Once again I really do not desire to comment about Nigeria anymore as a social state but because when humanity is on the brink let me just hazard a suggestion. 160 years ago western United States looked exactly what much of Nigeria is as a state today, totally lawless. It was EVERYBODY for himself. No sense of civilisation, authority nor organisation. NO STRUCTURE. It was the rule of the strong, the gun and the mob. Bandits ruled the highways, cowboys ruled the plains and the gunslinger, the fastest trigger man held the town captive and CAPTIVATED. But soon the people got fed up with rebuilding their homes, their towns, their businesses and their cemeteries. And begun to ORGANIZE themselves into viable societies by establishing law enforcement and justice AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. That gave birth to the now famous office of the SHERIFF, the Chief LAW man. That is law enforcement at the grassroots. They would hunt down criminals, bring them before the county judge and hold them in county jail or hang them on county stocks. ORGANIZATION is the key to civilization, social viability, sustainability and prosperity. Whatever that has held back the organisation of society down to the grassroots in Nigeria is what will prevent this country from ever developing. Without restructuring Nigeria CAN NEVER develop. This is 26 years of unbroken so called democracy. Yet society has not moved an inch forward by whatever metrics of life or decent living. So it is much deeper than mere governance. Prove me wrong that the black man is just not wired to organize himself into a viable, sustainable and prosperous society. Copied from the Edo Massacre post. Same issues, same country. And it will apply next week when the next massacre occurs and the week after, and the week after that and perhaps for the next 26 years, just as 26 unbroken years of so called democracy has passed without a solution in sight. |

Not only the sporting facilities that will receive a rub. The local hospitality and tourism sectors are major beneficiaries of the FIFA free weeks with some hotels and restaurants raking in a forex equivalent to their annual income over a match weekend. This all goes to show that development is integrated and can be made organic by good vision. For how come Abuja with all it's administrative acumen and Lagos with all it's commercial power cannot hold down the top sporting event of the season, the FIFA free week. |
SocialJustice:The standards of architecture in Nigeria is presently very, very poor. But I don't blame them. Professionalism in service is none existent in almost works of life in these parts. This structure is supposed to be iconic. A masterpiece for all ages. A place of tourism, culture and identity in addition to it's primary function. The design for works should be well thought out, the concept open to competition by as many artists and designers to reflect the significance of such an edifice. Such buildings in other parts are not on a stop watch and nit on a budget. But I guess in these parts we are not like that. |
My oh my. A legend is gone. What a man, what a mountain, what a phenom. These are the folks that made pro boxing the number one combat sports of the century. Before corruption and division in the ranks of the governing bodies ruined everything. Today soft assed Brits are being knocked around by Eastern European paperweights calling themselves world champions.....sad. |
DJInfluence:Not the same person. IK was a striker. OK was the gentle giant in Westerhoff"s golden team. |
robosky02:Then we are not likely to go through as table toppers.... And that is why we need more points, more goals and lot more seriousness. |
Lookman pass that ball. |
We may have to switch to 4-5-1. These yellow boys are beginning to win the duels. |
Ah, ah Moses Simon.... try and improve your game na... |
SA v Les is currently goaless. Wish it can end that way but Bafana is fiercely huffing and puffing. |
femi4: ....pun not intended abeg oh.... |
femi4:We need to pile on the goals at every opportunity to prevent out traditional 2nd half blues and to make sure goal difference at the end of the qualifiers do not matter. |
Game over. Thank goodness. Osimen the poacher. Hope those slack Premiership defenders are taking notes ahead of next season. |
What is Nwabali doing..... showboating or time wasting. Look man we need goals. It will matter at the end. |
The guys should press home their advantage while the fear factor remains. Once Rwanda senses the storm is over.they will come back. Despite the fact that we have more quality forwards in our squad than ever before, long gone are the days we hit our opponents multiple times a match. |
For an eighth straight finals, the Japanese Men's Soccer team is pretty descent, consistent and as reliable as their motorcars, bikes and general electronics... "Yo Shinai, Yo Kangai... ![]() |
The ambience around money can only lead to two things, fear or greed. There is nothing other than these two polar opposite all men traverse. When you see extreme behavior, you know one of the two has been firmly embraced. |
Yet China remains the largest producer and exporter of the ingredients used in making the deadly drug fentanyl. Something is not adding up. |
Emmastan291:'Should make' as per designation or ownership....because they presently own far bigger stadia in other places, Abuja, Lagos... which they just cannot develop, redevelop or maintain. So the last thing anyone should want is to let them have the Uyo stadium in any way, shape or form. It will be the certain end. Let those who value things have them and hire them out to Nigeria plc in business terms. |
Hemanwel:Whatever they claimed was done there is still not to FIFA standards and except we wish the ignomy of playing our home matches in Benin Republic, Uyo unfortunately is the defacto National Stadium. Once again like Nigeria Plc, we spend enormous resources time and again to get it right, only to consistently get it wrong. |
Judolisco:On the contrary. I think it is because of the Uyo stadium the Federal Government has refused to maintain the National Stadium in Abuja or any of it's own stadia around the country to FIFA standards which is alien to the traditions in most soccer loving countries. Yes, my wife was right for insisting on buying a car for herself now that I have to abandon my badly maintained one for hers. After all she is my wife and I need it for the economic runs of the family. |
Ekaka14:After the tumultuous couple of years in Italy I think someone must have strongly advised him on how much milage quality inter personal relationships can add to the career of any performing artist/sportsman and how much it can underpin ones bank balance. Very impressive his gestures towards the fans, club staff and team mates. Even handed the ball as the team's pen taker to ageing Alvaro to get some lime off the light. |
NaijaMutant:I really do not desire to say anything about this country anymore. It has been 14 months since..... but there are some thoughts you just cannot ignore and situations you just gaze at in utter amazement.... such as that highlighted above.... just amazing. |
The problem America has today is the failure of the people to moderate their socio-political aspirations over time leading to ever greater swings to the left and right of centre. The over the top liberalism of the Democratic era starting with the Clinton years in office has resulted in deeper and more dangerous Conservative pushbacks through George Bush and now a full blown extremist in Donald Trump. One can only imagine what the next Democrat in office will do. One can certainly imagine what eventually happens to any dynamic mechanism that increasingly oscillates wildly, whether a child pushing the limits of a garden swing or a wobbling semi truck speeding down a highway. The future of the United States does not look good if THE PEOPLE cannot find a place of temperance, solidarity and mutual understanding. They just cannot have everything all at once. |
One of my biggest regrets of all time. That Concorde was an economic step ahead of me when it bowed out finally two decades and more ago. But I still retain a couple of unique souvenirs from my dad's last flight to Newyork, March 1980 and memories of his enthusiasm for all metal things that fly. |
Inspirer1:Who will 'go there' if 'here' was okay. So I think this is one bitter pill we have to swallow as a third world nation. Whatever has made us the way we are is unattractive to the world out there. |
UEFA has just created a perfect storm for heavy contests at the latter stages of the tournament. Cannot see the bigger teams losing out here. |

Agreed. Napoli and Barca play about the same pattern but the Barca squad is deeper in number and talent. One or two injuries in the Napoli squad and it becomes a flat tyre. I am not even sure Osimhen will be available if Nigeria goes deep in the Nations Cup tourney. |
The last exchange between the fellow and a certain 'Ayobami Ogedengbe' is symptomatic of everything that is wrong with this country and his response is the exact position between Nigeria and most of the developed nations of the world, the mindset of the people steeped in cronyism, tribalism masquerading as culture and tradition and wanton corruption. Get rid of these deadweights and this country will float to the surface of life. |
Desusi:And what will a bag of rice do for you. |
Anfieldboss:Indeed. There is something still missing in that midfield that may be resolved if Thiago returns but from today's expose..... "Houston.....we have a problem". |
