It is understood that Ferdinand was minded on Monday night to take the incident further, but wanted to sleep on it ahead of talks with Warnock on Tuesday lunchtime at QPR’s Harlington training base. QPR have made it clear that they will back Ferdinand if he does complain to the Football Association, while Chelsea remain firmly behind Terry in his denial of using racist language. Last night Terry said: "I'll do whatever it takes to clear my name. I don't have anything to hide. I'm not taking that level of abuse. "Anton and I spoke for 10 minutes in the dressing room after the game and there is no issue between us. It's finished." Metropolitan Police said last night they had received an e-mailed complaint from a member of the public, which will be looked at by Hammersmith and Fulham Police. Ferdinand, who is the brother of England vice-captain Rio, spoke with officials at QPR yesterday about the incident and will be accompanied by an adviser at today’s meeting with Warnock. PFA representative Bobby Barnes spoke yesterday to QPR players close to the incident. PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor might be called to intervene. Terry seemed to be shouting at Ferdinand, with footage of the incident published on the internet, followed by a flurry of comment on Twitter. It appeared that Terry mouthed the words ‘you ----- black ----’. Terry quickly became aware of the internet footage and, at about 9.45pm on Sunday night, issued a statement in which he categorically denied using racist language. He said that he thought Ferdinand had accused him of making a racist slur and “responded aggressively, saying that I never used that term”. Chelsea sources suggest that he only used the offending words as part of a longer sentence denying that he had made a racist comment. Terry’s agent did not respond yesterday to a request for clarification of the specific words that the England captain believed he used as well as the context of the sentence. The FA also refused to comment on the incident, but could still launch an investigation even if Ferdinand decides not to make a formal complaint. Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is ready to outbid Chelsea for Seyi Ojo – the 14-year-old recently linked with a £2million move to the Blues. Midfielder Ojo, who is playing well above his age-group level for MK Dons and England, has been tipped to sign for Chelsea. However, Liverpool are desperate to nab him as part of a push to recruit the best domestic talent around, and they are further down the line with negotiations than their rivals, according to top sources. Liverpool will offer more money up front than Chelsea have done and hope they can convince the player he has a better chance of progress with them. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Transfer-gossip-Liverpool-join-Chelsea-in-race-for-Seyi-Ojo-2m-rated-MK-Dons-starlet-article819842.html |
Ameobi a loss to Newcastle - Pardew Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed striker Shola Ameobi will be out for four to six weeks with a hamstring strain. Ameobi, 30, was a second-half substitute in Saturday's 1-0 home win against Wigan Athletic, and has made seven appearances this season. "He felt something after about three minutes of coming on, but still played on," Pardew told BBC Look North. "He'll be a loss to us and I think our fans will see that now." The former England Under-21 international has been used as a substitute in three of his six Premier League appearances so far, as five-goal Demba Ba and Leon Best have been paired in the last five games. SHOLA AMEOBI Continue reading the main story Joined Newcastle aged 13 as a schoolboy and made his debut against Chelsea in September 2000 Scored his first Newcastle goal against Coventry in January 2001 Has scored six derby goals against rivals Sunderland, including a brace in last season's 5-1 win at St James' Park However the Nigeria-born forward proved his value earlier this month with his only goal of the campaign, firing the equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at St James' Park to maintain the club's unbeaten start. Since joining the club's academy as a 13-year-old, Ameobi has gone on to make 310 appearances in all competitions, scoring 71 goals. He will now miss matches including the Magpies' Carling Cup fourth round tie against Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15430130.stm |
Nigeria Part With Eucharia, Akide Keen On Taking Over! By Oluwashina Okeleji BBC Sport, Lagos https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/56253000/jpg/_56253574_uche.jpg The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that the contract of Super Falcons coach Eucharia Uche will not be renewed. The former international leaves the post after their failure to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. "Her contract is over and there is no extension, which is self-explanatory," said NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire. Another former international Mercy Akide says she is interested in taking over the Super Falcons. Despite leading the Falcons to their sixth African title last year, Uche's side failed to qualify for two major competitions. Continue reading the main story Her contract is over and there is no extension, which is self-explanatory Ademola Olajire NFF spokesman The Falcons' failure to qualify for the 2011 All Africa Games and the 2012 Olympics in London seems to have forced the decision. "We're very grateful to Eucharia Uche for the highly valuable contribution she made to the team," Olajire said. "From all of us here, we wish her [Uche]every success in the future." The NFF also denied speculation in the local media that Uche had no contract, confirming it was a mutual decision to part company. Ademola Olajire said: "She has had a great results with the Super Falcons and has achieved many things for which we are very grateful. "However we feel a new approach is required for the female side. There is no point reacting to speculation." Meanwhile, former African Women's Player of the Year Mercy Akide is keen on taking over after the recent setbacks for the team. The America-based former striker says she is keen on working with her former international team-mate Florence Omagbemi to improve the fortunes of the team. "I am looking forward to working to with Florence, our former captain, to improve the Super Falcons," Akide told BBC Sport. "We are really really looking forward to it because we want Nigerian football to grow. "We live abroad now and this is what we are doing for a living and helping football here grow why can't we go back home and help our own team grow?" Under Uche the Super Falcons won their record sixth African in November 2010. But she failed to qualify the team for the 2011 All Africa Games in Mozambique - the first time the Super Falcons have failed to qualify for any continental championship. AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has hailed Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo after making his first Champions League start for the Italian side. Taiwo joined the Serie A club at the start of the season but has struggled to command a first team place. He played his first official game against Cesena in a league clash last month. His second official appearance came during Wednesday's 2-0 over Bate Borisov in a UEFA Champions League. Taiwo, whose rocketing left-foot shot resembles that of former Brazil international Roberto Carlos, added a new dimension to Milan in Wednesday's game. There was a sense of anticipation every time the ex-Marseille player joined the attack and he uncorked one pile-driver in the first half, a 30-metre volley which flew narrowly wide. AC Milan coach Allegri is delighted that the Nigerian impressed when he was given the chance in the Champions League. "It was good to give Taiwo a chance to show what a good player he is. He's getting a lot better in training," said coach Allegri. Taye said he found the Champions League, where he has plenty of previous experience, a relief after Serie A. "I'm getting more and more faith in my abilities in training and during the games and I think you can see that when I play," he said. "The league is very difficult. I've been watching lots of DVD's to learn what I can. In the Champions League the play is different. "I know it a bit better than I know Serie A because I have some experience in playing there." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15387480.stm |
