lexy2014:Ask them..... about what is left, after the former Accountant General helped himself to 30 billion and till today no one knows where he is and what has become of the case. A country where budgets are made without citizen input to deliver projects they don't need or will not benefit from and at costs that are out of this world.... Give them 101% Tax to GDP ratio and Nigeria will not change one bit just as dipping a basket in the ocean will not retain a teaspoon of water. The structure of the Nigerian state is not geared towards progress. |
Primitive people. Simple application of technology will have prevented this barbaric drama. |
6cence:The abusive man tied her mouth not wanting her to express her views..... ![]() |
Must be an abusive man, see how he bound the mouth of his poor wife. Doesn't want her to express her views or even utter the simple, 'I do'.... Oya wise guy, you may now remove the ![]() |
Just ruined her life. Will forever be remembered as ab exam cheat. We must all embrace quiet, private and ethical lives. |
Simple environmental problems all have pragmatic engineering solutions if lazy minded Nigerians can keep their eyes off corruption. One third of Holland would have been demolished in this case. They should go to court abeg. |
Elliotwaveforec:Can you imagine what a human being is saying.... I give up, honestly. Just brace for impact. I just hope all your personal relationships are very solid, I mean bone dry, oven baked. |
We have been screaming for action to tackle inflation since subsidy removal and no one is listening. It has to take foreign institutions to tell Nigeria what to do to prevent serious economist disaster.... and you wonder how Nigerians are called informed, sensible or even brilliant....?? |
iSense247:The Judiciary should nominate, the Legislature should vett. Most preferably a serving or retired ranking member of the bench. This is the only way to cut down the disputes and controversies and make for more political leaders determined by the ballot rather than the gavel. |
Everyone is jacking up rates to stockpile enough naira to attack the currency market. Inflation is now in full snowball mode while government that should be applying the brakes are busy playing the fiddle. I just can't understand how a government will trigger austerity and have no plan whatsoever to tackle the inflationary fallout. Yes, we need to drive on with reforms but along the way there are junctions, bends and traffic. Without brakes how do we arrive safely. Such ineptitude. |
Opolopoopolonio:So which regime has flogged your sense of humour into a coma, this one or the Buhari led government. Better lighten up before it becomes a medical condition. |
502 to 495 is a crash??...... op which type of craft are you flying.... Sounds more like turbulence to me. The flight to uncertainty popularly called ElDorado continues... |
Just eight years after fighting everyone that dared to disagree back then. Just eight years. The mystery now is how sane folks still listen to anyone who sang the praises of the man back then, thinking they are anything but totally bereft of intellect, completely misinformed and of terribly poor judgement. But alas they are still alive and kicking on all media including this one.... and still insisting they know what are saying.... |
legba1:So how was Mr. Tinubu able to change the 'culture' of fuel subsidy and the 'culture' of multiple exchange rates but cannot change the 'culture' of obnoxious, immoral and provocative gratuities paid to oligarchs for maladministration, or is not by their hands Nigeria has gotten to this sorry state of poverty and rampaging insecurity...? Is it me causing it.? If Nigeria was doing well who will care. What has been the product of their terms well spent in charge. If they had succeeded in securing and prospering the nation will they need all these..... answer. Because your reward system is completely inverted and does not encourage performance. |
Government is just not ready to offer anything to right the ship of State, absolutely nothing. They cannot afford anything for the citizens except 'largesse' for the few they fear, the few they respect, and unfortunately the few that are hardly in need and in truth have helped themselves beyond measure while they served. For those who are apt in comparing the inadequacies of the common man compared to his counterparts abroad in sacrificing for their nations, I hope they can compare what their retiring civil and military servants get compared to ours. Useless feudal society we live in. Just disgusting. |
SangoOlukosoOba:Well by the next elections the people will determine that. As far as I am concerned, education is not consumption, it is the foundation for development and as such is beyond the pay grade of the Executive. It is beyond the whims and caprices of any ONE president. And that is why I say whatever proposals they have to change the status quo on the funding should be forwarded to the Legislature for consideration and debate so that the people agree with the course of their own future. Once again. Education is not consumption, it is investment. Let Nigerians by themselves decide how they want their citizens to be educated. |
SangoOlukosoOba:You cannot know that without transparency in government and without debate in parliament. The best you can do is to speculate as to what government can and cannot afford and what you as a citizen consider to be a priority which may not necessarily be the priority of government. Subsidies on education can never be placed in the same boat as subsidies on consumption. Education is a fundamental right and as such funding should be open for debate just as is happening in the US concerning student loans and the lot. |
I think it is time the National Assembly wakes up to assert its authority and starts to project the views of the people. There are several things the government is doing that are subject to debate and deliberations in other climes. Surely the funding of college or higher education SHOULD BE UP FOR DEBATE and not decided by Executive fiat because education is a fundamental right. And although it is understandable that government cannot possibly provide free higher education for all, whatever decisions are finally taken must be agreed first by all citizens after thoroughly exhausting all other options. |
Skyview01:I don't blame them. They are looking for political holes to bury their heads in and rocks to crawl under and hide. They don't want to face the responsibility and stress of governance, but seek to rope in others into their manifesto as if all Nigeria is governing with them. We saw that a lot in the last regime. They trumpet every little success and look around to blame others for their failings. Once again it is just a pity that political opposition remains infantile and ignorant in this democracy, if not they will have used propaganda to steam roll the government and battered their image severely with superior ideas. This is one big mistake we continue to make in this country. There is no progress in autocratic rule. There is no leadership that knows it all, there is no development without consensus. |
Flets:No sir, I absolutely disagree. As much as floating is highly risky, perhaps even suicidal in an unproductive economy, mere devaluations (which I call kicking the can down the road or sweeping the problem under the carpet) is equally meaningless and totally destructive in a regime of institutional failure and poor corporate governance. It assumes everyone will be ethical and accountable. Such is not Nigeria. We have devalued deliberately many, many times and it has done nothing to enhance the management of our currency exchange regime. Moreover it has put more resources outside the control of government and made the CBN of no consequence. Floating is just leveling the playing field and the competition to determine who is most efficient at generating productivity. |
That is good news hopefully to disuade speculators from attacking the naira. These are the things the CBN should be on top of, the kind of news that should come from them to calm markets. No, they are just sitting on their hands or typically busy crafting the latest scheme to record heists. Governance is just too poor in this country. We should be getting briefs from the CBN on a daily basis if truly they are in control, if truly they know what they are doing. |
That is good news hopefully to disuade speculators from attacking the naira. |
Fujiyama:I just cannot understand. People are dancing to the fiddle this government plays while inflation burns.... folks, serious problems are coming if governance dies not start in earnest. Because from where I stand I cannot see the strategy to move this country forward. Nigeria is literally hanging at the moment. |
Just tie yourself to the dock so that even if they set sail while everyone is asleep you will be sure. |
He has done a lot of positive things. The reforms were swift and clinical, something no other regime has been able to achieve. What has been lacking is the purposeful economic governance that follows, to make the reforms stick. Inflation is the primary enemy and it will define this regime's success going forward. My fear is that if inflation cannot be tamed on time it will severely damage his chances and that of his party of retaining power. In the face of such daunting challenge some of the reforms may end up being rolled back and Nigeria's economic fortunes heading back to Egypt. So far so good, but.... |
NOETHNICITY:The time for politicking is over. Sensible people know the times we live in. Making governance harder for himself isn't wise. You will soon find that out. The problems are yet to emerge. |
richmond500:Body language. As the Chief Marketer of Reforms he should walk the talk. That is simply what leadership is all about. What message is he sending to his officials present and future if he cannot caution them. His present crusade appears to be about 'us v them'. That we alone are the wasters of the resources of the country. There is no defending this one. It makes any sacrifices a lot harder to bear. |
Islie:'.....Dasuki, who served as NSA under former President Goodluck Jonathan, was jailed for more than four years after he was indicted by a panel for stealing $2 billion meant for the purchase of arms and ammunition for the Nigerian military. “The very corruption Buhari sought to end thrived right under his nose,” another source told BusinessDay. “They whined about how much money went under the radar under Jonathan but it seems they have questions of their own to answer,” the source, who did not want to be quoted due to the sensitivity of the matter, said....' One would have thought that after the terrible corruption under the GEJ regime lightning would not be allowed to strike twice. But fanatical support is responsible for that. It causes the citizens to avoid questioning their leaders. This is the result, individuals and their interests elevated over institutions and their responsibilities. Nigerians should be vigilant and authoritative to see a better country. They should order and guide their governments to act in their own interests and to deliver real dividends. Silence and idolatry is mere acquiescence to the horrors of maladministration. |
Adakintroy:Agree too. There is a paucity in premium top 9's in global soccer at the moment. Years of tiki-taka is biting back. |
Adakintroy:Totally agree. Arsenal is lacking in the 9 department even with this signing. I don't consider Kai to have adapted to the Premiership despite the time at Stamford Bridge. |
Parachoco:Hmmm!!!.... at the bolded. Oga democracy does not work that way. Credible citizens don't 'give', they direct leadership. That is what your counterparts in saner clime are doing right now. Just turn on your t.v and watch governance in other climes. The people are always ordering government about to do what they wan and they fight tooth and nail for that. Ah !!!!....at the capitalised. By the time the results of an unguided government manifests it will be too late to reverse the effects. To wait to see the effects of devaluations and subsidy removals without acting now will simply destroy the economy. You are gambling with runaway inflation. Inflation is what is fought tenaciously and continuously by governments. People don't wait to see an accident, they PREVENT IT. Oga, it is possible to direct a government to drive an economy positively. |
Samogloby:This is what will destroy this government and perhaps take Nigeria own with it......BUSINESS AS USUAL. There are many who are following him around that will form the new cabal and continue gorging out holes in the economy with reckless abandon. They are waiting for him in Abuja to form his cabinet. |
