to do with it?
If you like him, love him and dont give a hoots about what others think.

[quote author=ICEMAN01]Lies, pretence, etc I won’t be surprised if by the time you finish reading this you’ll be asking for my head but I won’t shy from being the advocate for the millions of young men out there who have a lot to say about what they detest in women.

[quote]you guys are yet to realise that you are gay. The first clue is the fact that you detest women!

Then again, he's English and England never really produced any philosopher of equal status as Marx, so he may just be jealous cheesy

sauer: can I ask whether you have any religious beliefs whatsoever?

This jonathan guy seems quite a brilliant and engaging writer. Now, do I see myself adding this to my to-read list!

No, Jesus wasn't created at the council of nicea. Of course, he existed well before then and there had been fights to have him installed in a "trinity". This was merely formalised at the council of nicea. If anyone knew this history and many more which paint christianity as the creation of an assembly of men, why would the same person take the religion so seriously? huh
well he was quite bias, he made a bit of an effort to discredit communism and somne of marx's writings but it was a good introduction for me into marx's works. I havent read the communist manifesto but i'll try that one soon.

no, it's only after i made that comment that you deleted the rest.

The last post you left was still of him insulting both shymmex and c.fours. You obviously think its fine for him to insult everybody, so long as nobody responds. and that encourages his coonery

Am i the only person he insulted on that thread? you deleted the lasts posts but you left the rest, why? so it's ok for him to insult people but for someone to respond is a problem?

sauer: That again is not very fair to knowledge. When people (and most Nigerians I know) hear the word "atheist", their mind just takes flight. What comes to their imagination is better left unsaid
like goldie said, you either believe in her religion by fire by force or you are an agent of the devil There is no other way, people are not allowed to follow their own pattern of thought. You must all conform to what society has dictated to you and stop asking too many questions!
Christianity Etc › Re: Will You Marry An Atheist? by queensmith: 1:55pm On Jun 15, 2012
shymmex: Stop dyckriding people on a thread, you simpleton... Do you know what an atheist is?

The same girl who's getting excited about reading a Karl Marx book, I read when I was in college - is out here chatting crap as if she knows a damn thing about what she's talking about...

Your problem is that you're confused, and you're looking for a place you can attach yourself to... Learn to listen when people who have survived your present predicament talk. undecided

Nothing scares me about atheism - I just don't like people living in denial, period.
Well done, you could read when you was in college, clap for yourself
Christianity Etc › Re: Will You Marry An Atheist? by queensmith: 1:53pm On Jun 15, 2012
Goldieluks: If praying does not solve your problems, what does?
It is a two way thing my dear, it is either one believe in God or the devil.
You have to choose one.
well this is the thing, when I'm seeking for something I seek God. I pray and fast and do all those things, though i'm not overtly religous. but if one was to ask me why, i'll just say I've been raised that way. When we need help, guidance the rest just seek the face of God. I can't give a justified reason why. I know too many hypocritical christians to trust anything people try to say in the name of God, but I know it doesn't matter what deity you worship. If you are a good person of sound spirit no religion can change that.

Atheists are not a cult or an organisation or anything like that, they just don't believe in deitys, and rightfully so, have we seen God? Has anybody seen him? Can you prove you have seen him? no, we only believe what we want. Atheists are aware of that and look at things in a more practical sense. Not every atheist or pagan gives a hoot about what others believe in, most couldnt care less.
Christianity Etc › Re: Will You Marry An Atheist? by queensmith: 1:47pm On Jun 15, 2012
[quote author=emöfine2]Very interesting...do you recall the title of the book?

Is that difficult to fathom?....would it seem so absurd?...although I doubt that was what she was implying.

However on the flip-side some people believe in the existence of “God” because they read a book...the bible. So if indeed queensmith went about it the other way it’s no different to those who discovered their faith through the pages of a book.
