Thanks for your response but it is local childminder I am looking for. I can only afford £600 a month. I am just asking to know how much others pay

a 'local childminder' will not accept £600 per month to look after 3 kids 7am -7pm, 5 days a weeks and two Saturdays a month. NEVER.

what you are looking for is someone undocumented or here on visiting visa. even with that, you will be lucky to find one on these terms.

I believe you mean an au pair and not a nanny?

A nanny is the expensive option which would cost over £1k pcm or is it the agency type nanny cum aupair? The ones you pay per week?

Everything depends on your bargaining power I believe,I had one Nigerian nanny from an agency and I regretted it.

I was paying £1500 ,then I was paying holiday bonus, she had special food which we supplied and we also paid for her toiletries etc

She worked 5 days a week 8-6:30 and had weekends off.She did not cook, only job she did was clean her room, kids room and her bathroom, fold their laundry(we ironed), dress the kids make sure they had their meals & bathe them.

She was basically looking after the younger child as we placed the older one in nursery 4 times a week.

She was overtly familiar and kept on reminding me that she was a bank manager in Nigeria years ago,she was a big woman etc,I asked her how that was relevant to this job?

She was also very critical of the way we raised our children and wanted us to call her mama.

She never took the kids to the park or did any extra curricular activities with them, and she was constantly complaining.

If we came home and cooked food late she would complain that she was hungry..we always told her all the food was at her disposal but she preferred to eat what I cooked.

She once mistakenly knocked my daughter down and then blamed her for being in her way.

She scratched my daughter's face and blamed me for not buying hand creme to soften her nails.

She blamed my then 3 year old for farting in her face on purpose but she bent him over to wash his bum and somehow he farted but she said he did it on purpose.

This is a shortened version.I employed this Nigerian nanny who came highly recommended by the agency cos I thought it would aid my children in learning my local language.

We fired her after she tried to accuse my husband and I of something we did not do, something she clearly did but refused to tell the truth.

My children hated her but we were desperate cos of our jobs.I regret every second of it and will never make the mistake of sacrificing the well being of my children again just to make a living.

I have a friend who shipped a relative from Nigeria to nanny for her,the woman called police for them and said they took her documents and enslaved her..this woman is in her 40s.

Some people have good experiences though.

Nowadays I pay £1100 pcm for 4 days in nursery then breakfast and after school club £400pcm.
Extracurriculars cost about £300-400pcm

Once the younger one turns three, nursery fee will come down to about £700.

I'm happier with nursery for now because I have peace of mind,I'm happy to spend the money and have peace. The risk of leaving my most precious possession in the hands of just.anybody is too scary.I no dey do again.

DH and I have had to work round each other. He is more flexible thankfully as I cannot pick and choose my shifts at will.

I also spend loads to bring in grandparents from Nigeria but then again I have peace of mind.

If you have CCTV at home, maybe you can employ an aupair I don't know but you will have to tell.her there are cameras installed.I think they're the ones in the price range you mentioned,I may be wrong.

3 children is a lot but it depends on their ages.If 3 and above, check the 30 free hours entitlement.
If less than 3,you'll need to cough up the cash and work with partner/husband or not work at all till they're older.

Me I prefer to work and spend all my salary on nursery just to preserve my sanity, besides having a leg in the career door is very necessary for every woman.

Good luck.

people tend to shy away from talking about their childcare challenges in the UK. it is refreshing to read your post and i really appreciate your honesty with the figures you've quoted as well as your experience with the nanny. i think a lot of people (especially the single folks) need to be more aware of the cost of childcare, so they can strategise before having babies.

at a stage i was paying £2,100 a month for having two kids fulltime (monday to friday) in the nursery. the fees only dropped slighly to around £1800 when the free nursery hours kicked in. the fees is inclusive of everything - feeding (breakfast, lunch and 'dinner') as well as nappies and wipes. some nurseries even take babies from birth.

we did consider the nanny option but when we calculated the costs (including pension and sick pay), cost of feeding the nanny, heating costs when she's home with the kids, etc, we settled for the nursery option.

childminders are no better. they also demand holiday pay and sick pay. meanwhile, whilst they are on holiday, it is your responsibility to arrange and pay for alternative child care.

the choice of employing someone undocumented or here on visiting visa was not even an option. there are too many stories these days of such people turning around to claim asylum based on slavery. slavery in the sense that you are paying them below minimum wage and capitalising on their vulnerability to get cheap childcare. it has put a lot of people in big trouble as it leads to a full police investigation/court case which in most cases (except for divine intercvention), a criminal conviction is almost guaranteed. besides, such people are known to be unreliable and have been known to cause injury to kids which have led to child abuse investigations.

the choice of being a non-working mum wasn't an option for my wife. like you, she is of the opinion that having a leg in the career door is very necessary for every woman and besides nursery fees is just a phase - by age 4-5, the kids are off to primary school and the financial cost reduce.

i won't trade the sanity we get from using a nursery for childcare for anything.

Sad, but the moral of the story is: If you're a married man, get yourself a real job that pays your bills (DJ no be work) and don't leave your wife to bear most of the responsibilities.

finally, a very sensible comment.

how come there is nobody asking what led to the marital issues?

was he violent to his wife? did he beat her? did he cause injury to her or their kids?

was he hooked on drugs, alcohol or gambling?

was he having extra marital affairs?

was he financially responsible? did he take care of his responsibilities as the man of the house or did he leave his wife to bear all/the bulk of the family expenses?

it takes a lot for a woman to move out from her marital home with her kids on TWO separate occasions. his wife must have been super frustrated and tired of living with him.

- Leasehold

Run like fire is burning your ass...........

Another reason why i like the Scots.

Leasehold titles do not exist in Scotland unlike in England where there are so many properties with leasehold titles.

At Scotland, it's freehold only irrespective of the type of property or the age of the property.

I need help on tips....

1. Tenancy Set-Up Fee
£330 incl. VAT for one tenant
£78 incl. VAT for each additional tenant

2. Guarantor Referencing and Deed of Guarantee Fee
£78 incl. VAT for each guarantor required

3. Check-In fee £120 including VAT for a studio property + £10 per additional bedroom.

4. End of Tenancy Fees: Extension Set-Up Fee £188.80 incl. VAT

5. Change of Sharer Fee
£330 incl. VAT
£78 incl. VAT for each additional tenant

6. Landlord Reference Fee
£30 incl. VAT per reference requested

Shocking!!!

This is one of the many reasons I like the Scottish government. Such fees are banned in Scotland.

PayPal credit has a high threshold for acceptability. It's just as stringent as American express.

If you are looking for your first credit card with offers like 24 months interest free on purchases, your best bet is to check one of the comparison sites such as money supermarket.com. All you have to do is select the type of offer you want, enter your details and a soft search will be conducted on your credit file. You will be shown a list of credit card providers as well as your chances of approval for each card.

This way you know the card provider that's most likely to accept your application and it saves you applying randomly with different credit card providers and getting rejected.

My elders I greet you, your boy needs your experienced counsel.
I'm on a Tier 2 visa, I'm aware I'm allowed to do extra jobs, or so I believe. So an opportunity to earn some extra cash with my spare time has propped up. I can't remember, but I think I've read somewhere that if I have to take up additional jobs then I have to inform my current employer/sponsor, don't remember where I read this.
The issue now is that those that want to connect me with the extra job are advising me not to mention it to my line manager, they say I won't get into any trouble as I'm not doing anything illegal. They say informing my line manager will only make them start looking for faults which they can blame on the fatigue resulting from overworking myself.
What's your take guys? I'm tempted by the extra cash, but not too comfortable with informing my line manager, but I want to be sure I won't get into any trouble if I don't inform my line manager.

how long have you worked with your current employer? less than a year or more?

are you still on probation or have you been confirmed?

have you done any quarterly or yearly performance reviews? what has the feedback been?

you are on a tier 2 visa - piss off your sponsor (employer) and they can very easily get rid of you.

rather than taking up another job elsewhere, why not speak to your manager and see if you can work overtime/longer hours.

the last thing you want is them blaming any dip in performance or errors to your additional job

i used to think there were no consequences with not paying tv license (and getting caught) until i met someone whose application for UK citizrnship was denied over the same issue under the 'character test' for citizenship applications.

she has to wait for another 12 months before she can apply again for UK citizenship and there is no guarantee that her application will be granted. she was caught out (i think she opened the door in error) and accepted to pay the fine without going to court.

tv license funds the BBC. the BBC is an institution the Brits are very proud of, so the home office considers not paying the fee a grave offence as the TV license funds the BBC. the case worker has the discretion to refuse applications over 'convictions' from not paying the license.

If you are still under any sort of migrant visa including ILR and you are chasing UK citizenship, I will suggest just paying the £140 yearly fee.

Na wa oo and here I am being denied for vanquis CC after doing a soft search both online and via the telephone. Will just settle for building credit history through paying my direct debit jare.

I believe that own should also have a great impact right?

you've not been resident in the UK for long, so lenders will access you as being too risky for credit facilities.

do you have a current account? if yes, use the account well (make sure its regularly funded with your salary payments/decent sums) for at least 6 months and then approach your bank for an overdraft of £200 -£300 (preferably in branch - ask to speak to a Relationship manager). use the overdraft every now and then. this is another easy way of building your credit history.

it is easier to obtain an overdraft than a credit card

building one's credit history/file takes time and patience and sometimes careful planning.

direct debit does not help build your credit history.

whch of the amex cards are you applying for? is it one of the platinum cards? the platinum card, gold card, etc have stricter eligibility criteria.

my application was straight forward (applied online) and I wasn't asked for additional info.

give it another 6 months and try again

Funny thing is Amex won't give me one. I have tried so many times...

hmmm. are you sure its not something to do with your postcode or are you declaring the 'minimum wage' which we contractors pay ourselves as your annual salary? amex has a high threshold for acceptance compared to other cards - usually declared earnings, excellent credit history and address history.

i have had the BA amex for a while now and i honestly think its one of the best CC cards out there. their reward scheme has been fab as family vacations have been cheaper. with 10k annual spend on the black card, you get 2 for 1 voucher to travel to almost any destination in the world (depending on seat availability). with the blue card, its 20k annual spend. the airmiles too are generous and I have been able to book reward flights.

started with about £3400 limit and i am currently on around £14k.

my first CC was a capital one card with a limit of £200 Which i used for 3 months before cutting up the card but leaving the account open with no further use and then calling them about a year later to close the account. i did this to build my credit history and it worked.

i saw the argument between justwise and lexus (it think) on the fees that landlords charge on properties sourced on gumtree.

i am with justwise on this one. during my renting days, i got the lease (for a whole house/apartment) directly from the landlord and I never paid a DIME for referencing, credit check or any other nonsense. this was both in England and Scotland. all i paid upfront was a month's deposit. i either get a letter from the recruitment agency confirming that i am employed or i give the landlord their details to contact them.

p.s. in scotland, agency fees were scrapped by the government .

I agree @ the bolded, I am not even looking for any financial compensation, haven't been charged for anything but they were not even being considerate and remorseful. And also want them to learn that BRP IS the official record for staying in the country.

If verification was important, I believe they could have registered me then say, we will still need our practise manager to ascertain if this is enough not rejecting me more than 3ce without proffering a solution.

is this GP practice in Scotland by any chance? angry angry

one Scottish GP tried the same stunt with a family friend of mine.

in his own case, the GP practice had a separate form(which they had prepared/designed themselves) asking for immigrants (non-UK and EU residents) bring a letter from his employer or a letter from his accountant (if self employed) before he and his family can get registered at the GP practice.

this is after showing them passport, driver's licence and their BRP cards not forgetting the fact that the entire family had paid the NHS fee.

i was furious when he told me as i saw it as nothing but balant racism. since when did proof of employment become a requirement to access healthcare services in the UK? meanwhile, this my friend is on the upper tax bracket, resident in UK for 4years+, pays NI and doesn't claim any benefits.

we went together on the nhs website and we were able to get the email address for the local health board and I helped him in drafting a strongly worded complaint letter quoting several sections of the equality act and asking them to explain why LEGAL UK residents are being treated separately from the UK/EU citizens and also why they have been denied access to healthcare. he also attached a copy of the form he as given by the GP practice.

the complaint was taken so seriously by the health board and it was escalated to the nhs head for scotland. my friend got a letter of apology and by the time his wife went to register, they had stopped handing out the racist registration form and stopped their foolish requirement of asking for proof of employment for immigrants.

he is currently registered at that same practice and he tells me he and his family is treated very nicely whenever they have to go there to see a doctor.

a masters degree in project management will not get you anywhere in the UK.

what really counts is the prince 2 certification.

getting a company to sponsor you as a project manager trainee or whatever is going to be hard but not impossible.

raising £7K school fees from part time is going to be extremely difficult but not impossible.

look towards Australia or Canada for your MSc. Compared to the UK, It is much easier to obtain permanent residence in these two countries via the study route

Yes you get the odd permies with attitude based on the fact that they have an idea of the contractor rates. Seasoned contractors have been naturally designed to overlook those sort of oloshis. They don't have the liver to go contracting but will still be envious.
The thing is I don't need any 360 degrees feedback or one to ones or appraisals from anybody. So, whatever attempt is dead on arrival.

the appraisals, one-on-ones, performance matrix and what not is one thing is sure do NOT miss about perm job.

i once worked with an organisation that insisted on the one-on-ones for their contractors. we kept telling them that this sh1t isn't for contractors and they were going to put us into trouble with HMRC as their actions would technically meant we weren't self employed.

their excuse was the one-on-ones were just their way of 'checking up on contractors to ensure they were okay, enjoying their role and if there was any support the organisation could offer'. BULLSH1T . grin did the job for a few months and left for somewhere else.

The beauty of contracting...no need to get involved in that shyte...pay me my cheque and put some respeck on it.

exactly.

the only time i have ever faced any form of racism at the work place was whilst i was working as a perm staff many years ago. my manager made a racist comment towards me (to the hearing of the entire team), he realised his slip and immediately went on his knees pleading and begging me to forgive him. serious begging - the guy was literally red in the face and almost shitting on his pants. he knew if I reported to HR, he was gone. meanwhile, I was the only black person in the entire team.

i forgave him (as a good Christian cheesy) and after that incident, till I left the company, he was super nice to me. I got the hours/flexibility I wanted without any objection whatsoever from him. appraisals, etc were always A+ grin

I didn't see any point making a big hooha out of the whole issue because I was just starting out professionally post Uni and I needed the job at the time especially for the work experience/exposure and I knew it was a stepping stone. sometimes whilst climbing up the ladder, we need to stoop low, take some shyte, ignore and move on.

with contracting, its been a good ride. I have had the odd 2 or 3 contracts where I have gotten the 'jealousy attitude' from the odd a$$hole who is a perm staff just because they know i am earning much more than them but honestly, i do not care - if they pained, they can tender their resignation letter and jump into the contracting market. I just ignore such individuals.

Yes o. Guys made shitload from RBS but they flooded the market with contractors making it tough to get roles. It's part of the reason PM roles became useless (my opinion sha).

Fatima04's effort is commendable most guys give up easily. I remember when I started, I must have gone for like 100 interviews. I messed up some because I was using the same phone. A recruiter could call whilst I was on the bus and I answered and started misyarning.

So I got the trick to get a burner phone... Any call that I receive through that I know it's for work... And sometimes I let them drop voicemail so I go to quiet area to deal with them. There is always the odd recruiter that would take interest in you and give you the chance you need.

I agree @ PM roles.

Anthing PM related - Project manager oh, PMO analyst oh, PMO support oh, blah blah are getting quite hard to come by these days. at its peak, PMO Analyst roles (glorified admin assistant in my own opinion) grin were cashing as much as £300 -£500 a day but now the roles are being advertised for as low as £150-£200 and those paying well are usually domain specific. the Project Manager roles these days come with very stringent requirements

my trick with them recruiters is to allow their call ring to voicemail. most times they leave a voicemail and/or a follow up email asking me to contact them. this gives me time to prepare before returning their call.
