Not straightforward making a claim if you used PayPal. More info here https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/PayPal-Section75/

That's the point I'm trying to make.

Section 75 doesn't fix everything.

My purchase was covered under section 75 but PayPal declined the claim undecided

Rule 1 -:

- Always read and understand any contract, because when you sign it, it's legally binding
- Never sign a contract under duress/desperation

Way 4ward -:

Speak to your estate agent and try renegotiating payment terms.......

One of two things would happen, it's either you get a section 21 or they renegotiate.........

In the interim, apply for a credit card, that would give you a breaching limit ( with 3 months minimum interest free period)..........

Why are you like this? cheesy

She's saying she can't afford 3 months rent upfront and you are advising her to get a money transfer card with 3 months interest free period and use that to pay for her rent ?

So what happens after 3 months when she can't pay the outstanding balance on the credit card ? Is that not how people are sucked into debt?

I come in peace. Happy new year bro wink

After 8months, I'm coming back to thank Ralph Lauren again. I followed your tips bumper to bumper. Did a couple of Schengen travels (9 countries in total). I didn't spend up to 1,000 pounds in all (flights and hotels).

Then I applied for the US visa and..... Boom. I got it. Visa officer legit asked if I had travelled internationally since I came to the UK and I remembered what Ralphlauren said about touring Europe. Boldly told him I've gone to Santorini, Germany,Italy, Spain, France, Poland...... Etc etc. Dude just told me the golden words straight up.

So thanks again Ralphlauren.

Excellent news. grin

You're most welcome cheesy

Would your debit card/cash offer you, section 75 protection....... wink

Have you actually tried claiming this on a purchase?

Its not as "straightforward" as you make it sound. undecided

Speaking based on my experience with amex, you will have to make reasonable attempts at resolving this issue with the retailer and have evidence to back this up before submitting a claim to the credit card company. They will then to their investigation, etc before they decide whether or not to honour your claim.

I personally tried to make a claim a defective device I paid for using PayPal. Guess what? The claim was rejected. This is a payment company that offers buyers' protection angry

The only thing I can personally vouch for based on my experience with amex is their fraud protection. My card was used for a fraudulent purchase and I didn't notice it till almost a year later whilst looking through my statement. I contacted amex and within a week, I was refunded.

Even if her goal is to relocate, I believe there are ways to leverage your UK credit history to get better credit in the US or EU.
Why not get a CC, use it for regular shopping and just setup direct debit to pay it off?

You guys need to stop pitching credit card.

You can survive in the UK and live a very comfortable life without them.

Hello

Please I have just applied for a visit visa for my mum, I am her sponsor and we attached all relevant documents.

She was denied based on her employment
They stated although she is sponsored they don’t believe she received the quoted amount as salary, her bank statement was not included. Could this be the reason why? We didn’t include her bank statement because I’m her sponsor and we felt it was not required.

She also receives pension and I was just wondering how to go about reapplying

For a single pensioner, what ties can one have with Nigeria.

Her current employment is commission based hence salary varies. We quoted highest possible figure although it is not the same every month. What can we do regarding this ?

Please I seek assistance with the above

@justwie

Reapply. Include her bank statement and that of whoever is sponsoring the trip.

Hello guys, after officially sending my resignation and sighting issues of bullying, harassment and threat by the company, I got this mail from the MD who is the husband of the madam. I have gone through the contract over again and the only clause that talks about 4 weeks notice prior to resignation is if the employee has passed the 3 months probation and I am only 2 months old with the company.

How should I respond?

Refer them to the section of your contract that relates to the probationary period. State clearly the date you started the job and let them know you are still within the 3 months probation.

Go ahead and state clearly all your allegations against them. Itemise each one and if possible state the dates/period they occurred.

If you've not sent him this screenshot from your contract, I'll advice you do so.

Thanks

If you've not handed your notice of resignation, I'll suggest you do it ASAP.

Send it via email, quoting the notice period as stipulated on your contract and clearly state your last working day.

If they do not pay you your wages after you leave, please report them to the home office.

That company must be moving mad.

Let them know two can play the home office game and they are the ones that will be at the losing end big time.

You have absolutely nothing to lose - you are off to a new employer/sponsor cheesy

Hi guys, I posted sometime ago (other miniker) about issues with my company because I wasn't able to drive and how they threaten to sack me at any slight instance including feeding a dog thrice instead of twice. It hasn't been easy for me. I have been trekking in the winter to see clients and never complained yet my company never cease to threaten me of sack for the most trivial of issues. They constantly remind me that they are doing me a favor by keeping me cos I wld have been long gone to my country the moment they noticed I cldnt drive. They refused to renew my ID card and didn't give me the training they give to other staff.

I was told by my South African colleague that the company wants to chase me and I should find a new sponsor before I am chased out. Luckily for me, I got a new sponsor and I have a new COS. I have also applied to update my Visa using priority option.

My company sent me a mail that they have booked me ahead for work till the new year. I plan to start at my new place before the Christmas. I responded that they should only book me for a week cos I will be stopping after a week. My contract states that both parties should give at least a 1 week notice before contract termination.

I was told to report to the office and on getting there I laid all my concerns. I have been living in an hotel with my wife and two kids for close to 2 months and the company refused to stand as a guarantor for me to get a house. I also made other concerns. They said its non of their business if my kids are registered with a GP or not or if I have a place as long as I work with them. I maintained my stance that I want to quit but was told I must work for a month before quiting or forfeit the pay for the days I have worked. I said I wasn't going to work and the madam opened the door and asked me to get out. I got up and left.

Later in the day, the husband mailed me that I am breaching my contract that I must work 1 month or they will report me to home office and I will have a limit to stay in the UK. I didn't reply his mail but I have a copy of the contract that states other wise.

Any advice for me guys?

Respond to his email with a scanned copy of your contract with emphasis on the 1 week notice period.

Tell them you will report them to the home office for acts of modern day slavery, non adherence to labour laws, bullying (constantly threatening you with job loss is workplace bullying) and harassment and ask home office to revoke their license.

Feel free to go ahead with your threat and watch home office enforcement officials show up at their office unannounced and launch a full blown investigation.

Home Office can decide to suspend their licence pending the outcome of their investigation.

If seems all these mushrooms agencies issuing COS do not know they can lose their license just with one email from an employee they've maltreated.

Dear elders I have been an ardent reader of this great resource and would like to thank everyone here for their contributions, support and advise to one another. This shows Nigerians are great people.
My wife came into the UK in January for her Masters degree Programme and I joined her with my younger kids in April. We all collected our BRPs when we got here.
In August, my 19years old daughter was issued a dependent visa on health grounds to join us. I picked up her visa without a BRP letter inside. I was worried but when I sent a letter to UKVI, they said it was because her visa was less than 6months. I just left everything and decided to come here to resolve this.
The problem now is that she does not have a BRP and visa on her passport stated its a dependent visa valid till 22/08/2022 to 15/02/2022. The visa will expire in February 2023 while the BRP of other members of the family will expire in May 2023.
How do we extend her own visa to May 2023.
Elders, please advise.
Once again, thank you all.

You might need to involve an immigration lawyer and go down the route of discretionary leave to remain on health grounds.

19 year old is an adult and she should be on her own immigration route and not as a dependant.

Ok I said I wasn’t going to comment again but I think you have the wrong end of the stick here and are completely missing the message I was trying to convey.

When I posted my comment about the professional Accountancy bodies, I listed a few that I could remember off the top of my head. The fact that I didn’t mention CIPFA, CiMA etc is not a slight on those qualifications. You can check the timeline of my post to see that I already made the comment before you disclosed your CIMA qualification.

Secondly, most professional accountancy bodies require intending members to achieve a minimum of 3 years practical experience in UK Taxation (if following the tax advisor career route) before allowing them to complete complex tax returns hence my comment about needing more than 2 years UK tax experience to acquire the skill-set required for this line of work. Again this was not a dig at you or any new immigrants.

Thirdly, I’m not a Bros. I still stand by my original advice, people should do their DD before engaging the services of any accountant.

Madam, rest undecided

Afternoon Elders,

Is claim for help with health costs (NHS) for Optical Lens, Dental and others part of public fund? I got to know that I can get NHS Certificates for discount payments for my glasses and that of my children.

I also received a mail from my children’s school on Scottish child payment. I guess this will be from public fund. Help clarify too.

Finally, are those on PSW allowed to benefit from public funds?

Thanks

The bolded applies to just children. If you are claiming discount on dental treatment and prescription glasses, it's 100 percent public forms. It's even clear whilst completing the applicable forms.

Scottish child payment is also public funds. No, those on post study cannot claim public funds.

Why the fascination and desperation about claiming public funds?? As someone as rightly pointed out, these benefits are for the most vulnerable in the society.

Genuine advice: work on building your career and earning capacity rather than chasing stipends in the name of public funds.

I'm liking this. This is a strategy I recently decided to adopt - I mean the job changing.
I am naturally very "loyal" and also not necessarily motivated by money, I have taken pay cuts to be in a role that I prefered... If I enjoy my work and I like the culture and I'm respected, then I can stay put for a long while in one company.

Recently I got a new manager at work and the dude who at the point knew little about the work/product started questioning my work and made some very unjustified disparaging remarks...I was quite shocked. I always put in my best and never in my whole life has my output been unsatisfactory. I just imagined that this human can wake up and give me a bad performance review and I'll be asked to leave., this is how they will stain my white .. undecided

That weekend, I edited my CV (and kept updating/tweaking it almost weekly ) and started some courses I had been procrastinating. Within a month I had a number of interviews scheduled and accepted an offer (Lesson here for me is that once you have that UK experience you lacked initially, you will become more appealing in the market, so for those saying sponsorship limits you to one employer...I say only if you let it)

Also I quietly quit - I never take my laptop home again....I used to come in up to 30mins before official time and stay late to finish up sometimes....now I walk in like other ppl by 9 or 9.15 sef and 4.50pm I pack my bag...no time tongue
I have never called in sick...I plan to be sick next week or upper, afterall everyone is coughing amd sneezing lipsrsealed

I realised that I achieved a lot in 6 weeks because I was angry, now I want that to be my default status - always "angry" and looking for the next best thing and putting needs first.

If I may ask, why did you move to a lower band?

This right here is the key to success in this country grin Na anger for having to queue to view a yeye flat to rent and still get turned down by the landlord that pushed me to buy my first home in this country.

Hello guys. I have a serious issue. I arrived the UK few weeks ago. My employer wanted to give me the company car today for visiting clients and told a south African guy to accompany me to test my driving. It was quite different from the manual car i drove in naija and I had issues putting it in gear one. The guy just looked at me for close to ten minutes as I tried to put it in gear one in the roads in and afterwards he shouted on me to come down tgat that he is going to report me to the office that I can't drive. He drove to the office and worked in to discuss with the boss. My boss didn't wait to hear from me and said I have to go back to my country since I can't drive. I insisted I can drive. She said she can't enter the car to test my driving but my manager convinced her to and joined at the back. She however explained how to put it in gear one and I drove them for a short distance.

She said I should come and drive her husband round the city tomorrow to prove my driving prowess. She insisted i get a car immediately and said my case will be determined tomorrow.

I heard the SA guy is bringing his sister-in-law to the company. Don't know what to think right now or what to say to them tomorrow. I need advice

Hand on heart. Are you really sure you can drive? Is driving a major requirement for the job?

I suggest you familiarise yourself with the UK highway code and watch videos on YouTube on how to drive on UK roads.

I don't know where you're based. But what I posted is the rules in Scotland

Its so bad that 12months minimum or 6 months minimum tenancy agreement is illegal. Tenants are on a monthly rolling contract.

Is it worth it being a landlord these days. Read somewhere Scotland is preparing or already has prepared an eviction ban law to prevent landlord from evicting tenants up to march next year because of the cost of living crisis. Wales is also towing same line.

Its in force already.

I was planning to increase the rent early this month (Scotland you need to give tenants 3 months advance notice and you can only increase the rent once every 12 months). That plan is dead in the water now. grin

I heard the ban is in place still march next year. I won't put it past nicola sturgeon to extend the ban. A ban is also in place for evictions. Thank goodness I have very good tenants and I use a reputable managing/letting agency.

Still not stopping from buying another "buy to let". I'm currently in the market looking for the next ideal property grin
