Crime / Re: Kufre Umoh Uwem Jailed For Rape In Aberdeen, Scotland, Months After Wedding by Ralphlauren(m): 3:47pm On Mar 29, 2018
case was'nt a setup.

the dude works with TOTAL.

the first case was reported in 2012 but he was'nt charged to court by the police due to insufficient evidence.

he didnt learn his lesson and he tried the nonsense again with another girl in 2016. the girl reported to the police and the police reopened the 2012 case. both girles testified against him and boom, he was charged to court and he has been convicted.

what i do not understand was how he was able to convince the judge to allow him travel to nigeria for his wedding as he must have been on bail as at December 2017 since he had this case pending in court.

the funds that he should have used to engage a top lawyer to defend him was foolishly spent on a very lavish wedding whilst he claimed 'legal aid' for the case.

i wont be surprised if the wife was unaware of the court case or maybe he downplayed the seriousness of the case to her. she was busy 'liking and 'commenting' on several instagram profiles who featured their wedding. Heck! Even NTA covered their wedding.

they should have just done a very quiet wedding

he wont be deported as he holds a British Passport !

Nigerians and money doubling are like 5 and 6. If no be say I get conscience, I for do another scheme like MMM.

won ti fi se won.

its pure greed. 'investing' 1000 naira and expecting 1m naira in 30days.

the new madness in nigeria is 'sports betting'. the amusing thing is that they do not call it 'gambling'. they refer to it as sports betting and it is silently destroying many lives in nigeria.

the likes of akin alabi are smiling to the bank as the gambling sector in nigeria is largely unregulated

on this driving test issue. my Mrs passed first time. she had never driven in the UK before prior to the commencement of her driving test.

she basically took her time to study the whole routine and listened to her instructor. she took the test using a manual transmission car.

wonlasewonimi:

As a matter of fact, your instructor has a lot to do if you are already a driver in Nigeria. He would have to work with you to get rid of the bad habits before getting you prepared for the proper driving methods. Here, you and mirror will become paddy paddy before you can pass. And, during your test if the examiner should step on the brakes, just forget about passing.

so true. grin grin grin
this was why I failed the first time. I was doing 35mph on a 30mph road. meanwhile, I had just come off a 40mph road and I just assumed the 40mph speed limit applied. the examiner suddenly told me to slow down and he stepped on the breaks. to make matters worse, there was a speed camera on the road so he couldn't afford to take any chances by incurring a speed ticket. this was less than 10mins into the test and guess what, the test still continued for another 30mins even though the examiner knew quite well that i had failed

my second fail was because i hesitated for less than a minute at a set of traffic lights. it was also a junction and i was asked to turn left. so i wasnt sure if i had right of way as there were incoming cars turning left too. I wasn't also sure if the green light applied to cars turning left (basic highway code) grin. i spent less than a minute just to think and assess the situation and that was why i failed. the examiner said that i had caused 'distress' to the driver behind me as he looked at the mirror and he could see that the driver was unhappy that i remained put when the light had turned green when i should have driven off.

Well elucidated and very helpful. My parents are very worried especially my mom, will forward your comment to her to calm her down. I forgot to mention Hes coughing and there's blood in his spit after coughing, the doctor said its becos of the ulcer or chest pain

TAKE HIM TO ANOTHER GOOD HOSPITAL.

Your brother is still very ill.

He should never have been discharged from that hospital.

Take him to another hospital and ask to see a competent doctor.

Why not take him to another hospital since there’s been little improvement ?

Mbok, the thread is by UKMIGRANT and his life as a migrant in the UK. Can the posters please allow the thread to be what it's meant?

If you want to relocate, do so. If otherwise, stay put. Everyone cannot be the same.

@UKMigrant, Can you please update the thread more than it's now? It's your tardiness in updating that's constituting these wahala.

You can’t stop others from commenting.

If he wanted to document his entire migrant story without contributions or opinions or comments (relevant or not ), then he should have gone to the DIARY section of nairaland and created his thread there.

That’s the essence of the DIARY section.

Anything else posted in any other section of nairaland cannot be restricted to a certain person or group of persons.

There will always be some degree of derailing in any thread. That’s the reality of a public forum like nairaland, so just get used to it.

All these unnecessary wailing from your likes will only lead to a mod locking up this thread. undecided

Just joking oo. No trick to it, those examiners are like hawks.. You just have to jot down your instructions and memorise them like a robot. Having said that, I did it 3 times.

Hehehehheheheheeh. Shame dey catch me to comment initially.

I also took the test thrice and passed at my third attempt.

I’m sure I must have spent close to £1500 on lessons if not more.

I agree with you about writing down instructions. It was only when I did so and would ‘revise’ before the start of the lesson did my driving actually improve.

Thanks.

What are the basics required to open such accounts by a new migrant? Any idea?

are you on the electoral roll? this is usually a compulsory requirement to open a current account.

they will have to verify your identity electronically and also verify you are actually UK resident living at the address you claim to be residing. it is also aimed at stopping fraudulent applications.

THIS.

Another trick is to open it online. Then they may tell you to bring your documents to the nearest or just open it outright.

true.

a lot of these banks have really downsized their front office staff.

i doubt if branch account opening still exits.

i know Lloyds banking group and RBS have stopped it. you need to apply online and they send you all the paperwork in the post and you sign and return with your proof of identity, etc.

same applies for business customers (except you are a high networth client) where you have the Relationship Manager visit you personally at your office with the account opening documentation grin

Please can anyone clarify on the best bank to open an account with and the kinda account to go for which will impact more on your credit rating.

Thank you

as long as its a CURRENT account, it will appear on your credit file/credit report and impact your credit rating.

savings account do not have any impact on credit rating and do not appear on your file.

Halifax or Lloyds bank is good (or any of their brands within the Lloyds Banking Group)

Tell me more about interpersonal skills Thats what is making my stuff go missing in the fridge?

UKmigrant

to be fair, the housemates are not that bad.

nigerian food smells - we just don't know it.

my wife usually lights up one of those scented candles after cooking just to get rid of the lingering smell of oporoko, dried fish, iru, etc. grin sometimes she sprays airfresher. so i honestly don't blame the guy asking you to shut the kitchen door. another tip is to always ensure the extractor for the hob is on whilst cooking. have you being where Asian food (curry is being cooked). damn! the smell is no bad that it sticks to the wall, curtains, etc. grin

it is not unusual to feel uncomfortable about sharing your utensils with complete strangers.

fire alarm going off is normal thing na. grin that thing saves lives and homes. again, keep the extractor on the kitchen hob on while cooking and/or the kitchen window slightly open.

feel free to pop a note on the fridge's door asking people not to eat or drink what does not belong to them.

regarding your washing - set a timer or reminder to get it out from the machine.

at least you do not have flatmates smoking skunk or listening to reggae music at 10pm. grin

Madam d madam, u too sure. Thanks for the reply. Quite interesting saw you on the other thread and I have really learnt from you and advise given.

That renewal thingy is one major stuff I have been thinking about but God dey sha. Make I take it one step at a time.

Funnily also not thinking of moving to scotland anymore. Trying to decide on birmingham or someplace else *maybe newcastle or northern part sha.

Suggestions !!!! I am particular about low cost of living in England and anywhere dre r either construction or project mgt jobs.

what visa are you on? not sure but I thought I saw tier 2 somewhere. in that case, are you not already with an employer?

as per location, I will suggest you keep an open mind and NOT rule out any part of the country especially since you are job hunting. the biggest mistake a lot of people make is 'I cant live here', 'I cant live there' and then they choose to remain in some obscure part of the country where the jobs available is such areas are call centres and care jobs.

keep an open mind regarding locatioon. apply for jobs all around the country, go for interviews and when you get that job with decent pay and then move.

Thanks for the information you shared, imconfused.

I'm also living in Scotland, and I have my own breakdown of my monthly salary. However, I won't share because too many people on Nairaland know me personally.

I've only been here a few years (Tier 2 work) and I'm still in the renting phase. I've been advised to get mortgage asap too, but I'd rather wait until when/if I get my ILR.

I've never used any of these. I have rich, trusted friends who do money transfer as a business. So I pay them pounds here and they pay the Naira equivalent to my Nigerian accounts after we agree the exchange rate.

PS, I really hope this thread doesn't get derailed like the one done by Ukmigant. I was following that one but had to unfollow. sad

Stop saying people derailed the other thread. undecided

Banter keeps a thread flowing and also encourages others to chip in their thoughts.

you cannot claim that with all the 'derailing', you have not learnt one or two things or you weren't entertained. relax and stop taking life too seriously. The fact that you unfollowed the thread does not have any impact on anyone. . . . nobody notices when you follow or unfollow a thread.

meanwhile, waiting till you get ILR before jumping on the property market is another mistake people make. many people that should have become home owners when things were 'rosy' for them failed to do so all because they get procrastinating - 'I will wait till I get ILR', 'I will wait till I get British passport'.
forgetting that the prices of homes are increasing every year, interest rates are not guaranteed to remain low forever, etc.

chinese students on student visa are buying houses and you are here waiting for ILR.
If you have the funds for your deposit, you are legal in this country and you have a good credit history, look for a house and buy.

so you know, home ownership also helps your ILR application. one of the questions asked in the form is 'if you own your home in the UK'.
home ownership proves you have strong ties to the country and you've also invested in the country.

God forbid you fail to renew your visa, then you simply hand over the house to an estate agency and rent it out. you will still get a decent profit
after deducting your mortgage/tax/fees, etc. one fact remains is that you own a home in the UK. you can choose to sell it off at old age or rely on the rental income at old age.

shop around for one bedroom or studio flat. it will cost you an extra £200 (max) per month in outgoings but at least you have your space to yourself.

a studio flat (sometimes called bedsit) will suit someone like you (working professional trying to save as much as possible) just fine.

another option is to look for a 2bed+2bathroom apartment and take the tenancy with a colleague. the only problem is that one party might decide to leave at any time and the other party will have to either end the tenancy or look for replacement flatmate

Why not send to a state school (free), and pay for private tuition afterwards?

The plan is private nursery then to state primary school (we are within the catchment area of one of the best state funded primary schools) and then private secondary (high) school.

What about all the Ralph Lauren's in your cupboard? All before or after savings?

I have a vacation at least once a year and that vacation usually includes a trip to US.

I buy all my “designer” outfit from the US (Ralph, tommy, etc) because it’s cheaper.

I’m not a person that stuck on a budget. I’m usually more financially disciplined when I’m saving towards a goal (maybe buying a house, etc). Apart from that, I couldn’t care less if the money for clothes, etc comes direct from my monthly pay cheque or savings.
