Politics › The Herdsmen The Plan And The Docility Of A Nation by rareman(op): 10:20pm On Apr 27, 2016 |
Hear now oh nation, hear now oh Nigeria! I do not have the oratory of men, i would have organised a ball to lend my voice, i do not possess the prowess of English mastery i would have written to publishing houses just to lend my voice. All the same take my message and forget the messenger. There is a saying in my place "agwa nti ma nti anuro, egbu pu isi nti esoro ya" meaning "when they tell the ear and it doesnt listen when they the head the ear will go with it" Agreed the problems in our hands did not start now, it has been here with pockets of reported stories of farm invaders but like the saying goes "ajo ife gbaa afo oburu omena-ana" meaning "when bad thing stays for too long it becomes a tradition" One wonders why the nation is at peace with wars in our land, many reported cases of "fulani" herdsmen invading local communities, killing maiming and raping on their trail, yet grave silence envelopes the nation. Why are we not talking about it, why is their silence on this why are we not facing the very truth that is capable of bring the nation to it knees. Or is it because we have not named it what it is "jihadist strategy or another Islamic terrorist group. Somehow i refuse to call them fulani herdsmen but whatever they are, those we entrusted the security of our lives and property should know better. Many voices have risen in condemnation of these menace but the silence of the authority will even give boldness to a fearful robber. We have heard stories upon stories, but there is a grave concern here, a situation where the authorities maintain silence on the massacre of a community is no longer acceptable. On the crys of the people after a long silence a joint task force was set up and some "herdsmen" were arrested, now the gist is the military and the police are trading words on who has the custody of those criminals. While at that another set of vandals invaded a community in Enugu, over 40 lives wasted. Even with the information available to the people and security agencies that they were going to be attacked. Hope this is not what am thinking, a grand plan to annihilate a people? Or cut some people to size? Even when i refuse to believe this but the reality is dawning on us. Where a government arm DSS from Abuja with all their wizard were quick locate 5 fulani grave in a forest in Abia state yet cannot unmask those behind these attacks on southern soil begs the question. Where the president was quick to condemn 2 men fighting themselves in River state for a known cause, yet dilly dallied in responding to the massacre of Agatu people calls for concern. Whatever the grand plan is, we should know that peace is the responsibility of everyone, we should also know that war is also a resource in pursuit of peace. The president being an ex military man should know better |

midastouch: As far as I know (I might be VERY wrong), there is no crayfish farm currently operating in Nigeria. Maybe, you might be the trailblazer that we are waiting for. You never know! .
If you have the means (finances) and are ready to travel, I can recommend a farm in the US. You can visit them to train and then return to setup your own operations. Thanks once more, I only got the will, can I have the US link please |

Agriculture › Re: Crayfish Farming by rareman(op): 11:39am On Apr 21, 2016 |
midastouch: Crayfish farming is not for the faint of heart.
1. You need power 24/7 (for aeration and paddle-wheels) 2. You need to monitor lots of water attributes: dissolved oxygen, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, temperature, dissolved solids, salinity etc 3. You need to monitor the beneficial bacteria and algae
it is an expensive venture whether its marine shrimp (salt water) or fresh water shrimp.
I am not trying to discourage you, but rather to encourage you and get you prepared. Good luck. Its lucrative though. Thanks a lot, but please is their a way or a place to under study that aspect of farm. I realize that aside the local fishermen, its hardly done around here. Thank you once more |

scantee: i think i will bro, though she hardly admits having any suitor, she always make believe she don't give room for such knowing well that she with me already. I have to now just that it may not be easy, but i think is right time, though the two families is gonna be @ crosshead but i don't care anymore. All i needed now is someting to take away mind off her, unfortunately this is happning @ the wrong time because i am on leave now, & i always spent such my leave time with her. I think i just have to travel out for now. But before you do anything rash why don't you give her a little space while she concludes her final year project. Just may be she is busy with that and don't want to be choked with emotions at the moment. Obviously there might be other suitors but she has asked for a time to concentrate on her project, just give her the benefit of doubt. If you can, pray for her too. |

Agriculture › Re: Can You Provide Any Of My Goat Farm Needs... VENDORS NEEDED by rareman(m): 3:46am On Oct 26, 2015 |
TheUnbeatable: In agribusiness, before you venture as an investor, you study the venture well, do we have people doing it? Are they making profit? Or struggling? What is their per unit production cost? Is their methodology sustainable? What of breakeven analysis? What of technicalities?
West African dwarf goat has a reputation for ruggedness and milk yield across the globe and that is why it's demand is insatiable.
As much as people rear goats in pens abroad, can we afford the cost? Do we have the feeding materials and premix they use?
Statistics show that goat production is largely in the hands of small, marginal farmers and agricultural landless labourers even in India and some other countries.
A goat farmer must be ready to identify sick animals, visit goat shed daily and render quick treatment and preventive measures. He/she must be ready for routine vaccination e.g
Give multi component at February, polyvalent at June, oil adjuvent at July, pox vaccine at September, multi component clostridia at December. So sayeth the "books". This means you keep the vet as close as possible.
I don't see anyone engaging in all these and more if he/she is not in it for "goat milk" which I know is very expensive.
You have to battle pneumonia, pseudo- rinderpest, foot and mouth disease, cpd,, goat pox, blue tongue, anthrax, tetanus... I can keep naming diseases and other challenges but how many do you see in a ranging goat?
That is why I advise pasture or range goat farming. The nature will help you escape majority of all these obstacles.
My mind is burning as I am writing this piece but I can't burst it open here because I don't like debating but it pains me when someone with little or no "field knowledge" utter "good talks" let me put it that way.
I don't mean to be rude or confrontational to anyone but I just want to tell the Op to be careful of "copy copy" there are many things that works abroad and may not work here in nigeria because of many Nigerian factors. There are even very many vet drugs we don't see to buy, may be in my place here in akure but I have made enquiries sometime back when I wanted to buy "AI KIT" and the vet called, ibadan, lagos, kaduna, and we could not get. Exchange rate discourages import and supermarkets keep importing goat meat and the likes at cheap price. Tell me how we can survive in same market producing goat meat intensively?
God bless Nigeria, God bless Nairaland, God bless the reader.
Sincerely, Thanks your words are deep, it seams you have been beaten once in this game. Please what possible way can we make profit in goat rearing? Am about to go into it this month in a plot of land. I will appreciate your kind words thank you |
