All i am saying is 50 years is more than enough to bounce back after a war. please, i am not here to argue resource control or fallow lying resources with you(as if other regions dont have same issues) one minute, one of your own is saying:"despite the war, see how we have bounced back", i take him up on that, and you are telling me; resource control. you know what, maybe we should just let this matter rest. cheers the Igbo individual is successful the region is still struggling against fg retrogression . can't u get it. In less than 10 years after the war igbo s had overcome 20 pounds policy, but the region needs it's autonomy . |

Which is which and what do you want us to really believe? OK u misunderstood me. Were not in control of anything , were just looking for opportunities and not regulations to control sectors by fg. Ofcos were def not scared of competing |

Ibo people have occupied all the leadership offices in Nigeria from president to head of state, governors all the way down.

Kaysalas: Sorry, didn't intentionally evade your point, lumped up my response in my reply to blue20.
I do not understand your raw material / electrical port analogy, pls try to be clearer in subsequent posts. Now in response to your points, you seem NOT to understand the issue on ground here, lemme go over it... 50 years is more than enough for Any region/ country to recover after a war, but you give me 'reasons' why you lots think the recovery of the ibos is the 8th wonder of the world. Yes, i agree with you that EASTERN NIGERIA has been denied of a seaport and other infrastructures BUT IGBOS were not denied the right to use all of these infrastructures WHERE THEY ARE SITUATED. again, this goes to show that there is nothing special/ extra ordinary in your supposed RECOVERY. I hope you sincerely do see my point You made reference to Germany, not being meted the same treatment as the Igbo, but I am sure you remember the conditions imposed on Germany after WWI and about 30 years later, this same Germany singlehandedly dragged the world into another war.My point again; 50 yrs is more than enough to recover from d disaster of war. Thank God you are a student of history, pls read up more on the punishment Germany got after WWI to better understand.
You also talked about being COMPELLED to transfer all generated electricity to the central , please, this applies to every region, how then does this validate your false claim that the Igbo recovery after the war is unprecedented? Think logically... Now, I must commend you on the manner you tackled the Catalonia example, you are one of the very few intelligent ibos on nairaland, others almost always tend to insults and diversionary tactics while responding to facts staring them in the face, that is why I would rather go with the maxim; SILENCE IS......(I leave you to fill in the blank with either 'GOLDEN' or 'THE BEST ANSWER FOR A F**L') But back to the point raised and your splendid response about Catalonia, can you say the same about the hutus and the tutsis in rwanda ? How about other countries that had also had their share of civil war all across Africa? They all have moved on bro, and when you get to most of those countries now, the gap between the victor and the defeated in the war is almost always NON-EXISTENT. My point again, 50 years is more than enough for a war ravaged people to bounce back, your Igbo brothers need to stop making it look like 'landing a man on the moon" hope you get my drift? Now clearly you dont understand the core igbo agitation. Igbos have fully moved on as a people and are very successful and have even surpassed their peers that were given a headstart. The problem like you stated is THE REGION ie the lands and its resources are lying fallow and mismanaged by the fg. The land use act has denied us the ability to harnessing whatever resources we could put into use for the good of the region. Why are there regulations for what gets into ph port, considering the fact there's a need to decongest apapa. That way we wouldn't need to emigrate to other places. I wonder why this is so difficult for you guys to understand. If the fg gives us resource control i personally will remain in that region. Germany under the treaty of versailles degenerated so badly that there had to be a rethink in the Lausanne Conference of 1932. If the treasty of versailles wasnt renegotiated, the germany you know today would have been a third world country. The east isnt particular about secession perse....... all the region requires is autonomy. I wonder why folks in the west and north so much dread this autonomy. For the umpteenth time the igbo man has moved on and even surpassed a lot of ppl that benefited from the indigenisation policy, We're not asking for reparations, all we need is autonomy so we can handle our biz. 50 years is enough IF we had control of our resources. im sure the region would have surpassed its peers drastically. |

Kaysalas: Why do u love to change topic at random? I am talking about Germany being destroyed after the war and you are telling me about east Germany. Don't you know that 'east Germany' is a post WWII creation? And what exactly do you mean by 'wasn't independent, same people on same soil?" Did east Germans loose their German origin? Please, let us learn to make healthy comparison that tally with the issue being discussed.
You also talked about Germany being an independent nation, therefore shouldn't be compared to you lots, I knew you were gonna play that card, guess what I have a joker for you already. I am sure you have heard of Catalonia region in Spain. Similar to you guys, they fought and lost the Spanish civil war and AGain, they have bounced back to become one of the most prosperous regions in Spain. Go figure my friend My point again: Germany(east PLUS west) have long moved on, well past their WWII defeat, so has Catalonia and other 'regions' defeated in civil wars. 50 years is more than enough for any nation defeated in war to bounce back. interesting how you tried to evade my point . no w Catalonia was defeated and even persecuted culturally but yet if you've read history you'd realise the Spanish govt invested heavily there and even liberalised the major sectors under its supervision. There was no land use act, no exclusive list etc ie the Spanish govt didn't decide to hold down Catalonia for fear of revolting again. You guys are fund of bringing in sentiments into simple discussions. Wht you cannot take as a group you'd expect us to swallow and smile . why is llthe port at one strictly petroleum products and electrical raw materials (I stand to be corrected). I'd imagine if apapa port was blessed with same status, how you guys would scream blue murder but we are supposed to take it in good faith . as for the oil , gas, coal, and other viable mineral resources the federal government sits on them and they lie fallow. Even when we try to generate our electricity were compelled by law to send it through to the national grid, while were left with the option of darkness...plsss don't ever use Catalonia as an iplustration. As for east and west germany , after WWII you realise the west was allowed to develop indepent of the occupiers influence (US), while east Germany was suppressed and their resources controlled by their occupiers ,(USSR), even after the fall of the Berlin wall, east Germany is still battling at a slow pace . nb same ppl, culture, yet because of different occupier approaches the rwults were different.. Don't come here telling us the east which has even developed rapidly as compared with other regions that didn't experience the civil war, with little or no federal presence...........,.... Sighs.....this is a waste of time . |

DONGOYARO1: I am sort of neutral here but it seems you ibos are missing and mixing things up. The registration figure is based on regions of origin. If an ibo student from abia state who resides in abuja fills his jamb form, will he indicate abuja as his state of origin or abia? if truly that's what the statistics is about then rest my case but going by election statistics, census and other important exercises our federal govt is too lazy to compute data in such prestine manner. Theyd rather lump everything on regional basis |

Leave this your CIVIL WAR song, 50 years is MORE THAN ENOUGH for ANY NATION to bounce back. Think , my friend Germany was independent . and ermmm do u know why east Germany still remained a ghetto as compared to west Germany ? nurey: I don't know how long you have been driving the DC but doing 120km in gear 2 will probably have your rpm @ 5 which I feel is stressing the engine and gear at that settings.
Though I know a lot of stunts can be pulled with the manual gear with the right settings. yes I understand what you're saying but I noticed this particular car can do it without getting to red. I wouldn't dare try that with my 406. Its so powerful when u accelerate at that speed and change to gear three , the car actually screeches while in motion ie u know when u take your legs off the clutch while accelerating on gear one.(that trick every manual driver did as secondary school kids) now imagine that while on motion( 100kmh)... No way any automatic can pull that off. |
Car Talk › Re: How Hard Is It To Drive A Manual Car In Lagos by revolt(m): 10:36pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
nurey: your addition of neutral to the mix is quite funny, reminds me of the first day i actually played arcade game with steering wheel and manual gear. it would even be more funny watching you change gear in 1 minute
I change gear in nano seconds, so i dont know whether i even touch neutral at all, you disengage gear with clutch and switch to desired side and engage gear again i doubt if it goes through neutral (though i may be wrong).
So onto next lesson you can move a car at rest with gear 1 or 2, but the design is to move with gear 1, when you become a pro, you will ditch gear 1 especially in traffic. Gear 3, 4, 5 to infiniti will not move the car but stall the engine.
Now when upshifting you can skip gears but to be on a safer side i found that for a five speed manual, gear 4 is the most useless gear i have ever come across it serves me no important purpose so you can move your gear in this order 1 to 2 to 3 you can skip 4 and jump onto 5, i have not driven manual gear with settings more than 5, iknow benz, bmw and some high end sports car have upto 6 manual gear settings.
When you skip an important gear like jumping from 1 straight to any higher gear (3,4,5 to infiniti), you are stressing the engine as you will notice the car doesnt get upto speed as intended besides some gear to me are of importance
Gear 1= The gear of unlimate momentum Gear 2= Keeping the momentum stable Gear 3= The baba of all gear, used in showcasing the prowess of your engine if you intend to a) overtake b) bringout the power in the engine (incase you intend to street race) Gear 4= Owanbe Gear 5= To maintain the maximum engine and gear power (especially during highway driving) gear 3 is the baba of all gears in certain cars ie German, French etc I have a 406, But I acquired a Honda DC manual 4cylinder 2.4 l(ofcos u know the auto of that car runs pretty fast, imagine what I do with the manual)it can take off like a v6. Well I discovered the gear 3 is slightly weaker than usual, and the baba gear is 2, which can take me from 20km/h to 120kmh in 5.7 seconds. Wondering why my gear 2 is that powerful without labouring the engine. |

kendraloops: hello sir. your post caught my attention. I want to know if it's OK to downshift from say like gear 5 to neutral and then gear 1. does it have any negative effect on the clutch or something? summary.... must I downshift the same way I went up I. e from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1? still a learner though and I get quite confused with this aspect. thanks sir. depends on the speed. Basically gear selection is centred on reducing engine load or stress while attaining or maintaining maximum speed and thrust. For any experienced driver, its easy to determine the appropriate gear for particular sppeds but since ure a learner pls downshift systematically so u don't destroy ur clutch n gearbox. Capish |
