PoliticsRe: Senate Rejects Transfer Of Bakassi To Cameroun by Revolution: 12:18pm On Nov 25, 2007
bibiking1, it is better to ignore and disobey the ICJ than to act illegally against your nations constitution. Where there is a conflict between the ICJ and a nation's constitution, the latter takes precedence. Was it the ICJ that put Obasanjo in power? Was it the ICJ that prevented OBJ from running for third term? Never ignore the hand that feeds the mouth. ICJ only exists because it was setup by nations that where themselves established and governed by constitutions.

It is only in Africa that a President can single handedly hand over a part of their nation with consulting or getting approval from the people or the national assembly. In the developed world Obasanjo would have been tried and probably jailed for that.
PoliticsRe: Senate Rejects Transfer Of Bakassi To Cameroun by Revolution: 11:41am On Nov 25, 2007
By western standards of democracy the ownership of the land is determined by the inhabitants of the land.

Obasanjo made a massive mistake ceding Bakassi to Cameroun. if I were in his position, as soon as the International court gave the ruling I would have said something like "Nigeria is a democratic and law abiding nation, therefore everything we do much be within the laws and democratic principles of Nigeria. I was elected into office based on the laws and constitution of Nigeria and I derive my presidential powers from them, therefore the laws and constitution of Nigeria take precedence over International law. Bakassi can only be ceded by modifying the Nigeria constitution, if that is what the Indegenes want. I have therefore ordered a referendum be held in Bakassi ASAP and promise to do everything within my powers to persuade the national assembly to change the constitition, if the people of Bakassi decide to join Cameroon.

The Bakassi people would have voted 100% to stay in Nigeria and that would have given Nigeria, in the eyes of the west, the right to Bakassi. The united Kingdom today owns Northern Ireland, which used to be part of, and is still being claimed by, the Republic of Ireland, because the people of Northern Ireland prefer to be within the UK. The UK also owns the Falkland Ireland, which is thousands of miles away from the UK itself and close to Argentina, because the residents of the Falklands see themselves as British. The same applies to the rock of Gilbrataar which is closer to and claimed by Spain.
PoliticsRe: Supreme Court Reinstates Peter Obi. Andy Uba To Quit Office by Revolution: 11:15am On Jun 15, 2007
Tlops, it is too late to prevent this scenario i.e. stagerred swearing in of Governors in 2011, even if the tribunal is given a time constriaint now because a 4 years tenure that begins anytime from now will end at the earliest 15th June 2011. Also, it is unlikely all tribunals will reach judgements the same day and all affected states swear in the new governors on the same day, so it is inevitable that they will be staggered. I don't think it is a bad thing though.
PoliticsRe: Supreme Court Reinstates Peter Obi. Andy Uba To Quit Office by Revolution: 9:55am On Jun 15, 2007
This is FANTSTIC news! but there is more to come because I am sure many of the Governors sworn in on may 29th will be kicked out by the election tribunals, starting probably with Edo State. This Supreme court ruling mens all candidates who are successful at the April elections tribunal and subsequently sworn in will not leave office until 4 yours after the swearing in date. Therefore, the swearing dates in 2011 will be staggered, i.e. governors installed by the election tribunals will not leave office on May 29th and that date will loose it's significance as the official handover date.

Those facts are wrong. Tinapa cost a lot more than that, about $350m (N45bn) but that had long being the estimate. But what has this got to do with good or bad governance. Lots of projects around the world exceed their estimates because of one reason or another. Even here in the UK the Olympics for 2012 is running well over budget, The new Wembley stadium is well over budget, Abuja Stadium cost lots more than expected. It could well be the contractors fault. This is not good example of a bad thing Duke has done becaue Tinapa is a very good thing
PoliticsRe: Donald Duke Declares For Presidency November 7 At Inter. Conference Cent., Abuja by Revolution: 9:41pm On Feb 10, 2007
LePhilippe, it was these sort or allegation against Duke that made the EFCC investigate him, yes Duke was investigated, however Ribadu not only found the allegations to be false but he was so impressed by Duke's accountability and style of Governmemnt that he singled him out as an examplary Governor during his appearance before the senate.

There are so many allegations in the your initial post, however it doesn't take a genius to know that if there was an element of truth in them the EFCC would have nailed Duke by now because they are so blatant. Duke isn't stupid, even if he was to steal money, would he foolishly pay his Wife's NGO £18M though a bank account which leaves a trail of evidence. Common!

The accusation were made by:

Fredrick Osari
Executive Chairman
fredosaraqua@yahoo.com
CROSS RIVER STATE ANTI-CORRUPTION NETWORK
Suit 5, Cultural Centre Complex, Calabar Cross River State, Nigeria

Philippe, ask your relative who has lived in Calabar for 35 years to go and look for Mr Osari at Suit 5 in the Cultural Complex, and see if he that office exists. The cultural complex is government owned so it obvious he does not have an office there, so that is his first lie. What credibility does he have left if he can't even tell the truth about where he is located. I know a few people in Calabar myself and all of them say Mr Osari is a joker. You have his email address above, maybe you can contact him and investigate whether he is not the real crook in this whole affair.

By the way, what bad had Duke done? and please don't mention any of these baseless allegations. Please tell us what bad he has done that cancels out the good.

Lephilippe, do you see my point? Anybody can make up a story about anybody and put it on the internet and it will seem like the truth. Don't always believe what you read, the guy who made these accusations against Duke is a fraud, even his stated office in Calabar does not exist.

Before you read that read this:

News Last Updated: Friday, 30 May, 2003, 16:16 GMT 17:16 UK LePhilippe has appeared in court, charged with conning a German businessman out of $350,000. LePhilippe was arrested on Wednesday by the anti-fraud commission in connection with a so-called "419" scam. Nigerian conmen have become notorious for duping foreign businessmen into handing over large amounts of money, on the basis that they would receive millions of dollars later on.

The Judge sentenced Lephilippe to 3 years in prison; he will be due for realease in May 2006.

‘Merciful God’ written and performed by Vizion (Emeka Onyema) has made it to the final of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) based in Nashville, USA. The finalists were chosen from 15,000 entrants, so this is a great accomplishment that truly highlights Emeka’s song writing talent.

The songs are also included in the People's Voice - an online voting contest that allows the public to listen to all the finalists'songs and vote for their favorite. People's Voice is separate from, and in addition to, the winners selected by ISC's panel of judges. Emeka needs your support…. please vote for him to ensure he wins the people’s Voice and hopefully he will also win the main contest decided by the Judges shown below.

You can listen to ‘Merciful God’ and vote at http://www.sonicbids.com/voting/candidates.asp?poll_id=118

ISC has the most prestigious panel of judges of any songwriting contest in the world. Music entries are heard by some of the most high-profile and influential figures in the music industry and it is an excellent opportunity for artists and bands that are looking to gain exposure in the music industry.

PoliticsRe: Analysis Of Nigerian 2006 Census Results by Revolution: 9:20am On Jan 14, 2007
Again Nigeria1, Mr Makawa never said the hausa/Fulani are 30% of the entire population. He never mentioned 'Hausa/Fulani'. Your arguement is like saying there are 9million Yorubas in Lagos because of the census figure, when we all know there millions of non-yorubas in Lagos.

You obviously don't know Nigeria very well, because if you did you would know that there would be no WAR when (not if) the census is approved. There won't even be riots, anything goes in Nigeria. There are many worse things that have happenned in our history yet there were no resulting wars.
PoliticsRe: Analysis Of Nigerian 2006 Census Results by Revolution: 9:29pm On Jan 13, 2007
Nigeria1, there is one thing you are missing or haven't considered in your analysis. Not everyone living and counted in the six regions in Nigeria originates from the region where they reside. The Igbos travel more than any other ethnic group in Nigeria and that is why the South East came last in the census but there are millions of Igbos living in the Hausa/Fulani states and other regions of the country. So you should not see the census figures from the Hausa/Fulani states as being of Hausa/Fulani origin because it is posible that up to 50% of that figure are people who migrated there from other regions.

The Hausa/Fulani were against including Tribe or ethnicity in the census and so they have no right to claim they are the majority, their region may be the majority but their ethnic group can't be said to be the majority. The census may indeed be valid but the Obasanjo government made a big mistake by not counting ethnic groups and if they had it may have made anylysis, understanding and acceptance of the figures a lot easier. I am more convinced now than ever that the Hausa/Fulani regions/states populations is made up of a very larger percentage of Southerners, and they can't refute this because they refused the counting of ethnicity.

I personally think this census figures are more beliveable than the 1993 one which said there were only 88.5m Nigerians at a time when the population was thought to be at least 100m. To those who say Kano is not as populated as Lagos, remember Kano is about 6 times as large as Lagos in terms of land mass, so Lagos would seem more populated.

PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Picks Governor Jonathan Goodluck As Presidential Running Mate ! by Revolution: 9:15pm On Dec 17, 2006
Why is it that Nigerian politicians prefer to pick reluctant candidates for President and Vice President. Simple answer, they want a President they can control and the President wants a Vice he can control, however two reluctant, unexpected and weak candidates will not work. I dare to predict that the PDP will loose the next election and I will actually campaign against them. This is ridiculous, a complete joke.

Nigeria may be better off with Atiku than these two. Nigeria will almost certainly be better off with Buhari than these two. Unbelievable!!!!!!!

LoverBwoy, the prophet said either Duke or Utomi so give him the benefit of the doubt until Utomi is out of the race. He specifically said if the PDP failed to pick Duke then Utomi will be President, I doubt it but if it came true I will hail the man as a prophet amongst prophets.
PoliticsRe: Watch Pdp Convention Live Here by Revolution(op): 2:14am On Dec 17, 2006
In no way does Yar'Adua guarantee the most votes, in fact he could loose them the elections depending on whom the opposition come up with. Nigerians are not dummies like the PDP delelgates seem to be and will vote for whom they please, rather than what OBJ says.

Obasanjo seemed to have picked Yar'Adua to counter Atiku as they belong to the same political network, but what if one Atiku decided to withdraw or the other opposition parties decide to back a southern candidate? This is like a chess game. The other parties are wait to see what the PDP does and will react accordingly. In a week or so we will know whether Yar'Adua was a good idea.
