Nigerians love Competition. We are very competitive. Apart from government refineries now working, many more private refineries will spring up . This will affect the price of petrol as it will become cheaper and cheaper due to full scale deregulation. I believe the refineries are truly working. |
You must really love to be a farmer before going into Cocoa cultivation. Don't go into something you do not love because you think there is money in it. It always ends in tears if you are doing something you don't love. Don't be a follow follow person. Take your time to think about things. Cheers. |
I will advice anyone who wants to go into Cocoa cultivation to do his or homework very well. Read a lot. Visit a cocoa plantation and observe things. Ask the cocoa Farmers questions and research properly. Go to Cocoa Research Institute and ask questions about the type of seedlings in existence. Cheers. |
twosquare:Thanks. Yes, Oyo should take the lead in Agriculture in the South. The state has a very big landmass. Ogun State is not really serious about commercial crop production . All the southern governors need to come together and implement a serious blueprint on commercial agriculture , starting with Young Farmers Clubs in secondary schools. 10 billion naira contributed by each South West State towards an agricultural project is a good starting point. |
twosquare:Southerners have to wake up and smell the coffee. Most of the agriculture inputs are taken to the North. I don't know what the southern governors are doing concerning fighting for Agricultural inputs to be shared to Farmers in the south in large numbers. Most of the crops planted in the North can also grow in the South. Even sobo leaves, ginger, onions etc. I have seen guinea corn growing on roadsides in semi rural areas of Lagos State e.g Agbowa, Imota etc. Give it a trial and develop on gradually. |
twosquare:Thanks, Jare. They are so quick to discourage cultivation of beans in the South. When I was a kid in the 80's, my aunt used to plant beans in our compound in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos. And we used to harvest the red beans after some months. I am now in my mid 40's. Beans can grow in the South with good farming methods . Cheers. |
Sicklebear28:I believe beans can be planted in Southern Nigeria. Cheers. |
LocalFARMERS:When is the best time to plant beans in Nigeria? Which month of the year? Especially in Southern Nigeria. Thanks. |
Starphyre:1. How much to lease an hectare for a year? 2. How much to lease an acre for a year? 3. How secure is the place? 4. Is your company registered? 5. Do you have pictures of the place? I await your answers. Thanks. |
Ynix:This blue ocean strategy . What is it about? Can you explain, please? |
eddy2farm:You have tried on your own. 55 acres of Cassava and 5 acres of plantain. You be Oga o. I don't even have an acre of anything yet. Just starting out on my one plot of land. I pray to go into serious farming next year. Cheers. |
Alakoriomo:You are being sarcastic, right? Do you know how many Hausa merchants and traders of foodsuffs who are wealthy and have never been to the white man's lands? Hundreds of thousands of Nigerians are rich through businesses and they don't see Europe and North America as a big deal. People own bus fleets in Nigeria and rake in millions daily and don't give a hoot about living abroad. No need to compare Nigeria and abroad. Pray to God to bless you wherever you are. Cheers. |
They have started again. Competitive Nigerians have started again. UK and Nigeria have their advantages and disadvantages. Choose the country you want to live in and stop complaining. |
PapaNnamdi:Nobody is forcing you to apply, Sir. You don't have to put down my post because you don't agree with it. Learn to be polite, please. Cheers. |
Neddstark:This is the narrative the South must change. Cheers. Southern Nigeria must embrace Agriculture 1000%. Cheers. |
omo17:We are not practicing Agriculture in Nigeria, especially in the Southern Nigeria. We are not ready yet. And fruits are getting costlier these days. We are not innovative at all. Cheers. |

Ochoa made it out. Nice one. I don't like cocaine and all these drugs but I like the courage of Mexican and Colombian drug Lords. They go BIG with their ideas. |
kennyamusan:The truth is farming is not easy. However, we need to increase our agricultural output massively. Try and cultivate 40% of what you eat for a start. Cheers. |
Tinubu has forgotten that his 4 years will soon be up. Time waits for nobody. |
Johncarlo07:Pawpaw leaves and bitter leaf are effective against coccidiosis. You need to rub the pawpaw leaves together and get the juice out of them. Then mix the juice of the pawpaw leaves with the water the chickens will drink. You will see the effect immediately. Get lots of pawpaw leaves cheaply from people's compounds. For bitter leaf, just pick up the sick chicken and squeeze the juice of the bittetleaf into its mouth. Like 3-5 drops daily. Isolate the sick birds from the rest and treat them. You can also add ground ginger in small amounts into their water daily. It builds up the immunity of the chickens against diseases. As soon as you buy the pulleys or point of lays, start giving them these treatments I have mentioned, whether they are sick or not. Cheers. |
Rabbits can also be slaughtered at Christmas. Why must it be chicken all the time? Rabbit meat is sweet too. And Rabbits are easier to breed than chickens. Teach your children to look after the rabbits and instruct them to cut grass for the rabbits to eat. Rabbits eat yam peels, all kinds of grass, corn shafts etc. Just do your research and be proactive towards 2025 Christmas. |
joycluv:Very good. I like that. Tinubu era will let many Nigerians become creative and start using their brains. There is so much information online that can help Nigerians cultivate their own food or reduce expenses. Chicken Feed can be of any make up as long as it is nutritious and healthy. Chickens were eating something before commercial feeds came into existence. What were chickens eating in the bush 200 years ago? Cheers. |
Oluchiugo:Broilers are not suitable for this kind of breeding. Cockerels are better. |
Johncarlo07:Where you source the day old chick from is very important. Some of these sellers of chicks do not clean the cages very well. The cages are full of poo from infected chickens . They also do not give them medication against coccidiosis etc. There are local herbs and medications that can save the lives of these chicks from premature death. Read widely and ask elders questions. Scent leaves are good pain killers and infection preventers. Drop palm oil in the water of the birds once in a while. Palm oil also dries up boils on the chickens eyes and head. All these solutions are known by locals we refer to as illetrates. |
Chickens eat a lot of things and they will adapt to life on a free range in your compound. Buy cockerels and raise them in your compound. Cockerels are hardy and they will survive if you know what to put in their water to drink e.g cut lemons into two and squeeze the lemons or limes into their water once a week. Or you can throw scent leaves in their water. Same for ducks and local turkeys. For feed, look for pap sellers and buy pap shaft from them at a cheap price. Go to big open markets in the state you live in and make enquiries. You will be told where to get materials to make your own feed cheaply. Utilize all the food waste in your kitchen and give it to the chickens and ducks. Get food waste from parties and hotels and take out the bones and harmful items. Hotel food waste are good for home bred chickens. Just think. Make sure you construct a cage the chickens can return to at night after roaming your compound which should have gates. Cheers. |
For 2025 Christmas, just raise chickens, turkeys and ducks yourself to avoid stories. And you don't have to give them expensive feeds. You can give them food scraps, scraps from parties ( rice, eba etc ), corn shafts, and your own compounded feed. Let them roam in your compound and feed on grubs in the soil etc. You will spend less money this way. Cheers. |
Just throw the weevil infested beans into the freezer for a day . Bring the beans out and pick it for eating. The weevils would be dead from from the icy cold of the freezer. Cheers. |
