Nettuno: Thanks so much. Is this repairable? What might be the best procedure and cost implications? I can tell you what we would charge. Valve seals http://weblink.carquest.com/acl/?mfgName=FEL&partNumber=SS72878 N28,346 Labor 26.3 hours N131,500 (see highlighted part for why in the diagram below) CAVEATS: Before any of that is done though, diagnosis would be done to confirm. If the car has less than 100k miles on it, means it has excessive wear and may not be worth it to do. You shouldn't need a valve seals job on a low mileage engine. If that's the case you are better off just riding it till it dies.

Nettuno: Oga Gazzuz, Please I just got this 2008 highlander limited. At first start in the morning, it produces heavy grey smoke and water from the exhaust, but in the course of driving it clears up. I put my finger in the exhaust pipe and it comes out painted with heavy black powder and water and smells like something burnt. There is no oil leak, shortage or check engine light. What could be the cause of this thick grey/blue smoke and water from exhaust in the mornings particularly? Thanks. How long before each stops each morning? |

Infact I know someone that had accident with other 4 cars, no license and police arrested her. She got bailed for $200, got a ticket of $1500 and even went to court, Judge dismissed the 1500$ ticket, told her to pay $500 and Yes, Insurance paid for the repairs of those people car except hers.

PhantomProbe: Help... 2004 Nissan pathfinder. Cranks slowly, but doesn't start. No spark too. Has about 119k miles. My dad got car Nigerian-used. Initially, car jerks when accelerating. Also, won't rev past 2500 rpms. Had mechanic change the oil and air filter prior to embarking on trip from Lagos to Warri with the car. ...
since then, it has refused to start again with whatever battery. Had to be towed from Benin to Warri. Present state is, it cranks slowly but won't start. First of all, mech dat came to check her suggested the timing chain must have skipped. And then later, he found out that the spark plugs aren't getting voltage when he checked. So he advised we get anoda flywheel sensor. Brought like two, (although he wasn't sure if the ones he brought were still functional) but no positive result. Still slow cranks, and no start. Had it scanned for codes yesterday and it showed these: P1131 current SWIRL CONT SOL/V and P0335 1ST TRIP CKP SEN/CIRCUIT. Please, take am easy with us, we have obviously abused this car. I fearWe need advice, what can we do to get this car running again?
And all the Nissan/Infiniti geeks here. Start with the crankshaft position sensor and go from there. Simple diagnoses are hard enough sight unseen so in this case be prepared for a lot of trial and error. http://weblink.carquest.com/acl/?mfgName=BWD&partNumber=CSS977 N29,112 |

Do anyhow like they say you see anyhow, customer care you people always refer to is different what we are talking about here. It's not a conditional statement. They don't HAVE to do it to get good service from us. It just makes it easier to serve them if they do. If we go the route you suggest we should turn them away. Some of you can't understand the earnings some drivers claim. Maybe you should ask how they deal with these issues. I guarantee you their attitude is out of the norm and they are not ready to kick riders out of their car at the slightest assumption of a slight. Case in point someone would have cancelled on me when I called them Oga on the phone because they assume I'm belittling them. |

....]
Me: Hello Ma. You requested for Uber. Am at Lateef Jakande. I want to confirm your address is 100001 Acme road.
Rider: Why are you not on your way yet? Oga am tired of these nonsense from you drivers. Am very late for church. 2 drivers have cancelled on me and I will be very angry with you if you cancel.
Me: Madam is that a threat? Hope you know this is my car right and am not your personal driver? You must behave well mannered if you want this ride to happen. Be courteous of your next words because you lack courtesy. ....
By the way if I may ask, Dru23 that has been saying things about being enduring and humble in the Service industry in order to become a boss... What has he achieved with his live aside retailing Mobil oil and arguing with people on Nairaland? This is exactly what I am talking about. While entertaining, IMHO these situations could have been handled very differently with very different outcomes. At the risk of drawing ire, you have no business in the service industry. Maybe in Nigeria this is okay but anywhere else.... And before you say I don't understand how rude people can be, yes I do. This sign is hanging in our lobby but still does not give us an excuse for poor customer service. Again, I'm not saying you should take anything they throw at you. What I'm saying is you should learn to either prevent from happening in the first place or better ways to handle it when it does. Most of the ways I see on this thread are absolutely ridiculous. There are some however I have seen that were Savage and entertaining yet professional. Learn from THOSE guys. IZZOU comes to mind. I can be a huge whole asshole but not a single customer will say I am because I know how to handle people.

topsydee007: I agree with u..some riders are just rude since they were conceived . I have experienced a rider shouting on the phone even when I have not even gotten to pick up location. For me...I simply reply them. If he/she cannot wait for me to arrive or is not comfortable with anything...simply cancel.
At times. .giving rider impression that u are not desperate to make a trip will make them calm down ..
I hate personally when someone request a ride..let's say u are going to the airport. Your flight is 4pm ..u request a ride 3:30pm especially long distance and traffic route...and u are shouting on the driver to drive like James bond or to jump the traffic. Is it my fault that u left home or office late. Why should I bear the risk of your lateness.
I politely tell them am not the reason for their lateness as I can't drive above my speed limit. ..as far as am concerned ..safety comes first....I will also them dem.if you ain't comfortable..I can park so u take another rider. Forget the money....I bet u....they will shut up. Loud it! |

peeps4u: I've heard you. You assumed that for uber or they told you that ia the reason for choosing "partner" word? Uber can still call drivers employers or workees withiut using the word "taxi drivers" but they chiose partners because in reality, the realtionship is partnership, not boss to servant relationship. They chose that word to avoid taxes and labor laws. It was when they were being sued and IRS and labor board came after them they wiggled out by claiming drivers are not employees. Prior to that's, drivers were not referred to as partners. |

Most times before a rider will behave rudely to u..they would have accesed your dressing, countenance and the way u speak. If u dress well, speak well and have a good carriage. 98% of riders will respect u. THANK YOU! that's exactly what I've been undercover trying to say |

Rubbiish: @bold just see what u are saying? They paid to get good service not to be the boss Is Sowore a boss to Falana because he hired him to defend him in court? Do u pay to be the boss when u go to hospital for treatment? You people make it sound as if only riders are doing drivers a favour, it is a two way thing. They are both doing each other a favour. The rider needs the driver to get to his destination, just like we all need the services of another to achieve something, like hiring a lawyer to defend me in court doesn't make me his boss. A friend called me last night he was stranded and all drivers were declining his request because of his location distance, when u find yourself in such a situation, only then u will know u are doing no driver a favour but yourself Yes which is why he can fire him at will and yes which is why they need your consent to do anything. You ignored the part where I said there are also responsibilities on their part. |

peeps4u: I agree with your arguement about service being rendered, but there is no boss anywhere. Riders arent bosses to drivers. Services are only rendered and paid for, no bosses anywhere. It is the "boss" mentality that makes some riders want to order drivers around like their employees. That someone renders someone services doesnt make the other a boss, so far the service provider isn't employed under him. I will clarify. I use "boss" lightly and more as a colloquialism because that was the accusation made. What I mean is this is the service industry. Too many assumptions are made of passenger behaviors or beliefs. In the service industry you will get rude people. Expecting otherwise because "na my Moto" is an exercise in futility. Funny thing is I'm sure a lot of the people complaining treat hawkers and other small business owners much worse. At the end of the day, unless it's a particularly egregious crime (which most I read here are not), suck it up and do the job. I've done it for years and it hasn't cost me a thing yet. Quite the opposite actually. |

Chuwaa: I recall your assertion about not eating in foreign cabs nor messing the car with it's repercussions. They know their rights and can never agree to the bolded. Maybe its time we apply same same standards across board. That was how I witnessed a local girl fighting a bolt driver because he didn't allow her change messed diapers in his car. She was bold in claiming right because another driver may have permitted her. The contract is to drive from point A to B, not to own the driver. I wonder why they don't carry such attitudes with airlines, after all they paid for it. . One does not negate the other. Yes, they paid to be the boss from point A to B but even bosses have rules of decorum. It's the reason why bosses shouldn't be slapping employees. They are still in charge but are expected to behave a certain way. This is the service industry. If one cannot humble themselves and give service, they are in the wrong industry. This is the wrong industry for someone who wants to be in charge all the time. |

davit: People like that are rare bro. These people belive that once you accept their request they are in charge till the ride ends That's kind of what they're paying for.... I'll say this again- THE CUSTOMER SERVICE INDUSTRY IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. Before you say people come with an attitude, consider maybe they are a reaction to what people receive coming into the vehicles. I own common mechanic shop (also in the service industry) and I can tell you that even the most agbero-ish person checks themselves when they walk in because of the atmosphere we project. Some come there door like they own the place but when meet with complete professionalism self-correct in 20 seconds. If we react in kind to when they walk in, we'll be having quarrels with people everyday. Had one lady screaming the other day that caught my attention. I just kept repeatedly asking her why was she yelling to please help me understand. Las Las she got quiet for a bit then apologized. |
