HisSexcellency: yea, the AC was not working when i bought the car, he fixed the Ac but after that i noticed that the fan doesnt come on when i turn on the ignition, so i went back to him and he said its on termostat and will only come on when the engine is hot except i want him to connect it directly which he did. I'm going to assume you didn't do research on NL before this happened. Please return your car to factory with a competent tech |

HisSexcellency: please, i am having similar issue with my corolla 2006, bought it earlier this year (9ja use). it vibrates (left front tire side) at times after been driving for awhile especially when in traffic. And also it seems there is something draining my bsttery when the car is packed for more than 2days without warming the engine. what i normally do is to remove one of the battery head at night. It gives a little spark each time i connect it back, my electrician says it could be the car security alarm that's draining the battery. Has a rewire gotten their hands on your car before? |

It's like that on most vehicles. Even some of the land rovers have removable filters.... |

jceesquare: Okay, thanks. Watched several YouTube videos where they fixed cracked windshields with those resins and I was hopeful you guys would have same kit or render such repair works. Yeah, it's just that the one we have is only for chips. There wasn't much of a market we thought. |
Autos › Re: The Misdiagnosed & The Weird At Milex/Carquest/Rad Auto Works by radautoworks(op): 7:01am On Nov 27, 2019 |
Mrford: When another person buy your compressor do you transfer the warranty? Or is it only on the ones you installed by yourself? That's the beauty of us being a Carquest as well as a Milex. As long as kit is purchased you have the warranty. Doesn't matter who installs it. The only time your warranty is void is if they mess something up during installation. |

jceesquare: Is it the resin type? If yes, how much is it... and can it fix cracks from the inside?
The impact on the glass came from outside, but unfortunately the crack is on the inside and has spread across the windshield in just 2 days. It won't work if it's already spread |

Not entirely correct Ma'am, I would do a complete reinstall. Condenser compressor not because I dont know what is wrong, but because I care about my mental health and the nature of the situation. Car comes in with this FRAIL looking non leaking condenser no way am I installing a brand new compressor with a flushed out condenser. Call me any name, condenser like a handkerchief is reusable, but in my space it is a disposable paper towel.
Agree to disagree. You might do it as preference but majority are doing it for the exact reason I stated. When we were doing initial inventory for the store we used advance/Carquest part performance data in the USA and well as Glen's 30+ years of anecdotal evidence. The result, a buttload of compressors and a handful of condensers. Simply put, they are not changed in the USA. In fact, with us or any parts store in the USA, you have no warranty unless you buy the compressor with the full kit and the kit does NOT include a condenser. Push comes to shove, would you warranty the system you do your way for two years? Because we do -and we don't change the condenser unless it's damaged or blocked which it almost never is. As a matter of fact since we opened I don't think we've changed five. Have done at least 150 compressors though.

Well I wouldn't know about the USA, but then again most compressor failures are based on blockages or ultimate mechanical failure of the compressor (compressor don grind).
Worries me sick than tho I can do a perfect installation using new parts, why would I when if it fails in under 6Months I am liable??
Oga Eddee, never buy a used automatic from the shelve, I sell from working vehicles....
Confused by this part. Are you talking about with parts in Nigeria? |
Autos › Re: The Misdiagnosed & The Weird At Milex/Carquest/Rad Auto Works by radautoworks(op): 12:35am On Nov 27, 2019 |
Eddee: Good thing, i keep invoices. An average manual compressor costs between 30k-45k depending on assurance . Usually buy in the 40k range inclusive of waybill from Onitsha or Clegg in Ojuelegba. Condenser costs between 15-17k, mostly Chinese clones. Expansion valves are 3k fixed, again Chinese clones. Freon (I usually get this on my own from ebay or pelican parts, so can't put a cap on the price)
Labour inclusive of AC system vacuuming, 15-20k depending on my kazeem's mood and availability.
Usually costs around 80k give or take, and maybe I've been lucky to have engines with enough hp, so I've never felt those often reported vibrations or subtle loss of power when AC is engaged. In short, I never turn my AC on when I turn off the ignition. Everything is clockwork.
**in all of this, I've not added the welding of the aluminium pipes to ensure it sits properly, I believe thebigkendo has experience in this field Side note, compressors are always going bad in Nigeria because of the crappy freon. Destroys compressors. |

Well I don't know your plug, but I know for sure for landrovers the condenser is the same whether Manual or Auto compressor.... Discharge and Suction hoses are modified to fit the compressor and not the condenser.
Well I might be wrong you know
FML. No plug. There is however a typo. I meant to write original connections but was doing multiple things at once. I did talk about the hoses in the video. I was clearer elsewhere though. radautoworks: Hallmark of people who don't know what they are doing so they change the whole system figuring they'll catch the problem.
Curious how much it cost you for new manual and installation both times. radautoworks: Yes, a condenser change is not necessary when doing a compressor except when there is blockage.
We hardly ever changed condensers in the USA and were puzzled when we got here. Now we know why SMH. |

Terrible indictment on their staff capacity in Calabar. Sometimes they looked and appeared as clueless as I was, good thing I had a lot of folks on here who I could call for remote assistance and diagnosis. Well damn... And that was dealership right? |

PHtradeCenter: A good name is better than gold.
For a long while my cousin had been going through hell with his cars and the only person comfortable with the whole situation was his mechanic(?) Saheed. Based on the good reviews I've seen here about the various CarTalk gurus and the proximity of our location, I convinced him to visit aunty Radu at Rad Auto Works to solve the issues once and for all. This time it was a leaky radiator wahala and problems with his engine valve cover gasket. Situation was solved on time plus they got this Jamaican restaurant called Jamrock which you guys have absolutely got to try out, you don't even have to be adventurous to enjoy your meals, just love good food and you're covered.
My over all experience at Rad Auto Works was top notch and I'll recommend the place to anyone who wants to treat his/her baby right
Ps, Vehicle was a 2008 Toyota Corolla, no pics because it went straight to the workshop while I spent time enjoying my life elsewhere but I've got a pic of what I ate at the restaurant sha and at a nice price Just ran across this again and it made me smile |
