usual ranting. Ok answer this questions truthfully in your heart/head What did Ojukwu fight for ? Who was he fighting against and for what reason ? If you say he fought for igbos been killed in the North, then why did he not fight against the north ? Moreover if he is fighting for Igbos been killed in the north, What has ijaw, ibibio , efik etc got to do with Igbos and Fulanis ? Why did he invade and kill the Mid-west people, was he fighting for them as well or trying to expand his new found country ? Why did he have to fight Obj and co at ore ? What was he doing in ore at the first place ? To reach the capital when it was predominately occupied by a neutral group ? Where Ibibios, ijaws etc killed in the north as well ? Why did he not try to LOOK FOR PEACEFUL SOLUTION instead of allowing biafra people to be killed only for him to run away ? If he truely love baifra, then Why did he try to contest for the presidential seat 1999, 2003 and 2007 ? was it about power ? Why would he call Awo the best president we never had if truly Awo did all those atrocities u people cry on him ? this are the questions I don't need reply but just for you to think of and be honest because you see, to keep an open unbiased head, you need to view things from an OBSERVER POINT OF VIEW.
How many regions did we have before the war? Nigeria Football Federation will this week release the Super Eagles squad list that will prosecute the November 12 and 15 international friendly matches against Botswana and Zambia. The list, complete Sports gathered was compiled by the Technical Committee of the NFF in the absence of a substantive coach for the senior national team following the sacking of Samson Siasia last week Friday. According Chris Green, chairman of the Technical committee, the list will comprise all the players who have been playing for the Super Eagles in the recent past including Vincent Enyeama and Osaze Odemwingie among others. Green told Complete Sports on Tuesday that his committee took the decision to draw the list in view of the short time between now and the date for the two friendly matches. On the likely return of Blackburn Rovers of England striker,Yakubu Ayegbeni and Sani Kaita to the national team fold since after the South Africa 2010 World Cup finals,Green said the incoming national team handler will determine if and when such players will return to the Super Eagles. Despite Nigeria's inability to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup and the absence of a substantive national team coach,NFF lined up two international friendly games for the Super Eagles during the November FIFA international windows. The Super Eagles will host Botswana on November 12 while Zambia will test Eagles streght on November 15 with NFF considering Benin and Kaduna as venues for the two games. http://completesportsnigeria.com/news/2011/11/eagles-list-for-botswana-zambia-friendlies-out-this-week |
Manchester City are ready to offer Wycombe Nigeria-born starlet Jordan Ibe a multi-million pound package, in a bid to beat Premier League rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United to his signature. The 15-year-old shot to fame with a superb goal against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday,in his first professional start, following a series of impressive substitute appearances. Ibe's strike helped seal a place in the Wycombe history books, as their youngest ever scorer, but with a host of Premier League sides now stepping up their interest, it looks like his days as a Chairboys player are numbered. Manchester United came close to sealing a transfer in the summer, but rivals Manchester City have now made approaches to the players agent, offering a package that includes a house and car for the family, on top of a four-year development based contract. The deal is attractive, but it's thought that Ibe would prefer a move to United or Arsenal instead, despite the financial incentives being offered up by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. A switch in the forthcoming January transfer window is looking increasingly likely, but with such competition for a player manager Gary Waddock said this week can 'play at the highest level', there are a number of twists and turns still to come. http://completesportsnigeria.com/news/2011/11/city-ready-to-break-bank-for-nigerian-manchester-city-are-ready-to-offer-city-reanigeria-born-sta |

VVV-Venlo striker Michael Uchebo is being targeted by Stoke boss Tony Pulis, according to the Dutch Eredivisie club. VVV sporting director Mario Captein claims the 21-year-old will go to England for talks in the next fortnight - if the requisite paperwork can be arranged. He told Voetbal International: "They want to talk to Michael. You should see it as a sort of interview. "You always want to talk to a player before you agree to sign them. It shows at least that Stoke's interest is very serious." As for when he will visit the Potteries, Captein added: "Next week there are no matches in the Eredivisie (due to the Euro 2012 play-offs) so that would be a good time. Nigeria Under-20 international Uchebo, who at 6ft 5in would fit in with Stoke's direct style, joined VVV in 2010 from Enugu Rangers in his homeland. He is out of contract next summer. http://www.kickoff.com/news/25266/vvv-venlo-striker-michael-uchebo-to-hold-stoke-talks.php |

ABEOKUTA-The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has strongly condemned the aggressive clamour by the Federal Government to set up the so-called Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), describing the fund as illegal, unconstitutional, fraudulent and anti-federalism. In a statement issued in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said there is absolutely no argument that can justify the creation of the illegal SWF. It said any State Governor who supports the creation of the fund does not understand what federalism is all about, blatantly violates the Constitution and is therefore liable to impeachment by his or her State House of Assembly. ‘’No Governor can spend money without appropriation by the House of Assembly. Therefore, acceding to the creation of the SWF, which purportedly saves money on behalf of the states even without approval from the various Houses of Assembly, amounts to spending money without appropriation,’’ ACN said. The party explained that the creation of the SWF negates the stipulations of the Constitution, that all monies that accrue to the country must be paid into the Federation Account. ‘’The sharing formula for accruing funds, however lopsided, is clear, and no money in the Federation Account should be left unshared for whatever reason. The argument that the SWF is being set up to save for the rainy day is sheer hogwash, because you cannot save my money without my consent. The Federal Government can go ahead and save its own share of the money. ‘’In any case, every part of the country is crying for infrastructural development. Why put money aside, illegally, when there are pressing needs for the country? For example, can a father refuse to spend his entire monthly salary, if necessary, if his child is ill and needs life-saving surgery, just because he wants to save for tomorrow?’’ it queried. ACN also said the creation of the SWF amounts to taking power from the states, and suggests that the relationship between the federal and state governments is a master-servant relationship, hence the former can dictate to the latter at will. The party said it should be up to the states to determine what to do with the funds accruing to them from their share of the Federation Account, instead of being dictated to by an overbearing Federal Government. It also said even the money-saving argument to justify the creation of the SWF assumes that even the saved funds cannot be mismanaged, adding: ‘’For example, what happens if the saved funds had gone the way of the funds lent to Greece? ‘’Everything is wrong with the creation of the SWF. Right now, the Federal Government has started advertising for those who will manage the SWF. Is it doing so with the permission of the states? Should they not have an input into how their saved funds should be managed? Should the management of the funds not be jointly done?’’ queried ACN. The party noted that while there is nothing wrong with the Federal Government benchmarking prices for the sale of crude oil, it cannot keep the balance of the accruing funds. Therefore, this makes even the Excess Crude Oil account itself, a precursor of the SWF illegal. ‘’Unfortunately, it is the acquiescence, on the part of the states, to the existence of the Excess Crude Oil account that has further emboldened the Federal Government to graduate to the SWF bunkum. We are totally and unequivocally opposed to the SWF and the Federal Government should immediately jettison the plan to create the fund,’’ ACN said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/11/acn-faults-fg-on-swf/ |
By Ifenyinwa Obi LAGOS – Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, may have abandoned no fewer than 250 containers, containing vital equipment imported to boost power generation in the country, as Nigerians continue to groan under epileptic power supply. Vanguard gathered that while about 140 of such containers were abandoned at the Ports and Cargo Terminal in Tin Can, the remaining 110 containers had been moved to Ikorodu Customs port to rot away as over time cargo, having stayed for more than three years without anybody going for them. Similarly, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources has 59 abandoned containers meant for government projects, while Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, came third, with 25 containers; Delta Steel Mills has six containers; Ministry of Power and Steel, 15; Ministry of Works, 10 and Governments of Lagos, Rivers, Ondo and Delta States. Some of the containers arrived the country in 2006. It was gathered that PHCN leadership, which imported the equipment to boost power generation might have changed its mind in the belief that bringing them on board could jeopardize plans to order similar items as may be decided by management. Meanwhile, Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr Dikko Abdullahi, has warned against further abandonment of government project laden containers in the port by government agencies, stressing that such recklessness affects legitimate Customs laws as far as disposal of abandoned goods by customs was concerned. Abdullahi, who spoke weekend, during an official visit to the Ikorodu Customs Port to inspect some of the 28 containers belonging to PHCN, abandoned at the Lighter Terminal, said: “Some of these containers have been transferred to this terminal since 2006.” The last sets of containers were brought here during the port decongestion exercise in 2009. How can we rationalise spending tax payers’ money to import these containers, only to abandon them?” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/11/phcn-abandons-250-containers-with-vital-equipment-at-ports/ |
By DAUD OLATUNJI ABEOKUTA- Barely five days after three persons lost their lives in a fracas involving rival leaders of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in a popular motor park in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, three others have been confirmed dead in a renewed clash between the feuding members of the union in Ijebu-ode. Also, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Femi Allen-Taylor, narrowly escaped death when an armed gang attacked him last weekend on his way to his friend’s house in Kobiti, Abeokuta . The factional leaders fighting for supremacy were simply identified as Aweda and Efele, One of the victims of the fresh mayhem said to have erupted at Epe motor park yesterday was one Gbenga Odubona. It was gathered that the violence was a reprisal attack carried out by one of the factions in a bid to avenge the death of one of its supporters allegedly killed as a result of the rivalry within the union. Confirming the violence, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the State Police Command, Mr Muytiwa Adejobi said the two innocent persons and a member of the NURTW lost their lives in the fracas. Adejobi said Commissioner of Police, Nicholas Nkemdeme had directed the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders in the state to police parks and garages in the state. According to him “the CP has given directives to DPOs and Area Commanders to always police parks and garages in the state. So, we have deployed enough men to the place and investigation will commence immediately”. Meantime, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Femi Allen-Taylor narrowly escaped death when armed bandits attacked him last weekend. The lawmaker, who sustained severe injuries on the head, is a member of the House Committee on Land Matters, which is currently investigating the activities of the immediate past administration in the state. The lawmaker, who represents Abeokuta State Constituency II, was recently arraigned by the police over alleged disturbance of peace in the state. It was gathered that the attack was carried out by four armed men who later escaped with the lawmaker’s official Toyota Avensis Car. But the car was later abandoned at Adatan area of the town. Narrating his ordeal, Allen-Taylor said that he was ordered out of the car before the bandits hit his head with the gun, resulting in severe head injuries. According to him, he was later assisted by the residents of the area who rushed him to the State Hospital, in Ijaiye, Abeokuta. He said he could not link the attack to any person or group, but thanked God for sparing his life. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said, investigations are in progress on the matter. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/11/lawmaker-escapes-death-as-3-die-in-nurtw-clash/ |
…Says BPE probe report ready soon By Inalegwu Shaibu ABUJA – As the Senate awaits the presentation of the 2012 budget to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan, there are indications that the budget may run into hitches unless there is a general pay cut in all the three arms of government. Chairman, Senate Committee, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who dropped the hint while addressing newsmen in Abuja said the Senate expected both the executive and the judiciary to comply with the need to reduce their budgets to help government cut down the high cost of governance. He said: “One thing is certain, we have reached a consensus between the executive and legislature that the cost of running the government is too high and that there will be a need to cut down the cost of government and I think that, that will be the general trend in this particular budget. So, we are looking forward to seeing the budget and how much has been cut in terms of running the government.” Abaribe, who also spoke on the reported N50 billion slash of the proposed 2012 budget of the National Assembly by President Jonathan, said the Senate would only take action when the budget is formally brought to them. He also said the National Assembly was still expectant of the 2012 budget being that the executive had promised to send the budget in November. He said: “I do not know when the budget is going to be presented. We were told last time that it will be sometime in November, so now that we are in November, we are looking forward to getting the budget from the executive.” Abaribe who also spoke on the probe of the alleged shady deals in the sale of government properties by the Bureau of Public Enterprise, BPE, said the report would soon be made public. He reacted to claims that the probe has been swept under the carpet upon findings that prominent Nigerians were found culpable in the privatization exercise, saying the committee will soon submit its findings to the Senate. His words, “I think that in a very short while the report will be out. I promise you that the report will not be buried. No report that will come out of the Senate will be buried, it will be brought out and it will be open to the public because we want to ensure that we have good governance in Nigeria and the only way you can do that is to be sure that whatever you find out, ensure it is not buried.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/11/2012-budget-senate-insists-on-pay-cut-for-jonathan-others/ |

Nigerian-American novelist Nnedi Okorafor has beaten a host of big names to win the World Fantasy award for her novel set in a post-apocalyptic Saharan Africa. Who Fears Death is the story of Onyesonwu – her name means "who fears death" in Igbo – a woman with great magical powers who was conceived when her mother was raped during a battle. It beat South African novelist Lauren Beukes's Arthur C Clarke award-winning Zoo City, acclaimed Canadian author Guy Gavriel Kay's Under Heaven and many-time British Fantasy award winner Graham Joyce's new novel The Silent Land to win the best novel award, judged by five authors and editors from the science fiction and fantasy genre. Okorafor, born in the US to two Igbo parents, said it was "good to see a black writer win the prize in a genre dominated by whites", as well as to see a woman triumph in the male-dominated fantasy milieu. "What makes it even sweeter is this novel is very much about women, particularly African women," she said. Pointing to her fellow contenders for this year's best novel prize, NK Jemisin and Karen Lord, she said there were "a lot of dark faces on [the shortlist] this year. And the continent of Africa definitely made its presence known within the novels of several authors on the finalist list, too. There is a Nigerian proverb that goes, 'When the music changes so does the dance.' I think over the last several years the music within the genre has been changing and it's about to get really really interesting." A professor of creative writing at Chicago State University as well as an author of young adult novels, Okorafor said she was "utterly shocked … then warm and fuzzy with joy" to win the prize, joining former World Fantasy award best novel winners including Susanna Clarke, Haruki Murakami and Ursula K Le Guin. "Of all the novels I've written, I put the most of myself into Who Fears Death and it took the most from me," she said. "It took me several years to write. It began with the death of my father. I started writing it because I loved him and he died. Writing out my pain was the only way I could cope with it." The first scene of the novel is taken from a moment at her own father's wake, when she found herself alone with his body. Days later, she read an article in the Washington Post, "We Want to Make a Light Baby", about "horrific" practices in Sudan. "That news story rocked my world. It also showed me why my character was so feared/hated and angry - she was a product of the exact same practice discussed in the article- 'weaponised rape'," said Okorafor. "From there, my fierce and powerful character named Onyesonwu took control of the story. Where she went, I followed." Although Who Fears Death is a dark book, Okorafor says, readers are responding to its story. "Who Fears Death is a heck of a story. There is great love, there is lust, there is gorgeous and harsh reality, there are politics strongly connected to our world, there is deep Nigerian magic, there are African dragons and masquerades, and there is a great adventure with an ending that will kick you in the gut. Yes, Who Fears Death does go dark. Very dark. It had to. I don't believe in sugar-coating or censoring a story that must be told. But within that darkness, there is always light. Always. There is always hope." The World Fantasy awards ceremony in San Diego also saw Elizabeth Hand win the best novella prize for The Maiden Flight of McCauley's Bellerophon and Joyce Carol Oates take the best short story award for Fossil-Figures. http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/nov/01/world-fantasy-award-nnedi-okorafor?fb=optOut |

Fifa has cleared two former England youth internationals Shola Ameobi and Victor Moses to play for Nigeria. Nigeria Football Association (NFF) applied for a switch to make them eligible for their country of birth. "Fifa has finally cleared Foluwashola Ameobi and Victor Moses to play for Nigeria at international level," NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire said. "Fifa declared that both players have been cleared based on the entire documentation remitted by the NFF." SHOLA AMEOBI FACTFILE Name: Shola Ameobi Date of birth: 12 Oct 1981 Place of birth: Zaria, Nigeria Position: Striker Nationality: Nigeria/England Previous clubs: Stoke City (on loan) Current club: Newcastle, apps 242, goals 49 National team: Nigeria, apps 0, goals 0 The two players are likely to be considered for next month's friendlies against Botswana and Zambia. Under Fifa rules, players who have represented one country at junior level can play for another at senior level if they meet the qualifying stipulations. Ameobi, 30, who has played for England Under-21s, has not featured for the Three Lions which made him eligible for the nationality switch. The Newcastle striker was born in Zaria, northern Nigeria, before moving to England with his parents at the age of five. He was first called-up by the national team 10 years ago - a call he turned down but recently agreed to play for the Super Eagles. Ameobi was in line for his Nigeria debut in January in the friendly against Guatemala but could not play because his switch had not been approved. Moses, who plays for Premier League side Wigan, was born in Kaduna. VICTOR MOSES FACTFILE Name: Victor Moses Date of birth: 12 December 1990 Place of birth: Kaduna, Nigeria Position: Winger/Striker Nationality: Nigeria/England Previous clubs: Crystal Palace Current club: Wigan, apps 45, goals 2 National team: Nigeria, apps 0, goals 0 The 20-year-old has lived in England since the age of 11, and has been capped by his adopted country at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels. As Moses has dual nationality and has not played for England's senior side, he is eligible for Nigeria. The player was picked for March's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia, but stayed away because Fifa was considering his nationality switch application. Fifa recently removed the age limit for players who want to switch national allegiance. Previously players who had represented one country at youth level had to make the choice to change by the age of 21. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15524642.stm |
