lexy2014:Totally agree. And that is because democracy in Nigeria remains largely dysfunctional courtesy of failed institutions. Every head of every parastatal owes his allegiance to the Head of State rather than the State itself so they gauge the leanings of who is the President and pander to his sentiment. And we the people accept and support this anomaly. Last regime you often heard the saying that, 'it is Mr. President's RIGHT' to do this and that. When a people accept that thought pattern they surrender themselves to autocracy and leave their guard posts as defenders of State institutions. I look forward to a time when the President of Nigeria becomes answerable for his actions WHEN in power. When the era of UNLAWFUL orders have immediate consequences. |
seunmsg:Indeed. I have a couple of workers who have relocated their entire families to Abuja as their villages were overrun and effectively emptied. Hope this can inspire their confidence in the government of this country badly shaken by the former regime that is proving day after day they actually had an agenda. My only concern once again remains our inability as a country to redirect government while in power, while they do the things inimical to the citizens of the country. For if we are to wait for four or eight years before effecting better, just government policies and programs then democracy is not really effectual. The Legislature should wake up and do its job we pay so dearly for. |
nairalanda1:I will like to ask you this simple question. What is MORE MONEY IN THE HAND OF GOVERNMENT GOING TO DO FOR NIGERIA AND THE AVERAGE CITIZEN......that all the money accrued to Nigeria since independence, billions of dollars has not done. And I highlight this because poor and largely unproductive Nigerians will be paying taxes in lowly naira. So, it is not a question of quantity but of application of resources that good governance brings. If you don't see that Nigeria finances has forever been like water in a basket then I don't know what to say. To me the only potential benefit of galloping taxation, subsidy removals and all the crushing financial stresses Nigerians are made to pass through now is good governance. If all this cannot cause the average citizen to stand up, pay attention, cast aside his sentiment and be more vocal in his demand for good governance, forget it. |
nairalanda1:Who is the 'We'... because I have been around this business of government for quite a while and I have never seen any government that willingly, on its own fights its members who are corrupt. It just doesn't happen ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. What makes corruption 'unviable' in most climes including China is the fear of the people. And the people can only be feared if they have the potential to be collectively angry and take action against bad governance. And the primary trigger for collective tension anywhere in the world is.... you got it, taxation.... and all its derivatives. Yes taxation has brought down great empires from antiquity to modern times, it has toppled governments and vanquished despots, but one common denominator had been the 'collectivity' of the people. In Nigeria there is no agreement between citizen a and citizen b on anything so governments since independence have exploited the cracks to misrule and have gotten away with it. Taxation will not develop Nigeria. It cannot develop a nation that cannot agree what good governance is. |
nairalanda1:You are not listening to what they are saying just like leaders of this country seldom listen to the folks they govern. If you did you will not persist with this chicken and egg argument as to what come first, good governance that proves taxation a viable tool of development or the sacrifices of the citizen coming first to spur development. In my opinion this argument will never be resolved in Nigeria without restructuring because we have not collectively agreed what good governance is in the first place. So no matter how much taxes are collected, no matter how stressed Nigerians are, no matter how crushing the poverty, Nigeria will not get developed by Nigerians. Watch out, the product of all these 'collections' will be the rise of new cartels, super contractors and ultra fat fat-cats. The kinds we see daily roaming about Abuja seeking to hit their billions from a briefcase. If not I will say, tax the hell out of Nigerians and their response out of anger will be to vociferously demand good governance and accountability in registering themselves as government watchdogs. Then taxation will have the effect of developing institutions and the country at large. But sentiment will never allow this. So it is left for government to prove to the average Nigerian citizen why he should pay more. What have they done with what they have collected over the years. |
structurem:Ask me? Feudalism is a terrible way to exist. |
amazingspiderma:As in eh. Every pussy cat is becoming a tiger since the retired general retired again. Why didn't they say all these back then when 'Meffy' was on the hot seat so he could school them as to 'who and what' was responsible for 'who and what'. Because I have never seen such happen elsewhere where a referee will be blamed for the outcome of the game between government and the citizens. For the avoidance of doubt the role of the CBN on inflation is as limited as the role of a electrical stabilizer in protecting an electric device from under or overloads. It has a range of latitude. It does not generate or consume energy just regulates to protect. So it can fail if the bounds are exceeded. And I hope that as Emefiele is no longer there the present governor is holding inflation steady and it is no longer rising ....? Cowardly citizens that cannot regulate their government in play but yap all over the place like hungry puppies when the damaging deed is long over and the actors in the tragic comedy have since left the stage. Ask the average Nigerian if he is PRESENTLY advocating or demanding for inflation reduction measures from the present government.... no. Everything government does is GOOD in their eyes as they are all scared of their present king and will not talk until he leaves office and then the wailing starts. Let Nigerians dig to find the productivity that accompanied the debt (they were all clapping for) that is almost ten times that of a decade ago. There they will find inflation in a casket. There is no central bank in the world that will have managed inflation serving a government like the one that just left. Once again Emefiele did not ask Nigerians to instal a rubber stamp Legislature that approved every financial indiscretion that came its way. Their counterparts in the US fought tooth and nail to have Biden's excessive spending curtailed to give the Federal Reserve a fighting chance at reining in inflation and today they are well underway. |
Femeto:He tried abeg. Made a number of interventions with the defence beaten. The second goal was a super shot and deflected for that matter. BTW. Eagles have bundled in a third.... |
wiseone28:Yep....and you can see the impact absorbing 'seeds' bouncing with every ball. It is those seeds that wreck havoc on the body when a player crashes on it. |
Let us be honest with ourselves.... Nigeria soccer has fallen.... badly. Many nations have caught up and passed us by while we played the fiddle. |
2-2... what a goal.... |
Nigeriagood:Hammy issues. Better for him. Last time he came he copped an injury and see what it did to Napoli's season.... poof went the Champions league. |
wiseone28:Artificial turf. FIFA will not have allowed this. |
quickly:Apparently the coach will not see this until they equalise then he will rush changes. |
prinsam30:Can the NBC issue a query to DSTv for this mess.... since we have collectively decided to adopt DSTV as our national broadcaster. |
Keeper bravely off his line again to save a ragged defence.... cool.... ![]() |
Chai.... Aribo. The coach should see that he is being over run in the midfield nau. |
Good keeping. Smart off his line. |
Abeg they should not injure our Osimen for us. It has been a long, long time since we had an A-list baller in our squad. |
Nigeriagood:Will Peseiro say he did not watch that tournament. And if he did why hasn't he tried any of them in the train up for this campaign. I just don't understand how soccer Nigeria is run but this cannot be right. Other countries just donot have the exclusivity in their senor teams the way we have. As a matter of fact in one of the Euro Qualifiers played yesterday I overheard the commentator referring to a player who was going to join the u21 camp of his country as soon as the qualifiers runs its course. Many players in European teams play for the senior and junior teams at the same time gathering remarkable experience in the process. Here we are satisfied with cliques as if there are two NFF's. |
Nigeriagood:Do you know how much Peseiro earns as coach or manager or whatever. is that not enough for him to scout for talent and begin to integrate them. Look at a player like Ndidi for example. This guy has been great for many years but even the blind sees he is declining. Yet we have not identified a younger player we can confidently say is waiting in the wings. Look at other national teams and see two, three players of almost equal talent and ability for each position but look at our bench. It has remained static for many years now, no new players coming in despite all the money spent on junior teams and all the tournaments they have played. U-21 has just ended. There were a few good players there. Was any invited to this team's camp? Our senior team is too stale and un-competitive. And this lack of push from new talent is causing this team to be complacent. |
prinsam30:Soccer Nigeria cannot see that the guy has reached the highest levels of performance he can muster for years now and cannot do more yet they cannot find a better replacement. We don't retire or replace people until they 'surrender' by themselves. |
Spoke too soon about the keeper. That was 'saveable' nau.... ![]() |
Nigeriagood:Where has he been all this while. Hope he will be a lot better. They should also try out that u-21 keeper that went to Argentina. Seemed a bit composed. |
Who scored the second goal.... DSTv is just wack. Na to announce tariff increase dem sabi. |
It is like DSTv went to Liberia with only one camera. We can't even get closeups of the players. Who is keeping for us. Hope its not that shaky shaky that played against United as his bucket A-list. |
Chukwueze really needs to improve. His game is not progressing. |
Reussite:Seen it. Osimen scores. |
Artificial turf.... ![]() |
The match is on. Thank goodness. |
It is a big shame that despite the huge market they enjoy in Nigeria they cannot televise our matches. Just to show how serious they take us and how far we have fallen. |
Same thing that happened last regime. They started by raiding left and right. That is the way our so called democratic governments treat institutions, an expose on the 'personalisation' of government. This is how the rot starts.... from the head. That is why for the trillions stolen, mismanaged and wasted, for the hundreds of thousands of lives carelessly lost.... less that a handful of men and women have payed the penalty and done any time whatsoever for horrendous crimes committed against the state and the people of Nigeria. |
