FIVE (5) TRAITS OF SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEURS Entrepreneurship is a popular goal, but not everyone knows what entrepreneurship really is and what it takes to be an entrepreneur. The thought of having your own business and working for yourself might appeal to you, but are you really cut out for the challenges of entrepreneurship? If you possess these five traits of successful entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship might just be right for you. 1. They Are Passionate Being an entrepreneur demands commitment and dedication and being passionate about what you do makes it easier to stay through the lows. Passion isn't really excitement about the chance to jump on a trend or fad in order to make a quick buck. You have to really believe in your product or service that you're motivated enough to keep at it even when things don't seem to be working out well. If you're ambivalent about your product or service, you will give up on it as quickly as you started working on it. Find something you love enough to want to share it with others. That love will fuel and give you purpose. 2. They Don't Give Up Successful entrepreneurs have the mental fortitude to keep fighting when they're at the bottom. It's one thing to be willing to take a risk and be willing to fail, but the ability to get back up and continue fighting. Before success comes failure and it's something everyone has to experience and overcome. The ability to bounce back form failure is what separates successful entrepreneurs from the one that failed. 3. They Are Disciplined As an entrepreneur, you have to be disciplined. Owning your own business doesn't mean that you get to sleep till noon and take endless vacation days — not if you want to run a successful business. To build an idea into a business, you have to have the discipline to spend time slogging through the least fun parts of running a business. You have to look at the big picture and realise that cutting corners may not have immediate consequences, but they'll affect you in the long run 4. They Are Confident Self confidence is a key entrepreneurial trait. You have to be confident in your business or product and your ideas. This is necessary so you can overcome naysayers who will try to discourage you at every opportunity. If you want costumers to be confident in your product or service, you first have to be confident in the risks you're taking as an entrepreneur. 5. They Are Pragmatic As much as it's important to be confident, it is also important to be realistic. It is great that you believe in your dreams and you're pursuing them with everything you have, but you must also be willing to change course and tweak plans to align with current circumstances. It is important to stay fully grounded and strike the right balance in all your actions. If you want to have a successful business, it's wise to pick up every feasible tool. If you don't already have these traits, you can develop them over time and become a better entrepreneur. Remember, it's never too late to start. If you desire to be successful at that business you have started, or one that you are seriously considering to start, i would recommend all the above traits to form part of your success creed. I wish you success.
