Jakes' Son Charged With Indecent Exposure
DALLAS (CBS 11 News)

Jermaine Jakes, son of The Potter's House pastor T.D. Jakes, has been arrested and charged with indecent exposure.

   Jermaine JAKES

According to a Dallas Police Department arrest warrant affidavit obtained by CBS 11 News, Jakes exposed himself to two undercover vice detectives at Keist Park on Jan. 3.

The affidavit says Jakes walked up to one of the detectives at the park with his pants unzipped.  Jakes then began to masturbate while making eye contact with the detective, according to the affidavit.

The detectives arrested Jakes on a charge of indecent exposure.

Late Wednesday evening, CBS 11 News received a statement from Faith Johnson, an attorney for Jermaine Jakes.  The statement read:

"We are aware of potential allegations involving Jermaine Jakes and are undertaking our own investigation of these allegations at this time.  Given an apparent government investigation, we have no further comment at this time."

Thursday morning, Dallas County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kimberlee Leach said Jermaine Jakes surrendered to law enforcement authorities earlier in the day.  Jakes turned himself in at a local jail, Leach said, but she did not know which jail.

After his surrender Thursday morning, a judge released Jakes on a personal recognizance bond.

Various reports have identified Jermaine Jakes as the son of T.D. Jakes and also as his step-son.  Faith Johnson, the attorney, told CBS 11 News he was T.D. Jakes' step-son.  But on Thursday afternoon we talked to Curtis Coats III, who is the Chief of Communications for The Potter's House.  Coats said at various times T.D. Jakes has identified Jermaine using both terms, and told us either is acceptable.

Suspect Jakes masturbated his erect penis in order to gratify himself and Detective X.

Suspect Jakes made no attempt to conceal his erect penis from Detective X, or any other person who might be offended by his actons. There were people walking and jogging at the park on the jogging trail next to the wooded area during the time of  this offense. Detectives X and X both identified themselves as Dallas Police Officers. "My late mother pushed me into drug trafficking"
By CHRIS ANUCHA

A suspected drug trafficker, Ego Anthony, has told narcotic agents at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), how he wanted to use money made from the illicit business to give his dead mother a befitting burial.

  Ego ANTHONY

Anthony, 31, and Igboanuzue Christian, 39, were arrested at the MMIA recently by the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to the Agency’s Commander at the MMIA, Mr. Victor Cole-Showers, both suspects ingested wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine.

Anthony, with passport and ticket numbers A0024518 and 07444495706784 , respectively, was nabbed at the central screening point on March 30, 2009.

He allegedly ingested 95 wraps of substances weighing, 1.960 kilogrammes which he wanted to smuggle to Hamburg. He confessed to have swallowed the drugs in an unnamed hotel. “They promised to pay me 4,000 euros. I had wanted to use the money to bury my late mother, who is now in the mortuary. My younger ones do not even know my whereabouts. I used to sell motor spare parts but I lost everything,” Anthony, from Udi Local Government Area of Enugu state said, as he fight back tears.

Christian, also a spare parts dealer was arrested at the central screening area on March 29, 2009. The suspect, with passport number A0984726 and ticket number 0749611081116, respectively, was found to have ingested 95 wraps of substance that tested positive for cocaine, weighing 1.903 kilogrammes.

He claimed he wanted to enhance his business with the 3,000 euros they promised to pay him. His final destination was to be Dusseldorf. The suspect is from Oraifite in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to the NDLEA spokesman, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju All the suspects will be charged to court.

Meanwhile, a total of thirty-eight youths were arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),between January and March 2009, for allegedly trafficking in hard drugs. Thirty-five were males while three were females. Records also showed that thirty-eight drug suspects were arrested at the same Airport in three months.

The Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Ahmadu Giade, who disclosed this in Lagos, recently, also said that a total of 132.185 kilogrammes of narcotic drugs, with an estimated Street value of over one hundred eighty-two million naira, were also seized by the Airport Command within the same period under review.

Cannabis has highest chunk of the seizures, with 74.303 kilogrammes. Cocaine is next with 45.57 kilogrammes followed by heroin with 12.312 kilogrammes.

While urging the youths to resist drug barons, Giade said: “The youths must see themselves as stakeholders in drug control. They must resist any attempt by drug barons to lure them into prison to scuttle their ambition. When drug barons or their agents come to you to smuggle drug, expose them to the NDLEA and be handsomely rewarded.”

Christianity EtcModern Day Elijah: Popular Lagos-based Blind Preacher Disarms Robbers by Recognise(op): 3:59pm On May 02, 2009
Modern day Elijah: Blind Prophet disarms robbers, recovers his stolen property

A popular Lagos-based blind preacher, Prophet Moses Kasali, is not knew to attacks from men of the underworld. First of such attacks was in 2006, along Ife-Ilesha Road, while on his way to Erio Mountain, Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Then, the General Overseer of Hour of Mercy Prayer Ministry International, had set out to go to Ikoyi Mountain (Olorunkola) with a Nigerian living abroad who had come home for ‘special prayers’. Ironically, the returnee had left the shores of Nigeria 20 years ago after some dare-devil robbers killed one of his brothers.

“It was about 7.30p.m when we got to Ile-Ife, enroute Ijebu-Jesha. From Ile-Ife, a group of armed robbers opened fire on our jeep. The body of the vehicle was riddled with bullets, including the owner’s corner. For over 15 minutes, they were pursing us. We were three in the vehicle,” Kasali said.

After the ‘bombardment,’ the Prophet instructed his driver to park the vehicle so that he could give listening ears to the bandits. “At Oladele Olasore, near Ijebu-Jesha, I instructed my driver to stop. When the robbers saw the bullet-ridden vehicle, they asked ‘who is there,’ I told them I was the one and they said, ‘God must have been with you who made it impossible for you to be hit by bullets’.

He continued: “I told them it was through the power of God, they asked how many millions of naira were in the boot of the vehicle and I told them there was nothing in the boot. I told them I had no money but was only going to the Mountain to pray.”

The preacher said he advised them to stop armed robbery, as they could still be wealthy by engaging in legitimate businesses. “I advised them not to rob again after that day, otherwise they would be arrested and killed,” he told Daily Sun.

In spite of the Godly advice, the bandits still snatched his jeep, leaving them stranded at the scene of the robbery. A good Samaritan, however, came to their rescue, by bringing a vehicle to move them away from the robbery scene. Daily Sun learnt that police operatives recovered his jeep two days after it was stolen.

So, when the prophet, on March 12, 2009, came face-to-face with another gang of robbers, this time teenagers, while on his way to Mount of breakthrough (Ori-Oke Alaseyori), near Moniya, Ibadan Oyo State, he came to the conclusion that it was time for him to practicalise his faith just like Prophet Elijah did.

If his first encounter with robbers took him unawares, not the second one.
“On my way, the spirit of God directed me to Oyo township, to offer prayers to some sick people there, which I obliged. On our way back, before getting to Moniya, our vehicle ran into a roadblock mounted by some dare-devil, teenage armed robbers. The time was about 8 p.m.”

“Two of us, (myself and my Personal Assistant, Mr. Abiola) were in the vehicle. Immediately Mr. Abiola saw them, he informed me that some armed robbers were operating. I told him not to worry.”

When they got to the spot where the bandits were operating, their vehicle was flagged down and they were ordered to come out from the vehicle. The robbers inquired about the owner of the jeep they were riding in, and when the Prophet told them it belonged to him, one of the robbers thundered, “you are a thief, where did you get the money to buy a jeep”? I told them the jeep was donated to me by a good Samaritan.”

The robbers ordered them to surrender every thing, including money, which they did. The bandits thoroughly searched the jeep and removed other valuable items found in it, including wristwatches and handsets.

As they were searching the vehicle, one of the robbers recognized their victim to be the popular blind preacher and muttered, “are you not Prophet Moses Kasali? “I did not give direct answer, I was only begging them not to shoot any of us and that I would give them everything they wanted.” After they had collected everything, excluding the jeep, of course, the Prophet asked them if they were permitted go and the robbers answered in affirmative. But as he and his PA hopped into the vehicle, ready to drive away, the spirit of God told him not to leave the place. “The drivers and I got down from the vehicle and beckoned on the robbers.

When they got close to me, I commanded them to surrender all the money, handsets and other items they collected from us. They obeyed. I also ordered them to surrender all their guns. They obeyed. I asked them how many people they had robbed on that spot, they said we were the first victims, I asked my PA to search them thoroughly, before I told them to go and steal no more,” he said.

Though, he didn’t allow them to go immediately as he was said to have detained them for 20 minutes to see if they could see some police on patrol to hand them over to.
He said: “When no police patrol team was around, we entered into our vehicle and drove off, leaving them and their guns at the spot, I cannot say what happened to them after I left,” he remarked.

Prayers, not policies sustain Nigeria – Ex-minister
From AKEEB ALARAPE, Ibadan Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Onaolapo Soleye, at the weekend bemoaned the precarious situation in the country, saying that it was not government policies that was sustaining Nigeria‘s economy but prayers of common Nigerians.

Speaking at the public presentation of a book ‘Praying the Price’, written by a United States-based cleric, Dr. Emmanuel Ademola, the former minister stated that the nation’s economy has so far defiled all policies put in place by successive administrations in the country.

“I am not a prayer warrior but I do pray in my own way. I talk to a lot of people on what keeps Nigeria going. Some said prayers. You remember that a former head of state in this country once wondered why the nation’s economy had never collapsed. And he was right. It is the prayers of people like you that is still keeping this country together and peaceful. If anybody says it is his wisdom, it is his policy, he is lying.

“There are a lot of people in Nigeria today that are asking the question; is there hope?

Of course, as Christians, if we leave hope out of our religion, then there is no Christianity. So, we cannot say there is no hope; the hope of the second coming of our Lord Jesus. But a lot of Nigerians are putting heads together, asking the question: ‘Is there hope?’

“I have been in and out of government and occasionally one wonders: is this how we will continue till eternity?

The challenge should come first from the Yoruba nation. Prayer is important but we have to employ our wisdom. Charity begins at home. In the next five years, many things will unfold. I am not a prophet but by that time, Yoruba will ask: where were we all this while?” the former minister stated.

Also speaking at the occasion, Assistant General-Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Worldwide, Prophet G. A. Oyelami, called on the elite in the country to wake up from their slumber and save the country from imminent collapse.

Oyelami, who also decried the commercialization of churches in the country, called on the elite to stop playing ostrich that all is well with the nation but to take the bull by the horn and address the rot in the system.
“The elite should reform this country. They have the wherewithal to call all the governors and policy makers to order. They should stop punishing the common people. They should help reform this country. It is in their hands,” the man of God stated

CrimeHow I Was Beaten Black And Blue By A Junior Officer – Army Major by Recognise(op): 3:40pm On May 02, 2009
How I was beaten black and blue by a junior officer – Army major
From PAUL ORUDE, Bauchi Thursday, April 30, 2009

A major in the Nigerian Army, Major Abubakar Danladi has sensationally revealed how he was beaten and humiliated by a Lieutenant (a junior officer), who employed the services of thugs to deal with him.

He said that in the process, another soldier, a private, who accompanied him (Major) at the time of the incident, was also beaten to pulp.

Danladi, who said the incident, happened at Ladipo Market in Lagos, said although he was in mufti while the soldier, a private was in uniform; he said if not for his Identity Card, which he later presented, the Lieutenant would have snuffed life out of him.

He said that the officer and the thugs who obeyed his orders kept pounding him and the soldier with blows which made the soldier sustain injuries on his face with his mouth bleeding as a result of blows, even as he was left with a swollen head.

Danladi, who said the incident was a sad development and an indication of the collapse of discipline in the Army, said they could have been beaten to death if not for the prompt intervention of some traders and concerned citizens who pleaded with the soldiers and allowed reason to prevail.

Hear him: “It was on March 19 when this happened. I was at Ladipo market when one Lieutenant called A.A drove his car into the Ladipo spare parts market.

“I was informed that he does escort duty for the traders at the market which is known to be a congested market in Lagos.

“I was wearing mufti that day. This Lieutenant packed his car on the centre of a little passage of the road and all efforts to make him move it from the road for the traffic behind to clear failed.

“That was when I decided to intervene to plead with him to move his car. But he was angered by my action and for daring to challenge him, he suddenly pounced on me and the soldier.

“I told him that I was his senior and brought out my ID and asked him to show me his ID Card and he was attempting to, due to the congestion nature of the market he couldn’t.

“I had called a soldier, a private and told him to tell the Lieutenant to pack and identify himself, the Lt refused to identify himself; instead he started beating the soldier who is wearing an army uniform.

“When I wanted to intervene, he punched me on the face and was shouting that I was not an army officer, that I was not a Major, that I was fake.

“With the nature of Ladipo and the crowd, more than 100 thugs and traders joined him and started beating me and the soldier in army uniform.

“He even went to the Oshodi Barracks and called some Army men with Navy, where in his presence, the soldiers and the Navy ratings that followed continued beating us amidst explanation.

“It is really sad to have experience this thing, it is really very disheartening. I think it can destroy the good image and discipline of the military and also capable of discouraging interested civilians who want to join the military from doing so.”

Politician has legs broken to become taller
Sophie Tedmanson in Sydney

An Australian politician has gone to extraordinary measures to be taken seriously in the council chambers — she had her legs broken and stretched to become 8cm (3in) taller.

Hajnal Ban, 31, a councillor with Logan City local council in Queensland, underwent nine months of excruciating pain to become a “normal” 5ft 4in after years of insecurities about her height.

“A lot of young females have insecurities about their weight or their nose, mine was my height,” Ms Ban told The Times today.

She underwent the leg lengthening procedure eight years ago after being called a “midget” at school and fearing that her height would hamper her credibility as she delved into the legal profession and later into local politics.

The operation was carried out at the Ilizarov orthopaedic clinic in Russia, at a cost of $AU40,000 (£19,000). Surgeons broke both her legs in four places and stretched them slowly for 1mm every day over nine months. In the end, she had grown from 154cm (just under 5ft 1in) to 162cm.

“From the time I flew to Russia to the time I was able to wear high heels again was about a year in total, but at least nine months of that was excruciatingly painful,” she said.

The Ilizarov Clinic, in Kurgen, advertises as a scientific centre for restorative traumatology. Ms Ban said that she was one of the only people there at the time for cosmetic reasons, as many of the clinic’s other patients included people being treated for dwarfism, a hunched back, or deformed limbs.

“You see sports people going in who need that extra height, and models . . . it’s a well kept secret,” she said.

Ms Ban, who was born in Israel and is of Hungarian origins, has lived in Australia since she was a child. She ran unsuccessfully for the conservative National Party during the 2007 federal election and has been a local councillor for three years.

She is not the only Australian female politician to admit to having a cosmetic procedure, in December Anna Bligh, the Queensland premier, admitted she has had Botox injections.

Ms Ban had the surgery when she was a 23-year-old barrister and wrote a book about her experience, God Made Me Small, Surgery Made Me Tall, using the pseudonym Sara Vornamen. She wore a disguise to publicise the book and said today that she did not sell copies of the self-published book because she was a “private person” who did not want to draw attention to her surgery.

Her leg-lengthening operation was uncovered this week by Australian media but despite the sudden interest in her surgery, Ms Ban said that she did not want to be remembered as “the girl who got her legs lengthened”.

“I want people to take me seriously and to be known for the work I do as a politician in my local community,” she said.

Ms Ban said that despite the success of her surgery she would not recommend it for anyone else as it is “not everyone’s cup of tea”.

“I have absolutely no regrets, it was a decision I made in consultation with my family, I was prepared, I did my research and I’m very lucky because the results are good,” she said.

“But as much as it worked for me . . . it is not something I would necessarily promote or endorse. I would never recommend anyone for leg lengthening or liposuction or any other surgery, people have to take it up individually.”

She said that she would not rule out further cosmetic enhancements. “I haven’t made a decision whether I will in the future or not, I know I’ll get wrinkles and put on weight, and I’ll even shrink as I get older, so we’ll see what happens,” she said. “But I’m not fixated on self image.”

Tupac still alive? 'Rapper pictured partying'
Thursday, April 30, 2009

Conspiracy theories that claim late rapper Tupac Shakur is still alive and kicking have been given extra fuel today after the singer was 'pictured' out partying in New Orleans.

US website TMZ posted three pictures they claim to be of Shakur, allegedly showing him partying in a bar some 12 years after he was killed by four bullets in a drive-by shooting in Vegas.

Late star still releasing music[/center]
The pictured man is smiling in a crowd, with a goatee and a diamante nose ring and holds an uncanny resemblance to the hip hop superstar.

The website claims the snaps were taken last weekend in a bar on Bourbon Street in the southern US city.

The mystery surrounding his death hasn't been helped by the fact he has released over 20 singles since his death, with his highest chart position since coming with a No.3 with Changes in our singles charts in 1998.

Do the writers have any idea how it’s going to end?

I think so, yeah. I think they’re winging it, mate.

It depends what kind of actor you are. If you like to be in control and know the outcome, it can be frustrating. Initially, it was like that for me. If you trust the writers, it can be a really exhilarating experience. Hopefully, you get the good stuff but then maybe next week you’re dead.

Lost was a great idea for one or two series but the writers seem to be dragging it out. Do you think it’s losing its appeal?
Less is more. I started in the cult show Oz and I got off it because I felt enough was enough. The writers of Lost have different ideas and obviously they have arcs they want to complete. You should hit and run, then get on with something else.

Filming a hit TV show on a Hawaiian island sounds tough.
Ha! It is actually. You might think it’s easy but it’s hard work. I’m away from friends and family for nine months. But, honestly, who’s going to listen to me complain? There are lovely perks - you’re in paradise and you turn around after shooting and you can see a whale jump out at sea. But it’s quite a lonely job to do, all the way out there.

If you were plane-wrecked on an island, do you think you’d be able to survive?
I’d love it. It’s part of the reason I took the job. It’s that whole Marlon Brando thing in Apocalypse Now, isn’t it? Getting out there and doing it native style, man. Whether I’d survive or not is another thing but I’d have a good go.

Was there pressure to make your name more Westernised to fit into Hollywood?
I’m of Nigerian descent, from the Yoruba tribe. Names are very significant in that culture. It basically states your purpose in life. Ade is ‘the crown’, Wale means ‘to arrive’, so that means ‘the crown has arrived’. Akin is ‘warrior’ and Agbaje is ‘prosperity and wealth’. Every day when someone calls my name, they remind me of that purpose and for me to renounce that would be sacrilege. The name caused a lot of scrapes growing up. Having come this far, I wasn’t going to abandon it for Hollywood. People are getting used to it. They abbreviate it to triple A.

What was working with 50 Cent like?
He was just a businessman. We were all there to work and to tell his story. I got involved because I’m a big fan of the director Jim Sheridan. I wasn’t too enthusiastic about the storyline. You don’t get too many chances to work with great directors so, when it comes along, you’ve got to take it.

Does being a Buddhist fit with being an actor?
I got jaded with the profession about four or five years ago and was thinking about going into something else. It was only my faith that enabled me to continue. The main reason I took the role of Mr Eko was that I thought it would be interesting to play a role exploring another man’s faith and compare it to my own.

Are there many Buddhists in Hawaii?
Hawaii has one of the biggest Buddhist communities in the world. So that’s what’s made my experience there brilliant, linking to those communities. I’m a Buddhist of the Nichiren Daishonin temple in Maidenhead. It’s just a philosophy of life. Before any action, you pray on it. Buddhism is about winning and I think it goes very well with being an actor because this industry is very much about winning.

What’s Mr Eko’s story?
He’s an ex-drug lord who was always a priest but who had to turn to drug-dealing to save his brother’s life. His journey has been about reclaiming his soul and the island has given him a chance to redeem himself. I met someone in the bank the other day and he said: ‘You’re that criminal pretending to be a priest,’ and I said: ‘No, actually, I’m a priest pretending to be a criminal.’

Do you base the performance on any drug-dealing vicars you know?
Oh yeah, they’re everywhere,  To be honest, when I came to play Eko, I’d just finished playing another drug-running king pin in the 50 Cent film, so I had plenty of resources to bring to it. It’s just acting and it’s juicy.

What did you do before acting?
Among many things, I did a bachelors and masters degree in criminal law. It’s a huge leap to acting. I’d only gone into acting while I was getting qualified, to figure out what I wanted to do. It was a convenient time-waster. I’d always had a creative propensity and it was just about finding the courage to go out and embrace it. The education, the discipline and the focus that I gained from studying had given me an advantage because, as you probably know, we artists tend not to be businesspeople. We get caught up in the creative side, so coming from that legal side gave me a very professional outlook and I think it helped me just forget about myself and look at it as a business. So, I just hustled and had objectives and focus points and got on with it. It was a graft.

Were you surprised by the success of Oz, particularly your character?
You never know where your big roles are going to come from. I’d done a number of films before then: Congo, Ace Ventura, and starred with Michael Caine in Legionnaire. The one that really resonated with the American public was Oz. It started with a two-liner guest role, which just developed into a legendary TV character. It was pure freedom playing a role like that, because there were no limits. When someone tells you you’re in prison for life, never getting out and you chopped off a policeman’s head, I mean you have licence to kill and do whatever it takes to survive. As an actor, that’s just brilliant. It was probably one of the best times of my career. Everything I’ve got since then has derived from that performance. Even the Lost creators were huge fans. In fact, Lost seems somewhat based on the structure of Oz: the flashbacks, the killing off of main characters. A lot of TV has taken from it.

What have you got planned for after Lost?
I’m making my directorial debut at the beginning of next year. I’ve just come back from Sundance where I met Robert Redford and Michelle Satter, and they’re backing my film. It’s going to be a black British feature film called Farming, based on my upbringing. I’ll be setting up the shoot for next year and it’ll be out sometime in 2008. There are a few other roles being talked about - big films, which is exciting. I’d really like to play myself as an Englishman. I’d also like a really big, fat, juicy lead character, whether it’s in an action film or a thriller. I’d like to get a big kahuna role now, you know what I mean? I’m ready for it.
