Family / Re: We Caught My 16-Year-Old Brother Smoking In His Room by Rhea(f): 7:29pm On Jan 09, 2022
Guest2008:
How Can I Help My Brother Out Of This Mess

Good afternoon nairalanders. As I'm typing this, my mum is not herself and she's been crying since morning because she caught my younger one smoking in his room..

He locked himself in the room for a very long time and my mum decided to go check on him. After a while, he sprayed his room and opened the door.

The room was filled with this hard drug smell, she called me and we decided to check the room even though he denied ever smoking.. We saw a light brown paper that he probably tears from, a nylon containing something like sand and a lighter behind the toilet seat. Despite all this, he still denied it claiming the smell is probably from the next compound.
My brother just clocked 16 and he's in SS2..

How can I advise and help him stop because I believe he was actually smoking even though he denied it?

This is a very big issue, considering that smoking marijuana is the gateway to trying other harmful drugs like crystal meth.

First, you need to starve him of the funds to sustain his habits. Marijuana is not cheap. Drastically reduce his funds. If he wants to steal to make ends meet, then kick him out of the house.

If he does earn a living, then he is essentially an emancipated adult and can sustain his unhealthy habits. In which case, kick him out of the house.

Otherwise, speak to him in very plain and bold terms that he is on the path that leads to guaranteed destruction.
If he will accompany you, take him on a trip to a psychiatric unit to see where he will end up in a few years if he does not give up the habit.

So, my friend just called me early this morning to let me know that his newly married wife have a tattoo around her vagina area.

I was dumbfounded, cause that can only mean one thing, but we could be wrong.

Right now this so called friend of mine is confused and restless, and they were the 'no sex before marriage' crew.

I didn't bother asking for a picture, even though I was tempted to ask.

Dear NLders, what do you think about the tattoo? Should he be worried?

Pls nairalanders, I need help ....my wife is acting strange and I discovered she is doing drugs...she is doing tramadol, this is really affect her mental health and her life in all aspect. She is becoming aggressive and had lost all the attributes that made me marry her. Please what can I do, I sent her to her family few months ago, noticed the situation is getting worst and we have a son together. I am really worried...friends keep calling me about her that she is looking very unkept and looking dirty ....what should I do??

If you live in Lagos, seek assistance at LUTH. I believe they have a good behavioural psychiatrist. You painted a picture of someone suffering from clinical depression. I would bet she is doing more than tramadol.

Travel / Re: Life In Germany: What Is It Like For Nigerians Who Migrated? by Rhea(f): 6:04am On Oct 28, 2021
OBUKOMENA:
Good evening nairalanders! I hope you had a good day?

So, let me just go straight to my reason for opening this thread, and I hope I would be able to convey my thoughts impeccably:

It seems like some of our people who travelled to Germany aren't doing so well after all (I stand to be corrected, though!)
I have a friend over there whom I am preparing to go meet. This guy has been there since 2017. He hardly calls me on normal call. He would rather call on WhatsApp. Reason being so that he could get in touch cheaply. The first and only time I asked him to send me something, he told me pointblank he didn't have.
Just this afternoon, I heard a colleague's father just came back to Nigeria from there after 21 solid years! He had abandoned his wife and children here in Nigeria. If he was doing so well over there, would he not have arranged for his family to come over and stay with him - at least?

I have been worried, even before I heard this colleague's father thing: I don't know what I am going to meet at the friend's place; I don't know what life is like over there - how to cope in a non-English speaking environment. I don't know how long it's going to take me to make it over there and reconnect with my family. This news about my colleague's dad also increased my worries.

So, I decided I would come on here to ask: Aren't these red flags as regards traveling over there, especially with the hope that when i get there, after 2-3 years, I would bring in my family.
Anyone here knows about life in Germany?

1. Spend some time to research about the country you plan to emigrate to. If you are too lazy to do this, you will not succeed as an immigrant.
2. If you emigrate without the appropriate visa, be prepared to live like a hunted criminal (in most cases).
3. Your best chance at succeeding as an immigrant is to go back to school (undergraduate or senior secondary) and prepare yourself adequately for success. It does not matter if you have 10 degrees in Nigeria. Most European countries will offer you some form of financial assistance to go back to school.
4. If you want the short cut, you can agree to transport briefcases from Frankfurt to Zurich. They go nab you for sure. Guaranteed.
5. If you are humble enough to do any menial job, but too proud to go back to school, you can get a job cleaning the airports or hospitals (and lie to your friends in Nigeria that you are an airport engineer or a doctor).

Most Nigerians emigrate without papers and expect to make millions by operating a taxi or selling Nigerian foodstuff.

Hello guys....so I am currently 20 years of age..I just passed the just concluded jamb and I am wanting to study computer science in either a polytechnic or university then after that, join the military through S.S.C ..I have few questions I would love to ask anyone who has gone through similar experience or knows a thing or two...

Note- please nobody should come here and start telling me to finish one first as I am only trying to plan ahead... thanks..

1) should I go for a university degree ( with strike and possible extra years put into consideration) or a polytechnic for H.N.D?

2) is there a limit to the rank I can achieve for going through S.S.C ( because I've heard something like that) and how long would it take to rise to that rank if there's any?

I really need as much advice as possible,my future is at stake. Please help me..

Choose another career path - writing a book, starting a blog, learning to code, going into farming, learn to cook. Provide a service or product or idea that the world needs and cannot do without. In the near future, the military will become redundant, as most wars will be fought over the cyberspace, except in Africa where soldiers will remain pawns in the hands of military contractors and arms dealers.

The story does not add up.
The 1974 commonwealth games was hosted by New Zealand and not Australia. Nigeria won 3 gold medals in that tournament,
none of which was won by any Stephen Ogboh. His true identity and his accomplishments should be verified so that he can be rightfully acknowledged for his accomplishments. But there is a need to set the records straight.

Nigeria won 3 gold medals at the 1974 commonwealth games in New Zealand, neither of which was won by a Stephen Ogbor or Ugboo. Has he changed his name since then? The man obviously needs and deserves some assistance, as well as an accurate recognition of his true accomplishments.

Been to rehab couple of times, currently taking a counseling class although I haven't attended for like a week...

I find myself doing it although deep down I don't wanna, but it is something I can't help

Please if anyone is going through this phase or has passed and overcome kindly share your experience to help conquer this war against drugs and alcohol

Thanks

Addiction is real and deadly

You are on the path to hopefully a solution to your challenges. You are humble enough to recognise your challenges. It does appear like you have been masking the effect of a traumatic event or experience in your life with the drugs and alcohol. You will need to consult a clinical psychiatrist specialised in addiction. You may require to check in as an inpatient. That should be the next step. You are fortunate enough to have a roof over your head. I then assume you can afford the medical care. It should be your next step. Pursue that vigorously. It is never too late.
