adonainana:Third world thinking can only result in a third world country. He tolerated criminality to win an election and you call it 'wisdom'. Do you know it is a crime to aid and abet. That is in climes where the rule of law applies. And the fact that it takes the governor giving up his crony to expose criminality shows the governor himself cannot be held to account. And if you cannot hold your leaders to account you are doomed to suffer. Oh citizen wake up. |
The best rolling moss ever.... ![]() |
jackcanfield:How is he partisan. Is he doing what other labour leaders have not done before. I am fully for subsidy removals and have been even before principals of this government protested against it years ago but I am also completely for labour's kickback because government must be responsible and held to account. The battle ground is clear. Trillions of naira will be saved this year and going forward. How this savings will be utilized is what labour and the vast majority of Nigerians knowingly or unknowingly are fighting for. If it will be put to productive use to reflate the economy, then this country will survive. However if it will be wasted or stolen like we have witnessed this past regime then inflation will bury this country. So this government had better watch out. It has done the easy part in removing subsidy. What comes next will make it mar it and labour wants to be on top of the situation, to be vigilant, because government simply cannot be trusted with resources. Left to it's devices no Nigerian government ever does what is right. And I repeat again without fear of sounding like a broken record. 'Practically the same day Nigerians were called to make a sacrifice of a lifetime government announces that parliamentarians will be receiving a welcome/pension package running into billions of naira', folks widely considered to be overpaid, underworked and certainly not pensionable. Thus kind of attitude will define this government and will once more make or mar this country. |
Magnetic010:Oga. Whether you refine or not. When you pay less that what the market price is you are being subsidized. It was subsidies that killed the refineries in the first place and every business enterprise government owned from electricity production to airlines right from inception till now. And watch it, subsidies will kill rail transport too. So if government builds a million refineries, if it cannot make enough revenue for maintenance everything will go down sooner than later. |
okuta007:Portugal is not in the top 5 leagues. |
The noises the government should be making right now is about how to right the wrongs of government first. We did not get to this point by mistake. It is government that put us here so reforms must start there. If government is prepared to make sacrifices it will buy the support of the citizens and blunt the beak of labour. |
With all this grammar if the government cannot impose the same kind of austerity on itself as it has imposed on the country in cutting down it's waste and theft then it has another thing coming for it, simple. The real and only reason why I support subsidy removal is purely to awaken and stimulate the citizens to demand good governance out of their sufferings, not to put more money in the hands of those that cause the problems in the first place. Because all I see at present and so far is the settlement and attention primarily given to the authors and finishers of all that is wrong with Nigeria. From civil servants who stand idly by or aid the corruption that flows through their offices to political office holders who award themselves billion naira pensions as a reward for their mismanagement of the country throughout their 'careers' while bleating about for the masses to 'sacrifice'. The signs do not look good at all. |
Taigaban:They know the embarrassment about to hit them and are doing a controlled burnout. |
They are hasty to say this because the consumption data that will come out shortly will reveal the trillions stolen in over invoicing and round tripping. Criminal organisation. |
Pen to United. What the heck is Grealish doing defending. Howard Webb spotted with a big grin on his 'Red' face. Hop, skip and United scores. Game on. |
Why should the former governor have permitted anyone to build on/along the ancient city walls. Which kind of greed is that. Locations that should be preserved, promoted and sold out to bodies like UNESCO to turn into heritage sites of great tourism potentials is now made into useless stalls, shops and market sites. Vision less, indecent people everywhere you look. |
Ah, ah warris dis. Just finished some cycles in my gym only to turn on the telly and boom, game over. City have scored.... ![]() |
Yet, not one single smuggling arrest, public trial and incarceration has been made on an activity said to be a national problem. That isn't the definition of a problem but a way of life, a cultural activity. How can so many people undertake such an open practice of such huge magnitude for such a long time and still call it a crime..... One can live in this country for two lifetimes and remain befuddled about it. |
ShaqFu:She knows who kidnapped her mother. She knows who she vexed, perhaps did not pay or agree with to 'cookbook'. It is not a question of business name. Business names do not attend interviews, submit proposals or invoices, people do. Let us get serious in Nigeria. Companies may be prosecuted but it is individuals that go to jail. And except there is a larger conspiracy, and except she too has committed a felony in cahoots warranting blackmail, there is no reason why she cannot name names and seek redress even on a personal level. Trillions of naira have gone somewhere. She knows where. Someone, some people, somewhere are sitting on those ill-gotten monies as we speak. She knows them. |
Ma'am. For you and all those before and after you. You pay them, there are accounts where your money goes. You are not doing dead drops of suitcases full of diamonds as subsidy payments in the bush. You say you hate paying them because of the massive fraud. Now you say they kidnapped and tortured your mum, and did this and that. Yet for over thirty years we don't know who these people are. People we all claim to dislike, both citizens and government. So who the hell are these people. Our common enemies that have caused us so much pain individually and collectively as a nation. Are they some kind of alien race from Neptune or what..... Some sort of Men in Black of unknown origin. I just don't get it. If this thing has been one grand heist since 1992 How come it simply cannot be identified and stopped. Or at the very least the perpetrators revealed. Ma'am how can you say this. These are people YOU KNOW. Why can't you simply name them. |
zeyt:Feudalism.... pure and simple. When you see hailers on this forum and in the greater society that have sold their conscience and lost every sense of objectivity remember the bleeding, featherless chicken that is fed corn drops. They have no choice. The best palliative on the other hand that a government can provide its people is a well run, productive economy where effort is rewarded with progress across board in an egalitarian manner. This is fundamentally not possible in this case simply because the structure of Nigeria does not lend itself to that. Mr. Tinubu should get his facts right. Nigeria is not Lagos. Three quarters of this country by geography and population is not productive. Unfortunately there is equal representation from that 75 percent in sharing the proceeds of the productive 25 percent and he will soon discover that the bulk of the support he has enjoyed are from folks not ready to be productive and will blackmail him into continuing the status quo of patronage, rent seeking and institutional mercantilism. The first signs are clear. The hasty rebuttal or denial of the currency devaluation or freedom of the naira from its hostage to those who want to live like kings without kingdoms. The ones who have stolen billions from subsidy but cannot be reached. Those are the people that will make or mar his administration. And make any dreams he has for a better country of little to no effect. |
Good morning folks. On the 4th Day AS (After subsidy) how are you folks doing. Very pleasant here in Abuja. Roads are free of traffic. Everything has a benefit. Palliatives... ![]() Here they come again with their phantom promises to ghost recipients. |
Blestedo75:Naso. It is cause for celebrations.... isn't it.... ![]() See the kind of badge of honour citizens are 'proud' to wear. |
So the tussle for the third seat at the hierarchy to lead this country is between Uzor Kalu and Akpabio. Between a pardoned felon and a serial kleptomaniac..... both having outstanding warrants with law enforcement.... in a race to lead Nigeria as Lawmaker in Chief.... of a country expected to develop..... I just wonder.... honestly. Once again the terrible system, the calamitous structure Nigeria operates has ensured the dregs have risen to the top. The worst of the worst are put in charge. That the long suffering citizens of Nigeria are left between the rock and a hard place, a choice between worse and worst to lead time and again. When foreigners say this is a country of the 'fantastically corrupt', advocates of the status-quo will be up in arms but how they love their oppressors and fight amongst themselves for who can kiss the dirtiest arse the most. Just a day after gasoline subsidies were removed leaving scores of commuters stranded and unable to get to work and streets in Abuja swept free of the long suffering masses, the government had the temerity to announce a farewell cum welcome package of a whole 30 billion naira for parliamentarians..... such an insult by people who claim the country is broke. Why won't they seek to impose criminals in office to perpetuate their plunder. |
ShaqFu:But this is the simple reason why you change governments in a democracy. If for nothing to break the cycle of corruption and create the fear of prolonging it. Can't you see what is happening in Kano. Even if they may not be able to bring the perps to book at least there will be revelations. But at the Federal level to expect this government to break the cycle of those deeply embedded in corruption the past 8 years is simply wishful thinking. No one will be probed from the Buhari era government no matter what they did and a number of them will continue in their corrupt practices. The bolded I know and have seen up close in the past few weeks for a fact. |
Now. Reports like this is why people just do not trust government and will not wait for a so called 'better economy' resulting from their sacrifices. It is not today that their sacrifices have been poo-pooed so they want subsidies to remain. People say, taxation is low and Nigerians resist contributing to their common prosperity. These are the simple reasons why. Without accountability and probity the chicken and egg argument will continue. No nation on earth will allow a man who stole 30 billion in public funds under trust to walk free on any grounds. And no group of citizens will accept this and the burdens of crippling economic sacrifices simultaneously without responding. |
nurex01:This is the big problem. With very little accountability, the lack of a truly independent legislature and ineffectual political opposition there is a serious threat that more funds to government simply means more corruption, more waste and a fatter, more bloated government. Naturally, in functional democracies the more the citizens are taxed and stressed (subsidy removals is taxation) the more they hold their governments to account and dictate how and on what money is spent on. But Nigeria is a feudal state so the President can spend as he likes on what he likes through whom ever he likes and few will check him. So benefits can all be lost. This is the history of Nigeria. The bigger the resources the fatter the fat cats. |
taneez:This is not a float. It is a depreciation. Same as raising gasoline prices was never the same as subsidy removal or free market. With time reality catches up and a return to the status quo happens. Whether we like it or not, the black market rate is the closest to the real value of the naira. This is the value that encapsulates the entire economy both formal and informal, government and private in all forms of economic activity. As long as there is a gap between the official and 'real' rate the Nigerian will exploit it. As long as there is a gap the average foreign exchange earner will seek to sell at the higher rate. He will not sell to banks. So if the government is serious about dealing a final fatal blow to the black world of Nigeria's economy it has to match the black market rate stride for stride and better it in some cases. Let the rates reflect the state, simple. Bit the way it is now, 750 to 630 is still attractive enough in a highly impoverished economy. |
How did they arrive at 630 in the first place. We need to know the details of this. If it to chase the black marketers then the CBN had better have enough in it's warchest or the black rate will surge after a while. Though 750 to 630 will reduce illegitimate profits from round tripping but the gap remains too wide to exert enough pulling power to crush the black market. A full float is what Nigeria needs. Depreciation alone is not enough. |
Halftime. Roma saved by the bell. Second half will be do or die for Sevilla. In the other corner will be the Prime Minister of Anti football at work. |
Rakitic hammers one in.... so unlucky. Game on. Heating up. |
Iseoluwani:The man is making mountains out of mole hills. The Roma players save Dybala are just wack but he just manages to extract results out of them. Great manager. |
rickpat:You will expect that when citizens are under pressure they will hold their government and leaders to a higher level of scrutiny and accountability. But no. They are busy throwing ethnic bric-bats while the savings accrued from the end of subsidy is shared by the invading army of contractors and Abuja fat cats. Watch and see how a new set of overnight 'briefcase billionaires' emerge in the next few weeks and months. |
HIGHESTPOPORI:Exactly what I have been saying. In a proper democracy you need not govern to rule. Same thing in the US. The Republican party is the go to reference for everything happening in the country though it is not in power. And that is why it is important for opposition parties to quickly set up office to exploit this and not just wait till six months before elections when it is too late to influence popular opinion. Peter Obi and Atiku should constitute 'governments in waiting' and have technocrats in the face of the media 24/7 pushing their ideas and ideologies to balance the power of the ruling party. This is the only way Nigeria can really progress. |
This means an average expenditure of N10,000 per day on gasoline for moderate to heavy commuters.... no problem. Just past it on. It is called inflation. Government should make plans for bottom feeders to avoid insecurity. |
tinsel:Well, every sin has a price and the wages of political sin is emotional guilt, which will haunt you guys for a long time to come. |
