Evolution in real time. |
The day has ended I have come back to check if someone has arrived at what the Cost Reflective tarrif is...is it N300 per kwh, 400, 500, 800, 1,000, 10,000 naira per kwh. In the petroleum sector (BSR) we used to hear that our gasoline was the cheapest in the world and it was x,y,z compared to a,b,c in saner climes. Why can't we do same for power since the interests say our electricity is too cheap and doesn't reflect the cost of producing it. So WHAT IS THE REAL COST OF 1kwh. Can anyone venture that so that we know just how far away we are from the utopia. How far behind we are to sanity. |
Some of the deadliest diseases in history from the the black plague in the middle ages to typhus in the 20th century, to our all too familiar Lassa Fever....after the humble mosquito the rat takes the cake as public enemy number 2. Please if you sight a rat nearby, give no rest to your eyes till you pronounce it dead and buried. As for contaminated food, the advice is to stick to a particular vendor when buying cold foods. The street is unforgiving, the night time street market is playing Russian roulette with your life. |
Yampotatocarrot:Oga, you just got the nail on the head and it returns to exactly what I started out saying. Electricity is drifting away from the telecoms model where rates are agreed between stakeholders, consumers, regulators and service providers in a fair and equitable manner to the petroleum model where prices/tariffs change on the fly, according to 'external forces'. That is the fact that Nigerians have to grasp. What makes their electricity bills going forward are beyond the industry, perhaps beyond the government regulators. So it will not be a question of the tariff rates investors will be looking at but one of the overall economy and the capacity to afford the service they offer. |
I thought maybe I was crazy or something so I went back to the internet and it's there. 225kwh is the COST REFLECTIVE TARIFF for electricity in. Nigeria. This was a claim by the NERC a year and a half ago. Okay, top it up to reflect inflation, fine. People will pay. So what is the fuss. I repeat again. In that time period more consumers have been moved to Band A (with or without their consent) than have moved in the opposite direction despite poorer services. So revenues to DISCO's should be rising and the revenue gap shrinking. If they want to place everyone on Band A they should just make that distinction clear. But if they really mean that the tariffs on Band A et al, are not cost reflective and a blanket tariff increase is coming then they lied a year and a half ago. And they should come out CLEARLY to tell us what the REAL COST REFLECTION is. We cannot continue to chase our tails. Countries are not run like this. |
nairalanda1:So what is the cost reflective tariff since you are an expert in this field. Put a figure on this and let the government set it there. Nigerians will pay. Nigerians have always payed. But I assure you that before the year ends you will hear that they are still subsidizing. They said (no one forced them to) that Band A was zero subsidy. So what has happened. No one is abusing anyone here. If you are under pressure. It is because you are trying to simplify a very complex situation and make the average citizen the villain. But the truth is that everything rate and tariffs that this government has intended to increase, it has. |
Oracleee:Just poor regulatory governance everywhere you look. I dare say increase the tariff five, ten, twenty fold. You will see no change whatsoever between your reality and the claims they make. They will always come up with a reason down the line as to why what they increased it to was not enough. And they are subsidizing you. |
nairalanda1:So what is the cost reflective, subsidy free tarriff in the energy sector. If you or the government or the service providers themselves know they should say. Because in reality I haven't found anyone who can say. A while ago they said Band A was zero subsidy, today we are hearing it is not. This is despite the claim s of government to have stabilized the exchange rate over two of the three plus years in office So at worst Band A remains at the same rate, perhaps a little hike due to inflation. Can you vouch for this. Before you answer, remember that since the tariff splitting, month by month consumers on other bands have been railroaded into Band A despite same quality of service. |
nairalanda1:And what is 'Investor' going to do. Gasoline subsidies were removed to encourage 'investor'. This is three years. Where are the 'investor'. The one that managed to start has pushed for ever higher prices of his products. So please fly this.kite somewhere else. That economic theory saying higher prices equating to affordability or better services WILL NOT HAPPEN. It simply does not work in an economy of weak institutional governance. Banks declare trillions in revenue, billions in profit, data that do not correlate with the economy or the people it serves. Then you begin to ask yourself what these so called investments are all about. |
bigdammyj:No. He is being shielded by his boss and his boss will be shielded by his boss, up and up the food chain till it lands on the laps of he who has the right to hite and fire. Check his bosses account. You will likely find multiples of that sum. Rotten system we operate. And they will sit down and claim th need to call anyone borrowing to finance their thieving budgets and berate the ling suffering common man that he is not paying enough taxes. We are a very docile people in this country. Folks live hand to mouth, businesses are collapsing or in the doldrums. Officials are stealing blindly, yet the people cheer them on...... Never have I seen such an evil under the sun, according to the Holy Book. |
Now it's time to dip his feet into the murky waters of club management. Try Chelsea FC, the ultimate test of sanity. |
femi4:Glad you said 'parent'. Which means it is a precursor of that experienced by the child. If you cannot get the first right, the quality of the subsequent will certainly be less than ideal. |
preciousMI1:This is not a chicken and egg conundrum. The second relationship ever to exist according to the Holy Book is one between Adam and Even. Man and wife. This is the most important relationship. It is the foundation of every subsequent existence. And that is why it is the most delicate, difficult and open to the most attacks. |
Fewer Nigerians care about this than ten years, five years even a year ago when there was much hope about his venture into the petroleum sector. Turning out to be a bit of a damp squib and archetypical of his other ventures and calling into question whether the capitalist model of large scale private industrialization drive will actually translate into a better economic experience for all. Are we doomed to be a 'trading' and procurement country. |
moje4:Popularity, not pure performance based selection. Just like politics. |
Hot air vote. Change Haaland for Oyazarbal or even Kane for that matter. I rate both ahead of him in this tournament. |
Hmmm....56 ghosts in the Fed. Ministry of Works.... sure to include a few in the Honorable Minister's |
I find it interesting that the terms 'rich' and 'wealth' are used interchangeably from the penultimate to the very top category. I always consider riches to be what the Holy book says though in a contemporary manner. That is having a lot. While wealth to me is the ability to generate a lot. I never see wealth in terms of currency.but what is intrinsic in a body, that is persons, groups or entire nations. So you can make riches out of wealth but a rich man without the ingredients to wealth making with ebb and flow between the grades highlighted. When you hear about politicians that steal in billions but live near penury in time, you know the difference. |
Yeah, we all know that except you are a kid. Once elections are over expect a rise in the cost of gasoline and a decline in the value of the naira due to the present subsidies. Meaning that the tax drive will go haywire and your kids will need to fork out more for government educational services Nigerian democracy 101. Second tenures are always worse for the people since 1999. |
That is the reality. Those on the ground and not having their noses up the Federal rear end see an entirely different picture. And I repeat, I travel a lot and across the social strata. A large swathe of people are simply forced to adjust, seeing the standards of living slipping away and poverty rising everyday. It is really dark out there. |
Legitbeauru:Trust me. The moment you gain traction and start pulling the rotten house down, Nigeria will revert to the default status of ethnicity and religion. Nigeria does not and has not lacked social activism and activists all through her history. But the end is usual. That is why I often say that is may be better to let the people starve to near death so that they will be willing to plants and nurture this desert into a fertile field. At this point I think only a revolution can change this country. |
Isobug:Of course it is your money. What does she do for a living and such earnings. |
Just watch 'Gangs of New York' if you don't understand. Guaranteed that you will. Just hope this country will emerge from the darkness one day. |
How can you be 'appealing' to a person you elected. What kind of hapless feudal mindset is this. Do you appeal to your employee to do the job he was employed for. It is the government that should be appealing for calm and reassuring the public that it is working round the clock on a way to end the crises. |
Me too. I did garri, garri, garri because dad was funding the struggle....c'mon veep, what is all this pity partying about. A country that fought two foreign wars almost simultaneously in the late 80's and 90's should have parked an aircraft carrier off the coast of the Cape to send shivers down their spines. Oh, Nigeria. What a man turned girl scout. |
I think it is just stupid to continue this war. With the way it is going it threatens to be a prolonged, multi US administration conflict suth the attendant irrecoverable deaths and destruction. Just a hopeless situation. |
RichBoy247:Sensitive or embarrassing. What is your concern, are you personally related to him or what. Most folks in Abuja back then knew about his serial escapades as Batman, the night crusader together with Jerry Boy, his side kick. |
mikeapollo:I don't understand. Which problem. If.your currency is 'stable' it means the forces of demand and supply of the currency pairs are somewhere at or near an equilibrium. That is the stability economists dearly seek to drive development. Why it is rattling Dangote. If the dollar is difficult to get, it means the naira is artificially supported and the present rate is not the true reflection of.its value....meaning currency subsidies are still going on. Thus Dangote doesn't want to be involved in all that. Are we sure we understand what is truly happening in our economy at all.... |
Ubanz:The government told us it has stabilized the exchange rate. If it is stable and as some have said 'gaining in the dollar' why is anyone afraid to trade in naira....or is there something else going on.... |
Distributors and retailers too should 'dollarize' their sales so we can start using our dollar denom debit cards and Dom accounts to buy gasoline. Fair play. |
Sheuns:Just laughing at Nigerians. A government that claims never to have enough resources. A government that claims the people deserve no economic support whatsoever. A government that claims that the tax base is too narrow and the tax depth too shallow. When they have taken all the taxes, all the subsidies, collected all the grants and loans. This is the endgame. Steal, steal and steal. Pretend to prosecute. Grant themselves bail and the case withers and dies off. A government that will postulate endlessly about your obligations but will never consider it's responsibilities. With all the evidence, what is delaying his incarceration. What is he being given bail for. What is the delay about....simple. Time enough to pervert justice, time enough for him to organise a bribe. This man like countess others before him will never see the four walls of a cell to spend a minute in jail for his crimes. A country that clearly sees it a problems but has no courage, no fortitude and no common sense to solve them. |
The FIFA World Cup has finally ended. Feels like it has been on for a year. Memories that will last a lifetime. Pity Nigeria was never a part of it.....except through Burna Boy.... Till 2030 and the Centenary...so long, farewell. It's over and out. |
