None of my business. Said enough. |
The moment they say 'hustle' just know they are talking about crime. Please if you don't have anything worthwhile doing there by way of internationally recognized, well structured and formal competencies, please just stay here. The damage 'hustlers' are doing to the image of this country is just appalling. I am not impressed. |
Mrfeel:I don't think it was the bills that irked him according to the report but the terrible red tape. Pushing him from one turnstile to another like he was buying a nuclear weapon. Public hospitals in this country are terribly structured and poorly managed particularly when it concerns administration and records. I once had a minor procedure at LUTH on those days and it was terrible. The laboratory is like a kilometre away from the pharmacy and that is another trip round the world from Consulting and another trek across the Sahara to the OPS. And this was supposed to be a flagship medical institution yet as at that time there was zero connectivity between departments. I just hope it has all changed but medicare in this country, public care can literally make you sick. |
From the report, I don't think the government should arrest him. Granted he was unruly and that is a clear case if assault but for heaven's sake they made him jump through hoops after a bereavement. This is totally uncalled for. You should be providing him counsel at that point in time not pushing him from one billing kiosk to another. I have been unfortunate to have witnessed such an incident involving a relative. I tell you they blamed the hospital for shoddy case management leading to the death and even after that it took hours for them to provide a closing bill running into a couple of millions. Who is in the mood for that. The healthcare system in Nigeria is just not good enough. Hospitals should consider post mortem counselling as a erious and necessary service. The man should apologize and everyone moves on. He should not be arrested. It is unfair. |
Look who is saying another is desperate. Who has been more desperate to rule this country and continue ruling after a poor term in office than this party and this President. Remember the '16 years of PDP', this and that. Well, very soon it will be 12 years of APC and we are still a world away from where they met the situation of the country by almost all indices. There is hardly anything you can lay your finger on that is better today than it was in 2015. Apart from the recurrent ASUU strikes, nothing is better. So who is desperate. |
But you are not paying enough taxes to complain nau.... ![]() |
Game of musical chairs. When they leave power and you get there, detain them too without charges. They have enough stories to tell from the weekly escapades coming out of their circles. That is why I will never, ever forget that old advert of Foster's Larger. Check it out. |
Hmmm....I don't know which scenario is closer, tell me folks between, 'the goat and the farmer team up.to boost yam production'..... or 'the coyote and the herder team up to boost goat meat production'....?!*!!?*#?!!.. ![]() |
Parachoko:Very good news. Do your part. Lay the foundation rather than sitting down and waiting for so called 'foreign investor' to come with foodstuff and cooking pot while you focus on the tombo. |
Should be a first in the storied history of Nigeria. One thousand ways to die indeed, episode #3654....'Quarrel with the Driver in a Public Bus' You sure that 'preaching in the bus' will not have saved us from this traji-drama....just asking for a friend.. ![]() |
bestman09:They will adjust, starting with offering better services to 'fight' for market share. If they cannot, they will fade, but it is entirely unreasonable to expect they will disappear all together. There is no single transport system that fits all situations. Even in western, developed countries with good infrastructure spread there are still cabs and coaches operating inter and intracity. What the break in monopoly does is that it just raises standards across board. And no better standard will please me as much as that of highway trucking and truck drivers....if only we can effect a national rail link, all these drugged up crazies that run around killing and maiming folks on the highways, will fade away. |
anonimi:With good planning and execution these are 'commercial' ventures that will repay themselves and can even generate revenue down the line so the overall impact on the economy can only be positive. Social services on the other hand ate long term, open ended, continuous commitments that have no immediate impact. They are not the same. Yes, social services are part and parcel of any political social contract but to make these investments easier the government should try and invest in money making ventures as well. Just like Lagos Metro. It has the potential of a steady income for the LASG in the future if managed properly. |
ntyce:You need a master plan if you want synergy across borders. You need to synergize routes, standards and specifications as regarding equipment, control, etc. You need a railway type commission. If not you will have issues like the historical, almost comical ones between Spain and France where the trains from one of these countries cannot run on the tracks of the other making passengers switch trains at the borders and cargo traffic almost impossible. You say Lagos state. Those are commuter trains operating there not intercity trains. They are not the same thing. |
ntyce:Absolutely. We need economic campaigns to insist on these. |
NIGERIAJAGAJAGA:That is what we have been saying. The Federal government acts as the master planner, the ombudsman, regulator and states develop rail networks within and to their borders. Within no time the country will be interconnected with a transport system far more efficient than all these roads they spend so heavily to build and maintain. Then you roll out the law that forbids cargo from being hauled more than 100 kilometres (for instance) by road. You will then see how long the roads will last and that 30 year and 50 year old roads and highways are possible. We waste too much money in this country doing the wrong things. Do you know that there is more steel in one metre of concrete roads than there is in one metre of rail line. Yet that rail line will last several times more before being replaced. |
Wow, this is fantastic. Best news I've heard in a while. With a good network plan it will render all these long haul trucking completely obsolete and bring down drastically the cost of production and trade. |
Greatzeus:That is because they do not have comprehensive plans. They are not envisioned to see expenditure as investments rather than welfare. They do not see education as developmental tools. In the years, the generation gone by, the rural farmer, the petty trader will send his child to school first for the education that will enhance the family business before any other consideration towards the future of the child. The government that has plans on how to transform the state, the country, will put their money in education, the kind that fits their objectives. |
Good. But when will you kickstart the industrial investment quest that will deliver the trillion naira economy we frequently hear about from that side. Before universities you need to envision where the products will go. What the products will do on graduation. Education without exposition will lead to terrible frustration Mr. Governor, so plan an integrated program to industrialize, educate and then empower. By the way you gain the most traction, most bang for your investment buck if the universities are essentially STEM based. Not wasting resources of things like philosophy, journalism, law and other money pits. Train your people to provide the water, the power, the infrastructure, the technologies to drive industry, job and economic force multipliers. |
Like their uniforms though. Looks a lot better and neater than the Ops uniforms of our policemen here in Nigeria. |
Kobojunkie:No please, this is wrong. If I was out and about with a young male in my company it will be termed offensive to the lad and I will have every right to complain. If you were out and about with a girl or young lady and accosted a man with his privates all hanging out you will term it offensive and have every right to call such person to order and/or make a complaint. There are public decency laws in most countries I know. Forget the fact that law and order in Nigeria is a failed estate. You will not get very far dressed like that on the streets of London or New York, highly liberal countries. |
This has been one big let down about the Obi Presidency that I have noted many times before and is becoming very evident the closer we get to yet another polls. The man is just.berwgt if a blueprint for just about every serious issue out there and even worse, every item he is opinionated about. Very scanty, watery and microscopic solutions. I have said it times without number. The enormous sums they spend on political charity could be better spent on intellectual doves into the cauldron called Nigeria plc. Form, craft, employ, engage think tanks to scour this country and the rest of the world for solutions, solutions, solutions. So that you will be a true government in waiting and battle the forces of the status quo ideologically. For his supporters. Spare me the tale of not wanting to disclose so as not to confer the power to plagiarize and copy to the government. Because that is what ideology in politics is all about. Having such radical ideas, such different posture that the opposition just cannot stomach it, thoughtless of stealing those ideas. Let the people then decide whether these ideas are worth the risk. Already the present government has shown ALL.ITS WORKINGS. It cannot do better than this so it is a huge advantage for folks like Obi to better what is on offer or effect radical yet positive changes. Afterall they say than in an athletic race it is a lot harder staying in front than catching up with the race leader. So disappointed that we are not offered a lot more than this. |
nairalanda1:I don't mock people. I criticize government principally. Been doing that for decades. And the fact that one is still in this business shows that no lessons have been learnt ever since. The statistics are there for everyone to see and feel. Nigeria is not getting better. I said it years ago. More money to government simply means more money through the wicker basket. I just pity the long suffering taxpayer who is forced to swallow this bile. You create a business, work hard, make enormous personal and corporate sacrifices to be socially responsible in paying your taxes and then see this kind of thing your fellow man is doing. Someone even suggested to you earlier that there are SUV's for half a billion meaning that the proposed empowerment is well placed. Even such sorry folks I won't mock, just pity them. |
nairalanda1:And who is going to agree to pay taxes after seeing this kind of report.....Nigerians are really docile.... honestly.... just disgusting. Meanwhile you always talk about investment, investment, investment....but can you see that the government is not on that page. Their SCARCE, INADEQUATE tax naira they waste. Instead of using SCARCE TAX NAIRA to do as the Chinese did decades ago by investing in the tools of productivity as envisioned on a grand scale like building power plants, these reprobate, visionless, ignoramuses are doing EMPOWERMENT aka political bribery. Then they go looking for a dumb ass foreigner to provide the basic tools for living and doing business. Whenever power goes out I hope they can connect their factories to their nifty SUV's to become competitive....as per the other post earlier today. |
9jatriot:That's great. Fantastic incidents of positive actions and achievements. Then the next things to do is to put them out there for public understanding and assessment to see whether the non aligned Nigerian citizen that is perpetually between and betwixted will accept these as progress, as dividends of democracy, as worthy of universal approval. I don't know whether the Nigerian I know will collectively take each of those points as success. |
9jatriot:Results like what... What are the results at the AGM of Nigeria plc that the shareholders are expecting... What are the parameters....the metrics... Because I really don't know what Nigerians agree to accept of their leaders. No two Nigerians can agree on what constitutes forward motion....or progress... I mean you can't blame me. My last visit here was to a post on state sponsored mass weddings. Thinking that if there is enough resources for that, surely there must be to finance security, education, health, etc, the MDG goals in a nutshell...are |
Princedapace:One very angry taxpayer here. Don't blame you at all. It is very disheartening. But If you don't pay and their treasuries are empty they will still take foreign loans for these frivolities and you will end up paying through inflation. That is why we have cried out for decades. That without restructuring, this nation can never find the commonality in values to framework development. What you see as progress id not shared universally. No society tugging in different directions can become great. That is just the truth. Just manage Nigeria till you grow old and eventually join your ancestors. Nigeria just cannot develop. |
None of my business. You have a government you can call to account. Your fellow citizens have given you folks endless advice on what to do to save yourselves. In a few months they will come with tee-shirts and bags of rice. I will wait to see what you will do in response to their requests for further empowerment to more time in office. |
deanoffaculty:But that is also how your country rolls while borrowing from the biggest Opay's of the world. Mark you the 70, 80, 90 percent of our income they say going back to them annually out of budget is for 'servicing' the debts, that is paying interest on the loans...or in layman's terms keeping the money pipeline flowing , not in repaying the loans. That is for your children's children yet unborn to pay, long after the greedy leaders and their retinue of corrupt contractors have long died and turned to dust. And the white elephants they built have fallen into disrepair and turned to dust as well. |
Pity that the financial industry is not fully integrated and locked under a universal credit agency so that banks become musketeers....one for all and all for one. Then you will have nowhere to run. Loan default is a serious thing. That is why the Holy Book makes it clear. Avoid borrowing like your life depends on it. Because in reality it does. See what it has done to this country. |
Abeg, abeg, abeg, pass this memo to Mr. Cost Reflective, not for me. When China was building one coal power plant every two weeks a couple of decades back the world was laughing and scoffing and our government was seeking to raise energy tariffs everywhere instead of similar investments to reduce the cost of production. Guess what, global industry has moved to China because is the cheapest place to make stuff, leading to massive factory closures in the West and rampaging unemployment due to non competitiveness is the third world. Here Government has absconded from its responsibilities to focus on concrete roads as if it is the 'be all' and 'end all' of economic recovery. Just build concrete roads and the economy and will prosper they say....how far. Guess what, the threat of even higher energy tariffs in Nigeria remains and the people are criticised for NOT PAYING ENOUGH so that the market can be attractive to so called foreign investors. But the same food that should attract foreign investment is the poison that is killing local and existing investors. Ask China if any power plant in their country belongs to foreign investors. To develop you must LAY THE FOUNDATION BY YOURSELF. Spend your critical dollar on seeding industry by investing YOURSELF in reliable, cost effective energy. No one will give you foodstuff for free and then find firewood for you to cook it. |
A certain Honourable Minster of All Manner of 'Works' just joined the group chat... ![]() |
Cool. Now for the men. It's time to end the era of the famous/infamous Barbers shop. One of my childhood's chamber of horrors. |
