Mutuwa: Excerpt
After having so much trouble with her husband a woman decided She had had enough and wanted to quit. She went to the village to visit her mother to inform her of her decision.
After much complaining, she told her mum how she wished she had met someone like her dad, as her dad was caring and sweet and they had such a happy marriage.
The mum listened to everything she had to say, expecting her mum to start lecturing her about marriage this and marriage that. The mum told her to go rest since she had traveled a long distance.
''Go and rest my child'', she said ''tomorrow we talk.''
Next morning, when she got up she noticed her mum was up already and tidying up the house for the day. The mum said, please can you help me deliver these crates of egg to my friend on the other side of town while I prepare breakfast for your dad.
The eggs are very fragile so please do be careful. The woman got dressed and carried the crates to run the errand.
Upon her return, "Well", asked her mum,"Did you see the new bridge that was commissioned last week? Did you notice that the roads across the river has now been tarred? So you mean you also did not see the new shopping mall in the city centre?
The woman was embarrassed, and confessed that she had observed nothing. Her only concern had been not to break the eggs that the mum asked her to deliver safely.
"Then go back and observe the marvels of the town", said her mum.
Relieved from the burden of the crates of eggs, she returned to explore the town, this time observing the newly commissioned bridge, the new tarred road across the river and the beautiful shopping mall her mum had told her about.
When she returned she related in excitement everything she had seen. "Well, there is only one piece of advice I can give you", her mum said:
"The secret to a successful marriage is to see all the beauty of the person you have married rather than focus on just one fault the person has.
You focused so long on the crates of eggs I gave you that you forgot to look around and marvel at the best of what was around you."
This woman went home with her bags as a new person. Even though her husband did not change, she was able to change her perspective and pay more attention to the good things he was doing.
Marriage is beautiful when beauty is looked for and cultivated. Avoid mistakes when you can. Gudmorning. |

Times without number, over and over again, I have come across so many threads that listed mistakes ladies make when getting married. Unfortunately, those possible mistakes most young men make when getting married have been left out, or should I say neglected? I'm not a marriage counsellor, neither am I a relationship expert. This thread was inspired by careful observations and experiences that some peeps who I know have gone through. Here they are: 1. Marrying A Woman With No Professional or Business Skill:- This mistake is very fatal; that's why it tops the list. Just as no lady wants to marry a guy who has no skill and is jobless, that's how men should avoid marrying a lady who does nothing, has no professional or business skill, not into any trade and not schooling. I wonder what such a lady would be coming to do in the marriage. What would she be bringing? Yes, a man is the bread winner of the family but as he goes out to win the bread, the woman should also go out to win the akara, because when both are mixed together, it makes more sense. 2. Marrying A Cheap Girl:- If you marry a runs girl you met at the club, or a girl you entice with money to bleep, then you are in for it. Who told you that the leopard changes skin? When she doesn't get what she expects, she would bleep other buoyant men for money. Remember the proverb 'He who brings in ant-ridden woods into his house should not complain when lizards pay him visit. 3. Marrying That Superficial Material Girl Who Does Nothing:- She uses a costly phone, wears designer clothes, wears expensive Colombian hair , carries an ipad always, drinks Andre, etc but her family lives in a zinc house. Bros, abeg run. Have you ever reasoned how she acquired all that? She's most likely a har.lot!!! 4. Marrying A Known Cheater:- If you date a girl and she cheats on you of which you are aware of and you still go ahead to marry her, you are no better than the village idi.ot! 5. Marrying A Nymph Who Cannot Hold Herself While You Are Away:- If you try this, someone could be bangin' your wife while you are away at that business conference. You should as well be looking for a very strong rope to hang yourself if you are planning to tie the knot with such a woman. 6. Marrying 'The Girl' Instead of 'The Woman':- Some females are just so childish. A lady who sulks for days whenever both of you have a minor argument is not mature emotionally. A real woman should be able to express her feelings whenever it is necessary to do so. 7. Marrying A 'Spend It All' Lady:- A lady who cannot help her man to save and plan is not worth it. She will eat your future up in the long run and in no time too. One day, she go use your pikin Waec fee take buy Peruvian hair Last Bullet: Any girl wen you buy Z30 for on her birthday, when e reach your turn, she come buy 2 boxers and 1 singlet, make you no ever marry am This thread is dedicated to LaurelP, tosyne2much, Rapsainot. These guys keep it real in the romance section. Before I forget, and Marieolae too; I have forgiven her all her sins. Good morning everyone... |

Whenever we talk of abolishing this social menace called okada, someone just spring up to remind us that the rate of robbers and crime will increase as if these people have not been doing something before they joined the okada business; as if they were born with bikes from their mothers' wombs. If you don't observe closely, you won't notice the hazard these bikes cause on our roads. The truth is: civilized societies have all done away with bikes as means of transportation!!! joywendy: did u read my post?
correct me if am wrong. do you get a certificate from a traditional marriage?
thanks for the correction and you too alexchoce
Why would the English man do his wedding in the African way when he isn't African? Are we not the ones who want do it their way?
if you choose to do a trad wedding and then getting a certificate, fine!
it's better than coming here to rant that the white wedding is useless, no one is focusing you people to do one.
we are as africans are not yet independent we still depend alot on the west than ourselves am not saying because of this we should abandon our culture no.
we are the roots of our own problem. We place too much emphasis on things that we shouldn't even be looking at, instead of solving and facing the real problems at hand.
i'm not a slave neither am i deceiving anyone here. i just gave my own personal opinion and the truth. You are entitled to yours.

Christianity Etc › Re: Nigerian Churches And Their Individual Madness Part 2: RCCG!! by Rapmoney(m): 3:24am On Oct 26, 2014 |
Martian: Nigeria, the rest of Africa and any country with a black majority are forever lost. It pains me to say this, but it seems there is this need in most black people to reject the earth in favor of one otherworldly fantasy or the other. In nigeria, you have half of the population who believe that a jew will come "rapture" them to some utopia and the other half are busy doing "a$$ up, face down" towards the east because they think the creator of the freaking universe had some special relationship with the Arabs. Meanwhile, the rest of the developed world continues to discover, create, innovate and grow. Ebola afflicts Africans but the cure has to come from either U.S or Europe. The smart scientists in Africa that could work towards the eradication of malaria and ebola don't live in a conducive environment that promotes and encourages knowledge. Instead, corruption and religion march hand in hand to keep them in darkness. Praise Jesus, Insha allah!!!! The populace that should yearn for something more are too busy praying to and propitiating one abursd notion of god or the other.
The older folks are definitely lost, the current generation are wallowing in the same ignorance and I'm damn sure they are passing their myopia and imbecilic beliefs to the kids. A microcosm of the average Nigerian/ Black mind can be seen here on nairaland. Pervasive ignorance and self righteous myopia galore. There's a thread on the front page of this site about scientists finding a body of water within the earth. True to their ignorant form, most of the commenters are writing asinine stuff and trying to relate the discovery to their jewish fairy tale. None of them wonder how come the west continues to thrive while Africa and the black diaspora continues to wait for Utopia. These people are supposed to be the relatively smart ones, with access to the internet and knowledge, but they sound like transplants from the middle ages.
If average nigerians were introdduced to the ideas of Joseph Smith and Adam Smith. It wouldn't be surprising if Joseph smith's ideas prevailed 90% of the time.
Things will remain the same and most black people will be forever regressive until a substantial amount of us realize that the earth is all that there is. There is no heaven, no hell, no gods, no spirits, no ghosts. You have one life to live and make the most out of, and if you can't create your own heaven on earth, you are just a waste of space. Jesus is not coming to save your black asses, allah is nothing but the ignorance of some arabs and the local gods are just as useless as the foreign ones.
The key to "heaven" is a thriving economy that lifts up most of the people. A society where laws and property are respected is what heaven is. Heaven is reliable utilities, good roads and infrastructure, great institutions and smart people that realize that heaven is the progressive society that they create themselves.........................................................................here on earth. Nice post...I have been patiently waiting for this! Nigeria; a fool is born every second. I pity those who still believe in some ancient, illogical, fallacious and shallow idea that there are places where people go called heaven and hell The Scandinavians DO NOT pray as much as we do, yet they have some of the world's strongest economies. The death of humans mark their end! No hell, no heaven. If anyone feels that there is place beyond where there are big fresh fruits of all kinds, where you just stretch your hands and get them, where everything is blissful and perfect, he or she needs to get their head examined!!! |

joywendy: really op no one is focusing you to do a white wedding. just say you don't want to do it, than coming here to rant that it's unafrican. There is always a court marriage which is way much cheaper and faster, if that's your problem.
the trad marriage does it offer a certificate to prove that you are both married? i think not correct me if am wrong. that the most important thing in a wedding the marriage certificate.
There are many things we do in Africa that's not a part of our culture from the beginning. you may as well throw your college degree in to the bin since it's un African. you may as well stop typing in English and start typing in your native dialect because every other thing is unafrican. you may as well stop wearing western attire because its unafrican. you may as well drop your religion and go back to the African religion of sango and all because its unAfrican.
if you claim you want to boost the African culture.
ladies who tend to just be normal and don't apply facial makeup are seen as members of the s.u. when she does she is suffering from cultural slavery. The generalization in your post irritates me. i know some ladies who prefer trad wedding to the white one.
everyone knows that the white wedding isn't from Christianity. so what exactly are you blabbing about?
inferiority complex i laugh in Swahili ain't you part of those Africans? who discriminate others who are trying to continue the old culture by referring to some of things done has barbaric? you will be the first to point fingers at people who decided to wore bare on their feet and tie wrapper.
#smh
hypocrisy at it's peak. Who says certificate cannot be issued after a trad marriage? Would it not be the normal thing to do? And for your info, I never complained of white wedding being too expensive. When will you have sense The clothes we wear is just a case of world wide civilization!!! What are clothes made from? Cotton plants! Don't cotton grow in Africa? Or is it found only in the West? When has wearing clothes made from cotton become foreign culture? Abeg go sleep joor!

As the name implies, 'white wedding' is a cultural way of getting married in the western world. Why do Africans now see it as superior to the normal African cultural marriage where two families meet and dowry is paid? Of what sense does it make to do African traditional marriage and still crown it all with this so-called annoying white wedding? Must we Africans wear those ill-fitting suits and gowns to prove that we have now been married? I personally think Africans are relegating their culture to the background and promoting the white man's culture! I overheard a colleague of mine at work telling someone that it is a sin to sleep with your 'wife' if the white wedding is not done, even though the dowry has been paid. To me, that is the highest level of cultural inferiority and slavery!!! Are we saying that our cultural marriage is not sufficient? That it must be completed by white wedding? Our women are not helping matters because they are the most significant agents of cultural slavery. With so much artificial stuffs on them-fake hair(Brazilian, Indian, Peruvian, Venezuelan, Colombian etc), fake eye-lashes, fake nails, fake names, etc, none would want to be married only in our traditional way. Tell a naija girl that you would want only a trad and see the speed she go take leave you. Even the speed of a Bugatti Veron dey learn. White wedding, over the years, has been erroneously seen by many Africans (Nigerians) as a Christian practice. If truth be told, white wedding has nothing to do with Christianity. All the marriages that are recorded in the Bible were done in the trad way...from Genesis to Revelation. Even the one Jesus attended and performed His first miracle was done in the Jewish trad way. Jesus never went there as a bishop, pastor, etc to officiate the marriage. He went as every other guests. We need to promote our culture because the whites do not marry in our own way. This reminds me of Mr Okadu and Mr Tsiba, characters in Kobina Sekyi's 'The Blinkard'. White wedding is useless and irrelevant in our culture. It makes mockery of us. Lets discuss this monster eating the brains of our people? Thanks. |
