When you don't take your chances..... |
I repeat again. What foreign investor will come to this country to invest in a hyper inflated economy where the purchasing power of the citizens is withering away. What will they produce that Nigerians can readily afford. Thus before junketing all over the globe TAME INFLATION FIRST or at least be seen to be fighting the fire, to be fiscally disciplined. You cannot be talking about reconstruction while destruction is still rampant. You cannot be talking about the cost of plastic surgery when the man is struggling for life, in and out of coma in the burns unit. If you have decided that the investments you seek is to turn Nigeria into one big export factory where the citizens will only 'see' but not 'eat' of the products and services like Bangladesh and Srilanka, fine. But then you inject a new philosophy to the country to make the people ready to But being a 'work centric' country means a work centric leadership that emphasizes on 'to do' and not 'to contract out' like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Gulf Arab nations we are lazily apt to copy. We need a new thinking, a new philosophy to escape the wholesale pauperization of this country which is way beyond the thoughts and ways of the establishment figures in leadership right now. |
Elections have consequences. Democracy has an operating manual. Nigerians should sit down for once to study how things work in other nations before gambling their lives away on failed systems and leaders. A thousand kilometers or a thousand years on the wrong path will not make for a right destination or the journey successful. |
Angelfrost:It takes sound leadership to craft a new ideology which Nigeria needs right now. It takes visionary and demonstrative leadership to take the citizens of this country out of the rut of crime of all kinds into honest, productive livelihoods. This is where we say, leadership 'THAT PUTS NIGERIANS TO WORK'. making work the mainstay of the economy and social life by incentifying productivity from the grassroots up. Leadership that basically says, 'here is work to be done and this is the value for doing such, let us do it together to get up and out of this mess..' But when you look at the spectrum of society from top down, from leadership down, you see wealth without work or responsibility, demonstrable affluence without recognizable effort so what do they expect the man at the grassroots to do..... crime of course. He simply turns with the force of arms to exploit his fellow man just as his leaders are doing with their pens, papers and executive fiat. When we say we should rid ourselves of feudalism and practice true democracy as prescribed worldwide where class differences are bridged and leadership is built from the ground up, our people say no. They rather see their leaders as kings and emperors, above reproach, above correction, above advice, above guidance and above critique. As a matter of fact, above living an exemplary, inspirational life. So they go astray. For even feudal lords and leaders of old led their nations and armies to war from the front such that their battlefield competencies were immediately tested and their tactical inadequacies punished with their heads on a platter. But what do we have today. Leaders that cannot walk the talk, that say go and manage then they turn and squander. Leaders that say go and work to pay tax to feed yourselves but do not bat an eyelid to find 'ways and means' to satisfy their outrageous appetites for extravagance and 'squandermania'. Without a purposeful, visionary leadership foisted in place to superintend over a citizenry that has decided to restructure their country, a leadership that has accepted to commit 'class suicide' (according to a popular Abuja Radio guest) absolutely nothing will stop the snowball of wanton criminality from escalating. Nothing. We either ALL work this country together or it implodes and takes us all out. We either ALL WORK or we all starve together and start eating ourselves up. So if hailers and deniers like they can sit in their enclaves and expect their fellow demented citizens in the bush to accept that a so called leader can |
seunjungle1:Hard for people who don't want to do the right thing. Hard for people who are pretentious and have self serving agenda. If it was hard then why are they fighting tooth and nail to lead. This is the easiest country to lead. It is filled with people without values, standards or vision who demand nothing. |
Cmeo:Then develop your country by yourself. Stop travelling all over the world disturbing people doing their businesses comfortably. Are they telling you that without Nigeria they cannot exist. It is this kind of useless talk we used to hear in the late 90's and early 2000's about the oil sector that, and I quote, 'Shell cannot do without Nigeria. If they leave Nigeria, they will collapse...' They have since left and their business continues to boom. But where is the NNPC and the oil business in Nigeria today. Production down, not anywhere near our quota for years. Refining, non existent. Gas, struggling to survive. Sales of our crude, here today, floating ships on the ocean with unsold cargoes tomorrow. Instead of them to sit their asses down in humility and figure out how to sort themselves out they will be making noise all over with useless pride in one hand and rampaging poverty in the other. |
Reference:If you want to go farm and seek for land to lease only to be told that the former lessors of the one you see have been chased out of business by a massive grasscutter infestation. Won't you tell the land owner to clear the problem first before placing it on the market or will you foolishly become the next victim? Oya, answer, the grasscutters are waiting for a replay..... saying 'what ya gonna do?.... |
We warned them (government) to take inflation seriously, but their fanatics said we talk too much. They said they were looking for foreign investors. Foreign investors that will watch their investments watered down by 30 percent inflation every year? Who does that. |
'...Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, Nkwocha said the proposed plan for the construction of the new residence was awarded by the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan....' They keep on speaking as if they are talking to children.... anyway citizens that are only experts at the mundane will be treated as such. For goodness sake what was the condition, the state of the economy when the contract was awarded, and are the circumstances the same as today. Are they conducive enough to continue with 'vanity fair'. What value does that expenditure confer on this country. What is the gain in finishing that building at a time like this. What did his numerous predecessors lose by not operating from that building. These people just carry on as if the people of this country are either completely ignorant or seriously incompetent to challenge them for good governance. As a father you put up a deposit for a bag of new classic golf clubs when you were a fortune 500 manager but are now in dire straits and have to venture out to bring home the bacon and you insist on completing payment because you claim the clubs may cost more next year while telling your folks at home to go lean.... who does that and expects peace in the house. Everyday these people continue to stretch the envelope of social cohesion in this country and despite the pleadings of well meaning Nigerians they continue to fan the embers of popular angst. It is so clear they can no longer hear the masters whistle. I am so sorry for what is coming to this country. |
Elections have consequences. Elect people with the capacity to deliver.....my people will say, no. They will rather elect people they cannot control and then 'manage' their lives after the fact. |
I warned about the devastating effects of inflation just hours after fuel and currency subsidy removals. That governments the world over feared inflation more than even armed conflict. And that the Nigerian government had to act immediately to fight the embers and restrict the fallout to life (goods and services) within the immediate vicinity of energy and currency exchange. But the government did nothing, absolutely nothing for months until very recently, belatedly with half-hearted knee jerk measures through the CBN. Till date there is no concise strategy to tackle the problem. This is the result. |
Poor services infrastructure makes the development of tall buildings largely unviable in these parts. Power and water supply, waste disposal, fire control, etc can all add up to huge sums required to keep such buildings independently functional. Sums that most business or private occupants will struggle to afford in the kind of economy Nigeria presents. |
NFBI:China. |
Looks good. |
Just disgusting. No standards, no pride, no values, no decency, nothing..... Everything is expediency, just to put food on the table. |
Watched most of the match in question. Didn't see anything resembling this bull peddled about. The whole team played badly yesterday. At home they gave Inter too much respect with slow tentative play unlike their approach last season. And as for Osimen he is yet to get up to speed after the long injury lay off. Some of his touches were not precise enough to threaten a well marshalled Inter backline. They lost to a far superior team and likely champions this season. PS: And as I have said before, In Walter Mazzari they have signed an average, 'has been' coach who cannot deliver anything to them. Italian soccer remains a very closed, conservative management system. They believe in recycling coaches instead of looking abroad for fresh talent and moving with the trend of young and dynamic coaches taking the leagues of Europe by storm in England, Spain and Germany. It is like City employing Rafa Benitez when Pep leaves as defending champion or Rafa returning to Liverpool if or when Klopp gets fed up. Who does that. |

sangresan:So they said about Japanese products such as Toshiba and Toyota in the 60's and 70's in the face of Grundig and Volkswagen. So they said about Samsung and Hyundai in the 80' and 90's So they said about Chinese products just 20, 30 years ago. Today, no one is saying anything against them. For there has been a meeting of minds. The Chinese have interacted with the world and raised standards accordingly across board while the world has gone broke and can no longer afford to buy sentiment. Don't worry, you will get there. |
This is where government comes in to aid the back end and front end of the industry, to help them lower the cost of production and to help them penetrate markets beyond their present reach such that as we tour other nations for aid, credit and investment we can practically show them our potentials to work to produce and earn a decent living and to advance the industrialization of the country. |
The governor is in Dubai attending to.the 'climate change that has destroyed that bridge'..... so just keep quiet till the arabs release more humanitarian funds. |

I can see folks here comparing rents between both countries capital cities in question versus the respective minimum wages. Of course a minimum wager simply cannot afford to rent in London, so how does one expect a person earning 30,000 naira per month to afford an apartment of similar quality in Abuja..... and when I say Abuja, I don't mean an hour drive from the city centre, which will take you as far as Brighton in the UK. Let us stop justifying a country poorly run for decades which has experienced a calamitous decline over the recent years. 'Familiarize yourselves with the chains of bondage, and you are preparing your own limbs to wear them. Accustomed to trample on the rights of those around you, you have lost the genius of your own independence, and become the fit subjects of the first cunning tyrant who rises.”.... - Abraham Lincoln Call wrongs for what they are. |
psalmsjob:How will you command and direct leadership when you cannot interpret the very basic economic information that you come across. The comparison was simply about 'earning power' and 'purchasing power', the two factors that describe in economic terms, the quality of life. For a citizenry can earn high wages in comparison to other nations but have a weak purchasing power due to inflation, or on the other hand very low relative wages with low inflation which is just as bad. In our case we suffer from a combination of very low earning power and a collapsing purchasing power, the two factors that is aggravating the poverty situation across the country. Thus the person in question on what amounts to minimum wage in the UK can purchase those groceries working for just an hour before tax while it will take his Nigerian counterpart more than a week's work (8.8 days) to have that. This difference is very stark. Even more startling is the fact that while the chap in the UK will have to work an extra 5 minutes to earn/purchase those same groceries next year courtesy of a CPIH rate of about 7 percent (assuming it remains constant), his counterpart in Nigeria will have to work up to 12 days in 2024 to buy the same stuff (according to your price list and our current inflation rate of 27 percent.) How you can compare the state of both economies, the standard of living or the quality of governance is just baffling, just beyond me. A nation with almost two-thirds of its citizens living below the threshold of poverty (earning less than 3 dollars or N3,000 naira a day) and a quarter multi-dimensionally poor - that is without a spoon or fork to eat with (if you know what this means), deserves all hands on deck to get out of this dire crises and not have folks like you justify or excuse it away. The crises of insecurity that has overwhelmed the security services is the first sign that a revolution is underway and those that are well schooled in the history of nations are warning that the tipping point to a full blown crises is not far away if the leadership of this country does not arise to the reality on ground. Everyone will be affected. |
bentenny:The City defence over the past 3 matches has been below par. And as you know the famous saying, 'defences win titles/trophies' No matter how good your front or middle play, if you cannot shut the back door you drop points. So if Pep cannot motivate the present backline then he has to look into the market sooner than later. The Premiership is not a league where half measures pay off. Arsenal lost the title last season due to the collapse of their defence late in the season, same with Liverpool the season before that. |
Na wa..... shocked.... the Premiership is meant for men with brass balls. No free food anywhere for those calling it a farmers league. Said it. Spurs v City.... a blockbuster..... headlined by crazy play, spectacular goals..... and of course the regular ref gaffe.... all making the Prem the league of no equal.... super cool. |
Nigerians are funny people. They elect leaders that are 'bigger' than them, leaders that they fear instead of leaders that fear them. So they have governments they simply cannot control. And a government that cannot be controlled by 'the people' is not a democratic one in deed. In other nations where democracy works the moment 'the people' raise issues of concern, those elected to government respond almost instantaneously because they know the consequences of popular discord and know that any lacuna in citizen advocacy immediately transfers power to the opposition. The summary of all this is that a nation is best served when the citizens put the overall interests of their country and their fellow citizens above themselves, their parochial interests and all other pecuniary sensibilities. We cannot continue putting people into power only to turn around and bemoan their actions while in government and wail about their poor terms when they vacate office. There should be mechanisms to steer governments in motion towards a desired and expected end. |
Can't wait for City v Spurs to round up a the matchday..... ![]() |
