The Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has disclosed the readiness of the federal government to revive the coal mines in Enugu State to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country as well as the state.

Addressing newsmen after a meeting with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, on Friday, Dr. Ogah, who came with a delegation from the ministry, stated that they are in Enugu on a fact-finding mission with regard to “what is already on ground, what the federal government has done and what we can do to revive the coal mines in Enugu State so that they can help grow the economy and generate jobs”.

The minister disclosed that the step was in line with the vision of the President Muhammadu Buhari to pull “over one million people out of poverty”, stressing that “we believe that mining sector is one of the key areas that can be used to do that”.

Commending Gov. Ugwuanyi for his administration steadfastness and collaboration with the federal government towards the resuscitation of coal mines in the state, Dr. Ogah pointed out that “Enugu State stands in a right pedestal to be one of the key states that will be used for this purpose”.

He added that the federal government is determined to address the challenges hindering the full operation of coal mining in Enugu State so that every royalty due to it and the state is realized.

“We thank God for the partnership we are having today with the state government to curb illegal mining and other factors hindering progress. The governor has promised there will be stronger collaboration between the state and the federal government to see how illegal mining will be curbed in the state”, the minister said.

My husband has been keeping malice with me because I don't pray regularly again (we're Muslims) and he's threatening to divorce me (we only did court wedding and yet to do Nikkah).

Afolabi Isiaka, a Church gardener, has been arrested after being caught having sex with a 13-year old girl inside a Church in #Lagos.

PMEXPRESS reports that the incident happened on October 24, 2019, at 5 Banire Street, #Mushin. It was gathered that the suspect lured the victim into the Church, removed her pant and defiled her before allowing her to go. .

It was also revealed that it was the fourth time Isiaka would be having carnal knowledge of the victim but warned her not to tell anyone.

However, the victim eventually confessed to her mom after she pressured her to know why she returned late from an errand and the matter was reported to the Gender Section of Zone D Command, Mushin, leading to the gardener’s arrest. .

The suspect was arraigned in Ogba Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for defilement and was remanded in prison.

Hello nairalanders. I have this colleague who was always sleeping in the office around july. He often complained of muscle and joint pain with dizziness and pain in his eyes and both sides of his head. Sometimes, he would be complaining of slight headache and abdominal pain.

I asked that some test be run by him, including an XYZ just to be sure. He did all that and all was negative except typhoid which was inherent in the diagnostic report with negligible malaria. He was placed on a broad spectrum ciprofloxacin. He was feeling relieved after which the symptoms came back.

Prison Authorities in Ogwashi Uku Prison, Delta State are being accused of negligence which has led to the death of almost 10,000 inmates since 2013 as explained by Ada Mazi.

One Smart Ohuzu, a prisoner awaiting trial, was reported to have died on 25th September owing to the fact that the officers ignored pleas from other inmates to take Smart to the hospital.

The young man was remanded in Prison by a Delta State Magistrate Court and two months while in custody, he has been sick.

In the morning, Smart Ohuzu collapsed and Prison Authorities called on the cell leader to gather ₦5000 from cell mates so they can transport him to Ogwashi Uku General hospital.

The poor prisoners contributed money and some even contributed ₦10 while others contributed ₦50 and they were able to raise a total of ₦3,500 eventually and now left with an outstanding ₦1,500 which then got the prison officers angry and refused to take Smart Ohuzu to hospital.

Inmates who saw Smart Ohuzu on the floor struggling, rush back to the cell and one inmate was said to have given out the ₦1,500 to enable officers take Smart Ohuzu to the Hospital and was later rushed to Ogwashi Uku General hospital after they have collected the money contributed.

Upon getting to the hospital, the doctors treated him and referred them to Federal Medical Center or Okwe General Hospital and complained that they will stop accepting inmates from Ogwashi Uku Prison as they are always bringing inmates for treatment at the point of death.

The officers, instead of taking Smart Ohuzu to the hospital the doctor referred them, with chains on his leg they led him into the Green Maria (Black Maria) and took him back to the prison yard complaining of man-power.

Smart Ohuzu was then chained and left in the cold, struggled and died with tears in his eyes, three hours after he was forcefully brought back into the prison yard.

The inmates could not complain because if they do, they either change their cell or punish them.

A group of Young Nigerians which is made up of ex-Awaiting Trial Prisoners, Behind Bars Intervention, are now demanding that health centers be built in all the prison especially Ogwashi Uku Prison, Delta State and that Minister of Interior and/or the Controller General of Prisons to write/sign and put up a sign post in each prison in Nigeria stating "VISIT IS FREE" just the way they have "Bail Is Free In Police stations and Court amongst other demands.

They however recommended that the top prison officers who uses this prison to enrich themselves and put innocent prisoners to death be sacked and the Minister of Interior/Controller General partner with other stakeholders to decongest the prison, declare Health Emergency in all the Prisons now or Shut down Ogwashi Uku Prison.

If nothing is done, the group has promised to lawfully gather 4,250 families of those in Delta Prison for a Nationwide Peaceful protest and if the allegations are considered false, the mouthpiece for the group, Prince Gwamnishu Harrison asked to be taken to the court.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for “his kind disposition and sincere commitment towards security issues in the state”.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Special Squad known as Agro Rangers, which was initiated by the Corps’ Commandant General, CG Abdulahi Gana Muhammadu, for tackling issues between herders and farmers, the Enugu State Commandant, Everestus Obiyo, stated that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s support and encouragement made the occasion possible.

Commandant Obiyo added that “the Agro Rangers Squad was part of Civil Defence response to bringing under control the unfortunate clashes, killings and wanton destruction of lives and property in our beloved country”, disclosing that the officers have been trained to intervene between the farmers/villagers and herdsmen as well as checkmate the activities and excesses of all the parties concerned to ensure peaceful co-existence for rapid growth and development.

The Commandant maintained that the scheme was designed to also give physical protection to Agro Allied Investments, which include farmlands, livestock, silos, ranches and everything that is related to the nation’s agricultural economy as well as protect the citizenry from kidnapping, robbery and other violent crimes.

The scheme, according to Commandant Obiyo, was equally initiated “to secure ranches, animals and grazing areas so as to encourage investments in agriculture and boost food security and security of lives and property of the people”.

He pointed out that “this will go a long way to help protect our local and foreign investments in agriculture, thereby giving us more for export earnings and boost local industries for growth as well as offer employment opportunities to our teeming youthful population”.

“Your Excellency, Sir, it is our utmost desire to provide effective and robust security coverage within Enugu State and its environs”, NSCDC boss assured.

Inaugurating the Squad, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who noted that the scheme “provides for the arrest and prosecution of arms bearing herdsmen or farmers and also the protection of the citizenry from kidnapping, robbery and other violent crimes”, described it as “a much welcome complement to the efforts and measures his administration has been taking to combat security challenges in state, especially with regards “to protecting our farmlands in order to enhance agricultural output and ensure the safety of farmers and rural dwellers”.

Emphasizing on the above, Gov. Ugwuanyi said that his administration “recently recruited 1,700 able-bodied and experienced youths to serve as Forest Guards with the primary responsibility of policing all our forests and exposing criminal elements using them as their hideouts”.

While maintaining that Enugu remains one of the most peaceful and secure states in the country notwithstanding some security challenges, the governor disclosed that the efforts of the state government have been considerably successful as the state has continued to record a drastic reduction in the number of clashes between farmers and herdsmen as well as other criminal activities.

He therefore applauded “the Federal Government through the NSCDC and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for this unprecedented initiative”, saying: “As a government, we want to pledge our full support, cooperation and assistance to ensure the overall success of the Agro Allied Forces initiative in Enugu State”.

Abdallah Morsi, the youngest son of late former President of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi, died of heart attack on Wednesday night in Cairo, the country's capital.

The 25-year-old suffered a fatal cardiac arrest while driving as confirmed by his lawyer, Abdel Moneim Abdel Maqsoud.

“A friend who was with him was able to stop the car and take him to hospital”, Abdel told AFP, adding that Abdallah Morsi’s funeral was set to take place on Thursday.

Though Egypt's health ministry is yet to comment on his death, a family source however told Anadolu Agency that Abdallah died at Oasis hospital in Giza in the southwest of the capital city where he was rushed to.

The father of the deceased was Egypt's first democratically elected president, his administration was known to be loyal to the now banned Muslim Brotherhood. He was deposed by the military in 2013 and died in court on June 17, 2019.

A 12-year-old schoolgirl who was raped by her teacher in Namtari, Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has been confirmed pregnant.

The Adamawa State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Nuruddeen, said the teacher, Nathan Yusuf, has been arrested for raping the minor.

“On 2nd September 2019, around 2:30 p.m., we arrested a suspect of rape in person of Nathan Yusuf (37) who is a teacher at Gurel primary school in Namtari Yola south, suspected to have raped his pupil who is below 14 years of age. He confessed to giving her codeine syrup before raping her.

Mr Nurudden said the suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.

“We are advising parents to be vigilant on their children and report such crimes to the relevant authorities for judicial action,” he said.

Bashir Tahir, a member of a non-governmental organisation, Hope Centre, which cares for rape victims in the state, said the group was providing support for the girl.

“She has received all the needed support and the medical tests required. So far she is free from all sexually transmitted diseases. But she will start receiving antenatal care next week at the Hope Centre,” he said.

Mr Tahir said over 160 rape cases had been brought to the organisation, adding that 10 of them have been taken to court.

An uncle of the victim, Sulaiman Namtari, said the action of the teacher came to the community as a rude shock because the man was hitherto highly respected in the community.

“Every member of the community reserves tremendous respect for the teacher as he has been in the community for years. There is no house he doesn’t enter and every member of the community knows him very well.

” What he did was perfidy of the highest order and for that we want authorities not to spare him,” Mr Namtari said.

While fielding questions from journalists, Mr Yusuf expressed remorse over his action, saying he was prodded by the devil.

He said he would take care of the baby after delivery, adding that he will take full responsibility for his action.

Kogi West Senator, Dino jonah Melaye narrowly escaped death after unknown gunmen stormed the venue of the Governorship Primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.

Melaye was injured during the chaos. POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that Early Wednesday morning as the exercise was being carried, hoodlums armed to the teeth stormed the stadium and started shooting sporadically. Delegates and Party chieftains scampered to safety, with many crawling on their bellies to avoid being hit by Stray bullets.

A statement released by Melaye's media team claims that the senator was the main target of the target. The statement read;

"The disruption and sporadic shootings in the early hours of today at the venue of PDP primary which led to an abrupt end of the exercise was aimed at Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye."

"The bid by Sen Dino Melaye to join the governorship race has since unsettled the camp of Governor Yahaya Bello. It is in the public domain already that Sen Dino Melaye is the only threat to the reelection of governor Bello with all capacities to defeat him."

In what can be described as a miscommunication, Kosisochukwu Anioma tells the police that she was not kidnapped and that she left home on Thursday, August 22nd to visit her boyfriend in Enugu.

She said her father was in Abuja and her mother was a bit Ill when she left as both of them were not aware of the movements. She was declared missing by her father Frank Anioma who was a former aide to the Ex, Governor of Enugu
