PoliticsWhy I Returned To Labour Party – Mimiko by reportminds(op): 10:29am On Jun 15, 2018
Former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has explained why he returned to the Labour Party (LP).

He had on Wednesday, written to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, informing them of his resignation from the party.

In his declaration on Thursday at the Civic Centre in Ondo, Mr Mimiko, said he left the PDP out of the conviction to join forces with a political ideology relevant to the need of the present day Nigeria.

According to him, all other parties, including his former party, the PDP, run on ideologies that would not serve the purpose of transforming the country.

He said returning to the LP was borne out of “the need to catalyse a greater focus on the ideological content of the Nigerian political firmament.”

“LP, and its few ideological soul mates among the legion of parties in the country today, provide the requisite platform for this type of deep ideological introspection,” he said.

“Without doubt, this social democratic mantra, which LP and its soul mates represent, remains the best possible outlet for leading Nigeria into a new era of progressive governance.

“We have also come with the conviction, consequent upon several years of practical involvement in the nation’s political process, that the need for ideologically focused political engagement is now more pressing than ever before.

“Virtually all the existing political parties in Nigeria today belong to the right of the centre, ensconced as it were in a neo-liberal mental construct, the name or mantra they choose to enrobe themselves in, notwithstanding.

“This is evident not in terms of the pretentious claims they make to ideological purity, but in the way and manner they have used power; including the extent to which they have mainstreamed the interest and welfare of the weak and poor in our society.

“This ideological fluidity, within which the nation’s extant democracy has evolved since 1999, deserves now to be fully interrogated, with a view to engendering a transition to a more ideologically defined system of engagement.

“This will at once allow for a nuanced examination of the context and content of governance, provide the Nigerian people with real alternatives, and help the electorate in making informed decisions as to which individual or platform to invest
with power; and how to hold such to account at all times.”

“We would begin to sharpen the ideological divide in Nigerian politics, with a view to mainstreaming the welfare and interest of the mass of our people,” Mr Mimiko added.

In his address, a factional National Chairman of the party, Abdukadir Abdusalam, said he was delighted to welcome back Mr Mimiko and his followers to the party as the nation approached the coming general elections.

“I feel highly delighted to preside over the return to Labour Party of His Excellency Dr Olusegun Mimiko, the immediate past Governor of Ondo State and all his followers,” he said.

“His people oriented programmes in health, education, housing, rural development, urban renewal, youth and women empowerment attest to the value inherent in his return to the party.

“In him, we have an example of what power could be used to achieve on the side of the people.

“Therefore our hope and confidence is rekindled by his return to the party today to be part of the renaissance of the party and Nigeria.

“Today is indeed not a day for long speeches. We are here to welcome Dr. Mimiko to our party. By his history and achievements, he qualified pre-eminently to be a member of our great party.

“The Labour Party is elated that that a social democrat like Dr. Mimiko, who through his sterling performances as governor mainstreamed pro-people and pro-poor people policies, programmes and projects, is returning to add value to the party. I assure you of our support and commitment at all times,” he added.

According to online sources, the charge relates to a flag inside Groupama Stadium that appeared to be styled like a Nazi war ensign.

As punishment, Atletico must close a section of the Wanda Metropolitano that includes at least 3,000 seats for their next home game in UEFA competition.

CelebritiesI Regret Fighting My Former Record Label - Vector by reportminds(op): 2:12pm On Jun 10, 2018
Rapper Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, popularly known as Vector, has said the death of his father last year changed many things about him.

Recall that in 2014, the rapper had a feud with his former record company, YSG Entertainment, which ended in court. For a year, he was not able to do music.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Vector admitted that he mismanaged information during his feud with the record company and he paid for it. He said, “To be honest with you, the only reason I was taken to court was because I was popular or becoming popular. I must have mismanaged information on my part as well. I hate the fact that it slowed down my music and I lost money too. But I have learnt to try to be more patient and understanding with people. You cannot fight with people forever regardless of what could have happened. I have reached out to my former label and we have spoken.”

Speaking on his regrets, he said, “Everything happens for a reason and I am grateful for my present position. Everyone regrets things; I regret things too but I just don’t dwell on them for too long. I will be stupid to tell you that I didn’t regret something that escalated to the extent that I could not make music for a year or so. Of course, I had regrets but I never let it drag me down. I took all the money I had and invested it in a studio.”

CelebritiesI Tried Using Sandpaper To Get Rid Of My Tribal Marks –afeez Owo by reportminds(op): 8:07am On Jun 09, 2018
One noticeable feature of popular Nollywood actor, Afeez Abiodun popularly known as Afeez Owo are the tribal marks on his face. While some might argue that he would have been more handsome without them, the actor begs to differ as he said that he had to face reality and accept what his parents created on his face.

He opened up that initially as a young boy, he disliked the marks and went to the extent of using sandpaper to get rid of them all to no avail simply because he was always taunted by bus conductors.
Owo added that he would never allow anyone inflict such scars on the face of his children.

“I am very comfortable with my tribal marks now and if anything ever wipes them off my face, I would feel bare or naked and my fans would not recognise me. While I was growing up in Surulere, there were a lot of times I was teased by people because of my tribal marks. They abused me so much but I did not care; today my tribal mark is my trademark. There was a time people teased me so much that I attempted to use sandpaper to wipe them off especially when bus conductors insulted me about it. They always picked on me and called me various names but I thank God for who I am today. I am also glad I did not get rid of the tribal marks. There is no insult anyone can dish out to me over my tribal marks that would hurt my feelings. Although I like my tribal marks, I can never allow anyone to give my children tribal marks,” he said.

The thespian went down memory lane with Saturday Beats as he spoke about how his parents did not support his career and he had to sponsor his education when he was in primary school.

“When I started my acting career, it was rough and tough. The first challenge I faced was from my parents who felt I did not know what I was doing with my life. I lived with them in Oyo State and they felt that I ought to go to school to study. They weren’t pleased with me, so they backed off and I had to finance my education from Primary 5 till I got to Form 5. When I got to Lagos, I had to fend for myself as well. I got a little place on Randle Avenue, Surulere and whenever I was going for rehearsals, I trekked from my house in Surulere to Saka Tinubu, Victoria Island. I never knew that I would become someone in life. I just went with hope and I had it in mind that if I passed out while trekking either to the venue or back home, then so be it. I got a breakthrough in 1998 and two years later, I produced my first movie,” Afeez Owo said

In the following month, Sampson was sacked for "inappropriate and unacceptable" behaviour with female players in a previous role, with former Manchester United and
Everton defender Phil Neville taking over in January

SportsLate Keshi And Yekini, Okocha, Rufai Makes Amokachi Super Eagles XI by reportminds(op): 8:32pm On Jun 04, 2018
The former Super Eagles great opts for a 4-3-3 with legends such as Rufai, Keshi, Okocha and Yekini all in the team.

Daniel Amokachi said Below:

Given Nigeria’s rich history and record at international level, there are many players to choose from but I have gone with a lot of those I played with because I truly believe it represented a unique period in Nigeria’s history with the Nations Cup triumph in 1994 and our qualification for the World Cup that same year when we proved we can compete with the very best.

Peter Rufai is the undisputed choice for me as goalkeeper because he was huge for us in both the Nations Cup win and the World Cup performance in 1994, acting not just as a superb final line of defence but also as a leader from the back.

Augustine Eguavoen is my pick for the right-back slot but the left-back position is slightly more difficult. Celestine Babayaro was brilliant for both Nigeria and at club level, especially for Chelsea, but I will go for Ben Iroha because I think he provided an extra spark to the Nigeria team in attack.

Stephen Keshi’s place in Nigeria’s history is undisputed so his position in this team is not up for discussion but Nigeria has had some superb centre-backs and natural leaders, including Christian Chukwu, who captained the Super Eagles to a first Nations Cup title in 1980. My choice as partner for Keshi, however, is Uche Okechukwu who was rock solid for Nigeria in two Nations Cup finals – 1990 and 1994 – as well as playing central roles in two round of 16 finishes at the World Cup for Nigeria.

Daniel Amokachi’s all-time Nigeria XI
I want my Nigeria team to line up in a 4-3-3 formation so we can accommodate the many attacking talents to have pulled on the national jersey. The anchorman in midfield is a simple decision: Sunday Oliseh. He could shield the defence, he was a good tackler, he had a great pass and he scored when you needed him to..

To compliment Oliseh’s steel in that midfield will be the flair of Jay Jay Okocha, who could do practically anything he wanted with that ball to set up Nigeria’s attack.

Then I will stick myself in that three as a sort of support striker, playing behind the main striker. I always thrived for Nigeria in that position because it allowed me to see the game better, to roam about in front a bit, pick up loose balls and feed the main man up front.

And there is only one choice for the main striker. For me it has to be Rashidi Yekini, the record goalscorer for Nigeria, with 38 goals in 57 games. His record for Nigeria was excellent. He was also top scorer and player of the tournament for Nigeria at the 1994 Nations Cup in addition to scoring the country’s first ever World Cup goal. There are so many players who could play alongside Yekini in a front three.

Tijani Babangida was brilliant and Segun Odegbami roamed the flanks with elegance in his days but I am going to choose Finidi George, formerly of Ajax, and the ex-Barcelona winger Emmanuel Amunike to provide good balance on the rightnd left wings.

CelebritiesI Was In Labour Room, Recorded My Baby’s Birth - Yemi Solade by reportminds(op): 8:08am On Jun 03, 2018
Read the excerpt below

What does fatherhood mean to you?

Fatherhood is bringing forth a child, nursing and nurturing that child. It also means doing all you have to do to place the child on a proper footing in life and that starts from when the child comes into the world till the child is of age.

How did you meet your wife?

I met my wife in the course of work. I met her on location when I was working. We started off as friends and I saw that we were interested in each other. Then, I told her that I would want to marry her and that was what we did.

The Solades
How many children do you have?

We have two children; a male and a female.

When did you first become a father?

It was about 13 years ago.

Were you in the labour room with your wife?

I was there. I witnessed the arrival of my child and I even had it recorded.

How did you feel to see your wife give birth?

It was a mixed feeling. I felt like she went through a lot bringing the baby forth. I saw all the pain she had to go through and even when the doctor asked me to step out, I insisted on staying there. I even burst into tears eventually because the experience was heavy. Afterwards, it was all joy when the baby arrived.

Did you wish for a particular gender before any of your children was born?

No. I am not a gender person. I am concerned about having healthy children.

How have you been able to manage your career as well as fatherhood?

There must be a balance in anything anybody does in life. I knew one day I must be a father and live as a family man. I am an actor and most times, my job takes me out of the home but that is what the work dictates. When I am not around, I connect with my family by speaking with them. We miss each other when we are not around ourselves physically but they understand that I am working. My work is not a 9-5 (9am to 5pm) job. I am into movie-making and that involves being out of the house for weeks and sometimes months, but it is what I have to do. I play my role to the best of my ability.

Can you tell us about your father and how he raised you?

Interestingly, I was not raised by my father like that. I was one child that the entire family loved; so, I actually moved round my father’s siblings. It was a love that the entire family shared. Most of the children moved around every member of the family.

I was not with my father all through. He played his own role too. I was very happy growing up and after university and professional training, I began to work on my own.

Did you face any difficulty when you were growing up?

I grew up in Surulere, Lagos. The style of living there was very communal. Any parent could scold any child and of course, mobiles were not in vogue at the time. We shared bicycles, played on the trees, flew kites and played football. It was a huge fun.

Would you say that you were born with a silver spoon?

I don’t understand this ‘silver spoon’ thing. I was born normally and I grew up normally. I was born in an environment that was very conducive and I had the best of growing up. I went to good schools. I did everything that a child should do and I played with my friends.

What values did you imbibe from your father and other father figures around you that now guide you as a father?

It is to be a man of one’s own and to always stay positive. It is important to carry the family name well which I believe I do. I believe that I have carried the name well and respectfully. It shows that I have been able to be a good ambassador of the name and my family. I grew up with the notion that I should be a good person and to do nothing that will rub mud on the name of the family. My family is very proud of me. In moving around family members, I learnt a lot of things and those are the things that have moulded me into being the man that I am today.

What has been the major challenge for you as a father?

A major challenge will always be finance. Finance is needed to run the home and the present-day Nigeria is not easy. A lot of families are in disarray owing to the economy in the country. A lot of people do not live together because of survival and it is sad. I work hard to provide for them and due to the nature of my job, I have to be out of the home for long periods of time. However, thankfully my wife, despite having her own business, always ensures that she is at close radius of the children and it is helpful.

What has been the happiest moment for you as a father?

The fact that I look at my children growing before me always makes me happy. I am always happy when I see my offspring.

Are any of your children interested in following in your footsteps?

My children are art-inclined. They appreciate what I do but they are fashioning out their own thing. They love entertainment as well and if they decide to continue in it when they are older, then that is fine by me. I can’t compel them to do what I do. If they want to do it, the only thing is to guide them and to make sure that they do better than me.

How do you discipline them when they act up?

I talk to them most times. I am not in the habit of beating children. I scold them but once in a while, I spank them. I don’t like doing it because I am emotionally attached to them but if the offence is intense, that I have to spank them to correct them, I do so. However, most times, I do not even wait for them to come back and apologise after I spank them, I quickly warm up to them and tell them why I had to hit them and then they apologise and we are back to normal. With children, they let go easily. They never brood but as they grow, it is less spanking and more talking.

How do you reward them when they do good?

Reward is like bribery in the family unit. I don’t often bribe my children. Due to the fact that they are still young, it is their right to get whatever they ask from me that I can provide. If I can’t provide it, I explain why I can’t provide it because they are still dependent. It does not matter whether they make me happy or not. Once, I know I have the means to do whatever it is I have to do for them, I do it. There is no regulation to that. I get them things based on my means and if I know that they would like it.

How did you prepare for fatherhood?

There was not really any preparation. I watched my wife go through pregnancy and the most important thing was to make sure that my wife was well taken care of because she was the one who was really dealing with the baby as she was the one connecting with the baby at such an early age. In attending to one’s wife, one is attending to the child as well.

How do you relax with your family when you are home?

My family loves music and we play a lot of music. We dance together sometimes. Music is always playing in my household and that is why my children love it too. My son plays the saxophone and my daughter plays the clarinet. We just have fun generally. We go out sometimes and we are a happy family.

What has been your favourite movie that you featured in?

I’m not sure I have a favourite movie. I am as good as my last job. I love every movie I feature in. I am not sure that I have done the one that I love the most. I am still working and I am still evolving. I enjoy my job. I love acting, it’s my second nature and maybe a producer will come one day and bring the job that will be as challenging as I imagine that I will probably fall in love with.

What advice will you give to children that have no fathers?

The advice I would give them is to just be realistic and face the world squarely and realise that this world is only for a while. In any field, they find themselves, they should do their best to impact the world positively. They should keep living and do positive things.

What advice would you give to men that are about to become fathers?

They should support the woman because the woman is the one that is going to be physically and emotionally attached to the child for the first 18 months. The men should take care of the women and also do their best to provide for the child when the child arrives.

How do you manage scandals?

I just let it go and it fizzles out. This is Nigeria where even the president of the country is being rubbished. So, who am I? I don’t think there is anything written about me that says that I have been to jail or I have been arrested. Anything that is written about me, I just consider it a part of show business. I don’t do anything illegal, I am just an actor. I have a right to express myself and associate with people. I am into show business and I have seen things written about me involving some women that I don’t even know. I don’t even have time for that.

How do you appreciate your wife?

If I don’t appreciate my wife, who will? I appreciate my wife because she is a wonderful person and I am not just saying that because she is my wife but she is one of the best human beings I have ever met. She is a thousand times better than me. She is super human. She is stronger than me. She came to make my life complete. There is nothing I cannot do to appreciate her. I appreciate her as much as I can and it is still ongoing. She is beautiful inside and outside. She was sent by God to stabilise my life and make me who I am today.

CelebritiesI Would Never Reveal My Age –jigan, Sho Mo Age Mi Originator by reportminds(op): 11:48am On Jun 02, 2018
From www.reportminds.com

Kazeem Abimbola, popularly called Jigan Babaoja, is a talented actor, musician and a comedian. The originator of sho mo age mi, that has gone viral, tells Ademola Olonilua how he came about the slang

How did you come up with the phase, Sho mo age mi?

I have actually done several skits but it’s just that God had mandated that I would become popular with this ‘Sho mo age mi’ slang. I was on a movie location with some of my friends when we started talking about our actresses that were celebrating their 40th birthday; we said that some of them were either not up to 40 years or they were above the age. That was how we started arguing and I cited myself as an example, asking them if they knew if I was up to 40 years old. That’s how I started asking them if they knew my age in Yoruba. From there, something urged me to do a skit about it and that’s how it went viral.

Did you ever believe it would become this much of an internet sensation?

I did not know it would garner such attention online. It never occurred to me. Of all my skits, it had the highest amount of views and that was when I knew that it was going to be a viral video. I also have to thank Tunde Ednut because each time I make a skit, he always reposts it and that gives it more mileage online.

Don’t you feel bad that since you have been singing and acting, fame came accidentally through social media?

This is a dream come true for me; it does not matter how I attained fame either it is through my music, films or comedy, I am just happy that one of my initiatives has made me a brand. This is something I have been dreaming of all my life because I started my career as a musician. I have been doing music since 2001. I released some songs and visuals for them but I noticed that I was just spending money and I was not getting anything in return. So, I decided to put music on hold and joined the movie industry. I felt that if I had a big breakthrough in acting, I would return to music. I never knew it was going to happen like this; through a one-minute skit.

You have already done a song for the viral trend, what are some of the feedback you have been receiving from fans?

The comments are very interesting and it is motivating me to do more.

How did you meet Davido?

I was wowed when it happened. I was home one day posting some of my skits on the same trending topic when I received a direct message from him. I was so happy and while I was still basking in the euphoria, I received a call from my manager, Danku, who told me to hold on for Davido. In his distinct voice, I heard him say, “Hello, Sho mo age mi, sho mo age mi ni,” then he laughed and invited me to meet him at Lekki. I went to meet him at Lekki and he told me he appreciated my work. He was travelling to America on that day but he still made out time to receive me.

People are actually interested in knowing your age. How old are you?

The whole idea behind the skit is the suspense I have built around my age and I have decided that I am never going to tell anybody my age. I am going to keep it to myself forever.

When it comes to the internet trends are quick to come and go; how do you plan on sustaining the momentum in order to remain relevant?

I am working on something new. I am coming out with new music and I also plan on doing a film about ‘Sho mo age mi’. I have more than a hundred contents on the ground, so I know I would remain relevant.

We see you limping in your skits, is it part of the act?

It is not part of the act; I actually have some problems with my leg. When I was a young boy of about six years old, I fell ill and I was taken to the hospital. I was given an injection at the wrong place. That was what happened. I was not born this way.

How do you feel about the development?

It is by the grace of God and I feel very overwhelmed by the love and support I have received so far. Before, I had 42,000 followers on Instagram but when I became an internet sensation and as I speak with you, I have over 100,000 followers and the number keeps increasing. As I speak with you, I have seen so many souvenirs about the trend ranging from clothes, fez caps; some people are doing different skits about it while others have done different songs just because of the trend. My face is on so many tee-shirts just because of the phrase ‘Sho mo age mi’. The feedback has been so touching but all I need from them is to come and partner with the brand.

How do you feel about the fact that some of them did not seek your permission before printing these shirts and fez caps?

I am actually working on trade marking the phrase; once that is done, anybody that does that without my consent would face the law.

Why did you open an Instagram account?

As an actor, you need an Instagram account to connect with your fans.

But did you ever believe that through Instagram, you would attain fame?

I still cannot believe what is happening to me now. It all seems surreal; it is something like a dream. I do not think it has ever happened in the history of Nigerian entertainment industry. My slang is not just viral in Nigeria but it is global, I have seen the Chinese version and several other languages. It got to a stage that I started crying; I have really cried about this a lot and I am still in shock.

Now that you are popular, how have you been coping with messages from fans especially women?

I now get so many messages from fans especially women that I cannot reply them in six months.

What kind of messages do you get from women?

They send me normal messages that they appreciate my work and that I should keep on the good job. I am married, so I cannot entertain any naughty message from women.

Have you started making money from the trend?

Not yet and that is why I am calling on people to partner with me and support the brand.

Since you started this trend, have you received negative comments from people?

I feel that anything that goes viral, there would be positive and negative comments; it is left to the originator of the trend to be motivated by the negative comments and put in more effort in his craft. The few negative comments I have got are from people who do not understand the language and some that do believe that I am not funny. However, as it is now, I feel everybody has accepted the trend and they are enjoying it.

Do you block people that send you hate messages?

No, I don’t. I talk to everybody based on the message they send to me. I spread love when people show disdain towards me.

Although you engage your fans on social media, do you think you can maintain that trend especially when you become bigger?

I appreciate my fans a lot and I would talk to them at any little opportunity I get. I would be very happy if I could attend to all my fans across the world.

Have people accosted you on the road simply because of this slang?

I almost got injured at a mall. There was a man who was driving by and immediately he spotted me, he parked his car, ran towards me and started shouting, ‘sho mo age mi’. While he was yelling, he carried me all of a sudden and I almost fell down; he insisted that I must tell him my age.

Before you became an internet sensation, were you ever frustrated to the point that you wanted to quit entertainment?

When you keep doing a certain thing and it is not progressing, there is no way you would not have second thoughts about the venture. Sincerely, I have always been dedicated to my craft because I knew that one day, something good would come out of it.

Some people feel that one of the funniest Sho mo age mi skits is the one Oga Bello and his son, Femi, did. How did you feel when you saw their skit?

I cried the day I saw the skit because I could feel the love they have for me. Immediately I called Oga Bello to thank him. I also asked him to pray for me because he had done something good in my life by endorsing the trend. Even though he was fasting, he took out time to make a skit with his son just to support me. I just had to call him. A lot of celebrities have called me to celebrate me and Saheed Osupa is one of them. He has also done a skit about the trend. I appreciate everyone that has done a skit about the trend.

How is your wife coping with your new found fame on the internet?

She cannot believe it as well and she has received thousands of calls from friends and family members that her husband is everywhere. She is proud of me. I also had a talk with my wife that we are now on another level, so she has to change the way she ‘packages’ herself. I also advised her to try and keep away from the limelight because I would want my private life to remain private. I would not want my family in the full glare of the public.
